The ambience was nice and the service was decent. The menu, particularly the entrees, seemed a little pricey for the area but the food we had was all good. Havre De Grace is a small waterfront town, so I have to say that considering the context and location, our dinner was really quite good and exceeded my expectations. Every town, burg, or community - however large or small - should be the proud possessor of at least one... Bistro, that is. A cozy little restaurant that serves up delightfully delicious food in a decidedly casual setting. And in Havre de Grace, The Vineyard Wine Bar fills this niche with a subtle sense of style. As the name suggests, wine has played a significant role in Vineyard's obvious success. So much so, in fact, that not only does the restaurant sport a superb compendium of vintages by the glass and bottle, its lunch and dinner menus are also divided into categories - Light Bodied, Medium Bodied, Full Bodied - that correspond to specific types of wines. Yes, wine is definitely the name of the game... But don't let that fool you. The kitchen also has a great deal to say... and all of it good. The food here is excellent in every respect, as is the service. If I lived in HdG, I have absolutely no doubt that I would be tempted to dine here every day of the week. The Vineyard is everything a great bistro should be - and then some. But I begin to digress... As you have undoubtedly surmised from the above remarks, our dinner here was an extraordinarily satisfying experience. My dining partner and I began by sharing the Bruschetta Trio. Bruschetta is an Italian appetizer that begins with grilled bread topped with garlic and olive oil and then adds a variety of toppings. In this case, the finishing touches consisted of a luscious garlic spread, sundried tomato and basil pestos, melted mozzarella, and house marinated tomatoes with a balsamic glaze. While most incarnations of bruschetta may be consumed manually, Vineyard's substantially succulent variations on the theme (as you will note from the photograph above) demanded the ministrations of both knife & fork and were well worth the effort... Incredibly and unforgettably delicious. As we moved on to what would be considered the entrée or main course, options were numerous and varied... from Cornish Game Hen to Crispy Skin Duck... Venison to Dakota Steak... Lamb Vindaloo to Pesto Bucatini... ... On this particular evening, however, matters piscatorial appeared to take precedence. My dining partner was absolutely ecstatic with her Tuna Bites. Which is precisely what they were... diminutive squares of blackened tuna luxuriating in a Creole remoulade (a creamy, mayonnaise-based sauce originating in France). A definite "wow" factor at work here. On the other hand, my Mango Glazed Salmon was equally up to the mark... First of all, it was wild caught, which I much prefer (with rare exception) to the farmed variety. Secondly, as with most species of fish, salmon tends to be prone to both over and under cooking. Here, however, it was perfectly prepared - cooked through but still moist and succulent at the core - superbly complemented by a slightly smokey red pepper coulis (a smooth sauce made from puréed and strained fruits or vegetables), and companioned by lemon & herb risotto and roasted asparagus spears. On to the wine... With regard to both taste and texture, tuna and salmon are certainly among finny fare's heartiest representatives. Thus, despite the oft-quoted dictum, "Red wine with meat, white wine with fish," and the gentle urgings of our server in that direction, I have always found that salmon and pinot noir are - somewhat akin to lamb and red Bordeaux - a match made in heaven. And, in this instance, the 2022 Lundeen Mon Père Pinot Noir from Oregon's Willamette Valley proved to be a perfect match for my companion's blackened tuna bites as well. Dessert was a special treat. Naturally, many of the usual familiar sweet endings were present and accounted for. And, given the superior quality of the cuisine thus far, I had no doubt whatsoever that they would have acquitted themselves with suitable aplomb. For some reason, however, my dining companion and I were both drawn to the Crème Brûlée Cheesecake (pictured), which we decided to share... and, which, as it turned out, proved to be one of the high points of our evening. This was an intriguing amalgam indeed: The sweetness of taste being more influenced by the former; the firmness of texture by the latter. It is - if you will pardon the seemingly psychological digression - what we might consider a type of "gastronomic Gestalt," in which the whole is greater than the mere sum of its parts. In other words, the components of Crème Brûlée and Cheesecake have been combined... and from this fascinating combination there has emerged a new dessert that is even more desirable than the components have been individually. Upscale prices in a cute restaurant with good service. Was the Lamb Vindaloo ($44) authentic? No. But it was tasty on a cool night. The Duck Wantons ($22) were rich and yummy. The wine was a very light pour for $11, but expected from a place that calls itself the Vineyard. Paper menus and other details that you expect for these