Elizabeth's Farmhouse -- Putnam, Connecticut…read more By far one of the best meals I've ever had, and quite possibly the best burger of my life! Coming from Southern California with a culinary background, I'll admit my expectations can sometimes be modest when dining outside well-known food scenes. Elizabeth's Farmhouse didn't just exceed them--it blew them away. My wife and I arrived in Putnam looking for a quick bite and found this charming, approximately 50-seat restaurant with no wait. I ordered an Oktoberfest from a local brewery, while my wife chose an Old Fashioned. She ordered the Farmhouse Meatloaf Wrap, I chose the burger, and we shared the German Onion Soup. The German Onion Soup was outstanding. The onions were caramelized to a beautiful deep amber, with rich umami, subtle garlic and shallot, and a wonderfully developed beef broth. The crostini, topped with perfectly melted Gruyère, brought everything together. Every component was thoughtfully prepared and bursting with flavor. Then came the burger--and this was no ordinary burger. Cooked to a flawless medium-rare, it featured thick-cut applewood-smoked bacon, crispy red onions, aged sharp white cheddar, ancho chili barbecue sauce, and a perfectly seasoned Niman Ranch all-beef patty on a soft brioche bun. Every bite delivered an incredible balance of smoky, savory, sweet, and spicy flavors. Nothing overpowered anything else. Without question, this was one of the best burgers I've ever had. My wife's Farmhouse Meatloaf Wrap was equally impressive, featuring tender meatloaf, creamy mashed potatoes, aged white cheddar, and house-made chipotle mayonnaise. Rich, hearty comfort food elevated through thoughtful preparation and excellent execution. Even the fresh-cut fries deserve recognition. Cooked beautifully and served with house-made ketchup that reminded me of an Italian nonna's homemade marinara. When even the simplest condiment receives that much attention, you know you're dining somewhere special. By the end of our meal, both plates were completely clean. As someone with a culinary background, I appreciate the difference between food that is simply prepared and food crafted with genuine passion. Elizabeth's Farmhouse is a shining example of the latter. To the chef and everyone behind the scenes: your passion for food does not go unnoticed. You've created something truly special in Putnam, Connecticut. I rarely write restaurant reviews, but this experience absolutely deserved one. Five stars, without hesitation. I'll be back hungry for more!

The food is good, quite tasty delish! There's seasonal items so it's great to revisit and try new…read moreitems. The vegetables are fresh and the meats and seafood are seasoned well. The service is sometimes great; sometimes...so-so. I've gotten different kinds and difficult to make out what the standard is for service. Overall-- good-ish. I made a reservation and was on time but my table was given to another customer who did not rsvp and was asked to wait for 20+mins. Happened twice. The interior is cozy and tight; but very cute and nice. Like its name; it's like a farmhouse decor. The outside architecture is all black and it may look closed but it is the restaurant :) ! A good restaurant to try out !!!

the pretzels here are to die for! absolutely delicious, well seasoned and creative options. if i…read morelived nearby id be coming here for a beer and snack all the time. i got their elote special and it had a small bit of spice and plenty of flavor. the pretzel was warm with a perfect pillowy soft texture. honestly it was the best pretzel i've ever had. they also have beer flights and a wide range of local, national and international beers, so plenty to mix and match. it's always a nice touch to have a flight when offering a large selection, so huge plus for me. service here was fast and kind, we were able to order and get everything within 12 minutes. ambiance in here is nice, plenty of seating at the bar and around the restaurant. it's pretty cozy and warm in here but also has a few tvs for those wanting to catch a game.

I am almost at a loss for words for how shitty of an experience we recently had here…read more A small group of us (came in as 5 people, eventually were about 12) arrived around 11:15p after a wedding. This place doesn't close until 1a so our arrival shouldn't have been annoying. The place wasn't that busy for a Saturday night, and we were treated like we arrived at the worst possible time. Our server was visibly and audibly pissy that he had to wait on our table. There were only 5 of us at first and no one in our party was drunk our rowdy. Eventually a few more folks came in, including the bride and groom. And our grumpy ass server continued to be rude. He was annoyed he had to take our drink order, annoyed we wanted to order food AND the deciding factor to leave this review was... We had ordered some pretzels, which they are known for, and were very good. We had to wait a while for him to come back to ask him for plates and utensils. He literally dropped a stack of plates in front of me, and what appeared to be every fork in the building, well beyond what we could have possibly needed and said "this is everything we have" with the nastiest attitude. It was so excessive and so over the top that we were speechless. His attitude did not match anything happening in that building. We all have bad days but if you want people to come into your establishment throwing forks down like a toddler is not the way to get repeat business. Hands down one of the shittiest experiences I've had in a long while. If you are looking for any sense of customer service - go somewhere else. Unless, of course, a borderline abusive server is your jam - then you're in luck!
