I've been there twice. Same exact experience both times. Food is really good. Live music is a big reason why I go as well and is awesome. BOTH times, sat at the upstairs bar. BOTH times , the bartenders are very poor. I literally have to wave them down to get anything!! They are just not good. I won't return because obviously management just doesn't get it. Came here for a Wednesday evening paint night which took place in the basement (reception hall) of the restaurant. Full bar and menu service available while we painted. I had a bowl of Maryland crab soup ($9.00) and a Caesar side salad ($5.00). The soup was a generous portion with lots of veggies and generous portions of crab meat. A little spicy, but good. I'm not overly impressed; in fact I really wanted to like this place, but was left wanting. It's a Friday night and I was looking for dinner reservations on Open Table because usually in the Belair area you will wait for an hour on a Friday night because no one eats at home here. We absolutely did not need reservations as the place was only at 25% capacity and we could have just walked in and sat anywhere. I should have realized something was up, as this place has been open for months and the reviews are all over the place. When we walked in it was kind of confusing, there is no hostess station at the entrance, instead it is run at the corner of the Bar after the large entrance and climbing up this slanted hallway. Restaurant vs Bar.... I'm sorry, but the Fallston Barrel House rings solid bar. Yes you can get reservations from Open Table, that's how we ate here tonight. The ramp entrance opens into the bar, yes they have a dining room off to the side, but so do a lot of bars (Looney's, MaGerk's, Hazelwood Inn, Green Turtle, Friday's...etc). It's Friday night and today they have live entertainment on the deck. The food says upscale bar food, but as I looked at other patron's dining, it was a hit or miss as I noticed people leaving behind half eaten meals; half a crab cake, half a steak, soggy looking broccoli and thick limp asparagus. I had the Barrel Burger, a perfectly round and flat patty, cooked to medium, although I ordered medium-rare. It was covered in caramelized onions (yum) cheddar cheese and bacon, served with a generous portion of over salted fries. The burger itself was under seasoned. But the pickle was awesome!!! My wife had the Full Monte, their take on the Monte Cristo; an unusual panini pressed French Toast sandwich with powdered sugar. The meats were yum. Again served with a ton of over salted fries. Served with a commercial, run of the mill jam, instead of something house made which could have made that sandwich spectacular. This sandwich has potential!!! Evan, our Waiter was rather inattentive and had the personality of a wet noodle, and did not know the menu. There is no salt, pepper, or ketchup on the tables, and he served us our sandwiches with fries without asking if we wanted or needed anything, in addition did not give us any napkins or silverware. I literally had to ask for silverware, napkins, and for my water twice and he totally forgot the lemon. He knew nothing about the draft beers on tap; I had to ask for a second beer twice. It was not just us, he served the lady next to us a dinner salad and they had to ask for silverware and napkins as well. The ambience is nice, lots of TV's in the bar area, an awesome deck; this place has potential, but only if the owners pump up the food, as the two items we had were less than spectacular. My rating is probably a bit generous, but half-stars are not possible: in total this should be 2.5 stars. We may eat here again, as I like burgers and beer on occasion, but when we eat out it is not only for the food, but also the service that makes the occasion memorable, and right now I just want to forget Evan altogether. read more

Going to give a two, went there yesterday to enjoy the weather and a band. The reason I am giving a two is that I ordered steamed shrimp heavy on the seasoning (Old Bay or Crab Seasoning) hardly got any. Asked for a side of Old Bay and got barely enough to cover the bottom. Asked for more, was given an excuse they had ran out. well some how the steamed crabs that were coming out had plenty of seasoning on them. the reservation we made on open table did not get us in the door at Fallston Barrel House tonight. i indicated when I made the reservation that we wanted to be downstairs with the band. The reservation was confirmed, however we were never informed that it was a ticketed event. we drove an hour to get there from Howard County and were turned back at the door. apparently one part of the automated website makes reservations and another part of the automated website sells tickets. Not very helpful when these two parts are not co-ordinated. I am sure that the venue made it's bottom line tonight and has little or no concern for fools like us that were not able to figure it out. we were just briskly told the venue was sold out and that we should leave. read more

