On the way to Chicago , we had to make a stop for dinner. My co-worker and I were craving some Mexican food in the Valparaiso area. We decided to go with the one with only one Yelp review (5). I'm glad we did! This place is small!! 10 tables and 4 (maybe 5) bar seats! But we got right in and sat immediately. Our server was awesome, and she was checking on us every 10 minutes or so. Absolutely great service! The food was excellent! My co-worker had the Arroz con pollo, and I had the Quesadilla Mexican. The chicken was so juicy and flavorful in both of our meals. The quesadilla had spicy chorizo in addition to the delicious chicken, and both were huge portions! Good enough, right?? Wrong! I drank a couple of Contaritas (tequila, grapefruit soda, and Grand Marnier with a Tajin rim), and they were so flavorful.... and only $7.99!! We had chips and salsa, which were great, and the queso was pretty good, too! Definitely will find this place again.

I can't say enough about this place. I had pork nachos with their hot salsa which is amazing! Hannah was our server who was taking care of the inside tables and was fabulous!!!!! She was so attentive to all her tables and treated us as though we were the only ones in the restaurant! Ask for her to be your server... you will not be disappointed! Thank you Hannah!!!

Rocking good to have a new place for Mexican food. I have to work on moving the yelp dot so the place is easier to find.

The owner & hostess was extremely bright & engaging & provided the perfect table for our party of 4 adults plus my 1 year old nephew. The table bread was a beautifully light & herby focaccia paired w some sort of artisan butter. Definitely hit the spot. All entrees were really nicely done. I so enjoyed the scallops appetizer as my entree. Perfectly cooked & seasoned & served w roasted garlic cloves & a luscious sauce. A lot of surprises & all of them reasons to return.

Unfortunately, when a place is this level of hype and price, the first trip means a ton and the expectations are high. The good: - awesome atmosphere, deck is great, and overlooks the lake. Couldn't be a better spot to dine out. - service was good, even though they were busy they didn't have us wait a while for anything. -scallops were excellent, perfect sear on them. The reason for the low review: - Beef Wellington.... It's rare to find and we heard so many people comment that's why they were they, including us. It says 10 oz filet, it was not tonight. It was some 3 sliced cut beef that was well well done. Despite being told it would be medium rare. - Seasoning. Nothing had salt or pepper. Everything had garlic. And by garlic I mean huge cloves of it. Both the scallops and filet had cloves of garlic all over. The filet was cooked great, but I didn't have any juice from the steak and the flavor was blown out by the garlic. Just refer to a majority of my reviews, more than willing to pay a premium price for an awesome dining experience, but the food is first and foremost important. Maybe we got them on a bad night, but unfortunately that was our experience. Edited to add pictures to review from 05June.

The wholesale delivery service does have wild-caught salmon for a minimal increase in cost. Like most of the wait staff in Valparaiso, attention (eye contact) is cursory and superficial, which shows that the customers are to be sold but not really appreciated as their sole income source. Eg: Dirty fork with dirty dishes between courses: "Do you want to keep that fork?" We realize that it is Indiana, but take a ride over to Gambas for some service training. It really is not about the wait staff.

The place is pleasantly dim inside, and classy but casual. The bartender was friendly and efficient and didn't chat a whole lot, which I appreciated. I just wanted a glass of red wine, and I found that here. They have a whole page of their menu dedicated to wine. They also have cocktails and beer and things, but that wasn't on my radar. I didn't try any of the food, but they do have some. The thing about this place is that it's good for families and also for couples wanting an intimate night out, and also a lady by herself wanting a drink at the bar. It's all encompassing!

Having a private room made the evening feel so special, and the team was incredibly accommodating throughout the entire planning process. We also had some trouble connecting to the room's speaker to play our music, and the staff was so patient and determined to help. They took the time to troubleshoot the issue with us until everything was working because they genuinely wanted us to have the best night celebrating my sister. That extra level of care and hospitality meant so much and made the evening even more memorable. The food, service, and atmosphere were all outstanding, and we couldn't have asked for a better place to celebrate such a special occasion. The groom and I barely had to think about anything going on behind the scenes, which allowed us to simply enjoy the night and spend time with our guests. We truly could not be happier with how our reception turned out. Having the food, bar, and hotel all right on the property was also incredibly convenient for us and our guests. We cannot thank Sandy and the staff enough for running such a wonderful reception hall and helping make our wedding day so special. We would absolutely recommend the Speakeasy to anyone looking for a wedding venue!

Website does not make it clear! I want to preface, I had frequented the Spa restaurant in the 1970-1990's. The ambiance and history of the place made it so charming, along w the raccoon show! I am thrilled someone is keeping the speakeasy alive! So many wonderful memories!! With that said, I don't live " down the street" so to speak. We come out on Sunday's to hike the nearby trails or use the beaches. With the area now designated as a National Lakeshore, it would be to this establishments benefit to open from 11 am /12pm on Saturday & Sunday! If I knew they would be open, I'd love to stop in after spending time at the National Park! You're losing business to Wagner's!
