This is a terrific historic hotel in downtown Ouray , Colo. It is located right off the Main Street and is close to everything. We checked in late but were given detailed instructions on what to expect and how to access building / room. Our 2 bedroom corner room was lovely and I found the heated bathroom floor a delight. There is a basic breakfast room available with oatmeal, bagels, yogurt, juice and such. The stairs up to the second floor were challenging with a large suitcase but we were warned repeatedly in advance that there was no elevator. Great views from the bay window. read more

I never write reviews especially not poor ones... In the end I am just trying to avoid you a headache and disappointment. We stayed at the St. Elmo in late July and booked "Suite 11 with mountain views." Instead, we got what felt like a basement: exposed pipes, cobwebs, dirty floors, broken glass, a rusty heater, flimsy cupboards, and a coat rack with no hangers. Nowhere close to the photos or views advertised. After asking to be moved, we stayed in two other rooms. Neither was a suite, and one was tiny with a broken shower. At over $400 a night, this was far from the romantic getaway we expected. Breakfast? Reheated eggs, and microwaved burritos. Definitely not worth the price (check other reviews if you don't believe me). After the stay, I politely reached out for a partial refund and was turned away. When I disputed the charge (first time here as well), I received a call 20 days later from their "director of operations," followed 8 minutes later by a threatening message from Clay (likely the new owner) pretending to be an attorney making wild threats and sending outrageous messages. Rude, unprofessional, and completely out of line. The only positives: Room 11 is no longer available to rent. the cleaning staff were very sweet. Cute property, but poorly run and not worth the price. Stay clear. read more

From the time we checked in, to seeing our cute, clean, and updated room, to how peaceful and quiet it was, turned out to be a very pleasant experience. The lady at the front desk was very welcoming as we briefly chatted about where we were from, the stormy weather, etc. We stayed in the petite interior room and although small, it was laid out great. The bedroom was decent sized for our luggage and room to walk around. You stepped up to the bathroom and shower area which was pretty cool. We didn't really have a view, but the large window faced outside and we were able to open it to get some cool, fresh air. Overall, we would totally book again when in the area! read more

Friendly staff. Room was clean but very dated, not just antiques! Eclectic mix of odd furniture, uneven floor and no air conditioning. Great little town, though. read more

A charming spot in a charming town. They let us check in a touch early, which was appreciated. Also allowed us to be a touch nosey and look in unoccupied rooms. I'm perhaps biased but ours, room 12, is one of the best. Yes, it's right over the stairs, but it has an upgraded bathroom with a lovely, if small (just the right size) shower. Two windows, two small ceiling fans. A mini fridge, two chairs. Housekeeping is done by request only which is kind of a nice touch for those of us who aren't in need. Breakfast is simple: badges, English muffins, mini blueberry muffins, oatmeal packets, mini yogurts, fruit, coffee, & o.j. They do provide actual creamer for coffee, which was a relief! (I hate that powdered stuff) I may suggest adding hard boiled eggs to their mix for additional protein to fuel snowshoeing, ice climbing, hiking, etc. I would suggest blackout curtains for the rooms just to encourage better rest. But overall it is a great place to stay! read more

Make sure you check this hotel's ridiculously stringent cancellation policy before you book your room. I booked a room through their website at 5:20 pm on February 8th, 2023, with plans of arriving a few hours later, at 9 pm. Katie, the manager, called 5 minutes after making the reservation to inform me that she was leaving for the night and would be emailing me their late check-in procedure. About an hour later, at 6:35 pm, I called and emailed Katie to inform her we could not make it, due to car troubles. Throughout the course of the following week, I emailed twice and called four times; once getting ahold of the receptionist who promised a call back from Katie the following day (never happened) and the last of which I was finally able to talk with Katie. I explained the situation and she informed me that a reservation cannot be canceled within 7 days of the check-in date and because of this there was nothing she would do. I mentioned that I made the reservation just before she left for the day, so she couldn't have sold the room anyway (though I don't expect them to be at capacity on a Wednesday in early February), and I would have appreciated at least some communication in the last week. She cut me off without listening to reason, made no attempt to figure out another solution, and we ended the call with a very sour taste in my mouth. It's unfortunate that Hotel Ouray is more worried about making money off these types of situations rather than working with their customers and building a good reputation for customer service. I have worked in the service industry for many years and understand that dealing with the public can be stressful but, when I have a customer come to me with an issue and is cordial, I will always try to find a comfortable compromise. This hotel has no regard or sympathy for extenuating circumstances and should be avoided at all costs. Give your business instead to an accommodating hotel that understands logic, appreciates its patrons, and values potential future business. read more

