We stayed here while in town for the Ouray International Film Festival. What a treat! It's not fancy accommodations, it's old school charm at its best. The bed was comfortable, we enjoyed sitting in the grass courtyard in the morning as well as evenings enjoying our coffee or snacks. The hot pool opens at 6am and that is where we were every morning. It's hard to put into words, the way I feel about this place, but I'll try. We specifically booked this place because of the history. And the cabin in particular that is built upon Chief Ouray's hunting adobe. We absolutely loved the cabin. It was private and primative, but had everything we needed. And to learn that it was built in 1902 was even better. It does have a comfy bedroom, it is not a studio. And a kitchenette with a fridge and a stove, a microwave and mostly fully stocked. A decent shower and lots of heaters with a wood burning stove. We would stay here again in a second. It was neat waking up to the wild turkeys and driving up and down the hill in the ice. The jeep made it really easy. We also booked the sunroom and while I do love staying in the lodge, because of its convenience, we much prefer the cabin. The sun room is almost all windows, and it is literally built on top of the vapor cave with the rock coming through one wall. It's very cozy too, and has a king bed. That part is great! There is no kitchenette in here though, but the front desk clerk was kind enough to help us with some items we needed to make some sandwiches. I'll tell you the most difficult part is this: The entitlement of folks who have no concept of respect. Whether it be berating the staff or talking loudly and obnoxiously while soaking. If someone doesn't know hot springs etiquette, they should learn. It's a place of retreat, rest and relaxation. It's also a sacred native site. It deserves respect. Don't come here if you're looking to be loud and obnoxious. You don't know how many times I watched people walk away from soaking, because of idle drunk gossipy talk... The times where we have been mostly alone, are just epic and I'm truly grateful for that. It has been one of the best weeks just becoming one with nature and the earth, honoring the sacred. I just LOVED our stay at Wiesbaden!  My wife, three year old, and I planned a summer getaway in Ouray, and I switched our reservation from a fancier venue last minute on a hunch, and boy, am I glad we did! So a few things to keep in mind...  This is not the Waldorf.  It's not perfect, but that's just fine.  We needed two rooms so that our little fella could be put to bed ahead of us undisturbed.  That mostly happened, except for the night when a bear just outside our room made a ruckus rifling through the neighbors construction bin. The hot spring and vapor caves are amazing, and included with your stay, so don't miss those.  The pool is like hot tub hot, so not appropriate for smaller kids.  They will be disappointed, because it is super inviting looking.   The courtyard in the middle makes a tranquil and relaxing spot after a long dat of hiking or exploring.  Generally, we just loved everything about this place! read more

We scheduled a private soak at this hot spring and we're excited for our visit. We had something come up and needed to reschedule and Louise was extremely rude and unprofessional. She allowed us to reschedule but then made sure to tell us to "make sure to show up this time" otherwise she would charge us the full amount. Man oh man. If you want to spend hours on hours meditating, the is the place to be. Going between the super hot natural vapor caves, dipping into that steaming pool inside the caves, and to the less hot, but still steamy hot springs is just unlike anything else. I'd say I definitely got all the toxins out of me, but at the same time this place brought me a peace of mind unlike any other. I found it extremely easy to get lost in meditating both in the caves and in the springs. I came during a great time, because there were many times it was just me in the caves or springs. Even when there were other people everyone was extremely friendly and respectful. Make sure you bring water! And fill up at their fill up stations! They had lockers, changing rooms, bathrooms, and anything you could possibly need. Also the views are totally breathtaking! This place brought on an extremely deep healing for me. For $20 a head, Old Man Wiesbaden will let you in to use his facilities for three hours. Plus, as a challenge here, if you can stay deep inside his vapor cave for your entire three hour visit, he'll offer you some nice, cool drinking water for free! read more

THE BED... need i say more. I felt like I was sleeping on a cloud. We didn't go to the outside pool as it was always full, HOWEVER the private pool was the best. In a word: shopworn. I wouldn't call it run-down, but I'd guess it hasn't had a major redo in at least 30 years. It is clean, though. The management is not too helpful. They are appear to be a group of elderly ladies who really would rather be doing something else. Maybe things were different 30 years ago. The highlight of this place and what may be unique around here is the "steam cave." It is really cool, meaning it is really hot, and it has actual, growing cave formations. Give it three stars. We had a good stay, but probably won't return if it remains in its current condition. read more