prices would cause me to pause about going back. We came in for the wine education class but decided to grab some dinner and wine first. I ordered the salmon entrée, and while the fish itself was tasty, the glaze was a bit on the sweet side for my taste. The starch it came with wasn't cooked properly, which was disappointing for such an expensive meal. I also left the table still feeling hungry--I had to grab a snack later, and I joked that my husband would need a second dinner after our dinner! My friend ordered the seafood risotto special, which was hearty and filling, so I guess it really depends on what you're in the mood for. On a positive note, we shared a bottle of wine, and it was fantastic. The wine list is long and filled with great options--so many wines I had never tried before! I also loved the wine class. It was truly educational and worth the $25. We tasted a ton of wines, and I walked away having learned a lot. As for the restaurant space, it's a bit on the small side--just a few tables and a bar with stools. We were seated near the door, so it was cold whenever it opened, which wasn't ideal. The ambiance could definitely be improved to match the overall charm of the place. All in all, this place is definitely worth checking out, especially for the wine class experience. We really got to know this place while our house was being built in Havre de Grace. Great wine selection and a staff that has the knowledge to get you what you will like. The ambiance is special since it is in an old building in downtown. As many times as we have been there I still find myself admiring the ceiling and trim work. The first thing I want to call out is the most excellent pricing! They offer a pretty good selection of wine and the bottle prices were probably the best and fairest, we ever encountered. The place was small and we sat in the front by the door. There was asid too that looked awesome, see pictures. You can also reserve seats at the bar, I thought that was cool. The food was also very well done. We had the burrada cheese with fruit, jam and pesto crostini. This was the only dish we had a minor issue with, the description said jam and there was no jam, more of a strawberry purée. Still very tasty and the crostini was excellent with the pesto. I had mahi mahi with a mango curry sauce and it was excellent. My wife had carbonara with crab and that was possibly better than my fish dish. The service was excellent, our synopsis was our server seemed to always be there when we needed something as if by magic because otherwise we didn't see much of her. A great experience overall, great prices, great food and great service. If we lived here we would probably be regulars. read more

We visited on a Friday evening. Prior to arriving, my sister called twice--once on Wednesday and again around 3 p.m. on Friday--and was told that we did not need a reservation and could simply walk in and sit at the bar. However, when we arrived, we were told the opposite: that a reservation was required and that the bar was always reserved. The "owner" came out to speak with us, but instead of handling the situation calmly, his tone was aggressive and unnecessarily loud. He kept repeating that his staff knows everyone needs a reservation--yet we had been told TWICE that we didn't. The inconsistency was frustrating, and the way it was addressed made the experience uncomfortable and embarrassing, as other guests began to stare. Additionally, although the restaurant advertises outdoor dining, we were told it was only available in "perfect weather." Ironically, it was a beautiful day--ideal for sitting outside and enjoying a glass of wine. The entire interaction left a very negative impression, and I also sensed discriminatory undertones in the way we were treated. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I will not be returning and cannot recommend this establishment. read more

I started with the tuna bites, which were fine. I decided to break my own rule of ordering steak anywhere but a well-known steakhouse and was reminded of why I had the rule. Ordered the NY Strip medium rare and it came out mostly grey- no sear or crust on the outside, pretty flavorless. Served with twice-baked potato mash which was decent, and some very thin limp asparagus. Overall uninspired meal. Served at the bar disappeared for 10 minutes at one point and two other servers stared at me from across the bar while I was trying to get another drink. Quite an extensive wine list available by the bottle, glass or 3 oz tasting. Delicious food was enjoyed by all, such as the Meatballs En Croute, Deconstructed Pork Eggroll (a big hit with all 4 of us), Duck Duck Bacon Flatbread, and a charcuterie board. Unfortunately, every item on the website that I wanted to try was a "special" and not available and the waitress did not know when any of those entrees would be available. Walking around this Historic Waterfront town with all of its shops, restaurants and galleries can be a great way to spend a relaxing day in Havre de Grace. There are many choices where we could dine from Seafood, to Pizza. We had done our research on the town and had chosen the Vineyard as our final stop to a beautiful day of