This such a fantastic ranch. The staff is super friendly, and willing to help and accommodate. The cabin we stayed in ("The Birdhouse") was really nice, with western themed furnishings, really soft, comfortable beds, and lots of windows to appreciate the amazing view. Our family of four (2 adults, 2 boys eight and ten), fit very comfortably. The ranch itself is really well kept and clean, I noticed everything was very organized and well maintained. They have very nice buildings, with small shops, and a large lodge where they have internet, and meals. We were only able to stay for one week, but it will be an experience we will never forget. Best vacation ever! Girls trip for us (Yee Haw!) The horses were wonderful, the staff was awesome and went out of their way to accommodate every little thing without even being asked, the food was incredible, the weather was perfect, the views spectacular, and the cabin was fantastic. Fresh air, good food, comfortable beds, exercise, horses and great people. Cannot say enough good things about this ranch. I was especially impressed with their commitment to the welfare of the animals, checking them over every day, and making their health and wellbeing a priority. Many of the staff there have worked for animal rescue and humane societies in the past and it shows in the care of their horses - the horses are well fed, in good condition, sweet and gentle. This was a fabulous multigenerational vacation! The Remuda cabin was awesome. It was spotlessly clean and comfortable with wonderful porches to relax on. The food was great. The activities were fun fun fun. The horse back riding, fishing, fly fishing, hayrides, cookouts, rafting were great. Our grand boys, 7 and 9 were in seventh heaven. They had other kids to play with. The Ruckus room and ice cream shop were a huge hit with the kids. It was so safe for them to independently go from cabin to ruckus room to dining room by themselves. The pool was great to jump into after a full day of activities. But what made this ranch exceptional was the staff. Jeanne, and Keith run the ranch like a well oiled machine. It's a huge job. Their personalities along with Katelyn. Marie, Hunter, Holly, Ellie, Eric, and all the rest were amazing. There wasn't anything they wouldn't do for you. And always with huge, sincere smiles. Awesome All inclusive Ranch horse riding- fly fishing- kids archery, shooting- swimming- hikes Amazing quality food. Brian & Kathy put on a show each meal. (you might not wanna bring your skinny jeans!) Each meal had high quality, perfectly cooked meat, lots of vegetables or fruit (breakfast) awesome bread (different each night) and a yummy dessert after dinner. They will run into town and get you anything you forgot and just put it on your room- so nice! kids Claritin saved the week! They will even pick up beer and wine for you (The only thing not included in your $ for all inclusive) Very clean, super comfortable new cabins (2012-2015) Cool log siding and big log posts. Huge porches front and back of cabins. (Note: some have tubs, some have showers.) Some have mini fridges and ranch has big ice machine and foam coolers for your use as well as 3 washers & dryers. If you'll never use your cowboy boots or don't want to ruin yours- you can borrow from a huge selection. Very cool 'Ruckus Room' for kids with a pool table, 2 ping pong tables, air hockey, board games, bathroom. Soda fountain with ice cream, floats and shakes - a few additional $ each. our kids loved being able to go by themselves up to purchase a float then hit the ruckus room. (You can tell the staff a daily limit if you wish.) The staff are great. Wranglers (horsemen) are the best! they had all levels riding well and having a blast. from 5 years to 70 and all abilities. They do a VERY good job. Each morning and afternoon the kids break into groups with their counselors and get to decide to ride, fish, shoot or do archery- sometimes several things! The adults get to go with their own groups to ride or fish or nap or read! Kid free! wahoo. Such a relaxing week. To be honest, we're still exhausted from the riding ;) We loved the ability to do a family ride a few mornings instead of splitting. A wrangler took just our family out at a level our kids were comfortable with and see amazing views- even ride through some streams! The horses are also the best trained I've seen. Awesome. Calm. and they know their jobs and the trails well. Although sometimes they did want to go home to the barn before we did ;) Amazing week. Gorgeous unmatched views everywhere. Amazing food. Great freedom for kids and parents to do their own thing and still supervised. You should just book it now! :) read more

