My hair has been in its natural health state from my big chop seven years ago. I rarely let anyone put their hands in my hair to the point I can count on one hand. I found Maggie on Instagram and after seeing her work decided to take the risk. I went in for a silk press and LOVED IT! She is a bit heavy handed burning me a few places but honey I tell you I sat through it because the silk press lasted so long and my hair reverted right back without damage. I referred a ton of clients to her along with my mother. My mom went in and by the time she came out to the car to call me on FaceTime it poof right back up. I screen shot it and sent the photo to Maggie. She never responded to the photo. I went in once again for a silk press and was surprised she brought up the photo that I sent of my mom EVEN THOUGH she never responded. Fast forward ... I trust her, im ready for my keratin treatment. I go into the shop and she's extremely over booked. The keratin was placed on my head as she did other clients. Her lovely assistant then blow dries my hair then sits me to the side while I wait for the press. I should've noticed something wasn't right because normally my hair is bone straight after the blow dry. She finishes me up and I'm in love as usual. The next day I go out in the town for my birthday and my hair was extremely poofy, more than normal. The next day it's as hard as hay! I messaged her and she said I could add oil to put moisturize back into it and wrap it. I did, it was soft but when I woke up in the am to wear it out it's hard as hay again and literally falling out when I run my fingers through it. I sent pictures and she asked me to come in for a deep conditioner. After the treatment my hair was soft BUT as it dries before your eyes I tell her (as I run my fingers though my hair) how it isn't normal. She becomes defensive which makes me make a confused face (I'm guessing) because she says, " I'm sorry I'm not being defensive but I don't know what to tell you". I'm literally holding my breath to hold in my tears. I realized a few things at that moment. 1. I should've noticed the signs 2. Not all stylist care about natural healthy hair 3. Not everyone accepts feedback 4. Never get a keratin again I sent her more photos of the handfuls of hair that I had and asked for a refund. She never responded as usual then blocks me on her social media profile. My bank was kind enough to refund me so I'm partially feeling better. My hair was my crown now I'm waiting to see if my hair will even manage to become what it was before the keratin treatment. Update: my hair was put in a protective style for three weeks to give it a break. Hair was falling out as i took my braids out. I'll attach a picture Update 8/20: my hair is continuing to fall out. Quick story time: I moved to Houston abruptly back in 2018. When I started my job, I had a classy red concoction that I was told I had to change after a few days (I never even interacted with customers ). Thankfully as soon as I found out I was transferring my job, I was on Instagram vigorously looking at Houston salons and came across this GEM. SHE IS AN ANGEL YALL! I told her the story and we switched to a pretty plum that we thought would suffice but turns out, I had to change it AGAIN! She let me come back and she darkened my hair and didn't even charge me . I went dark then she transitioned me to a honey brown after giving my hair a short break (view pics below of my transformation). All of that with NO damage. Your beautician could NEVA! That was the beginning of me becoming a FAB girl. Margaret is as sweet as pie and you will sense her genuine spirit upon your first interaction. Her personality is one of a kind and her blow outs are unmatched, period! Visiting her salon is always a relaxing experience and I always look forward to attending my appointments. Between the empowering girl talks and laughs, she makes it pretty hard for anyone else to top her salon experience. I used to travel over a hour to my appointments until she moved to her current location which is a lot closer to me. In that time, I tried ONE other stylist because she was conveniently closer and my hair was puffy in 3 days. Talk about pissed! I vowed from that time to never go anywhere else. You get what you pay for plus more with Marg. I have thick natural hair and my hair stays flawlessly straight until it gets product build up (my fault) and loses body. I don't like flat hair so I wash it, however, it lasts about 2 weeks...IN HOUSTON HEAT! She uses a steaming method that hydrates your hair and prevents damage. I'm not sure if it's my straightening technique or if her blow outs have lasting affects cause my hair always comes out flawlessly even after a couple of washes. That's what you call quality! If I could give zero stars I would. This "stylist" is terrible and had a HORRIBLE attitude. She is NOT skilled in maintaining and styling long, thick, natural hair. She was very rough with my hair (pulling, tugging) while it was wet and had bleach throughout it. When I asked her to be gentle with my hair, she told me not to yell at her. I told her I would not have had a reaction had she been gentle with my natural hair. Before I left the salon, she told me that there are stylists who get violent when they get yelled at. I politely let her know