Our instructor and driver, Skye, picked us up at our hotel at 8am. This was in October, so it's quite cool in the morning (high 30's) so dress appropriately in layers as you ride in the back of the jeep in the open air. Skye took us through the town of Telluride and up the county road to Imogene Pass. It's a road the miners used back in the early 1900's so expect a bumpy ride on the one lane road up the Pass. Skye stopped at various points throughout the trip explaining the mining history and the various mining properties along the way (Smugglers; TomBoy; Pandora; etc.) The views are spectacular and Skye's insight was impeccable. We learned a lot along the way. We were unable to make it to the top that day due to ice on the higher elevation roads, but we made it up 12,500 feet for an incredible adventure and outstanding views. Final note - be sure to dress in layers as it gets warmer as you drive toward the top (in the Fall) and than colder at the top. As you come back down Imogene Pass it will again be warmer so you will want to adjust your layers accordingly.

He was knowledgeable, funny, patient, and especially great with our kids, which made the whole experience enjoyable for our entire group, from our young children all the way to my parents. The tour took us to Bridal Veil Falls, the tallest waterfall in Colorado, and then to an incredible overlook with one of the most breathtaking views of Telluride. We never would have experienced these places the same way on our own. Riding in the restored 1970s Austrian military 6x6 Pinzgauer was an adventure all by itself. The truck handled the terrain unbelievably well, and the ride struck the perfect balance of excitement without ever feeling unsafe. It was just enough adrenaline for the kids while still being comfortable for my parents. If you're visiting Telluride, I can't recommend Dave's Mountain Tours enough. It was fun, scenic, family-friendly, and absolutely worth it. Ask for Grant if you can!!

Awesome source for rental jeeps in Ouray…read more Pickup was night before. Some delay due to prep time but Jeep was spotless. The super friendly manager Paul provided several maps and highlighted his suggested routes. He was spot on and we had a great day. Unlike other outfits they rented us the Rubicon Extreme which had bigger tires and all the bells and whistles. (Model came out to compete with Bronco) Jeep was very capable and the return was painless. As Paul promised, as soon as we pulled in to refuel the Jeep he gave us car wash tokens for the onsite wash. A quick hose down, once over by Paul, and we were done. Highly recommended. We will use them again.

The Jeep was basically brand new and loaded. Drove the trails over the mountains to Telluride. If checking it out was easy checking it back in even easier. Thank you to Jeep Ouray and a big shout out to Skylar.

The waterfall was a lot bigger than I thought it would be. It was super loud inside of the canon which made it all the more exciting. Check out both the lower and upper box canon falls trails. The lower falls trail gets very close to the waterfall, we were getting wet from the spray we were so close. The upper trail has a great view of Ouray and a fun bridge to cross that leads into a tunnel. It is $7 for each adult, but super seniors, military, and children under 4 are free! No dogs allowed in the park. I don't think the dogs would want to come anyway with the metal bridges and aggressively loud waterfall. If you are in Ouray in the summertime this needs to be on your itinerary!

The lower trail is easy for all levels, it has stable footing and minimal…read moreelevation changes, yet still offers beautiful views of the creek, and waterfalls along steel walkways and short trail. There are also stairs to near bottom of the waterfall. The high bridge trail is much more challenging, although one can opt to only climb the stair portion for a better view of Ouray and a little cardio. At the top of the stairs there is a small shelter, if you're feeling the altitude at this point it's a good idea not to continue further, as the trail continues to climb and there are no stairs/structure. There is a cable above the trail in sections for stability, and cables below some sections for safety. I'd guess the top of the stairs is a little less than half way to the high bridge. The bridge is a very sturdy structure, over a steep narrow gorge, the views of Box Cañon, the creek, waterfall, and town below are breathtaking. There is a hallway-like tunnel on the far side of the bridge, which is part of the perimeter trail. It's low in some spots but walkable, and offers some shade and cooling after the climb. The trail was drub when we went, it would be significantly more challenging/difficult with any moisture or icy conditions.

Bridal Veil Falls is absolutely worth the hike and was one of our favorite stops in Telluride. I'd…read morerate the trail as moderate. There aren't any ladders or technical sections, just a steady uphill climb that becomes a bit steeper after the second waterfall. We hiked it with our Labrador, Luna, and she had no trouble at all. Along the way, you'll pass two smaller waterfalls before reaching the main Bridal Veil Falls, which makes for great places to stop, take photos, catch your breath, and enjoy the scenery. The trail is about 2.5 miles round trip. It took us longer than average because we stopped often to take in the views, but it was well worth the time. There is also a decent amount of shade from the trees, which makes the hike more enjoyable on warmer days. It's a popular trail, so while it never felt crowded, there were people hiking up and down throughout the day. That made it feel safe without taking away from the experience. If hiking isn't your thing or you're short on time, you can also drive to the top with a high-clearance 4WD vehicle to see the waterfall without making the hike. Overall, this is a must-do if you're visiting Telluride. Beautiful scenery, dog-friendly, and one of the most rewarding hikes in the area.