Short version - This was the best vacation of our life Long version - We are fairly well traveled, been to lots cities, countries, cruises, etc. We typically stay in 5-star properties when we travel. There was not a single complaint that we have about our trip. The staff here is unbeatable. It's better than "just ask and they'll do anything". You don't even have to ask, they just do it. Cabins - They are VERY well kept, extremely clean, and fairly new. Beds were comfy, nice furnishings, etc. Every detail was thought of - plenty of hooks to hang hats, etc. Food - Everything was delicious. Most meals weren't overtly fancy, but everything was great. They accommodated all special requests for vegetarians, etc. At breakfast there was plenty of milk options (almond, oat, cow, etc). Meals ranged from hamburgers, to eggs and grits, to an adult dinner with duck, friend polenta, etc. Most meals were in the dining room, but there were several dinners, 1 lunch, and 1 breakfast that were done "on the trail". Activities - I was concerned that my timid 8 year old wouldn't want to get on a horse or participate in the kids program. Jeanne assured me that my child wouldn't have to participate in anything with the kids program that she didn't want to and we could do as much family stuff as we wanted. Except once we got here, my kid wanted to do everything with the kids camp and nothing with us. Other families said the same thing, which was awesome. They got a kid with high anxiety on a horse, taught her how to ride, got her on trail rides, and ended the trip with her barrel "racing". You can ride as much as you want, the fly fishing for trout is incredible, the streams are amazing. You can shoot skeet, they take you white water rafting, tons of games in the game room, pool, etc etc. The kids tie-dyed shirts, had their own chuck wagon cookout, and were always doing something fun. Some other review said it best - it's summer camp for the whole family. The highlight of the trip though is the staff - I mean you can offer horseback riding anywhere.... but if you don't have good staff then the kids won't have a good experience and won't want to do it. There is something magical in the water at Colorado Trails. Between the staff, activities, and food - somehow they took 8 families that were complete strangers and turned us into 1 big family (all within the first 24 hours). A massive thank you to everyone who makes this place so special - and a special thank you to Jeanne. 55 years on the ranch and there's no question that she's the heartbeat of the most magical place I've been to. read more

Everything Candis H said in her 7/2015 review is absolutely correct. We had a family reunion at the ranch with 3 families, 16 guests total and the week was amazing. We had kids aging in range from 9-21 and every one of them had a fabulous time and the adults as well. One of the reasons we chose this ranch is because of the wide variety of activities and that proved perfect for our group. The staff is absolutely amazing, they bend over backwards to welcome and take care of you while you are there. It is first class all the way. We had several in our group that had dietary restrictions for gluten and dairy, celiac etc. and my husband was amazed at the food they came up with and provided. He's been told many times that someone will take care of it or get it right and they rarely do. The ranch went above and beyond and got it right every time, my husband was thrilled to be able to enjoy such delicious food as the rest of us. The new log cabins are beautiful and dude ranch luxurious. We took a day long family fishing trip hiking to Spud Lake and then fishing with all the adults and kids. It was beautiful and we caught lots of fish with fly rods and a few of us that were casting. The guides help you the entire time doing their best to instruct and trying to help everyone catch fish. The staff is so flexible and well trained if you want to do something where you have a large group and might need more help then normal, then they send additional staff to help. They don't just drop you and leave you, they stay with you as needed to make sure your activity is successful. It was a trip we will all remember for the rest of our lives, we would recommend Colorado Trails to any and everyone who is looking for a dude ranch vacation! read more

Discovered the ranch in passing and drove through the property with my fiancé. We were in agreement this would be the perfect place for all of our guests to stay when coming out for our wedding next July. We were stunned by the grounds and were turning around to drop in to the office to talk to them about such reservations and were stopped by a woman waving us down in the road. She prompts us to roll down our window and we did so with smiles on our faces. "Can I help you with something?" before we could explain our interest we were interrupted - "This is private property." We attempted once more to explain... I stated, "I'm sorry, everything seemed public and we saw horse back riding from the roadside and came to see the grounds." She replies "Yes, those were guests. This is open to guests only. You should stop by the office before looking around." I told her with a smile "Well we are interested in being guests." My fiancé states we would like to have our guests stay there for our wedding. She replies "oh when are you planning on doing that?" Then proceeds to tell us we should have stopped at the office before driving through and how it is Sunday to Sunday stays for her "guests" and she cannot open it as a hotel during that time... but you never know" she says. She continually interrupts with how "protective" she is over the property. There was NO sign posted stating to not trespass or "check in at office before proceeding" Everything was incredibly welcoming besides her. We have NEVER been greeted more rude or disrespectfully and this is by a ranch that solicits itself to the public. We have a very large wedding coming into the area for an extended stay who would have loved the experience there. We wouldn't dare send our loved ones somewhere to be treated so poorly. Very disappointing. Would leave no stars if I was able. read more

