We did the 2-hour Bridal Veil Falls tour with Grant ("G"), and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip to Telluride. Grant was an incredible guide. He was knowledgeable, funny, patient, and especially great with our kids, which made the whole experience enjoyable for our entire group, from our young children all the way to my parents. The tour took us to Bridal Veil Falls, the tallest waterfall in Colorado, and then to an incredible overlook with one of the most breathtaking views of Telluride. We never would have experienced these places the same way on our own. Riding in the restored 1970s Austrian military 6x6 Pinzgauer was an adventure all by itself. The truck handled the terrain unbelievably well, and the ride struck the perfect balance of excitement without ever feeling unsafe. It was just enough adrenaline for the kids while still being comfortable for my parents. If you're visiting Telluride, I can't recommend Dave's Mountain Tours enough. It was fun, scenic, family-friendly, and absolutely worth it. Ask for Grant if you can!! read more

We brought our good friends from Washington State to the wonderful San Juan mountains of Colorado for a week of fall leaf-peeping and photography. Of course, it couldn't have been a proper visit without a 4WD excursion into the mountains. Dave did not disappoint! Our party of 4 spent a half day with Dave and traveled up Imogene Pass up to the top. The weather and scenery were spectacular and Dave provided us with a great afternoon. Dave is a great driver, safe and secure, and really knows his stuff about the history, geography and geology of the Telluride area. We all had a wonderful afternoon with Dave and I highly, highly recommend Dave's Mountain Tours. read more

Dave our very capable, brave driver and guide drove us up Ophir Pass which we would never have done ourselves. He was also patient and kind as my husband wanted to stay a while longer to take the photos. Dave was always thinking ahead of the sights we would like to photograph and explained the history and significance of parts of Telluride. I would highly recommend his driving tours. Hope to see you again next Fall, Dave. Kind regards, May and Chester read more

This was a GREAT add on to our Telluride Trip. Much more accessible way to catch all the views in Telluride if a long hike isn't an option for you. It is still a rough ride, and climbing into the car isn't the easiest, so keep that in mind. Driving up the switchbacks is quite nerve-wracking, come prepared and with a sense of adventure. Our tour guide was hilarious and very knowledgeable about the history of the landscape. They stop periodically and let you get out to walk around and take photos. I believe we saw the peak of the waterfalls, tail-end of snow melt season. Not sure what they look like at other times of the year! Telluride is beautiful even not during ski-season! I absolutely recommend a June trip to this cute town. read more

Definitely book a Jeep trip with Dave's Mountain Tours when you're in Telluride. We took the 4-hour trip to Imogene Pass with Jason as our driver, historian, and guide. His years of experience as a raft guide, snowmobile guide, and now Jeep guide and business owner/operator are evident as he capably navigates the trail while describing interesting sights and facts along the way. His humor will put you at ease, and his tales of things he's seen over the years will make you feel like friends. There are stops along the way at Tomboy Mine, and two stops at Imogene Pass to stretch your legs and take photos of the San Juan Mountains and your group photos. Great for viewing aspens in the fall, too, along the first part of the trail out of Telluride. . read more

We had the four hour tour up Imogene pass that was absolutely amazing. Curtis was our guide and he brought along his dog Crosby. Curtis was incredibly friendly, personable, and informative. He was pointed out unique animals, flowers and other fun facts about the trail. Saw other tours going by packed with folks in a covered Jeep. We were the only four in an open roof car, which was super nice. Would be happy to return and would recommend to friends. read more