I would have given this hot springs and vapor cave 5 stars if their facility wasn't so dated and in need of some repairs. Other than that, our visit was perfect. The Wiesbaden is very small and a much more private experience compared to that of the much larger Olympic sized pool hot springs in town that can have 100s of people squeezed in at times. If you want to enjoy the hot springs of Ouray in a more quiet setting with only maybe 10 people max at a time, this place will be the perfect place for you. We went back and forth from dipping in the hot springs and then back into the vapor cave a few times and found it relaxing, healing and a lovely experience. read more

This place has vapor caves! As a 4th generation Colorado native, I should know all about these but I didn't... until today. This place is not crawling with visitors and they limit how many non guests of the hotel can be in the hot springs. We called ahead and found out that we had picked a good time frame to go. (3pm on Memorial Day) As others have noted, the place is dated and seemingly run by strict grandmothers, get past it. The vapor cave is a three part room. Step behind the door and be transported. Hang out on the step and just breathe. If it was socially acceptable, I'd want to do yoga in here! Let your eyes adjust to the darkness and gradually move to the 3rd room where the super hot pool is. From the start: it was slightly difficult to get a reservation. I called twice and, on both occasions, spoke with two different people who indicated that they would call me right back but never did. This wasn't a big deal because I'm persistent and on the third try, I got ahold of someone who was able to check the dates, take my credit card information, and successfully reserve a room for me. We stayed here on a weekday in the off-season and upon arrival, we were greeted by a helpful front desk staff person, who showed us to our room, and gave us information about the hot springs & vapor caves. Our room was tidy, with a private bathroom and a comfortable bed. The hotel reminded me of a bed and breakfast (without the breakfast) but it couldn't have been more private, relaxing, or serene. The vapor cave is underneath the hotel and I've really never experienced anything like it before. There is also an outdoor swimming pool at the front of the property which is heated by the hot springs. Access to the vapor cave and outdoor pool are included for all hotel guests, and people who aren't staying at the Wiesbaden can access them by purchasing a day pass. In addition, there is a private hot spring at the back of the property which is locked and fenced off from the rest of the grounds, is available for a per hour fee, and is called the Lorelei. We decided to reserve this for an hour in the evening and it was lovely to sit in the hot spring, see the outline of the mountains just in the distance, and look up at the stars at night. All in all, I'd definitely recommend a stay at the Wiesbaden if you're looking for a quiet, relaxing and romantic getaway. read more

Unique vapor cave feature isn't for everyone. Can be thrilling at first walking through the heavy, wooden door into a cave with a gentle waterfall misting down the natural, rock wall, then through the carved rock arch into the main, tiny vapor cave lair. But, if multiple people are talking, the echo will destroy your peaceful enjoyment of the spot. If that's not an issue, the wicked-hot pool water will overwhelm you pretty quickly. The locker rooms are quite cramped. It's basically a unisex changing room (10'x10' maybe) with open cubby shelves. Up to you to trust the other guests. Better off just leaving valuables in youe car. And, guys, please leave your foul-smelling shoes outside. There are nice showers and private massages available in vapor cave side rooms. There is a very picturesque outdoor, heated pool too. It's not as hot as the cave pool, but it's plenty warm in winter. You may even choose to get out, throw snow on yourself or partner, then dip back under for the Scandinavian treatment. The outdoor pool has a nice wrap-around deck with tables and lounge chairs and pretty decent views of the canyon walls surrounding downtown. This is by no means a hot springs experience like that offered down the road, but it's quaint, reasonably priced and satisfying. You won't get the creepers you'll sometimes suffer through at Orvis. And you don't get multiple pools or expansive grounds to roam or explore. This facility is pretty dated and pretty limited, but it's a unique spot to experience a hot-pool cave and a break from the ordinary. Plus, it's close to downtown, the church and the brewery. I've never been in a vapor cave before, so I HAD to check it out. Not disappointed! I love caves, love Carlsbad caverns and this was a very mini version of that. It was an adventure walking towards the door, not knowing what was on the other side. Then you get in there and wow! Such a neat place! Then go even further in and there is the hot springs pool - even more adventure! I don't want to spoil it for you, check it out for yourself. My boyfriend and I toured southwest Colorado searching out all the hot springs we could find, so we couldn't miss this one. I highly recommend it! I'd give it five stars except for just one tiny thing. After bathing in the VERY HOT spring pool behind the vapor cave, we wanted some beverages. Didn't see a water fountain anywhere, but there were bevs for sale in a fridge. My boyfriend wanted coffee, but that was only available to hotel guests. So I had to go out to our camper van and retrieve drinks from our cooler. Not a big deal, but generally in other hot springs places a water fountain is somewhere around so you can get a sip of cool water during your hot bath. The price was fine for two people, $40, that's middle of the road around there, so we had no problem with that. Lovely garden area, clean swimming pool area, friendly guests and staff, we had a great time. Would definitely go back again. We did not stay in any hotel room so I cannot comment on that part at all. We just came for a few hours to enjoy the hot springs and pool, and it was absolutely lovely. read more

