    Falafel Sandwich
    Alex C.

In the area and looking for a great Falafel sandwich. I found this gem Falafel Queen. Sits on the corner of Pico and Redondo. Parking is street only, good luck. I got lucky and found parking on Redondo. Small dining area. Walked in and noticed nobody there. I was about to walk out when I was greeted by the employee on duty. Asked me if I had ever tried this place. No first time here and I had come for a Falafel sandwich. His eyes lit up and said "vas a probar el falafel sandwich mas chingon." I was like ok lay it on me. As he started to prepare it. I didn't get the gentleman's name he is from Oaxaca and he did make a chingon Falafel sandwich. It's hard to find places that stuff the pita bread with the ingredients. Great falafels cooked just right with all the ingredients stuffed into the pita and topped off with two potato chips. Nice touch. If ever in the area and craving a Falafel sandwich try the Falafel Queen it's chingona.

Family had a hankering for falafel so I let Yelp find me a spot nearby...which was the Falafel Queen. Small innocuous spot, no frills but clean - this place is made for "to go." Food was pretty good for the price, but not exceptional. 3.75/5 stars. I could come back.

I stopped by Falafel Queen today and had the Steak Shish Kabob sandwich--so good ! The owner, Benito, mentioned he's aiming to have the El Segundo location up and running by September.

Easy pickup! The falafel and schwarma plates come with generous portions and the meat was tender. The falafel were disc shaped instead of balls like I'm uses to, but didn't impact the flavor.

The falafel pita sandwich consists of herby, well-seasoned deep fried falafel balls that are crunchy on the outside yet still fresh and moist on the inside. It is served in a pita pocket full of fresh veggies and freshly made hummus with bonus pieces of deep fried, battered thinly pieces of potatoes. Falafel Queen is a continuation of what once was a popular restaurant in Westwood. The owners decided to closed down and thankfully Benito who worked there as the cook/chef for over 25 years decided to open a his own restaurant and continue the tradition. This Mediterranean food made quickly and fresh to order. The chicken shawarma is also delicious and you can't go wrong with an extra side order of the deep fried potatoes and babaghanoush. Benito is always very attentive, quick and welcoming. The restaurant is tiny and parking is limited but it's definitely worth the trek.

Falafel Queen, tasty Mediterranean food, big portions, low prices, awesome patio, equals happy customers. Cars are buzzing by, construction in the distance, (building it back better) Jamaican tunes are playing softly from the market just north. I scored a free street parking spot, ordered and took a seat on the patio. I has the place all to myself. The owner will talk you through an order, make recommendations based on your diet, allergies, preferences, which is how I ended up with the gorgeous plate of healthy keto-friendly food pictured in this review! Grilled lamb and steak plate with salad, hummus and eggplant. Delicious. The grilled meats are savory, marinated and lean. The hummus is creamy and mild, the eggplant caviar (my favorite) is like whipped heavy cream made of sesame and eggplant. Premium Micro greens soak up tasty sauce left on your plate. Or. Get the pita instead of salad, it looks great. Falafel Queen participates with all the delivery companies and offers coupons and discounts! Will definitely be back!

Spicy eggplant , spicy so heads up!

If you remember the Falafel King spots in Westwood this is one of the cooks that used to work there that owns it. Space is small with a few tables inside and not much outside as it is a corner spot. So this is more of a "grab and go" spot The food, is fresh to order and is tasty. What I ordered was the combo salad which comes with five sides and 4 falafel and a pita bread. Red hot sauce that will put hair on your chest! Although it's a small space the food is fresh and the service right from the owner/chef/cashier can't be beat. Recommend it highly!! Also the owner is Oaxacan!!

Ask the Community - Falafel Queen

Are you affiliated at all with Falafel King that used to be in Westwood?

Yes. I went there and spoke to the guy. It is the cook from Falafel King. There he was an employee. Now this is his own shop.

Are the falafels, hummus, pita vegan?

Do they have the old potatoe chips from the old falafel king?

I don't think so. But I've heard he's the cook from there.

Where is this located? There is no address!

