I walked around a few blocks in every direction and found the usual urban suspects--cafes, $$$$ dining, sketchy corner stores, lackluster hole-in-the-walls, chain food, and a whole lot of gritty LA galore. Nothing really stood out for going solo besides Dune. Service was straightforward. Menu was comprehensive and what you'd want and expect from a Mediterranean establishment. The interior was small but cozy and well decorated--somewhere between boho chic and French bistro. Food was outstanding. I ordered the hummus and steak plate with an herbal iced tea and both brought me back to life. I know Mediterranean dishes usually incorporate fresh herbs but this particular plating was superb. I saw generous pinches of dill and mint marrying everything together. The assortment of hummus, steak, spring greens, dollops of yogurty goodness, basmati, pickled onions and beets plus the flatbread and a lemon wedge was harmoniously flavorful. I ordered this via Postmates and am so glad I decided to give this a try. The fried chicken plate is so good! And so filling. I love the vibrant colors of all the different items on the plate and how the portion is decent for the price. $20 for the plate was steep at first but I was glad to see how much stuff is included. The fried chicken is perfectly cooked and the hummus is good! The rice and pickled veggies are also a nice touch to finish the dish off. :) I like the flat bread that comes with the order. There's a perfect amount of different flavors of each item on the plate. I've also tried the falafel plate and it was good. I definitely prefer the falafel overall because they were perfectly cooked! Crispy and not dry compared to other places I've tried. The filling is full and the texture wasn't hard. My only complaint to this would be I NEVER get utensils which is frustrating lol. While in DTLA, I decided to grab some lunch at Dune. It's been on my to try list since they've been in Atwater, so I'm glad I finally had a chance to try it here. I opted for the meze plate to go. The food was really delicious and I actually really enjoyed it, however, I would've enjoyed it more if the items were in small different dishes. By the time I got home, my to go plate was everywhere and everything was a little mushed. Both the chicken and the falafel in the meze plate was really good. My favorite was their pita bread. I got the Hummus And Falafel Plate, a good sampling of the vegetarian items. This came with cabbage, pitas, and a salad. Good service and the food came out fast. It's not like they cooked it half assed though. Falafel was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The rest mixed good together.
