Back patio ambiance was wonderful. They did not anticipate so many people for Fairport Music Festival. Food came out hot and delicious. It took quite a bit longer than usual. We went to Faircraft Brauhaus on a spur of the moment chilly Friday evening at 7:30 pm. Parking was impossible, so we ended up parking 1/4 mile away in another parking lot. There was some pleasant live music going on as we entered, and we were seated relatively quickly after we got in - it wasn't over capacity. We ordered a flight of beers to try an assortment - they weren't anything special. I enjoy stouts the most, and Sweet Conversations fell extremely flat: 1/5. The other beers slightly made up for it, likely averaging 2.5/5 if not taking the stout into account. We ordered a Bretzel as an appetizer, waited 25 minutes for it to be served, only to receive it slightly burnt. I have no idea what was going on with the mustard - we didn't even try it. It looked like whole grain mustard that was dried? The beer cheese sauce was oddly the savior of the dish. The beer flavor was strong, and it was thin which is a personal preference of beer cheese for me. For entrees we ordered the pepperoni pizza and smash burger; this also took around 25-30 minutes. The pizzas are likely the safest thing on the menu to order, as there's some indication they're made fresh. The hot honey drizzle they added is unnecessary; it just makes the tomato sauce taste sweet. As for the smash burger: this one was just confusing. The patty looked like it was made 15-30 minutes ago, with the cheese also congealed indicating its lack of freshness. Was it possibly sitting in a warming drawer in the back? Possibly. I upgraded to the crispy potato salad, which looks like it is griddled, but it tastes uncomfortably cold. Stay away. At least they used a potato bun. The servers were nice throughout service, so kudos to the staff taking care of customers. The kitchen is where the concern lies for visiting Faircraft Brauhaus. Overall I'd rate it a 2.25 / 5.00. Really really disappointed with our time here. We ordered pretzels to start, idk about your experience with a good German pretzel but they tend to be decently sharable, this was the smallest pretzel I've ever gotten at a restaurant. And you have to pay extra for cheese. It comes with mustard but if you want cheese there's no way to swap, you just have to add it. We were disappointed that the burger comes with chips and not fries...for the price, the portions felt way too small. We were a table of five and all of us were underwhelmed with everything, drinks, appetizer, meal. The atmosphere was quieter than the options next to it. There was a sports game happening and omg there was no way you could even fit at the other places and definitely couldn't talk, so at least it was decently calm inside. read more

This is a great place for German style beer. I am particularly impressed with the Hefeweizen but I have genuinely like almost every beer I've tried there. The food...not so much. And that is really a bummer because I love German food, but much of it falls completely flat here. The pork schnitzel comes out as this inch thick slab, which, because it hasn't been pounded, is tough. The spaetzle is to days drive past the characteristic al dente chewiness one should get. Rather it just dissolves. Seriously heart breakingly bad. And Matt, I appreciate the offer, but I am don't need you to make it good by me. Pleasantly surprised with the food and drink at Faircraft Brauhaus. We wanted to take our baby for a stroll and thought the Fairport Canal would be a convenient location. Unfortunately, we didn't know that a lot of the regular restaurants are closed Sunday. The good thing is that there are still a lot of good Sunday options in Fairport and we decided on Faircraft Brauhaus after walking by their spacious patio. It was great sampling their large beer selection through the beer flights - 4 x 5 oz samples. My favorites were their "Devil's Treasure" Hefeweizen and their "Juiceful" New England IPA. My wife like their Cream Ale. Foodwise, we loved their pretzels with beer cheese. Their were nicely salted and the beer cheese and just the right amount of tang, I enjoyed my bratwurst with spaetzle. The sausage was topped with grilled onions and peppers. Overall a great spot serving German-inspired food (which I feel is hard to get in Rochester). Braufhaus is definitely kid friendly during the day, with attentive service and spacious seating. I'll be back. read more

I've never been to Germany, but with a local German brewery and restaurant this close, what would even be the point of going to Germany? I haven't tried a beer here that I didn't enjoy and love the food with all my heart. I usually throw potato salad in the garbage, but if you get it heated up on the flat top, it's a culinary miracle. Highly recommend that mushroom gravy jawn as well. If you're planning a trip to Germany, I would recommend canceling it now and just come here. You'll have a better time and save a lot of money. read more