We went there on a snowy night figuring there would be much of a crowd (we have seen some of the lines) Glad we did because they weren't busy and our waitress was able to answer our 100 questions. Sorry I forgot her name she was very patient and helpful. My wife had the pear and arugula salad it was definitely a large portion her only complaint was to much bacon. She felt it took the health right out of it. My daughter is a vegetarian and when we asked about any vegatarian options (none on the menu other than salads) The manager/owner? came flying over to our table to offer my daughter a few options and to let her know they will leave the meat out of any dish she chooses. Wow what a nice change most places just say "we have salads" (again I did not get her name) I had the gator kabobs, salad & shrimp & grits the gator was a tad dry but everything was tasty and served in a timely manner. We were headed to Texas Roadhouse, when my bf said, "Let's try the new place!" I veered across the street avoiding a few cars .... and said, "It better good if I'm giving up my ribeye!" So glad we did!! Great atmosphere. Loved the bar area. Hostess allowed us to pick out our table. Great location with a flat screen. Our waitress, Michelle was wonderful. She was so patient waiting for me because I was asking so many questions about the new restaurant. She was so informative. We ordered the Rockfish bites and pulled pork potato skins. While waiting we were given two small pieces of bread with an incredible cream cheese spread. It was so good. Bread was warm and delicious. We ordered the barrel Cheesesteak to split... with fries. Appetizers were good. I LOVED the potato skins. My bf LOVED the rockfish bites. Our Cheesesteak was excellent. We ate every bite. With two drinks our bill was $38. I'm definitely returning. Looking forward to trying out more of the menu. If this place eventually gets outside seating and steamed crabs .... it'll be a huge hit. read more

We had dinner there one night and came out to front end damage on our car. Someone hit us in the parking lot and didn't even have the decency to leave a note. We reached out to the restaurant owner who assured us she would get us the footage. She kept saying she was looking into it, would get back to us that day, etc. It took a week and an aggressive email to finally get a "we didn't see an accident or incident during that time". I then asked for the actual footage (this damage 100% happened in their sketchy parking lot - right in front of one of their cameras). It's been 5 days since and I have yet to receive anything and don't expect to. We were quoted over $600 to fix this damage that will now be out of pocket because they won't give us any information. Do the cameras even work? Is the owner protecting an employee who did this? It's definitely sketchy and we will not be giving them any more of our money. Be warned for future incidents! read more

I almost want to keep this gem of a place a secret it's that good -but I can't. We went on a Wednesday night to listen to great music and have dinner. There is so much happening in this restaurant all the time you could go several nights a week. I misunderstood the online reservation system but the amazing manager (everyone knows her by name!) fixed and we had a terrific evening. The vibe is great- lot's of friendly people there to relax and have fun and the people working there are fun, but also work hard to provide excellent service. A gem hidden in Fallston, why we have not been here sooner is beyond me. We came in around 530pm and sat in the bar area. Our server, Emma, quickly came over offered drinks and brought waters while we were looking at the menu. We ordered and appetizers came out quickly. Ahi tuna and brisket stuffed jalepino poppers were a hit with us. Finally dinner was served HOLY COW!! It was awesome! Stuffed shrimp with Cole slaw and macaroni and cheese. My husband said these shrimp are packed with a ton of crab meat. We like to think we are Cole slaw snobs and this comes slaw hit it out of the park. Macaroni and cheese was amazing and had a few different cheeses in it. I orded the Fallston chicken and BBQ brussel sprouts and it did not disappoint. The chicken breast was crispy and the sauce has a great taste. The spinach on tip was fresh and red peppers rounded the dish off perfectly. Service was great. The bartender was funny and engaged the whole bar area. We will definitely put this place on our regular places to enjoy. read more