With this being my fourth hot springs experience, I'm starting to see how varied they all are and I'm honing in on what I like. Wiesbaden was pretty close! It's a cozy little hotel - not quite as luxurious as the website suggests, but hey - everyone wants to be photographed from their best side, right? There's a mini swimming pool outside, heated to about 104 when I was there. It's well-kept, clean, and has smooth side benches to sit and soak from. You get a lovely view from the pool of the snowy mountains (in February anyway) and a quaint old stone church bell really sets the scene. It's relatively quiet and secluded, though it's only 2-3 blocks off of Main St. You can rent towels and bathing suits if you need for a couple dollars. In the off-season a day pass is $12 for the day, and I think in the summer it's $15. That's pretty standard as pricing goes. That includes the main pool and the vapor cave. There's a private pool that costs more, but I didn't get to grab a look. Now on to the vapor cave. It's actually behind a vault door off of the shower area. Interesting!! It's stone uneven floor (authentic!) and basically is a cave accessible through the spa and they pump good HOT water in there. It's enclosed by two doors so you get a steam experience even if the water's too hot for you. It's pretty cool! I'd say this is what set the experience aside from the others. Overall, really cool hot springs! I'm still waiting for the time I get to sit in a natural, authentic non-man-made spring bubbling up from the very ground I sit on... but until I choose to backpack in, I think this may be as close as I get to that feeling! So, your choice in Ouray is to do the main Ouray Springs - you see it from the main road and it looks like an amusement park - or, if you're looking for a more relaxing secluded quiet adult experience (I don't say adult to mean clothing optional though) then definitely do Wiesbaden! PS - people looked suuuper relaxed after their in-house massages too! read more

2 nights at the Wiesbaden was a wonderful relaxing start to our honeymoon! Guests have access to 3 hot springs- a hot springs pool, a vapor cave and a private outdoor pool. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. It's just a cool little place! They have an Aveda spa on site and we both scheduled a massage. They don't offer 'his and hers' but were kind enough to move both tables into a very cool room next to the vapor cave to accommodate us. Nice massage with good customer service. Room was clean but basic, it would have been nice to have shower gel and we had to buy Aveda shampoo from the lobby as there wasn't any in our room. The coolest pool is 104 degrees F so don't expect to be in there too long! read more

I was lucky enough to spend a day and then and evening at the Wiesbaden on the 19th and 20th of October. My girlfriend, who had spent a couple of weeks in Ouray working over the summer, and wanted to take me there not only for the relaxation,. I enjoyed my soak so much that we returned and stayed the night. The vapor cave, which is far more humid than a standard sauna, was incredibly relaxing. The temperature ranges between 108 and 110 degrees. The pool outside, which was excellent on a crisp fall day, is between 98 and 103 degrees (F), provides a nice contrast to the cave and a nice place to relax. They've put a lot of work and thought into this place and it shows. It isn't chic and fancy, and it is not meant to be. It's very homey, with each room being decorated individually. I loved the place. Beautiful setting, Very serene. I will be back. Thank you to the staff! read more