that I can get violent towards anyone who wants to be violent towards me for having an opinion about the mishandling of my hair...I really hope she clearly understood me as she should not be so quick to mistake a beautiful, professional, elegant, kind-spirited woman in heels with "soft." I have no regrets with letting her know what she was doing wrong and I'd do it again... Please avoid this place if you have long, thick, healthy natural hair. She washed my hair and left a tea tree shampoo on for 20 minutes before applying bleach on my wet hair. She over-cleanses the hair and will add conditioner then turn around and wash it out with shampoo right before proceeding to styling. I showed her pictures of the Bayalage colors I wanted and that is not what I ended up with-which is a one-toned color all over. She is UNSKILLED!!! Additionally, she attempted to leave most of the front of my hair uncolored claiming that it was "brittle." While some pieces of the front of my hair were shorter than the rest of my hair due to wearing braids prior to getting my hair colored, the hair was broken, not "brittle." Another excuse she had sex for not coloring all of my hair is because of my darker complexion skin tone. Mag is darker in complexion than me and actually said this...go figure. Furthermore, I've had blonde hair multiple times in the past. The inspiration pictures I showed her for the Bayalage showed two Black women with my skin tone that had blonde hair and this is the excuse she used! She charged me an additional $40 to have the rest of my hair colored when I explicitly stated I wanted all of my hair colored and showed pictures of how I wanted it colored (the pictures clearly show an all over Bayalage with no hair left uncolored). Mag is just lazy and uninterested in the maintenance or management of healthy hair. She's very sloppy and unprofessional and misinformed. Her communication skills (prior to appointment) are also subpar and her clients are not the ones who have waist-length, natural healthy hair. Not to mention, I spent nearly 9 hours of my day "getting my hair colored." No skilled stylist would overbook clients on a day she is doing a full color treatment on a new client. She is money-hungry and inattentive. Furthermore, she is known to delete honest reviews which is why I'm leaving my review on Yelp. BEWARE! read more

I love Margret! Always a good vibe in here! Even the other clients are friendly. A hidden gem in the heights for sure..especially for us kinky hair girls..although I've seen a wide range of clientele here! I have been on the hunt for a salon as I am relatively new to Houston. I have been having some problems with people thinking they could brush out my extremely thick hair from root to end and continuing to try to force it even though my hair is clearly too thick for that. This was super concerning to me because of the risk of breakage. On top of that, I go to the salon to relax--not to have my neck snapped all around. Otherwise, I would just stay at home and do it myself. Anyway, I digress, my experience at FAB was great, though, and I think I have finally found a regular salon here. I have a newborn at home, so my top priority is timeliness (well, after taking the time to brush my hair out properly in sections but I never knew that would be so hard to find). As soon as I walked through the door, I was greeted and taken to the shampoo bowl. Satta gave me one of the best shampoo's I have ever had and even took the time to do a second tea tree treatment after examining my scalp. My hair felt super moisturized after the protein treatment under the steamer. Afterward, she took the time to brush my hair out beginning with the ends and working up to the roots. My silk press and trim were great, and I have gotten tons of compliments. I definitely plan to book again! read more

Honestly, one of the worst experiences I have had at a salon. I showed up 15 minutes early for my appointment. As someone also in customer service I understand that sometimes if you come early you have to wait until your appt time. What I didnt expect is to barely be acknowledged by the only one in the salon (Margret the stylist). Then to sit while she sat her behind on the couch and ate chips and clicked away on her laptop. Then at my appointment time she begrudgingly directed me into her chair like I was some huge inconvenience. She started to undo my hair and I told her I would like a consultation first. I wanted a trim for my transitioning hair but also wanted to retain some length. She began to go through my hair and told me she wanted to take several inches off to make it even to my shortest layer. I told her to please ignore that layer because I had an accident where another stylist cut it while trying to remove extenstions. She then began to argue with me and tell me it was breakage and shes been a stylist for x amount of years and she knows what breakage is. Well excuse me, but Ive had the hair on my head for 30+ years and I know what happened to it! I told her I wasnt denying breakage in other areas but that area was cut. After much debate we compromised on a shorter trim in which she maybe trimmed 5 areas she parted off. Definitely not a thorough trim at all and I had to finish the job at home. I have been a customer of this salon for several