Recently stayed here on a family vacation/reunion and first off let me just say a BIG OVERWHELMING THANK YOU to Miss Genie, Miss Jennifer, all the staff and all the wranglers for.... really everything. Everything was on point down to the minute details. Where to start..... The food! Note: Come Hungry! You will eat more food than you'll think you could ever stomach, but believe me you do! The food is so good and the days are so full of exciting experiences and activities you really will work up a hearty appetite. Meals have set times, so understand this is not a restaurant where you can show up whenever. You eat and mingle with other guests as well as the ranch hands, who, will fan out and sit with you at the table if space is available and ask you about your day, what you intend on doing the next, answer any questions, and possibly share a couple laughs. It is very familial. The trails: Whether you go horseback riding or hiking, the region and location of the ranch is absolutely stunning. I constantly found myself captivated by it, no matter which trail the wrangler took us on. The Bear Ridge trail had some particularly stunning views as well as when they take you over to the Rainbow Ranch property for some jaunting around in the meadows. You'll find that every clearing you come by has something to see. The cabins: The cabins are clean, furnished, and cozy. The beds we found to be comfortable and the showers had good water pressure and heated up quickly. Which is good because after a full day, all you will want is a nice hot shower! The cabin my family stayed in was one of the last down the road on which all the cabins reside. It's back porch was a perfect place to relax and read a book while looking out on the ranch and the mountains and taking in the fresh mountain air. If you come from a city like I do, you'll appreciate this immensely.... well once your body adjusts to being 7500 feet above sea level. Everyday the beds get made and the cabins are tidied up by the staff, and everyday there's a little something extra left in your cabin. One day it was a journal to record your memories and another was some tasty chocolates crafted by a local confectionery. The Staff: Everyone and I do mean everyone was so helpful, attentive, and engaging. The staff were always quick to make sure that you were enjoying yourself and do whatever they could to make accommodations where possible. An example of this was when my husband asked, granted in advance of us actually being on vacation, if it would be possible for them to make my father-in-law a cake for his 70th birthday. They happily obliged and the cake was delicious. My father-in-law was very moved by the gesture as well. Big thanks going out to the kitchen staff on that one! Truly. The wranglers were similarly amazing. They each had a good grasp of the layout of the land and if you ever wanted to take a route less traveled, were more than excited to go on the adventure with you. They were also very attentive to make sure you were upright on your horse (very important), that everyone was staying together, and that horse's saddle harnesses were firmly in place and how they were supposed to be. The level of professionalism they all exhibited is second to none. A quality I find to be more and more in rare supply. Finally, the Activities: From kiddos to adults there is something for everyone. If you are bored at this ranch, you'd have to be actively trying to not have a good time. Because there is SO MUCH to do! I don't know all the activities the kids did because I'm childless but I can tell you that my nephews' days were FULL! Two of them were barely able to stay awake during the night of Square Dancing!!! These are full days, with breaks in between activities. Obviously, it's a ranch so horseback riding is a given. But they have fly fishing trips twice a day. A full day trip, conducted and orchestrated by Miss Genie, to the ancient Pueblo people's ruin which is a must if you haven't been and even if you have this trip is still worth it. Miss Genie's husband, Don, grew up on the National park as his father was a ranger there and so they are both well versed and knowledgeable on the site. You'll find her tour informative, fascinating, fun, with still an heir of mystery behind the ruins. Want to know the mystery? I guess you'll have to go on the tour! HA! There's a rodeo night, a pool and hot tub for that one afternoon you need to rest, an adults only dinner night with drinks included where the kiddos camp out in a teepee, hiking, shooting, archery, square dancing, and of course there is the charming town of Durango close by which I would also recommend to visit to get some of that old world charm.
