We booked a few nights at the Marriott Durango and were disappointed with our experience, particularly during check-in. As Titanium members, I inquired about a room upgrade. The front desk associate told me she would be happy to provide an upgrade, but I would have to pay the difference in room cost. When I mentioned our Titanium status, she explained that due to a recent system upgrade, the computer would not allow complimentary upgrades and that a guest the previous day had been charged extra when she attempted one. After getting to our room, I called the Titanium support line, which appeared to route to the standard Marriott customer service number. The representative initially tried to assist with the upgrade request but eventually transferred me to a manager. After explaining the situation, he placed me on hold and contacted the hotel. When he returned, he stated that upgrades are not guaranteed and that I would need to pay for any upgraded room. When I asked why, he became defensive and ultimately ended the call, which was frustrating. The room itself was nice and clean, but for a stay of several days, it would have been nice to have a larger room with a couch or additional living space. The hotel is conveniently located about a five-minute drive from downtown Durango and the train station. Breakfast was just okay; we mainly had cereal and drinks. One highlight of the property is the beautiful outdoor patio area, where deer frequently walk by while guests relax. Overall, the hotel has a good location and pleasant outdoor space, but the handling of elite benefits and customer service left us disappointed they had the rooms to upgrade it's not like the place was packed. This is the second Marriott that this happened all the others we had no issue on our 3 week trip. read more

It is on the outer edge of the town. Walkable but we didn't bother. Hotel is clean. Slow elevator - one for each floor (I think). Jacuzzi is out. Front desk is vacant at time, such as during the breakfast time. Weak water pressure, slow WiFi; no usb ports. When I ask for a lotion, they ask me to go down to get it. Breakfast is chaotic. Diluted orange juice. Not enough seating and outdoors is too cold. read more

Nice hotel.. spacious and clean rooms.. Breakfast was ok.. the parking spots were tightly packed and not that wide for even suvs, and it was snowing and iced up.. so navigating entry and exiting the vehicle doors was tricky.. The hotel was pretty pricey, though, for the services that were offered.. Location wise, it was close to downtown and the Durango train station. read more

Stayed here two nights while touring in the area. Was happy to get an upgraded room as a Gold member. The room was nice as was the bathroom. You can tell this is a newer Fairfield Inn. You could walk to downtown though it is about a mile. With the weather oscillating between 94 degrees and threats of thunderstorms we opted to drive into town. The biggest standout of this stay was the superb service given by the gent who ran the breakfast buffet in the morning. We have stayed at probably a hundred of this type of hotel and never have seen a worker own the breakfast buffet experience. He was friendly and helpful - clearing our table, asking what we needed, etc. Very impressive. read more

I don't know when this was built, but it felt new. Everything in the room worked, which is unusual. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The community areas also were clean and well cared for. The guy working the breakfast area was totally on it- you couldn't tell a succession of families with small kids had just trashed a table. Great sleep. Beds were comfy. Very accommodating with extra bedding for my kiddo that refused to sleep next to anyone so we made a pallet on the floor. Two TVs in the room, which helped with adults vs kids content when we were winding down in the hotel at night. Best part is the deers that come to great the guests at breakfast. The breakfast attendants leave deer feed out and they come right up to the perimeter. Really fun! Also, the allowed my son to play Roblox on the lobby computer. Overall great service. read more

The hotel was very clean and comfortable, but the best part of our stay was meeting Chef Ralph. It's very nice when a hotel offers breakfast, but Chef Ralph takes it up a notch with greeting the guests and doing whatever he can to make their experience special. We visited Durango for a hockey tournament and all the teams stayed here. The room was perfect for what we needed. It was clean and the TV worked I mean, what more do you want, really? They have a small pool and a hot tub that the kids could rage around in and the free breakfast was a nice spread. We are definitely coming back this summer for some other business. As a Bonvoy Titanium Elite I've seen my share of Bonvoy properties. The Durango location has the look of most Fairfield Inn locations and has all the usual amenities. The onsite staff here however are some of the best I have encountered. Friendly, quick check-in. Willing to help suggest things to do and places to see in the area. What really impressed me however was when I showed up for breakfast at 0925 and realized that the time for breakfast had ended at 0900 that the team quickly asked what I they could get me, what I would like, etc. They insisted I sit down, relax and they would make sure I didn't leave hungry. Wow. Most locations breakfast is a hard closure - lights out, doors locked, etc. It was so refreshing to have a different experience! Thank you to the Fairfield Inn & Suites team in Durango! I stayed at a Marriott in Austin, Texas, a few weeks ago that shut down their restaurants, public bathrooms, fitness center and pool. No room cleaning during our stay. This Marriott had everything open! We were too late for eggs and bacon, but they gave us cold cereal, milk, and muffins in a bag for breakfast. They have a nice indoor pool, hot tub, fitness center, laundry room, and business center with printers. There are frozen and regular snacks available to purchase in the front lobby. Our room was quiet and nicely decorated. It had a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Pull-out desk/table. Comfortable mattress, pillows (could have used more though), and bedding. No bathtub, but the shower was large. read more