Fantastic location. Plenty of parking and seating for large groups here. Personally felt the menu was very limited for such a large place. However, it was great to be able to sit outside and have a laid back couple hours with friends and family. The pretzel was good. The small meat and cheese plate- you can tell they are made ahead of time and stacked on top of each other. Take a look at the photo- you can see the indents of what must have been another plate sitting on top of it. Had an opportunity to stop in here to attend a corporate event. The ambience and aesthetics are pretty standard. The people working were friendly enough. The other patrons in the place seemed stuck up and snooty. The food was okay. The Flammkuchen (fancy name for flatbread pizza) looked pretty good. Took one bite and realized it had onions, gross. Looked closer, and all 3 varieties they offer had nasty onions on them. Blech. Not sure what their onion obsession is. The charcuterie board was pretty standard. Friendly service, variety of beers, could use an upgraded menu (which would likely attract more customers.) My fiancé and I are Fairport Locals. We've visited Faircraft 3 times, and I think it will be a while before we go back- as we both were equally disappointed with our visit tonight. Visit one- okay, nothing special, nothing to deter us from coming back either; just lacked excitement with our meal / atmosphere. Visit 2- redemption. I ordered the Caesar salad, but instead of chicken, requested schnitzel as the protein. The kitchen made it happen, and I was a happy customer. The greens were dressed beautifully, it was a really well done, large-portioned salad with a warm, breaded pork cutlet. The bartender and chef for the night tried it themselves. In my opinion, the salad should've been offered with schnitzel versus chicken breast anyways, for a German spin at a German faire establishment. I left excited to come back for another round of this salad. Visit 3- ready to order the "schnitzel Caesar," they were out of schnitzel, at the German restaurant. My fiance wants to order a flatbread, they're out of ALL of the flat breads also. At this point, we had already ordered drinks and a charcuterie board. Had we known that both of our chosen entrees weren't available ahead of time, we would've stuck to our appetizer and drinks, and moved on. I called it- my salad with the +$4 chicken protein charge had COLD (cooked, refrigerated, not-freshly grilled) dry, minimal SCRAPS of chicken. I can't emphasize SCRAPS enough. The salad was still deliciously dressed, but about half the portion size as before- with the same price. My fiancé's entree was an appetizer portion as well, but the flavor was enjoyed. Our bill came to $105 with tip. We're accustomed to bills equal or greater than, however we both felt it was a waste, and a shame, at that. Great place! Really big inside with space for live music, huge bar, outdoor patio, and lots of tables. I had an event here and Amy was great to work with as well as the rest of the staff. Flatbreads and pretzels are really good! I've been back a few times since our event and each time have had a great experience with nice waiters and good food & beer. Parking can be tough in the cannery, especially around dinner time. I find it best to park in a nearby public lot and walk to Faircraft. read more

Food just not good. Order two house salads and a cheese plate. Our Guests were first time diners. We were there just for the music. But the waitress says to us "it's going to be a while we are very busy". This was at 7 pm. Food is 45 mins later (recall 2 house salads and a cheese and bread plate. Sad really. I ate at this place when it first opened and they had a limited menu. And my conclusion the. was "never again". Well. 3-4 years later. I can say "never again". What a let down. Go for beer only. Sehr gut!! Danke. We finally ventured out to try the Faircraft Brauhaus, which we were sad not to attend the opening for. They offer a great variety of beers, all very good. You should, of course, go with a friend and both try a flight. Don't forget a pretzel!! My husband says the bratwurst was great, and it certainly looked authentic. For non-pork eaters, they do have a few cheese based options, the pretzels, and a very good version of German Mac & Cheese (Kaesespaetzle). I hope they introduce a chicken schnitzel soon, for another protein option, but for the most part their food focuses on apps rather than entrees. Do not go expecting this to be a pub with tvs and sports fans. Instead, you'll find a very local vibe, including local artist displays and enough room for live music eventually. The service is a little slow, as the other reviewer pointed out, but they are operating at limited capacity and (I think) very in line with how most restaurants are functioning during these times. The food is good and seemingly authentic. The beer is great. Cindy was fabulous to us, and the other servers were friendly. The people watching was wonderful AND, they have a great dog friendly patio. Not much more we could ask for! Beer selection rotates and is posted inside above the bar. They also offer flights for +/- $10 depending on which 4 pours you select. Plates are small plates, not really sized for sharing, but you can make them into a meal if you try. This was the perfect spot to get together with friends on a Sunday afternoon. Prices are okay, but not a great value... Beer seems priced fairly, but the food maybe needs to chill out a little? Friday night after work I joined old colleagues . I had no idea this gem was located in Fairport! Their wine list was great as I am not a beer drinker but based on what friends were drinking their beer is very good as well! I'm not much of a beer drinker, but I enjoy live music and german food so I thought I would give it a try. The "Occasional Saints " were playing and the music was exceptional. This is a band I will follow! The food, however, was lack luster. Definitely not authentic german food. The over-use of vinegar and lack of spices made my selections really disappointing. If you advertise german food, you must have an excellent bratwurst. The skinny, dry, hot dog like sausage was not what I was expecting. Tucked away by the canal among other restaurants and restaurants, fair craft brauhaus transports you away from Rochester NY. There is outdoor and indoor seating including at the bar. They had a variety of German beers and most notably, my boyfriend got a blonde stout which was interesting because of its blonde coloration but stout flavor. I ordered the pretzel which was warm and rips away easily, with a traditional mustard which was to die for. My boyfriend got a platter with a variety of cheese, bread and meats. The specialty cheese with delicious but tastes very strongly of garlic, so be aware. It was a casual atmosphere, catering to a low key evening. read more