Curtis was our guide and he was amazing! Super friendly and funny. He did a great job navigating the mountains and pointing out the different things on the mountain. You'll also get to hang with his awesome doggo Crosby! Would highly recommend over any other jeep tours. (We passed by other jeep tours and they really packed people into the cars. We had the whole car to ourselves!) Their website was not the prettiest but don't let that discourage you from booking with them! They truly care about your experience. I haven't read anyone else's reviews here so as not to color THIS review. We took a sunset drive up to the power plant, with excellent views of Bridal Vail Falls. We were not able to take our dog, but that's ok because someone didn't have to keep an eye on him and thus not miss any of the spectacular beauty. We got lucky and had no one else join our group, so we could sit wherever, whenever, without encroaching on anyone's personal space as we flopped around on the trail. And everyone should understand these are not easy rides up and back, lots of being tossed to and fro. The trails are rugged in many places. Folks with back and neck issues should avoid these excursions. Maybe there are smoother vehicles making this trip- Jeeps, pickups, etc... I can't say as I haven't done any of them. But that was not an option. I like and want the experience of the guided tour in the Pinzgauer. Guided Jeep trips from Telluride are not available, although one can rent a Jeep any day and the driver gets to miss everything except the 10' of trail in front of him. And a pickup truck? That's not my style. We ended up with the smallest Pinzgauer, named Liesl after one of the proprietors daughters. She cheerfully answered all our questions and took our reservation on the phone. While the trip was shorter than Tomboy, there is still plenty of rough patches. However I felt this smaller 4 wheel Pinz rode better than the larger 6 wheel we were in last year with another vendor. There are so many variables though, 4 vs 6 wheel, shorter wheelbase, my seating position, less weight with four souls on board vs 5 and a dog last year. Different trail. Shorter trip. All that makes comparison difficult. I mention all this because I would hate for anyone who had physical issues to hurt themselves, and some folks simply don't have the disposition for a trip like this. They might be happier shopping or basking in the sun with a book and a coffee while those who seek adventure go for it. Our tour guide Emma was a great driver, a fun personality and shared some interesting stories of the area I had not heard before. I would not hesitate to go with her again. I believe she has been living in the area 7 years, so she knows things. Overall I can find no fault with this trip, and I'm left with lots of fun memories. read more

A fun, exciting, Jeep ride through a beautiful mountain country side. Cheeseball was the best guide ever! Pro ice climber/shark hunter and part-time chef from MI, according to his LinkedIn. "The Old Man Gramps" 6x6 vehicle was a beast. Jason took great care of us. we had a great time on the tour. We would absolutely do it again!

Thoroughly enjoyed the excision to Bridal Veil Falls. Dave was great - very entertaining and knowledgeable. Well worth the money!

I feel that it is my responsibility to share what happened on our tour of Imogene pass a couple weeks ago. We stopped at one point and the driver exited the truck. Suddenly the truck was rolling backwards with everyone except the driver in it. The driver attempted to stop the truck with his own strength and by kicking rocks under the wheels but was unable to, and the truck picked up speed as it headed backwards toward the drop off. Luckily we were on a relatively less steep part of the pass and were able to jump out of the truck within thirty seconds and it eventually stopped when it hit a large rock in its path. If we had been on a narrower or steeper part of the pass, we would have all plunged over the edge. It was absolutely terrifying, and the driver's excuse was that the parking brake on this vehicle doesn't work, which made all of us lose faith in our safety on a dangerous mountain pass road. I believe that this could be the first time this has happened, but the point is that nothing like this should ever happen on a mountain pass tour, and nothing like this would ever happen if you were to choose a different company that doesn't use trucks from the 1980s. When I called to report the incident, the person I spoke to was indifferent to our issue and simply explained that they'd "heard another story" and did not apologize, offer a refund, or attempt to learn any more about the experience. When my husband told him we were all still shaken from the experience, his response was "What, from the truck rolling back a couple of feet?" Obviously the driver did not tell him the true story, as the truck rolled back for probably 40 yards and picked up speed--vastly different considering this was on a steep mountain pass without guardrails. My husband and I are young adventurers who live in Telluride--we are not strangers to thrilling mountain experiences, but this was not that and we feel lucky to have avoided disaster. My father-in-law was so terrified he had a panic attack and had to lie down as soon as we returned to safety. The rest of the tour went by without a hitch, and without this experience it would have been a nice tour, but we were all panicked at the thought of what almost happened and even the driver was pale and nervous for the rest of the ride. Before embarking on a trip up into a steep, narrow mountain pass you should know that the truck taking you there has a working parking brake and that the manager will care for your safety. I urge you to book elsewhere where your safety is less in question. A few days later I spoke to someone who had recently been on a tour with this company when the truck broke down at the top of the pass. Apparently the driver told them that the new owner "hasn't made enough money yet to maintain the trucks." I just wanted to present you with this information before booking with Dave's, as even the small chance that you are at risk on a mountain pass and the owner is indifferent to your safety is too much of a chance to take when there are other companies that use new vehicles. read more