Ideal for solo travelers on a budget, Hotel Ouray offers interior rooms with an attached bathroom. I stayed for two nights. and would return if I was by myself, but not with a partner. Exterior rooms are also available. The interior room was clean with a tiny bathroom that would have been larger if a hot water heater did not occupy 1/3 of the bathroom. No closet is provided. At check-in, I was advised that the hot water tank has a 40 gallon capacity, so if the flow rate is 2.5 gallons per minute, that means you have about 16 minutes of hot water - enough for one person's shower. At least between the interior rooms, the walls are paper thin, meaning that if you want to talk on the phone without disturbing others, you'll need to go somewhere else. There's no elevator, and all guest rooms are located on the second floor. Fine for ice climbers of course, but not ideal if you have mobility issues. The hotel is not staffed at night (after 9 PM), so if you get locked out, you'll need to call a number and wait for staff to sort it out. read more

What a great place to stay! We loved it here. Had the best room in the hotel. Direct view of Main Street. We were able to watch the parade, the water fight and the Jeep parade..... it was PERFECT ‼ We went out on the street for the Fireworks which were absolutely incredible. We had a 2 room suite a huge bathroom. The beds were super comfortable. The breakfast was fine, got the basics. The muffins were fresh and moist, coffee was good. The staff was over the top nice and accommodating. Would totally stay here again. read more

Hotel Ouray is a very nice smaller hotel on Ouray's main street. It is very conveniently located for Ouray's many attractions. Reception was very friendly and included a demonstration of the room and its features (including the transom window) and the breakfast room. It was very comfortable and included soaps and other products from the hotel's Powder Room brand. Breakfast was the usual for B & B hotels: oatmeal, bagels and breads, hard-boiled eggs, yogurts, coffee, and fruits. There is only one table in the breakfast room and it was occupied by people having a noisy meeting the morning that we were there, so we used trays to take breakfast back to our room. FYI, the hotel has no elevator and you need to put out the "please service room" sign in order to have your room cleaned and get fresh linens. We missed it because it was flipped around and not visible on the door handle! read more

I had a late check in and they emailed me very detailed instructions on how to get in my room which I appreciated. There was also a "Welcome Susan" sign in the door when I had arrived. The room was adorable. I had room 14 (which meant no fridge but they have ice available). It has enough space for two but it was just me so I was very comfortable. I had a view of the Ouray Brewery. The queen size bed was super comfy with a comforter and extra blanket. There was a TV in the corner and they also provide a fan and hair dryer. The room had two chairs in it along with a dresser. I really loved the bathroom which had a couple of steps to get through the door. I loved the fixtures and overall design. The shower was open without a door which felt less claustrophobic. There were towels galore, lotion, shampoo, conditioner and make up remover wipes. I would definitely stay here again. The staff was so nice and helpful and they just want you to have a pleasant stay. read more

An absolute GEM!!! Parking spaces for each guest room are right in front of the hotel which made taking our things inside quite easy. My husband and I were pleasantly greeted and checked-in by Ruthie, as if we were old friends. Ruthie walked us upstairs to the second floor where all the rooms are located. (Please note that there is no elevator and you must carry your bags up 22 carpeted stairs.) First, we were shown the room where guests are served a Continental breakfast and where 24/7 can be found: coffee, hot chocolate, tea, hot water, an ice machine, and a microwave. And, where the room key drop off is located. Next, Ruthie showed us to our charming room. Room #6 is an inside room with a transom and window to the hallway housing a queen size bed and chair. The sink and mirror is to the side of the bed. Behind a door, you find a toilet and a beautiful walk-in shower. The towels are lush and large. Small locally custom made soaps, makeup remover pads, and a separate black makeup towel can be found. The sheets and pillows are crisp and the mattress was extremely comfortable. Keep in mind that you can hear people speaking if the transom is open, although it was silent all through the night- serenity time is from 9:00 PM- 9:00 AM. We are early riser and went down the hall for something to eat before our hike. The coffee was hot and delicious. Items to choose ranged from a variety of muffins, hard boiled eggs, different flavors of yogurt, packets of different flavors of oatmeal, honey packets, apples, peanut butter packets, and orange juice. Something for everyone. We ate at the table in the room, while other guests came to gather their choices and either ate in their rooms, downstairs in the sitting area by the lobby, or ate in the go. Such a lovely stay and right in the middle of the quaint town of Ouray. We will definitely visit again soon. read more

Take a walk back in time when you enter Hotel Ouray. Victorian furniture and design including stairway. Fantastic room, great bed, clean bathroom, good period décor, helpful staff at the front desk and in the hallway even helping us with our luggage without expecting a tip. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. Walk out the front door and you are in the middle of main street. Easy walking anywhere in just a few minutes. Private parking right up front. Perfect. read more