Service is very SLOW (15 minutes for a beer, 30 minutes for microwaved pretzels), at 5 PM on a Saturday afternoon. 6 bartenders, 2 servers, disorganized and haphazard. People who arrived after us were served before us, and people who arrived before us were served after us. Beer was OK, food looked like microwaved frozen food from a bag. Manager told us they are understaffed and still trying to figure things out, but didn't offer to compensate us for the disaster of an experience. After we talked with manager, server then tried to charge us for items we didn't get, telling us that she's a great server, "busting her ass" (she was chatting with a co-worker while our beers sat there), and "my manager doesn't f***ing care about your feedback, and we f***ing don't care what you say about us." Sounds like they still have a lot to figure out. Not worth a return trip. read more

A few decades back (yes, I am an old guy- get over it!) I had three extended visits to Germany (3-7 months each) so, it was Germany that really taught me to love beer. (stateside back then, it was all giant, tasteless, macro-brews. And, even more unbelievable, is that home-brewing was illegal!) Oh how I love the beer-changes the US has seen during my life. Back to Germany, the beers were so wonderful and flavorful. I remember coming home and desperately seeking out imported German beers. Now, all I have to do is drive over to Fairport for a great fresh kolsch, or helles or ___ (insert your favorite German style here) Their flights are 4 x 5oz pours and with 12 beers on the menu (ok 11 beers and one sour) it takes just three flights and you get to taste them all! That kind of tasting is much more fun with friends! I have visited twice, and my only tiny complaint is that on our second visit the Iron Hearth; a Rauchbier (that's German for 'Smoke Beer') seemed to be many times more smoky than our first visit. I was so smoky that I couldn't finish it. The food is great! Expect what you may find in a good German beer garden, not a full dinner menu, but sausages, and pretzels and what we US citizens may call appetizers. The only German Beer Hall treat they didn't have available, that I learned to love in Germany taught me, was fresh radishes to eat with the beer! Although we sat inside, they kept the doors to the outside patio open which allowed yellow jackets to enter the interior. Food is good and the beers are fantastic. However, never go when there is a live band. My husband and my ears are still hurting and ringing this morning. We initially were seated right by the band. When they started we realized there was no way we could hear what our friends were saying so we move to the back of the room. And it was still pretty loud. After awhile the band turned the speakers up even more so it was just like sitting next to the stage again. You want to go enjoy your friends, good beer, and food. Updated review for May 2021: As I had both hoped and expected, this place has only gotten better as COVID restrictions have eased and they've been allowed to expand their offerings. As with most places, you've got your choice of cozying up to the bar or grabbing a table inside (or out, weather pending). Our server was attentive without being overbearing, fast, and accurate. The pretzel is not the kind of comically large sharing-size one that a lot of local restaurants all source from the same vendor, but is a house-honed recipe that is made from scratch on site. The obatzda plate is a perfect snack or appetizer, and I've yet to have a meat dish that I didn't like. The beer is only getting better as the recipes get fine-tuned. If you've never had an Altbier before, you owe it to yourself to try Old Sinner. Kassel Kolsch is the perfect light and refreshing option for the warmer weather we've been experiencing lately. And if you can't decide on just one or two options, they do offer flights from their menu of 10-12 offerings. Most places try to do far too much, and the result is an overzealous menu of things that are decent, but not great. The approach Faircraft has taken has allowed them to really perfect their offerings. This place is co-owned by a German immigrant who wanted to present an establishment that reminds him of home, and having spent a decent amount of time in Germany myself, I think I can say that he's hit the nail on the head. They're the rare one-of-a-kind business in this area. ------------------------------------------------ Original review from June 2020: Opening in the middle of a pandemic has got to be incredibly hard work, but these guys are pulling it off.  The restaurant / bar portion are still closed due to the current circumstances, but they're offering their full tap list in growlers and crowlers.  I've tried several of them so far - the helles, English porter, and NEIPA - and all three were top-notch.  None of the beer has that distinct "you can tell this is a new brewery" sort of off-flavor to them.  This is clearly not one of those breweries where some young guy with no experience and a bunch of money went "I bet it would be cool to be a brewer".  This is beer made by someone who really knows what they're doing, and run by people who are extremely passionate about the art of brewing. I'm eager to see them continue to produce new recipes, as well as expand into a full brewpub experience as conditions allow.  I've never really been a "regular" someplace, but I think this place might change that. read more
