Amazing horse sleigh ride in the snow! The guide was very patient even though we were a bit late…read moredue to misunderstanding on a meeting spot. He kindly bundled us up in layers of blankets, offered to take pictures on number of occasions both off and in the horses, took us around on the sleigh with a pleasant & informative conversations throughout. It was snowing and with a three year old who wasn't a very happy camper so I was sure how this will go but in a magical moment the leader foggier excitedly took off and her "kisses" started the horses, alas! She was a completely excited and extremely happy camper! My hubby and the munchkin got to ride in the front with the guide and "drive" too! I wish the tour was longer! I never wanted it to end! So magical and amazing experience AND it wasn't very expensive. $45 per adult and $35 per child was nothing for this unforgettable experience!!! He said they have a pony/goat/donkey... I don't rem what he said but some other ride my munchkin would be able to do in the spring/summer. I can't wa to go back to Durango for another magical vacation!! And to think I only stumbled upon this when I wa frantically trying to find a fun activity to replace the original plan of going tubing (found out it wasn't open on weekdays)... This was slightly confusing upon our arrival, but we figured it out. Upon our arrival (those of us who are on time), were greeted by Amber! She caught onto our family banter quickly and went through the Do's & Don'ts. There were 50 of us, so we certainly needed this. The Lodge is spacious and multiple beautiful views. I watched the sunrise over the mountains on the spa balcony every morning. A great way to prepare yourself for the chaos of a family reunion, and just Be for a moment! The Lodge had plenty of space for eating together, games and we even put on a talent show! The game room and dining area were the most used. We had ages from 4-months to old AF, and everyone enjoyed themselves. The Lodge is in close proximity to Purgatory, Bears Ranch (horseback riding), trails, water leisure, and a local bar, The Nugget. We then moved over to the field side (site #88), which we honestly liked even more as it felt like we had our own little somewhat private piece of Colorado paradise as the back side of our spot opened into a large field. We rented a cabin for 3 nights for our boys to come visit us and it was very clean and comfortable for them (no bathrooms inside though). The restroom facility was always spotless and the front desk staff were always very helpful. HIGHLY recommend this campground!

This last time, the pool was out of order when we arrived. We were told they the pool would be back online in two days. After waiting a week, I asked for a partial refund since they advertised the pool. The following day they opened the pool. The water was so cloudy that you could not see the bottom of the pool in the 3 foot section, and the water temperature was ice cold. The heater was set to 74 degrees F, but it did not seem to be working. They told me I could go swimming in the Animas River! Many of the sites were far from level. Their free wifi was completely worthless. Their high speed wifi was better, but still lots of buffering. The staff seems unconcerned with customer complaints.

Despite the trailer tire blowing and spending half the day in Farmington NM we finally made it up here and between the kids being back in school and most of the families gone for the season being 55 and a long time empty nester it's perfectly peaceful for us we couldn't be more happy. The staff here is truly amazing and always helpful. There's tent sites and rv spots with full hookups. There's also cabin rentals for family or groups and if I'm not mistaken one is actually pet friendly but you will want to call before making a reservation with your fur babies and the cabins. 8 years of beautiful Colorado and we have our reservation already made for the 2027 seaaon.

The campground is located right on the Dolores River. Sometimes the river is low, sometimes the river is high...all thanks to Mother Nature. The location is truly perfect. About a half hour into the town of Dolores, maybe a half hour to Trout Lake, minutes to Rico and close enough to take day trips to Telluride and Ouray for exploring. The campground itself is spotless. There are restrooms with showers. The front office has a cute little shop with all the basic necessities as well as soft serve ice cream!!! Saturdays are our favorites as the campground brings in warm homemade cinnamon rolls. I miss it already and I just left this morning. If you must, book early, I mean real early, like a year in advance. That's how special this place is, a slice of heaven that I'd love to keep all for myself!!!