This is the "Hotel Ouray" (might be different from the previous reviews "ouray hotel". We found this hotel and are delighted!! The booking process was easy - my mom gifted is the room and they had no problem working out the credit card. They are right in the center of town, within walking distance to everything (we're walking from Here this morning to do Box Canyon Falls). The property has been totally renovated, the hallway is beautiful, the rooms are simply decorated with antique furniture, and the bed is one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever slept in. It felt like home! Our room was a 2 room suite with 2 king size beds, and was not more pricey than the other rooms. We will definitely be using this hotel again, and recommending it to all of our friends!! read more

This hotel is really a treasure in Ouray. We were welcomed by Ruthie who checked us in, showed us our room and even helped us with our luggage. Ruthie was so friendly and treated us like family. The hotel is from a bygone era and this is most likely how guests were so well treated back then, which is how we were treated now. The hotel is old but is exceptionally clean and kept up nicely, with quaint and charming interior surroundings and well appointed, taking you back in time. Our room was clean and our bed was very comfortable. It is wonderfully located in the heart of Ouray amongst all the nice shops, and is reasonably priced. Being in Hotel Ouray is not just a night's stay, but more a memorable experience. If you stay here you will not be disappointed. When next in Ouray, we will definitely stay here again. I hasten to give this hotel 5 well deserved Stars. read more

Top notch, clean, staff very helpful, rooms tastefully remodeled. Right in the heart of town with free parking just outside the front door. Highly recommended but remember there is no elevator, 22 steps up to all rooms. read more

What a beautiful little hotel. We got a corner room with an incredible view of the mountains! The hotel was quiet even though it's right off of Main St. Everything was spotless and well cared for. We were so delighted when we arrived at the Hotel Ouray! Our drive up that mountain road from Durango was scary...even sleeting on us part of the way. So, needless to say, this charming hotel was just what we needed. The lady at the desk (so sorry I don't remember her name) was so welcoming and helpful; she even offered to help us take our things up to the room! She walked upstairs with us...and yes all the rooms are upstairs, but if we did so can you, and showed us to our lovely room. It was just delightful, and comforting with a great view of the sweet little town and the mountains. We walked across the street for a great dinner, and then crashed for a wonderful night's rest. The next morning we helped ourselves to warm muffins, hot coffee, and fresh fruit...just perfect. We've been traveling almost two weeks, and I can honestly say this was our very favorite hotel experience. Don't miss Hotel Ouray if you are anywhere close! read more

I booked our room after reading that the Hotel had been totally renovated. The last historical hotel we stayed at was disappointing. When we checked in, Patty the owner greeted us and showed us to a lovely, newly decorated king bedroom suite. The bed was so comfortable I quickly forgot the last few days of hard beds in hotels. There are quality duvets and sheets and excellent pillows. The bathroom was efficient and new. There was a refrigerator in the front room and nice flat screen tv's in both rooms. For breakfast there was fresh coffee, tea, juice, oatmeal, yogurt , muffins etc. We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Ouray and can't wait to return. read more

This is a nice little hotel. Dale is very nice to work with, and he haggles on some of the rooms. We went at the end of the peak season and he gave us a discount on our room. They are pretty well priced even without the discount. The only thing is that they didn't have handicapped entrances when we stayed. They have a staircase which is steep and long, which was a little hard to get all the baby gear up. Other than that, I will definitely look at staying here the next time we visit Ouray. This hotel is amazing! Tastefully and beautifully remodeled in a way that compliments the age of the hotel. The bathroom was amazing and the sheets and pillows 4 star hotel quality. I was so impressed, and such a reasonable rate. The staff (Katie) is wonderfully competent and helpful, a refreshing change. I was very sad to have to get up early to hit the road, instead of lingering luxuriously in that comfortable bed with quality, amazing linens and pillows. Highly recommend! read more

For me, there are no other options in town. I've stayed at Hotel Ouray 4 times so far, and will be back. As a pretty frequent traveler, and someone who is sort of picky about hotels, this one really impresses me. Here are a few high points: 1) The hotel is update nicely, especially considering it was built in 1893. The owners have done a really great job updating everything to make it feel up-to-date without losing its charm. 2) The hotel is centrally located and you can get to everything with a 5 minute walk. 3) The parking is more than adequate and once you are parked, you can get to everything easily. 4) Super friendly and helpful staff. They make recommendations in town and make you feel really welcome. 5) Comfortable rooms and beds. 6) Each room has satellite TV and wifi is available. (Not that you'll spend a ton of time in your room on either in Ouray). The ONLY con is that they don't allow kids under 10. This can also be a plus, depending on your situation. I recommend this hands down. Ouray is a really special place and Hotel Ouray fits that really well. My grandparents visited Ouray numerous times over the years, and my wife and I have now been 4 times ourselves. My family recommends this hotel when you visit. read more

Staff is friendly and competent. Owner Patty is very nice and was great talking to and asking lots of questions. They have even more plans to take hotel to an even higher level. It's also centrally located and a couple minutes from everything. Highly recommend. Yes there are stairs to get to the rooms but it is good exercise and part of the charm of this nice hotel.
