Factory Builder Stores ("FBS") used to be a reputable one-stop "high-end" appliance store for purchase, delivery, and installation. Today, I'm not sure who they are. Please find another store, rather than wasting your time and money and getting frustrated. Our JennAir downdraft range was purchased from and installed by FBS. So, when we needed a replacement, we went back to FBS to receive their professional guidance, as downdraft is a unique design. They recommended another JennAir downdraft range, and advised of 3-week delivery. A few days later, FBS performed a pre-installation inspection to identify any possible issues. Since no issues were identified, we proceeded with the order. Ultimately, it became crystal clear that FBS's pre-installation inspection was a total failure, making us question about the authenticity of the FBS inspection. In fact, all connections (i.e., electric, gas, and floor ductwork) needed to be relocated, as well as trim-cutting the granite countertop for the new range. If these issues were identified at the inspection, I could cancel the order. So, they took away that option. If the FBS sales associates/inspectors were properly trained and familiar with the appliance they sell, they should be aware of the design change of JennAir blower, and replacement issues that people are noticing. Moreover, if they took a few minutes to pull and compare the information of the old and new range, they would realize these changes and potential issues. Instead, FBS associates are instructed to find ways to avoid taking responsibility. Without properly assessing and grasping the whole picture, they were sending me reactive and piecemeal instructions. Because of that, I needed to call, first, an electrician, then a plumber, and various other contractors, staying home to accommodate their visits, and coordinating and dealing with piecemeal work activities. It was havoc. After waiting 3.5 weeks for delivery, it took another 4 weeks to have the new range installed, and we still have a few repairs to deal with from this mess. As we enjoy cooking and hosting gatherings with friends, it was truly a frustrating situation for my wife and I. Once again, FBS is not the organization that some of us remember. Their understanding of the appliance seems so shallow and limited, making us question about their training programs. More importantly, their approach to resolve issues and their own mistakes is so ingenuine and unprofessional, perhaps reflecting current management attitude. Looking at recent reviews posted below, my experience is not unique. Please stay away from FBS. read more

Working with Ross at FBS was a stress free and great experience. We purchased a range, drawer dishwasher and a Zephyr vent hood from them during our kitchen remodel. Very happy with the performance of the appliances. Ross was helpful during the selection and ordering process. The team there worked with us when the appliances arrived but our project wasn't ready to receive them. Communication with sales and reception was clear and responsive. Let me start off by saying initially during the fancy showroom walkdown and appliance selection process, that FBS was accommodating and friendly. We purchased GE Cafe appliances in April 2021. We purchased them 5 months ahead of time, knowing that because of the pandemic that there was a chance for delay. The purchasing and selection process went by without much of a problem - although I had to be VERY specific about the model numbers and accessories - as these people are not very detail oriented - In essence I did all the legwork, research, and selection - and they keyed it into their system. We know that 75% of our appliances arrived from the manufacturer months ago, and were being stored in their warehouses. They seem to have ZERO quality inspection process when items arrive - in other words they sit in boxes. As part of our nearly $13k order, they had included a line called "1 LT installation FEE of $445.00". There was no more clarification on this item - although one might assume that it was a fee to professionally install the items. At the time of delivery - scheduled for early August 2021 - We found out upon delivery that the refrigerator and dishwasher had been damaged in the original transport from the distributors to FBS. Both items were rejected - and FBS indicated that both were on backorder with a nearly 1-2 month delay. In addition the other items were delivered and left in their giant boxes (no installation provided). There was no recourse provided by FBS - just a simple - oh I'm sorry here's your new delivery date. Incorrect handles / accessories were sent, we have a missing burner cover, and in all of this, they have provided no resolutions. They had no idea what was sent, in my emails - providing the SKU#'s their only responses are well - we ordered it....I've had better conversations with 3 year olds. We have opened up an email string with their management - and now they refuse to return the $445 installation fee - saying that they performed work on our site. We have since cancelled the 2 items from them and already procured and delivered them from Home Depot (never thought i'd thank GOD for Home Depot's customer service). Now they are dragging their feet in providing our refund, and are claiming that the installation fee won't be returned in full. This is a nightmare - a company that doesn't care about its customers - doesn't have any quality process - and ultimately - doesn't own up to its mistakes. Go to Best Buy or Home Depot - you'll get your appliances in half the time - with double the quality. Save your money - all the glitz and glamour of the showroom - won't buy you a better product. Pricing is not that good, sales people know their stuff. Phone service is decent. Billing is extremely ridiculous, thousands of dollars worth of mistakes, filing illegal liens against properties and poor communication between installers, sales and billing. The sales team here is great. They are nice people and knowledgeable about their products but that's the only positive thing about this place. The products they deliver to your house are almost always guaranteed to be dented, scratched or not in functioning condition even though you buy/pay for it new. Additionally, they contract out to different delivery people so you don't deal with them when it comes to delivery. You get a random call day of delivery, are told a time for delivery and then it'll be hours past the time before they deliver. We were promised a 3PM delivery, the guys showed up at 8PM. We called them several times to get updates and every time they said, two more hours. A 5 hour window for installation is not acceptable. Delivering a dented product is not acceptable. Not following up with the delivery people on the orders you took money for and sold is not acceptable. This is our second poor experience with this place. If I ever needed another appliance, I would go to Best Buy. This place is not worth the hassle. Save your money and time folks! read more

I sure wish I had paid more attention to the 2013 review. I thought that might have been a one-off, but unfortunately I was mistaken. We ordered a Bosch dishwasher for a good price. But the problem came on the installation. They arrived with the dishwasher already out of the box, which was a red flag. Then the two folks who were to install it didn't know how to turn the water off to the dishwasher. They said the valve was broken, that it would not turn off. Now, I know nothing about plumbing, but I was able to turn it off when they were gone, no problem. Their incompetence was mind blowing. A call to the supervisor fell on deaf ears. We had to return the whole order. I was able to get the same dishwasher, cheaper, at AppliancesConnection and will get it installed by a plumber. I would avoid this place like the plague. read more

Purchased a slide in range from this store. Their price was higher than other stores in town, but they said they would deliver in 4-5 days. 4-5 days later, I got a call saying it would be another week. That was followed with a second call saying it would be another week. I received a call on a Friday saying it would be delivered on Monday. On Monday, they called and said Tuesday. I called Tuesday morning to confirm the time. They confirmed the delivery schedule. I got a call a few hous later saying my range was being delivered to someone else. They even told me he had ordered his after mine but tere was nothing they could do about it. They told me it would be another week. I cancelled the order. Do not do business with this company. I cannot say enough good things about my on-line purchasing experience with Rodney Christiansen who works for FBS in Houston. He provided requested product recommendations, detailed product information, and availability dates for special order products. He went out of his way to address my inquiries and concerns including contacting the manufacturer for product information omitted from the company website and offering to meet me at the manufacturer's Houston showroom for a personal view of the products. Also, he contacted the manufacturer regarding bundle purchasing and rebates. Moreover, he personally contacted the manufacturer's delivery department when my construction project was delayed to ensure the manufacturer would hold my products and he personally scheduled timely delivery of my products with the FBS warehouse on short notice once my contractors needed them. The excellent service did not end with the sale. He provided requested contact information for the manufacturer and its regional distributor for parts and accessories not available from the manufacturer's on-line store which enabled me to obtain the additional refrigerator drawer dividers that I needed.