Chef Ralph made our stay just perfect. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. When Chef found out he made us the most delectable salmon dinner just for us! The convenient location was an easy walk to the Durango River Walk Trail. The suites made our 7 day stay exceptionally comfortable. The entire staff were friendly and accommodating. However Chef Ralph is a shining star that went above and beyond! I would highly recommend. read more

Very clean and neat, with the COVID scenario, I wouldn't expect anything to be any different from a Marriott property. Felt very safe and comfortable. We stay at this chain most of the time and it is surprising how customer service varies so much . This one was disappointing. The room had an air conditioner that roared like a jet engine on and off all night long . The breakfast serving crew was unwelcoming to say the least . The little bit of eggs bacon and hash brown was cold ... thank heavens there is always a microwave in the room . The serving staff Made me feel like I was bothering them !! This is a pretty standard Fairfield Inn. While I didn't personally meet chef Ralph, I did hear him talking to other guests and it seems like he is very passionate about his job which is awesome. The cable was out while we were there due to some storms. Also, I asked for a late check out and got it, but somehow that didn't make it in my file or make it to housekeeping and I kept getting interrupted by them knocking on my door while I was trying to have business meetings. That was a frustrating experience for me. read more

Checked in after 9 hour drive. Arrived 10pm. Exhausted. Hotel ok. TV would turn on but not chg channels. And, try as we might, couldn't find switch to turn off light by coffee maker. Called front desk 3 times. Finally reached a clerk who told us to "keep looking for light switch" "it is hard to find". THEN PUT A SIGN IN THE COFFEE MAKER AREA. And, clearly annoyed, she said she would come fix our tv. I said NO. (We were already in bed.) Just thought they'd want to fix so the next guest wasn't disappointed. Her response... "Since you won't let me fix it, I'll do that." SNOT. She needs customer service training. read more

We travel all over the country, at minimum 12 hotel stays per month. I highly recommend this hotel, the front desk staff are friendly and professional. The hotel is clean, quiet and new. The very best part of staying in this hotel is getting to meet Ralph, the chef. While you can always eat the normal offerings, Ralph will personally prepare a breakfast for you that is out of this world. The breakfast, along with his wonderful personality and great conversation make this a hotel that we will definitely return to! read more

No one loves Marriott more than me. I stay no other place during my travels. I love everything about Marriott and have always had an amazing stay. This one time was not the case. From the minute my family got to our room, things went sideways. While in our room, someone else tried to enter and upon conversation learned they had same room number. Shortly thereafter, power to all of Durango went out and remained out till 8pm. No way the hotels fault but some sort of dialogue or interaction about the dilemma would have been helpful in such a small hotel. When power was back up and while laying in bed I could not get away from the sounds heard from other rooms and the hallway. The walls here are just too thin I guess. While traveling in the elevator later in the evening my daughter was freaked out by how loud it was and thought it was going to stop working. Lastly, as a platinum member, I can't imagine the perk of such work is a bedroom view of a garbage can. Just a bummer. Why not one star? Marriott is an amazing brand that I love and I chalk this up to one bad experience. Upon next visit, i will be trying the Marriott Residence Inn next door. read more