enjoying all that this gem of a town had to offer. The menu at the Vineyard is eclectic and well conceived and flawlessly executed. The menu is divide from small plates to larger plates with some in between sizes also available. From the Charcuterie board to the Salad with Poached Pear and Gorgonzola on Tri - Colored Lettuce Leaves. Our Appetizers were perfect. There were four of us that night with all of us opting for Seafood choice for our Main plates. The Maple Mustard glazed Salmon was cooked perfectly. As was the Rockfish and the Yellowfin Tuna. The Chef definitely knows how to prepare Seafood with a deft touch. I opted for some Cellantine Pasta with Roasted Shrimp, the garlic flavored Butter and Broth with tiny balls of melting mozzarella was to die for. The wine list is phenomenal for such a small operation and we were able to pair our appetizers and entrees to 3 ounce pours of two different California Chardonnays and a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. We chose two different desserts and my Lemon Torte was fantastic. So was the molten Chocolate cake. Good strong Coffee was the perfect ending to cap our night. We have been to the Vinyard on many, many occasions. Even going out of our way to support them during COVID. Our friends will drive over an hour and we drive appx 45 min to enjoy the food and the wine. Usually we specify the back room and get it without any hassle. This time, we were originally seated in the back room until we found out after being seated, two in our party could not make the lunch time we reserved. (mid-week) After already ordering and consuming half a bottle of prosecco, we were told that without a party of 6 we would have to MOVE. To the EMPTY restaurants' other seating area by the bar. Of course we objected since we were already settled. They told us we would have to close out the check and leave if we didn't move. What a great way to "delight the customer"!! Needless to say, we will NEVER return to this establishment with the attitudes presented to us today. There are too many other restaurants in the area for them to expect to stay in business with this approach to "fine" dining. I have to admit - finding this place in Havre de Grace was a complete surprise, in a very good way. We stopped in for a glass of wine or two and found a place with a wine inventory both broad and deep. The owner here obviously knows his wines - as evidenced by the amazing selection and extremely good prices.This Is the first time I have found Zuccardi's Bonardo since I've been back from Argentina. Even better - anything that you taste can also be purchased by the bottle as takeout at take out prices! not bar prices! We also had a wonderful pate plate. I'm not sure what the rest of the menus is like, but if that was any indication I'd be willing to try any number of other dishes. If you go, make sure to leave some time to peruse the wine library adjacent to the bar. You will find a wonderfully eclectic selection that will make you want to spend more time than you should eying the shelves. Even if it's out of your way bit this place is worth the trip. read more

This place is always a solid choice in HdG! Love their wine list and the various options they have (even if I nearly always order the same wine). Went just before Christmas and place still holds up. We started with a toasted pecan and orange salad and then had the meatballs en croute and the tuna bites. The meatballs were good but my Italian mother said they were only okay. The tuna bites were good - they felt like they had too much seasoning though. The Brazilian filet and gnocchi and shrimp were fantastic! Was a bit disappointed with the short rib special that night - felt dry and not very flavorful but the other dishes were great. Still appreciate that this is a small, well thought out menu and will certainly return. Service was good but also felt like the waiter was spread a bit thin and it took a lot of time for service and follow up. Really had a great experience and time here at The Vineyard, I made a reservation for me and my fiance for her birthday and they sat us at a private intimate table, which we loved, our server Gabrielle was great, knowledgeable and attentive at the right times, the red wine she recommended was excellent. We ordered several different appetizers including the cheese board and meatballs and they were both delicious, the main dishes we ordered were excellent as well, the filet and tortellini and the boar chop, both really delicious, this is our new favorite go to restaurant spot we absolutely will be back! read more

In addition to the amazing and tasty wine selection, the food is exceptional. I don't eat much meat, but I tasted my husband's Cubano sandwich and it was literally the best sandwich I have ever had. So many flavors just going together perfectly. Wow! Now there's a great Greek salad on the menu that is just exceptionally fresh and well-dressed. My mom, who is not a great salad eater, polished it off-- And we had a tomato-cucumber salad that was stacked with a sweeter dressing, but it interpolated with feta cheese. No to the other courses--the mushroom tart to die for, as well as great tuna with perfectly seasoned rice.