years. Margaret was the only stylist that I did not have to go back and "restyle" or "fix" my hair after leaving the salon. She matched exactly what the styles in which I requested. I have all been pleased with her work. I am always VERY pleased with her hair coloring services. She has converted me over to ther blonde family. If you have coarser textured hair--BEWARE. THE ASSISTANT DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO BLOW DRY OR DETANGLE COARSER HAIR! Biggest issue is the lack of knowledge on how to detangle and blow dry coarser natural hair (4a/4b). I'm sure the stylists knows how to do this, but her assistant who is in charge of this doesn't have a clue. This place is cute and the assistant washing my hair did a great thorough job washing and conditioning my hair and she was very nice And hospitable. However, there are major CONS! The main owner and stylists doesn't wash, condition or blow dry your hair--her assistant does. I enjoyed the wash and conditioning portion but her assistant continuously had tons of water running down my back and didn't have enough towels or big enough towels to prevent major water leakage. This also happened during the steam treatment. Not that big of a deal but still, annoying. I went for a blow dry and trim. The assistant is the one that blow dried my hair. She didn't know how to detangle my hair at all! She sectioned my hair in 4 big sections and just casually tried to brush it and then put a blow dryer on it. I actually had to do it myself to get it semi detangled! Normally when I go to salons they blow dry your hair straight and then trim. This woman didn't know how to do this at all. I don't think she had the proper training or was licensed. She seemed clueless.... even telling the stylist that I detangle my hair differently( I detangle in smaller sections like most 4a/4b women). If u have looser textured hair or fine hair, she's probably good at combing through. But if your hair is coarse at all I'd stay away. Then the stylist kind of blow dried My hair again before trimming because it's still so tangled and not smooth at all. Then tells me it won't be a precise trim because I'm not getting it flat ironed and it's not straight enough . So I don't think I'll be back. I know the owner/stylist had to have noticed the poor blow dry. It was horrible! The trim was decent but I know would have been much better had I had a proper, smooth blow dry. IN RESPONSE TO OWNER: I was hoping you would take my review as a teachable moment...improving your services, especially for coarser textured hair, but I see that you have too much pride to acknowledge when you can do things better. Maybe you were lost or confused by my statement about your assistant, I said she had no clue in regards to detangling and blow drying my natural hair. As you stated she was very sweet and I even said hospitable, even complimented her washing/conditioning capabilities. Your assistant was sweet, just teach her how to detangle/ blow dry coarser natural hair. Simple! The issue was she didn't know how to properly detangle and blow dry my hair. I had to show her how to properly detangle my hair from the end to the root and I started splitting my hair into smaller sections to detangle. She literally blow dried one large quarter section of my hair and it was NOT even detangled at all! I stopped her after that first large section and started detangling it myself in smaller sections for her to blow dry. I see on YELP that there are multiple reviews with the EXACT SAME concern and issue! So take this review and others as a teachable moment for you and your staff. If you sincerely believe that my blow dry was adequate, then I guess that's just your type of standard as a stylist and there isn't much to say. Instead of being so DEFENSIVE just do better! Her salon is cute and the vibe was always nice but Margaret has a habit of overbooking clients. At times I have spent 3 -4 hours for a silk press. The amount of time spent getting my hair done was extremely ridiculous. Additionally, if you are natural please be cautious of booking with Margaret. Before going to Margaret, my hair was thick and pass apl. After one year of her doing my hair, my hair became extremely damaged. Margaret is not very knowledgeable of natural hair. Pros: Cute little shop in an easily accessible location, with no wait. I was in and out within 30 minutes so not only was the wash/trim convenient but the cut turned out FABulous. Mag has been doing my hair for some time now and my experiences have always been great. As a matter of fact, I semi big chopped because my hair was very long but permed and it's because of the care and patience of Mag that my hair has not only grown back to the length it was when I semi big chopped but it's even longer. Today, I took my daughter in with me to have her very first blow out and her experience was amazing. Mag cut off about 2-3 inches of dead ends and my daughter and I are in love with the outcome. Not sure where these negative reviews steam from but I can say I've been a client for over a year and have never experienced anything other than professionalism from Mag and her assistant. This was prob the WORST salon experience I've ever had. Let me start off by saying I really had high hopes for this salon after seeing a friend's results and