KICKED OUT: We came to have dinner drinks and watch a good band. Sat in a corner and kept to ourselves until the male owner came over to us and pulled my man away from the table saying " he's trained to know when people are drunk, we have been dancing and he hoped we where ubering home" . We literally where sitting in our seats and watched the band all night. We where appalled and shocked that we would be singled out. Totally ruined our night. We come here often for birthday celebrations, family dinners, and with friends. If this guy is trained to see drunk people he should have already sent the women home falling on the dance floor and passed out at her table. Seriously, why would they say such things to two couples sitting in the corner, keeping to themselves all night. Not to mention one of us is the designated driver drinking two drinks over 4hours. We ordered take out for Father's Day. Motz Sticks, Wings, Barrel House Shrimp, Barrel Burger and Buttermilk Chicken. Also got an orange crush to go. We live in Jacksonville so it was a 20 minute drive home. Everything was still warm when we got home and needed minimal reheating. ( We are used to reheating some as anywhere good to eat is at least 20 minutes away). The order was perfect and all the food was fresh!. We ordered the burger medium rare and it was exactly right. Everything was delicious and the service when we went to pick up was fast and courteous. We have had trouble with pick up orders in the area (Overpriced Koopers burgers that must have been precooked hours before) Their prices are reasonable and portions were hearty. We went here for dinner at 6pm on a Friday and were seated right away in the dining room. The place looked nice and the service was pretty good. We ordered the stuffed jalapenos wrapped in bacon, they were stuffed with cheese and chorizo. They were delicious. For our entrees my son ordered a pressed chicken sandwich that came with fries. The chicken sandwich was good but average. I ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich. The sandwich was big, crispy and with a berry sauce for dipping which was so good we ordered another one to go. I only have two complaints about the restaurant. One, the was that the music was too loud in my opinion for the dining room. Perfect for the bar but in the dining room it should have been a liitle quieter. And two, the drinks were too expensive. Lemonade and unsweetened ice tea should not be $3.00. This will probably be one of the more negative reviews for this venue. Went there on 2/25 to hear The Reagan Years band. THEY WERE AWESOME!! Now for the bad news. Admission and entrance was not marked and difficult to find for many first timers to find. Once inside the entrance way, everyone waited at least 10-15 minutes to get inside the doors. It was VERY unorganized. (Poor management). When we got to our table, there was a hectic game of "musical chairs" as many guests were looking for chairs that would support them. They were very flimsy, uncomfortable, and scary. Not fun to sit on for 3-4 hours. After we were sitting for 45 minutes, we decided to go to the 3-deep bar to get our own drinks as NO ONE ever came to our table. (Poor management.)Other scattered tables were receiving service but not ours. The staff DID remove our empty bottles and glasses from our table in 5-15 seconds but NEVER offered to get us refills. One of our guests finally physically grabbed a server and ordered some food. 45 minutes later, it arrived cold.(Poor management.) Much of the confusion was caused by the background music (pre-band) being played at a 14 volume on a scale of 1-10. And it too NEVER stopped. When the band started at 8 sharp, we couldn't see a thing because the table in front of us placed a handi-capped gentleman directly in front of us in an elevated chair blocking most of our views. You can't make this stuff up!!! (Poor management.) I pity the employees. We left at the first break and went to a more relaxing arena. We won't be missed but we won't return. What a shame. Once you avoid the potholes there is lots of parking. Broken, rusted furniture with plastic flowers you see at a yard sale is the outside decor. Walking to the front door you will fine the staff smoking while you pass the smoking station flowing a nice cloud. Walk in the front door and you have to figure out where to present to the hostess because you walk into the bar. The waitress was sweet and showed us the menu and explained the specials. We gave her our drink requests and off she went. We took the rolled up napkin to get our silverware, all six were dirty. None of the silverware matched. Some were butter knives, some were steak knives. Vintage or just another yard sale purchase? We read our grease stained menu and looked at each other like - wanna run? Nope - we are foodies, suck it up. The WORST atmosphere EVER in our 25 years of traveling the world for food. Packages bought to put up or use sitting on the floor, tables so close together to move, "repurposed" decorations. Other staff...two other waitresses and two owners were setting up for a party of twelve. We know this because it took the first twenty minutes of our dinner for them to stop sliding metal tables and slamming chairs five feet from us. The waitress was eating while loudly discussing the table placement Don't worry the blaring Metallica drowned out the sound. Food - Presentation amazing thank you Rockfish bites - crispy - have more sauce for so much fish please Meatballs- wet uncooked and no consistent taste. Spicy-marinara-mild cheese - just horrible. Blue burger - medium - wet undercooked soggy. Flavored with BBQ & blue cheese Nothing went home but us. Never be back in life and will keep those I care about from wasting money. Waffle House is cleaner, friendlier and you don't get hit with a $70 bill for two appetizers and one meal that you can't eat. Don't expect the owner is going to acknowledge your presence. We started coming here for trivia on Monday nights (starts at 8pm, highly recommend). The staff is amazing, very friendly and helpful! The food is great, wings are $0.75 on Mondays so we usually get a couple of baskets - well cooked and good flavor selection. Pulled pork fries are probably our favorite thing on the menu - we swap the sweet potato fries for regular ones. Great beer selection - you can sample a few before committing to a whole glass. The owners did a great job with remodeling and decorating - the atmosphere is clean, bright, and inviting. Even with a full bar and dining room it's not too noisy. The food is awesome. My steak was cooked perfect. I've had pit beef cheese sub yummy. I ve had much more but the desserts are the bomb. We been there quite a lot. The service has been great. We love the outside deck. You can bring your dogs, sit & eat or have a drink. They know the beer there. They can match the beer with you meal. They have specials on certain nights. Also do parties in the other part of restaurant. Paint night once a month, we been there it's really fun. We feel they have brought a family oriented restaurant to that corner. Go check it out. This restaurant offers a pleasant dining experience with excellent food and friendly staff. The outside could use a bit of work, but the inside is clean and modestly decorated. The upstairs restaurant is split with the dining room on one side, the bar on the other, and there is a patio which I am told is open in warmer weather. We were seated and served by friendly and attentive staff. The food was definitely the highlight of the evening. The menu offers a variety of dishes made of creative and unique pairings. We were told the menu will change a bit seasonally, but I hope the complimentary pretzel rods with a sweet spread remain available. For our meal, we enjoyed the Barrel House Meatballs (three to an order), Shrimp & Grits, Cajun Alfredo Blackened Chicken, a side of BBQ Brussel Sprouts and a Crab Cake Sandwich (not listed on the online menu, but was more than your typical Crab Cake and Crackers...Large Lump Crab Cake, Melted Gouda, & Sweet Chili Aioli. All dishes had great flavor, were served hot, and nicely presented. The prices are a bit high and the portions are moderate in size, but otherwise a nice place for a good meal. read more

