This place is outstanding! The Silver Spring Mining Company in Bel Air has the ultimate best sour beef and dumplings. The dumplings were light, airy and melts in your mouth. The ginger snap gravy is without a doubt the best on the planet. The meat was perfection. I cannot say enough about this meal. Almost as good as my mother's. They have a special lady in the back that makes the potato dumplings. She's been there for 19 years and has perfected the potato dumpling. This dish is absolutely outstanding. I took crab cakes home and they were just fantastic. You cannot go wrong with their crab cake. Their raspberry walnut salad is undeniably fantastic. Raspberries, candied walnuts, Mandarin orange slices over a bed of lettuce topped with a homemade rather restaurant made raspberry vinaigrette which I could just drink out of the bottle. The crab pretzel was undeniably excellent. They have a nice big indoor fireplace which permeates heat throughout very nice. The service was great. Our waitress had been there for 19 years. Very well versed in the menu very sweet and likeable. This is the place to go to for all kinds of meals. If you haven't been there, you're doing yourself a disservice. From soup to nuts, the meal was awful. The "Maryland" crabcake was loaded with filler and drowning in mayonnaise. As someone who knows what a real Maryland crabcake should taste like, this was embarrassing. My hamburger arrived RAW, and my daughter's wings were greasy, tasteless, and barely edible. The bill? $144. What made things even worse was the complete lack of customer service afterward. I submitted SIX messages through their website contact form over several weeks and never received a single response. I also reached out directly to management and was ignored. When I finally called them myself after nearly a month of trying to communicate, the manager simply said, "We didn't see anything wrong with the evening," and refused to refund even part of the meal. So not only was the food terrible, but management clearly could not care less about customer satisfaction or even basic courtesy. There are far too many good restaurants in Maryland to waste your money here. I will never return. read more

We met our son and grand-children at Silver Spring to celebrate our son's 50th birthday. We had a made a reservation and they gave us a choice of tables when we arrived, which I really appreciated. We chose a round table close to the fireplace. It was a great choice - very quiet. Our son ordered the Ahi Tuna Appetizer Special, which was a generous portion of sesame-crusted tuna with two sauces. The sauces were Cusabi and Sriracha - both very spicy. For his main course, he had the Sizzlin' Steak Fajitas, which came to the table smoking - they were served with shredded lettuce, salsa, sour cream, Cheddar Jack cheese, and warm tortillas. His only complaint was that the tortillas were too small. Our grandson started with the fresh garden salad of mixed greens with cucumber, tomato and croutons with blue cheese dressing. He went all out and tried the Crisfield Burger Blackened that was topped with shrimp, crabmeat, grilled ham, Cheddar Jack cheese, and tiger sauce. It was enormous, and he devoured it all. My husband and my grand-daughter had the all-natural Black Angus Silver Spring Burger, one with gorgonzola cheese and one with American cheese. The burgers came with French fries and a pickle. They were very pleased with their burgers. I had the 1/2 portion of Sour Beef and Dumplings, but I requested a second dumpling in place of the Cole slaw. I have ordered the 1/2 portion at the other Silver Spring Mining Company location and got considerably more beef than I received this time. The flavor was very good. I was disappointed that the restaurant did nothing to help us celebrate our son's 50th birthday even though we told them when we made the reservation, and we told our server as well. Great experience at 6 PM on a Thursday. Greeted by a friendly hostess immediately and led to a table that made sense for us with young children, without having to ask! Quickly greeted by a professional server, Brian. Throughout the entire visit, he was appropriately attentive, never annoyed (did I mention i had my kids with me?) We initially ordered 2 kids meals and a soup. I was double impressed with the expo delivered my soup because it was ready first. Having hot food hot is an phenomenal experience and should be recognized. Our entree salad and wings came out as expected. Brian was attentive and anticipated our needs before we did! I always get the crab pretzel, so I already knew what I wanted; and my mother got a type of burger (I don't remember). Crab Pretzel was soft, not over cooked, and very on the spot well done with the crab meat and cheese and the pretzel because I have had some before with not enough crab meat, too much cheese, and burnt pretzel. My mother said her burger was done just right as well with very juicy flavor, just rightly cooked for how well done she wanted it, and she wouldn't change a thing for how she asked for her burger done. My family of 4 went to Silver Spring Mining Co on a Sat afternoon for an early dinner. The dining area was mostly empty. the server took our drink order and it took one drink ordered from the bar 20 min to get. We had to ask for our appetizers of a crab pretzel which came out burnt and soup twice in 15-20 min and got it in 30 min! Our dinners came out in about 35-40 min and were terrible!! The 2 Reuben sandwiches were burnt dried up bread, dried up meat, hardly no sauce or sauerkraut. We could not eat them! My husband ordered sour beef and dumpling along with a side of Cole slaw and got no Cole slaw and 2 dumplings. The young lady that served it had a real attitude when questioned about the error in the order. The chicken fajitas came out without chicken which took another 15 min to come out. My daughter in law had to sit and watch us eat staring at a plate of shredded cheese, lettuce and two little cups of condiments! The chicken was cold and tough along with cool greasy fried onions! She could not eat it! We all complained and the server said they were busy! We complained to the manager who said he would adjust our bill. He credited me less than the cost of one sandwich! We stopped in after the Great Grapes Wine Festival, and we were glad we did. Awesome food, and really awesome drink prices. Buy a drink get the next one for a penny. Our table by the bar had its own tv and sound system. We split the huge crab stuffed pretzel, the chicken and shrimp scampi and the shrimp melt. All were really good! I one what I came for and as the drink quickly appeared the server did not expect me to be ready. I ordered the small sour beef. There was so much gravy on the plate it was like a bowl of soup. This filled my stomach because was the meat was so small not like the pictures here which are probably not the small. I am pissed! Take my mom, in her wheelchair to dinner. We've been here a million times. She loves the food here. Many happy memories here- until today. We get through the first door. The second double door is difficult. Two hostesses stand at the counter ignoring us as I struggle to hold open the door with my foot and push her wheelchair through. Take her to the ladies room, which is falling apart. The doors and dividers between stalls are so loose and wiggly. Go back to the hostess stand to get a table and they take us to a booth. Really? She's in a wheelchair! Place was not busy so I had to explain why I needed a regular table with chairs that could be removed to accommodate her wheelchair. Duh! Food and service were ok. When we were leaving two hostesses stood at the front and didn't budge to help with the doors. I actually had to ask one of them to hold it open for us. Doesn't matter how your food and service are if your hostesses don't give a crap! Brought my dad ( in his wheelchair ) here with mom for years. Now it's her turn to go places this way. What a weird experience. First, we were first time diners at the Silver Spring Mining Company and it was early on a Wednesday afternoon, so the place was empty. We walk in and the hostess stares at us with glazed over eyes. After two attempts to get her to snap out of her fog, she asked, "what do you want?" After informing her we were there for lunch, she takes us to a table that hadn't been wiped down from the last customers. The waitress had us moved and she was nice and her service was good. The food was marginal, especially for the price. For two drafts and two sandwiches, the cost was $76. $18.17 for a cheese steak sandwich, outrageous. As we walked out, the hostess was staring at a blank wall. We gave it a try, but there are too many other good restaurants in the area that I don't think we will be back. read more