viewing the website. I am very cautious about where I spend my hard earned money and I was incredibly disappointed. I arrived about 15 minutes early for my appt I was hoping Margaret would be able to start on me early, however I was perfectly fine with waiting until my appt time if necessary. To my surprise, Margaret wasn't even there. Her assistant(I think) greeted me and told Margaret would be arriving shortly but she was going to go ahead and start my wash. This rubbed me the wrong way off top bc I was hoping to at least have a brief consult with Margaret bc this was my first time using this salon and I had questions and was also interested in additional services. The wash was mediocre,I like to be informed on the products as they are being put in my hair(esp on the first visit) that didn't happen here. After the wash my back was soaked and I was placed under the steamer with a completely drenched towel on my neck. Margaret still hadn't arrived by this time. The young lady(possibly an assistant) began to blow dry my hair. I am not sure if this is usual practice, but again I was highly disappointed bc I don't think this person was licensed to do hair(I only saw one license posted on the wall). The young lady made no effort to detangle prior to starting the blow dry. She immediately started brushing my wet hair with a rush and didn't even bother with starting with a wide tooth comb. This was my worst blow dry experience. She burned my scalp THREE TIMES with the blow dryer. At this point I'm really starting to feel very annoyed. I overheard the conversations of the young lady speaking to Margaret and it seemed like she was being instructed to continue and the young lady even seemed uncertain about what she was doing. After the young lady finished blow drying my hair she told me Margaret would be arriving in 10 minutes to continue my hair. She did not arrive in 10 minutes. Once she did arrive she apologized but didn't really seem very genuine or as if she was truly apologetic for arriving over an hour after my scheduled appt. it seemed she may have been more concerned abt the delayed errand she was running. At this point I am incredibly disappointed with the service. As she begins to blow dry my hair again she asks very casually "so how do you want your hair styled" again this is totally not what I'm used to from a stylist esp not on your first visit. She goes on to tell me that my hair is damaged in some spots(which I already knew and wanted to discuss had there been some sort of consult in the beginning). She tells me I need a trim and that it would cost extra. ANOTHER Disappointment: I booked a blow out and trim online to begin with and she didn't even know! I was the only client at that time, idk how that was confusing! I took the time follow her procedures for booking and she didn't even have the decency to review what I was even there for. As she was flat ironing my hair she also grazed my face with the iron bc she was moving way too fast. I asked if she uses a heat protectant and I think she took it the wrong way. Her response wasn't one of a stylist that wants to educate and inform a client but seemed more on the defensive side. She also told me that there aren't really heat protectants that exist?!? Whet? she wanted to trim two inches or more, I was fine with that, but i ask questions because I want to be informed not to question her expertise and I didn't feel comfortable asking questions. I wasn't satisfied with the way she curled my hair the first time especially since I said I wanted a slight curl and she styled my hair like a curled helmet. The middle part of my crown was broken so she said I didn't have any options when it came to styling. I asked if it were possible for her to flat iron that part down and it seemed like I offended her. At this point there was another client that arrived so she left me to tend to them and when she came back I could tell she wasn't interested in satisfying me as a customer but was ready for my appointment to be over. I was over it too! I still had questions and she continued to tell me that my hair was damaged due to sew ins and the only remedy would be to cut my hair into a pixie. I was so perplexed that that was her only suggestion of a remedy. My hair is shoulder length with damaged areas in the middle that I have had since I was kid and I have had all my life which i tried to explain but she insisted that it was due to sew ins and braids that I hadn't had in 6 months. This was the first time I didn't tip my stylist and not that I expected a discount but it would have been a nice offer considering she was late AF. pro: they offer a complimentary drink(wine, water, or soda) I asked for wine and they didn't even have any.:-/ read more