My wife and I had our anniversary dinner here. Was extremely disappointed. I had the ribeye steak with mashed potatoes and broccoli. My wife had a burger. The waitress said the steak was huge. Asked for medium rare. The steak was a 1/4 inch thick and was cooked well done. Very disappointing. For $24.00 I expected a lot more. The mashed potatoes had sour cream added, way too much. Tasted like sour potatoes. My broccoli was dry and tasteless. My wife burger was greasy, she only ate half. The fries were horrible. Sorry but the ratings for this place are way too high. Wouldn't put them more than a two. Should be a one for the price. FYI, the beer prices are way above the norm, expect to pay $6 for a pint. Will not be going back. read more

Hello, had not been in a long time and wee looking forward to it. we sat at the bar on a thursday around 5. There were no food or drink happy hour specials, but that was ok. cream of crab was cold, but bartender got it hot and it was very good. my chicken sandwich was good, but the slaw tasted like cheap store bought slaw. I had a "side" salad made with cheap iceberg. The most upsetting part was being charged 10$ for my what was supposed to be $5. salad. we already paid not noticing right away and when I brought it to the bartenders attention - he did not seem to care. he said i could take it out of his tip.- which we already wrote a 20% tip on the check in pen. Why not offer a dessert or get $5 out of the register or a beer on the house. very dissappointed in the level of professionlism and quality. Will not be back read more