It was mostly pita bread with very little chicken inside. After just a couple of bites, it was practically flat because there was barely any filling. It honestly felt like I paid for air. If you're going to offer a promotion, the quality and portion size should be consistent with the regular item. The food is fantastic, which is why this experience was so disappointing. Killer Kabab (fast food mediterranean) has two locations, with the other being in the Sawtelle area near West LA. There are multiple Kabab shops near the hotel that we were staying, so chose the closest one. It wasn't too busy inside, with plenty of seating so placed our order and paid through the kiosk. The food took a bit of time to come out, delivered to our table. No soda fountain, so got a can of soda ($1.99) which you pick up yourself from the nearby bev fridge. We shared a Mix Grill plate ($21.95), consisting of a variety of things, all of which we enjoyed. The bed of tumeric rice was well cooked. The beef fillet, chicken breast chunks, and the beef kofta were all excellent: very tender, well seasoned, and well grilled. A few grilled vegetables were added, along with a really good plain hummus and pita braed. It also came with two side dips/pastes: a really good garlic paste that went great with the grilled beef and a yellow 'buttery' sauce that was great with the chicken. It also came with a small side salad, and some really tart pepperoncini. All of this added to a good light(er) meal, mixing various tastes and textures really well.

I hunted a bit before tracking down a spot and paying the meter. I have not been to Dune before, but the value of the lunch special along with the promise of a fried chicken shawarma, coupled with unexpected free time, sounded like a promising moment to stop by. Walked up to the window and after no acknowledgement, I peaked inside the door and asked whether I place an order at the counter or wait to be seated. When I tell you the jarring elder Gen Z stare and incredibly unfriendly direction to sit on the bench and wait my turn (in the literal sense that I was told to sit on the bench and wait my turn. There was only a party of 2 seated at the bench and no line to speak of) made me regret coming out to eat entirely. I'm not lying when I say I thought about leaving immediately and driving home in my air conditioned car instead of sitting on a hot bench in nearly 100 degree weather with no acknowledgement of party size, no offer for a drink or water while I wait, and just existing in my bizarre humiliation ritual for having asked what the procedure is here for any kind of recognition of my interest in dining or simply existing. And yes, after sitting down I saw there is a small low contrast sign on a post stating to sit on the bench and wait, but it is positioned parallel to the counter window and only when turning away from the glass toward the seating area was it placed in a way that I would see it. Not very useful for someone who is walking up or down the sidewalk as it's not visible. I held my breath for about 10 minutes before being asked my party size (one) and seated at a shaded table. I regretted my choice to dine out the entire wait time for the table, while ordering and then being required to pay upfront before my meal was even presented to me, while seated awaiting my order, while my food (loaded fries, fried chicken shawarma, date shake and an added unsweetened iced green mint tea) was dumped at once on the table in front of me, while eating feeling humiliated for existing inside human skin, and again when having to walk to the window and ask for a to-go box. I felt like a massive inconvenience for the staff and fully regretted bothering them every step of the way for normal things like a Dine LA menu which was not initially offered, adding an iced tea to my order, existing in a metal folding chair and generally taking up space. I don't like being treated like a turd by people, and certainly don't want to be treated this way when I'm paying for a service. But after the initial flubbed interactions, demanding payment with tip upfront before receiving any kind of service was rendered, and then dumping my food at the table without ceremony, it's truly no wonder why the LA restaurant scene is dying. Between poorly trained staff, rising costs in rent and utilities, the outrageous cost of staffing and the fact that eating at a restaurant is completely unnecessary when cutting household expenses, restaurants are disappearing left and right. Some of the foods I still dream about are lost forever to closure after closure. Customers being treated like they're inconsequential isn't the only reason people like me usually choose to dine at home, and it's not the only reason restaurants are disappearing. But it's one of the only controllable elements in a world of runaway hospitality expenses. Customers deserve even a modicum of respect if restaurants are going to survive. $48 for the meal including tax and tip. More than enough food for lunch, I took home half. Loaded steak fries / wish they were served with a whipped feta or dipping sauce instead of ketchup but they're good. Generous portion of steak. 9/10 Fried chicken shawarma / fun idea, execution made it difficult to pick up to eat. Serving in a metal basket made it impossible to cut in half since there was not a solid surface to cut against. Flavor is yummy, wish those middle eastern flavors were more prominent in the batter but the chicken is extra crispy. Enjoyable. 8/10 Date shake / luxurious, creamy, flavorful. No notes. 10/10 Unsweetened green mint iced tea / overpriced, underdelivered. I'd skip it unless you're parched. 5/10 **written without the assistance of AI**
