We recently spent our summer vacation in Telluride. We decided that it would be fun to include a…read morehorseback riding excursion on one of the mornings. After reviewing several guided riding outfits, we chose Telluride Wranglers. They offered a few different riding locations and had several options for duration of ride. They also have some rides that include a meal offering. And even combine an overnight camp out with a ride as another option. The variety of options was appealing to us, however, the fact that the ride was private for just our group was the determining factor that sold us on Telluride Wranglers. We selected a 2 hour ride at the Woods Lake location. This is the farthest of the locations, but was a very beautiful and peaceful location. It is approximately a 45-50 min drive from the center of Downtown Telluride. And this particular drive does include a portion of the drive to the site on unpaved roads (sometimes smooth, sometimes a bit bumpy. Overall, we thought the beauty of the location justified the additional time to get there and the 12 - 15 minute unpaved portion of the journey. NOTE: make sure u allocate 45-50 min to get there or the length of your ride will be shortened by the amount u are late. We also had some confusion about exactly where we would meet our guide, the location that was indicated in the text had some horses tethered up but no guide. We were eventually directed a bit more down the road where guide and horses awaited. Our guide was Piper and she was great. Clearly an expert on horses and on navigating the trails. She made us both feel very comfortable. Offered lots of tidbits along the way about the flora and fauna, the horses, and the local area. She also snapped pictures of us along the way and airdropped them to us at the end. A very nice touch. In the entirety of the ride we only saw a couple of hikers and a couple people on the lake paddle boarding. It was incredible to be in such a gorgeous setting that was really peaceful and isolated.

He kindly bundled us up in layers of blankets, offered to take pictures on number of occasions both off and in the horses, took us around on the sleigh with a pleasant & informative conversations throughout. It was snowing and with a three year old who wasn't a very happy camper so I was sure how this will go but in a magical moment the leader foggier excitedly took off and her "kisses" started the horses, alas! She was a completely excited and extremely happy camper! My hubby and the munchkin got to ride in the front with the guide and "drive" too! I wish the tour was longer! I never wanted it to end! So magical and amazing experience AND it wasn't very expensive. $45 per adult and $35 per child was nothing for this unforgettable experience!!! He said they have a pony/goat/donkey... I don't rem what he said but some other ride my munchkin would be able to do in the spring/summer. I can't wa to go back to Durango for another magical vacation!! And to think I only stumbled upon this when I wa frantically trying to find a fun activity to replace the original plan of going tubing (found out it wasn't open on weekdays)... What a blessing in disguise!! Thank you!! We WILL be back!

She refused to give me money back, my niece didn't make it twenty yards on the horse. I politely told her I would like my money back and she said no. I then told her she hadn't discussed a cancellation policy with me. She does only accept cash, So I asked "what do you do when you have a no show? That's what is happening here" , and I would gladly take half of the money back for her work prepping the horses; but she refused that as well and said "we did all the work." She doesn't know how to run a business, and most definitely doesn't know how to cater to the customer. I recommend going with a Ouray horse back riding company, as we had a great experience with them. Or if you do move forward with this company, with kids... pay at the end of the ride or ask their cancellation fee, because this bitch will rob you.

Very reasonably priced and our admission gets us in and out of the park on the same day. I would recommend early morning or later afternoon when they are fed because we came a little too late in the morning and almost missed all the wildlife activity as they hunker down during the heat of the day. We did see the grizzly bear and the wolves, and for us it was worth it. We intended to come back around 2:45 for feeding and the guided tour, but we didn't make it. The staff were friendly and informative. I would highly recommend this wildlife sanctuary and support those that cannot be reintroduced to the wild for one reason or another.
