We did a 2 hour ride and had a blast! They put each rider on a horse that was appropriate for their skill level. I highly recommend them!

Telluride Wranglers - Trail ride to Woods Lake

    Telluride Wranglers

We recently spent our summer vacation in Telluride. We decided that it would be fun to include a…read morehorseback riding excursion on one of the mornings. After reviewing several guided riding outfits, we chose Telluride Wranglers. They offered a few different riding locations and had several options for duration of ride. They also have some rides that include a meal offering. And even combine an overnight camp out with a ride as another option. The variety of options was appealing to us, however, the fact that the ride was private for just our group was the determining factor that sold us on Telluride Wranglers. We selected a 2 hour ride at the Woods Lake location. This is the farthest of the locations, but was a very beautiful and peaceful location. It is approximately a 45-50 min drive from the center of Downtown Telluride. And this particular drive does include a portion of the drive to the site on unpaved roads (sometimes smooth, sometimes a bit bumpy. Overall, we thought the beauty of the location justified the additional time to get there and the 12 - 15 minute unpaved portion of the journey. NOTE: make sure u allocate 45-50 min to get there or the length of your ride will be shortened by the amount u are late. We also had some confusion about exactly where we would meet our guide, the location that was indicated in the text had some horses tethered up but no guide. We were eventually directed a bit more down the road where guide and horses awaited. Our guide was Piper and she was great. Clearly an expert on horses and on navigating the trails. She made us both feel very comfortable. Offered lots of tidbits along the way about the flora and fauna, the horses, and the local area. She also snapped pictures of us along the way and airdropped them to us at the end. A very nice touch. In the entirety of the ride we only saw a couple of hikers and a couple people on the lake paddle boarding. It was incredible to be in such a gorgeous setting that was really peaceful and isolated.

Had a great time on the trail ride. Guides Piper and Devyn were super helpful and knowledgeable…read more The horses were well-trained and easy to ride

This is for a review pre-COVID, January '20. I will say this, Roudy is an acquired taste, but my…read morepartner and I absolutely loved it. Especially those of us coming from the city he does a lot of it to give you the full experience, politics and all. After riding for longer than our allotted time, Roudy chatted with us in his cabin for at least another hour or two, he's a character who's lived quite the life and it's worth listening to. Highlights include some great story about politicians coming to Telluride and the many commercials etc that have been filmed on his ranch (who knows if they're all true but he can tell a story for sure). Now on to the actual horseback riding itself. Unlike other places where the horses are essentially preprogrammed and you as a rider or just there to sit, Roudy's horses are going to take you where you want (and my partner found out that if you don't encourage them they'll stop and do their own thing). All of this is to say it's worth the money, it's a great experience and a whole lot of fun if you let it be.

Horses were well loved and very gentle. Our 10-year old daughter thought this was the highlight of her Telluride trip. Here's the deal: don't be late (that is extremely rude and completely selfish) and don't be sensitive (get over it, people have different opinions in life - and that's what makes the world go round). Roudy and staff warn you plenty of times in advance not to be late, and in fact, tell you to be there 15 to 30 min early. Don't be the selfish people who hold up the rest of the ride, it is really embarrassing for you. It is actually sad to think that Roudy is the first person to point this out to you; let me be the second. :) The directions they provide on their website are perfect (don't follow your gps). Highly recommend! So much fun for the whole family. We would do it again!
