Drew and Jase welcomed us warmly when we arrived. Our mounts were saddled and ready to go. We're riding novices in our 70's, and Zimmer and Dune suited us perfectly for the relaxed, easy trip we wanted. We hadn't paid for a private tour, but it was just the two of us that Drew escorted along the ranch's scenic trails, no one else in sight the entire way. The views of mountains and wide open plains were spectacular as we rode through stands of oak and aspen and across meadows, chatting companionably with Drew, who was charming. An experience so delightful, we've already booked a repeat ride for next week.

Especially those of us coming from the city he does a lot of it to give you the full experience, politics and all. After riding for longer than our allotted time, Roudy chatted with us in his cabin for at least another hour or two, he's a character who's lived quite the life and it's worth listening to. Highlights include some great story about politicians coming to Telluride and the many commercials etc that have been filmed on his ranch (who knows if they're all true but he can tell a story for sure). Now on to the actual horseback riding itself. Unlike other places where the horses are essentially preprogrammed and you as a rider or just there to sit, Roudy's horses are going to take you where you want (and my partner found out that if you don't encourage them they'll stop and do their own thing). All of this is to say it's worth the money, it's a great experience and a whole lot of fun if you let it be.

Horses were well loved and very gentle. Our 10-year old daughter thought this was the highlight of her Telluride trip. Here's the deal: don't be late (that is extremely rude and completely selfish) and don't be sensitive (get over it, people have different opinions in life - and that's what makes the world go round). Roudy and staff warn you plenty of times in advance not to be late, and in fact, tell you to be there 15 to 30 min early. Don't be the selfish people who hold up the rest of the ride, it is really embarrassing for you. It is actually sad to think that Roudy is the first person to point this out to you; let me be the second. :) The directions they provide on their website are perfect (don't follow your gps). Highly recommend! So much fun for the whole family. We would do it again!

We went to do the Via Ferrata and holy Molly was it challenging at parts. They say that you don't need experience to do this, to an extent I can agree. What you need is a whole lot of upper body strength and flexibility. Me being a fun sized gal, some of the steps (forgot the proper name) were too high to reach. Came to find out that one of the creators of this area is 6'7" (no wonder I couldn't reach them lol). Overall it was such a fantastic experience that made me use my mental and physical strength. Thank you Max for all the encouragement and help.

From the very beginning, Rex made the entire booking process effortless. He was incredibly knowledgeable, honest, genuine, and took the time to answer every question without ever making us feel pressured. You can tell he truly cares about giving people an unforgettable experience. Our guide, Cal, absolutely made the day. We laughed from start to finish, and his energy, confidence, and encouragement made all the difference. I'm not someone who naturally loves heights or considers myself much of a climber, but there wasn't a single moment where I wasn't having an amazing time. What impressed me most was how safe I felt the entire experience. It's wild to think you're hundreds of feet above the ground, yet the equipment, route design, and professionalism of the Basecamp team gave me complete confidence every step of the way. The Via Ferrata itself is a masterpiece. Whether you're a beginner looking for an exciting first adventure or someone wanting to challenge yourself on more difficult routes, Golden Mountain offers the perfect balance. Every section is thoughtfully designed, the scenery is breathtaking, and the entire experience is simply unforgettable. This was easily one of the highlights of my year, and I honestly can't recommend Basecamp enough. They exceeded every expectation from start to finish. The Golden Mountain Via Ferrata truly lives up to its name.