We really loved our room -- two things stood out: 1) The bed was super comfortable, unlike the firm mattresses we slept on at other places during our two-week road trip across the southwest. 2) The bathroom, especially the shower, showed that staying at a newer hotel can be worthwhile. There is a light especially for the walk-in shower area, the controls for the water is next to the user on the wall, rather than under the shower, and there is no visible drain, the water flows to the front and under a bar to the drain. Really easier to see than describe - sorry I didn't take a picture. Also, the staff at checkin (we had already "checked in" using the web on our phone) was very cheerful and helpful. Cons: the room was a bit smaller than we might have liked, the breakfast was pedestrian, I guess you could make yourself a waffle, but the bagels and English muffins were unexceptional at best. Great stay during a global pandemic. Everything was freshly sanitized and well appointed. A continental breakfast was provided including eggs, sausage and omelettes. There is a seating area for dining that is open. Service dogs are permitted, but not pets. There are capacity limits on the swimming pool and in the fitness center. Breakfast was the typical assortment of items found at hotel breakfast spreads. What made breakfast at the Fairfield Inn and Suites exceptional was Chef Ralph. His attention to detail, warm nature, and engaging conversation was enjoyed by all guests. On top of Chef Ralph's personal touches, each morning we were entertained by watching the local deer enjoy their breakfast just outside the windows of the dining room. Since March 7, 2022, I have stayed in 9 different hotels. Only this hotel elevator snapped shut suddenly and gave me a scar. Urgent Care, follow up to get stitches out, and dermatologist appointment were the result. As indicated above, I had no other trouble with any other hotel. Worst Customer Experience in my life! After booking rooms, months in advance, we needed to cancel our trip due to the air conditions caused by a wildfire nearby. For almost a week, the manager would not take or returns calls. After calling corporate several times, I finally got the general manager in Durango who refused to refund our payment, refused to work with us on rescheduling for a different time, and refused any type of resolution. More or less told us "there's nothing I can do". Marriott corporate and this local hotel each pointed fingers at the other one in a blame-game which left us paying for rooms we couldn't use. Makes me want to never book a Marriott hotel again in my life. read more

Called for a reservation was placed on hold five different times by the same person called Jessica. Extremely rude did not answer my questions and hung up on me three times out of the five this is unbelievable I detracted my reservation and will not stay in this place. If this is how they treat customers on the phone I can't even imagine once they stay! read more

This hotel is a newer hotel but don't let it fool you because our room had multiple issues and was not cleaned appropriately before our arrival. We found hair on our pillows and all over the bathroom. The door didn't shut properly and someone kept trying to open our door, the shower head was missing and the shower ceiling wasn't painted. The bed was more uncomfortable then the floor. Overall it was very disappointing and disgusting. read more

I should have known better when I saw them rated at 2.5 stars. Don't waste your money here. They are very unscrupulous. I am Platinum Elite with Marriott and the manager twice would not let the front desk upgrade me. I stayed four nights and twice asked for an upgrade. Both times the clerk told me they had the upgrade available. Each time I was told I could move to an upgraded room, I got a call back saying they made a mistake. The manager, Adrienne made the front desk lie to me. Very unprofessional. Also, there was vomit in the hallway of the main floor and it remained there all day. You have other options in Durango that are cleaner and will treat you with respect. I wish I could give zero stars on this review. read more

By contrast to other Fairfield Inn hotels, this place is top notch. We stayed for 3 nights and felt completely at home. The entire staff cared well for us, but I can't say enough about Chef Ralph. Absolutely terrible experience at this hotel from other guest have no respect for others And when you call down to the front desk to have this taken care of because you're woken up at 3 o'clock in the morning to door slamming and a girl screaming and the front desk person basically tells you they just checked and give it time they'll settle down this went on for 30 minutes then to the cleanliness of the bathroom so I go down first thing this morning to talk to management he was too busy to talk to me instead stayed on the phone then I tried six more times with no luck I even left my cell phone number to have him call me when he had a moment I've waited all day come to find out he's the actual GM of this property and he still has not called me even the gal at the front desk agreed that it was ridiculous will never stay at this facility again and I'm a platinum member it's pretty sad the way I was treated. read more

It's always frightening to book a hotel you've never seen before. When we planned a ski trip to Durango, we had hoped to stay closer to Purgatory Resort, and I'll be honest this hotel wasn't in our top picks based on distance alone. However--and this is a BIG however--the reviews on every other hotel scared us. We trust Marriott, so we expanded the distance and Fairfield Inn & Suites popped up. We took the chance, and I'm so glad we did. This hotel isn't on the main drag of Durango, which was actually a relief. Yes, we had to wake up earlier to get to the mountain, but since Fairfield provided a pretty good continental breakfast, it worked out for the best anyway. Our room was clean, blessedly on the end of a hall next to a side entrance, which made loading and unloading snowboard gear a breeze. For the most part, it was also pretty quiet. There were a few excited kids running around each morning, and on our last morning we could hear a bunch of guys smoking and talking in the parking lot. Annoying, yes, but certainly not the hotel's fault. By the end of our trip, we actually ended up preferring our location because after a long day on the slopes, we could come back to base camp, shower, get dressed, and then head out to Main Street for dinner and drinks knowing "home" was 5 minutes away. We'll definitely seek out Fairfield Inn & Suites next time we're in Durango. read more