If you are serious about your natural hot springs, then this is a must visit. It's worth springing for the hotel room for the extra access and the credibility it gives you with the owner, who is very protective of her property, springs and vapor cave. This is truly a unique and special place, sacred to the mountain Utes. Yes, it's funky and dated, the decor is chintzy and looks like it was decorated by your great-grandmother. Who cares. You get to experience the sweet hot water that pours from the earth, the sonorous vapor caves, the private pool (clothing optional) with the waterfall cascading into the rock lined cove. We went here twice! The staff is friendly and services superb. My husband and I enjoyed soaking in the hot pool and going into the vapor cave at 108 degrees. We both had massages which were fantastic. I had the Aveda herbal wrap for de-toxing and it was wonderful. Think I lost several pounds and felt great afterwards. Great place and is worth the $$$. We stayed at the "Big House" in October 2021 and it was disappointing. The good: A nice spacious house with a great deck and many features. Our group of 7 was perfectly comfortable there. Relatively clean and relatively well equipped. The bad: There was evidence of neglect everywhere and the house has seen better days. Dead bugs on the carpet the moment we opened the door, bags with dirty laundry from a previous group on the basement steps that was still there 2 days later when we moved out, wall paper ripped off the walls in many places. Really annoying was that the dishwasher did not work and apparently has not worked in very long time. The sign on it looked like it has been there for quite a while. Upon mentioning this to Wendy at the Front Desk, she confirmed that is has been broken for a while but fixing it dishwasher is "not a priority" for management (yes, she actually said that). COVID something something. Same with the jets in the bathtub. Broken for a long time, sign has been u for a long time and "not a priority". Again, COVID something something. There were possibly more broken lightbulbs than functional ones in the various lights. Dishes were hit and miss: There were 2 teaspoons and 3 tablespoons for our group of 7 so we had to ask for more utensils which arrived hours later. Gas at the grill was out and they did not have any spares, it took about 24 hours to get a new one. Again, disappointing in light of what The Wiesbaden used to be once upon a time. read more

Ok, this place is cool but way overpriced for what you get. I paid over $160.00 for one night in a room that was the size of a large closet...with a bathroom attached. My honey and I had never stayed there and the rude lady at the desk checked us in and sent us on our way. She asked if we had ever been, we said no...that was the end of it. She didn't show us or tell us anything about the vapor cave or the springs. The next day the lady was different at the desk. She was very kind and apologized for the other ladies lack of customer service. She allowed us time in the private spring, which was delightful. The cave is cool and I will go back. I will not however stay at this place...Go elsewhere and save some money and frustration. read more

We have stayed here many times and this is by far the worst. We come to the Wiesbaden for the peacefulness and tranquillity. There was none of that this time. On their website it specifically says NO PETS in caps yet the desk clerk has two little dogs that barked all afternoon. There is a group partying in the cottage on the hill and they have taken over the pool. I suppose money talks and fills the rooms regardless of the owners "standards". The cabins were perfect for what it is and I have never visited a hot springs in California with tv or wifi - so that was a major plus! The vapor cave is a must experience as well. Amazing experience! I never felt so relaxed. The outside hotspring is wonderful. Quiet and Serene. The private hot spring, Lorelei, was perfect. It is so pretty. I want one for my back yard. Haha. You have to reserve a hour slot in advance which I do not think the website really explained very well. The front desk did not offer it to us either when we arrived, so that was a bummer. We happend to get lucky and got a 45 mins slot on our last night. It was great though. My hubby and I were not fans of the vapor cave. It was brutal. The water felt great but the heat in the cave made it hard for me to breath. I am not a big sauna person though, so it might just be me. The room we were in was nice. Clean and stylish. The mountains were out our back window. Awesome! The floors creaked like a old maid though. Ooh it was hard to endure. All together though it was an wonderful place! Worth it! Will go back! Wow! If you haven't been here, it's a must!!! The underground cave is amazing and natural. The outdoor pool is natural spring and the atmosphere of this place is peaceful and surreal. Not really a kid place although in sure they are welcome. It's defiantly a peaceful retreat, set back from the Main Street although within short walking distance to the Main Street. Great food and drinking establishments BUT they close so early. That's good for you to have time to hang out at the pool and cave. I am going with 5 stars because this establishment provides their guests with a perfect Ouray- Mountain experience. The motel is not fancy in a glittery way but pretty and well maintained. It all fits perfectly with the mountain setting. The owner and staff are friendly and so helpful. The hot spring experience (caves!) Is like none other and the outdoor pool is a great place to replenish after the underground hot springs. Do check out this gem in a land of precious minerals. read more

The Weisbaden has a strict NO PET POLICY, which appealed to my husband and me because of health issues. Imagine our dismay when, shortly after we arrived, a dog showed up on the property and was free to roam the premises for the day, then stayed in the room next to us. We didn't mention anything because we were not yet sick, and didn't want to embarrass the pet owner, who appeared to be a manager of some sort with the Weisbaden. Plus, though we get ill, we like pets, and even have a few that are hypoallergenic. We tried to find another room in town, but the town was booked for fall colors. After leaving, I emailed the management about my concern, since by then, we were both experiencing the effects of being in the presence of the dog. At first I was told we would be compensated for our discomfort, and was later told that because I didn't "speak up" no compensation would be forthcoming. Nothing like blaming the victim!