Let me first start with a little history. I have lived in Harford County for most of my life, so I am very familiar with this restaurant. My family and I have eaten here on numerous occasions. We usually haven't had any problems. Today was a different story. When my mom walked in, the host (a man in his 50-60's) said hello and offered my mom a sample of wine. She declined but I said I'd like a sample. The guy simply gave me a blank stare before asking how old I was. I said that I was 21. He responded by saying I "couldn't be more than 18." My mother joined in, saying I was turning 22 in August. He didn't appear convinced. Instead of commenting on his rude demeanor, I said that he was welcome to check my ID. He looked at my ID and then complained about how he had to do the math to figure out my age.. Worse part? This guy never even brought me my sample. Pure incompetence. If he didn't believe that I was 21, HE should have asked for ID. And when someone is of age, you should probably serve them.. Our waitress was inattentive and spent the whole meal chatting with friends behind the bar. When she provided us the check, she hovered and waited until my mom placed her credit card in the check. No courtesy at all (some people like looking over their bill before they blindly give their credit card away...) My shrimp melt was shrimp and cheese baked onto several small bread slices. It was very difficult to eat and wasn't memorable There's no reason to return to this restaurant with rude and incompetent staff. read more

We love coming here on Friday nights and typically sit in a booth within the bar area. You can't beat buy one get one for a penny domestic drafts! The loaded potato skins they make are so crispy and delicious! They almost seem twice-baked and the potato-to-cheese ratio is on point. Their fajitas always hit the spot and the manager told us how they have a special marinade for them. Our service is consistently excellent which is why we keep coming back! Worst service ever tonight. Went for the kids because they had Paw Patrol characters there tonight. Our waiter took forever to come to our table, forever with everything! We put in an order for our food which took about 45 minutes. We asked to speak with a manager, Kelly came to our table and said "did you need me"? SERIOUSLY you're the manager LoL!!! How rude.
