uphill the whole way. But doable. We added on the Wasatch trail. Which was so hard. And the views were amazing.

Bridal Veil Falls trail - Hiking down (6/16/23)

Bridal Veil Falls trail

Bridal Veil Falls is absolutely worth the hike and was one of our favorite stops in Telluride. I'd…read morerate the trail as moderate. There aren't any ladders or technical sections, just a steady uphill climb that becomes a bit steeper after the second waterfall. We hiked it with our Labrador, Luna, and she had no trouble at all. Along the way, you'll pass two smaller waterfalls before reaching the main Bridal Veil Falls, which makes for great places to stop, take photos, catch your breath, and enjoy the scenery. The trail is about 2.5 miles round trip. It took us longer than average because we stopped often to take in the views, but it was well worth the time. There is also a decent amount of shade from the trees, which makes the hike more enjoyable on warmer days. It's a popular trail, so while it never felt crowded, there were people hiking up and down throughout the day. That made it feel safe without taking away from the experience. If hiking isn't your thing or you're short on time, you can also drive to the top with a high-clearance 4WD vehicle to see the waterfall without making the hike. Overall, this is a must-do if you're visiting Telluride. Beautiful scenery, dog-friendly, and one of the most rewarding hikes in the area.

I highly recommend this trail for anyone looking for a scenic adventure that's not overly difficult but still feels like a great accomplishment!!!

Our instructor and driver, Skye, picked us up at our hotel at 8am. This was in October, so it's quite cool in the morning (high 30's) so dress appropriately in layers as you ride in the back of the jeep in the open air. Skye took us through the town of Telluride and up the county road to Imogene Pass. It's a road the miners used back in the early 1900's so expect a bumpy ride on the one lane road up the Pass. Skye stopped at various points throughout the trip explaining the mining history and the various mining properties along the way (Smugglers; TomBoy; Pandora; etc.) The views are spectacular and Skye's insight was impeccable. We learned a lot along the way. We were unable to make it to the top that day due to ice on the higher elevation roads, but we made it up 12,500 feet for an incredible adventure and outstanding views. Final note - be sure to dress in layers as it gets warmer as you drive toward the top (in the Fall) and than colder at the top. As you come back down Imogene Pass it will again be warmer so you will want to adjust your layers accordingly.

They changed our reservation really easily, refund at the difference, and even helped us strap the kayak to the roof of our car. We had a great time and they were really helpful! We walked down the main drag of Telluride, which is what most people will do. The shops, the…read morerestaurants, and all the touristy fun mountain town things. It was fun--though during COVID, much trickier and less shopper/diner accommodating than it surely must be otherwise--and we were nearing the end. As we saw the last block of buildings appear, I felt a great desire to suddenly be in a park. I felt it so strongly that I said out loud, "Oh, you know what would be great here? If there was a big ol' park at the end of town." Well, like some kind of parks prophet, we walked past the last buildings and saw a river, and then what appeared to be groomed grass way on the other side. A minute more of walking and we saw the sign: Town Park. Giddy, we popped over the river and to the parking lot, and found exactly what we wanted: a HUGE city park, complete with picnic tables, sports courts, a stage/amphitheatre, BBQ grills, a fishing pond, restrooms, and lots and lots of trees for shade. But the greatest thing it has is fresh mountain air and those views. THOSE VIEWS! We hadn't planned on finding the park, so we had to go all the way back and get the car on the other end of town, but we rolled the dice and drove right to the parking lot, and two cars were leaving as we pulled in. We parked at the heart of the park, got out, found a grove of trees, and did what anyone should do on vacation: hammocking. We hung our hammocks, laid in them, read, talked, laughed, napped, and let the afternoon air wash over us. We left the heat below us, and at 8K+ feet, it was perfect weather. The soundtrack of people laughing, playing frisbee, and a couple of dudes "rescuing" fish out of the now-drained fishing pond and releasing them into the main river; that was our music in the background. We came to discover this park has so much more, including a campground that looks to be pretty nice, if not a little crowded and packed in. There are playgrounds, a pool (though I'm not sure if it's open to the public or just locals, and certainly not sure about that during COVID), pickleball, tennis, volleyball, basketball, skate park, and during the winter, sledding and ice skating. Look, Telluride can be a spendy town. And it's a fun town. A destination. But for us, there was some real magic in discovering this incredible park, setting up a hammock, and just being in the mountains on a lazy afternoon.

I want to start by saying this is the only park in the town and it offers tons of amenities. Pool,…read moremultiple jungle gym/playgrounds, soccer field, river to fish, baseball fields and tons of areas to hang out and relax while enjoying the beautiful scenery. The reason for our visit was a baseball tournament and sadly we were quite disappointed by the fields. For being such an expensive and historic town, the fields were amongst the poorest we have seen. There is no actual fence to specify the outfield (on one field), no dugout for the players (it's a park bench) with no covering, infield is all dirt and the backstop is maybe 5 feet from home plate. The park itself is beautiful and has plenty to do and offer other than baseball fields.

My wife had heard that Mild to Wild rafting took great care of their clients. Last year at this time, we were wading up the San Miguel river / stream and fly fishing. Shallow water, tranquil pools and great fishing made it a different weekend. When we booked this, I thought it must be a mistake as this stream did not seem strong enough for rafting and narrow in width. What a difference a year makes. The river was full, fierce with heavy water and good class 3 rapids for the next 1 1/2 hour. Big rocks, fast water, big snags and quick currents were the norm today. One had better stay in the boat, as it would troublesome swimming in 42 degree water. Alyssia, our guide was fabulous and serious about following her instructions. She navigated the rocks, snags and fast water. She maneuvered our boat well. For the next 1 1/2 hours, we had 3-4 foot swells and worked the entire trip. We have rafted many rivers and this was one of our shorter trips but a 5/5 on adventure. For a great adventure, beautiful scenery and a gorgeous day, raft with Mild to Wild. You will have a fun filled and adventurous memory for life.

It was our groups first time ever on Snow Shoes. We had our daughter and husband, her husband's parents and us. Needless to say, we were a bit apprehensive since there were 4 of us 60+ years of age and two 30 year olds. John and Tara were our guides. It was a cold and snowy day. They took us up to the tree line and zig and zag back and forth. If you are not use to the altitude be prepared to "suck some air". Make sure you plan to arrive a couple of days early before you try this activity so you can acclimatize yourself to the altitude. At the half-way point, we took a rest and they supplied hot chocolate. John did an avalanche test and demonstrated what they look at to report back to the authorities. This was very informative and just good to be sitting and resting. On the return trip we had lots of snow. This was so pretty and peaceful. If you have never snowshoe, make sure you try it and definitely with someone who knows what to do, where to go and get you out of a pickle when you lose your shoes/poles.