I typically never write reviews, but after leaving without disclosing my disappointment, I felt that I should mention it. I made an appointment with the owner (who never formally introduced herself or greeted me) after searching on Instagram for some time. I even followed her because I admired her work so much. When I got to the salon, I was a little turned around because there were no signs, but I saw a credit card sticker in the door and figured it was a business. I pulled at the door and it was locked. After standing to the side and scrolling through my emails for a few minutes to make sure I was at the right place, someone came to the door and told me to have a seat. I was about 30 minutes early for my 6:30 appointment, so I didn't mind waiting. I wanted to come in early because I knew I would only be getting a shampoo and blowdry and didn't want to be the last appointment and have her waiting for that. While I was waiting her assistant began small talk, but the owner rudely kept calling and demanding her to do different things such as blow-dry different people, move people around and so on. The assistant even looked annoyed. I mentioned to the assistant that though I booked the $40 wash, treatment & trim, that I was only getting a shampoo due to wanting to ensure my hair was clean for braids that I would be getting the following day. She attempted to place me under the hydrating machine because she said," they needed to catch up and were running behind", and I declined and told her I had no issue waiting. I mentioned that I had dandruff build up and my main reason for coming was to ensure someone could get it cleaner than me. The assistant was very sweet, but she didn't have nails, nor did she attempt to scrub the scalp. She just rubbed her hands around. After my wash, she asked me to sit to the side while she blew-out someone else. Without combing my hair out. So my hair began to dry while still being tangled. She eventually got to me and de-tangled, then blew out my hair piece by piece, which is typically more time consuming and painful because the hair is DRY! She also was told to stop doing that to wash someone's conditioner out. So while I was waiting for her to return the owner was flat ironing someone's hair. The lady had bad ends from what appeared to be bleach, but the owner berated her and said, "Oh girl your hair is messed up. These ends are terrible". They went back and forth about cutting the hair, but the woman wasn't comfortable with cutting her hair into the bob, only a trim. The owner then said, "Ok. Don't go writing no review when it doesnt look silky and smooth then. It's not going to look good". I just thought that was rude. Some people arent ready to cut their hair and we come to stylist to make us feel beautiful, not bad. She ended up cutting ALOT, which did make her hair look much better, but it was more of a cut than a trim. There's a difference between being honest and just nasty. Anyways, her assistant (sister), came back and as she was finishing up she stated, "there's some dandruff right here. Just letting you know before you go home and see it." Without trying to at least pretend like she was getting it out. It just wasn't a pleasant experience, and I'm not sure if It was because I wasn't getting a silk press, or what. I then had to pay $40 for a horrible shampoo and blow-dry. Nothing else. I definitely had intentions of coming back to get a silk press, but not anymore. I've even cancelled my second appointment I made for the end of this month. Everyone has their days, but first impressions are everything. I hope this helps going forward. read more

Will never return. I went here for a silk press at 5:45. I arrived 10 minutes early and there were three people in front of me, one was a sew-in! She didn't start my shampoo until 7:15 and I didn't leave until almost 9:30! That's almost four hours for a service that shouldn't be more than 1! She apologized so I tried again. THE SAME THING HAPPENED! I arrived 30 minutes early; there was someone under the dryer, another at the shampoo bowl and someone in the chair. After an hour she had finally attempted to wash me. After another hour I had enough, I was just sitting around and decided to leave. When I left she told me that I still had to pay for my shampoo. In that time period two other ladies arrived after me, both had appointments 15 minutes apart after me. Once I walked out one joined me saying that she couldn't believe she actually made me pay for the shampoo after I had to wait two hours. I will never return. She does good hair, but she's books client after client in 15 minute intervals and I cannot wait four hours every three weeks! read more

I think you have to have a wig or hair extensions for her to do your hair? Unprofessional and mood swings. I think because she's hungry or something could be off/ wrong with her? My hair texture seems a little different afterwards also. My hair is MY crown and I feel like everyone is looking at it. Something about the hands made me want to puke. I'm natural and my hair is very curly. I love the fact that Margaret knows how to take extremely good care of my hair and it always comes out looking beautiful and healthy. I get the silk/steam treatment when I go and my hair looks flawless every time. She is very knowledgable and passionate about healthy hair. I appreciate her honesty and integrity. First, I want to say that Satta's customer service was excellent! Second, Margaret was AMAZING!! I am from Detroit and have been looking for a beautician in Houston for years. I finally found one last year and she moved to Alabama. A friend of mine gave me Margaret's info. and all I can say is THANK YOU JESUS! I have 4C hair so you have to know what you are doing with my curl pattern. Margaret colored, cut and silk pressed my hair. It was FABULOUS! It is going on two weeks and it is STILL FABULOUS!
