    Potato gratin side dish

The interior is small but well lit and you don't feel crowded. The wait staff was super helpful and explained the steak cuts well. The food is phenomenal - a great steakhouse with amazing sides. The kidney and bone marrow appetizers were unique and delicious! Getting a reservation was difficult (you expect that at a popular location of this caliber) but worth it.

The steak here was delicious! It was seasoned well and seared well, with just the right amount of salt and a nice crust. The pepper sauce added a nice touch, but the steak tasted fabulous on its own. The chips in beef drippings were super crispy, and you could really taste the beef drippings. I got a small 6 oz. Filet with chips and it was enough to fill me. I was perfectly satisfied. To end on a sweet note, I ordered the Black Forest Cheesecake and it was creamy and decadent, without being too heavy. The cherry sorbet that accompanied it was refreshing. The only item I did not like from the menu was the Heritage 1930 cocktail: way too sweet. Good thing I ended on a different, more pleasant, sweet note.

My partner and I showed up from our long-haul flight, dragging our suitcases and backpacks, wearing hoodies and sneakers and definitely tired. You would've thought we came dressed to the nines! This place was elevated, and I greatly appreciated that it didn't affect the attention and service we received. The Sunday roast was great value for the cost! We started with the bone marrow, which was so good. There was a layer of buttery-soft mashed potatoes which were delicious! The potatoes roasted in duck fat... I mean, what is better?

Cote de boeuf with foie gras (came with mash/chips/broccolini/green beans/mushrooms/sautéed onions, all 4 sauces).

Make the reservation and prepare yourself by skipping lunch that day. The restaurant and its staff really is a gem. Casual enough for friends to gather but "dressy" enough to be a nice date night place. Started with the short rib nugget, beef carpaccio and caesar salad. Here's the deal, the salad plate was cold, but the salad itself was room temp at best and the dressing was really "mayonnaise-y" and less like you typical Caesar dressing (peppery, lemony, anchovy-ey). The beef carpaccio had good flavor, but nothing that would blow your mind. However, the short rib carried the misses from the other starters. It was tender shredded short rib coated in a light breading and fried. It was served with a mushroom type cream sauce and I could've and would've eaten it for app, main and dessert! As for the main, we opted for the cote de boeuf. I didn't realize how much food it was going to come with until I saw a neighbor table order the chateaubriand and the food just kept pilling on! It came with all 4 sauces, and all the sides you could imagine. It was for 2, but could easily feed 4! The server suggested we order it medium so the fats had enough time to render, however, I would stick to medium-rare next time because some of the actual meat was a bit more done than I would normally take. We opted for the foie gras on top and that really helped with the "more cooked" pieces. We ended up taking 1/2 of the dinner to go. Unfortunately we had no space for dessert, but I cannot wait to visit this place again!

FX Buckley was an unplanned birthday success! My cousin and I were visiting Dublin in May for my birthday and had a different restaurant planned for my birthday dinner; however, due to my fashionably lateness (which I say is allowed on one's birthday), we missed our reservation. The night before we met a chef while having drinks at Brazen Head, and when we told him of my birthday dinner plans, he suggested FX Buckley as an alternative. After missing our reservation, we realized how close we were to FX Buckley so we stopped by, and they said they'd be able to fit us in within an hour which was perfect. We walked over to the pub across the street for a Guiness, and around 30 minutes later, Daniel, the host/manager? came over to grab us. From there, we had the best dinner ever. I think our waiter was named George - at least that's what the receipt says, but for some reason I have "Robert?" saved as a note in my phone - either way, he was great. We ordered cocktails (I ordered the espresso martini; my cousin ordered the whiskey sour, and later the bourbon old fashioned - which comes with a fun smokey show). For steak, they displayed a tray of various cuts for us to choose from (I went with the 12 oz sirloin and my cousin ordered the 12 oz rib eye). For our side, we each ordered the creamy mashed potato with spring onion and for additional sides, we ordered the green beans with shallot dressing and the caramelized onions. All of the steak sauce options were so good; instead of choosing one, they brought out all four for us to sample. My favorites were probably the garlic butter and the Bearnaise; the other two were pepper sauce and bone marrow jus. And to top it all off, at the end of the meal they brought out a birthday vanilla crème brûlée with a candle. The restaurant is not a large location (though it is a really lovely space) so I'm thankful they were able to fit us in without a reservation. It was a fantastic birthday dinner, and I hope to dine here again on my next visit to Dublin.

    Porterhouse.

This was one spot that I didn't plan on visiting, but surprisingly was the absolute favorite meal on the entire Ireland trip. Our tour guide mentioned how great all the beef is here because the cows are all grass-fed, so we decided to check it out. Although we weren't able to get reservations the day of, we decided to come early at 5:30pm for a seat. Luckily, they were able to accommodate us, but definitely make reservations ahead of time. Once you're seated, the waiter brings a platter of all their cuts of meat and gives you an introduction. This was impressive. We ended up ordering the Porterhouse for 2 (€105), side of Sugar Pit Bacon (€4.95), and a bottle of Urban Malbec (€44). The porterhouse is perfect for a date night, which also includes all the fixings: sauteed mushrooms, sauteed onions, mashed potatoes, chips (or fries), green beans, and broccolini. All I can say is WOW. This meal was absolutely delicious! Be sure to come here with an appetite. With all the meat and potatoes you will consume in Ireland, this is one that you don't want to miss.

    Bone in ribeye
    Lloyd M.

In my opinion, the best steak house in Dublin. Both the quality of the beef and how it is prepared is critical, and they get it correct on both attributes. I had the bone in ribeye and the cut had just the right amount of marbling and was cooked to true medium rare, just as ordered. I like the fried onions that were included and the fact I could substitute a salad for the potatoes. The creamed spinach side was also great. The atmosphere also works for a steakhouse, it is old school without being fake old school (where they try too hard) and service is quite efficient. Best steak house experience I've had in Dublin.

So here's my story and I'm sticking to it... walking though Dublin and the wife and I run across a butcher shop, F.X.Buckley, and loving meat the way I do I was very sad... all that lovely meat and no way to take it home or grill it on the balcony of the hotel. But WAIT they have restaurants, with available slots for reservations!!! Yay for us, we can eat that beautiful meat and not have to cook it ourselves So we made reservations for F.X. Buckley the Restaurant Started with 1/2 dozen oysters, beautiful fresh flavor Porterhouse, chips, mash, green beans, broccoli Perfectly cooked Cuts like butter Crème Brule Very attentive service 815 reservation, seated exactly on time €142 for two with, tax tips and drinks they have their own steak knives that they sharpen 3 x a week so your meat will cut and not tear Highly recommend - and reasonably priced for a higher end restaurant

While traveling in Ireland with my daughter, we decided to give F.X. Buckley a try. I was looking forward to try a steakhouse that has been voted as one of the top 101 Steak Restaurants in the world for 4 consecutive years. And F.X. Buckley did not disappoint! Impeccable service coupled with excellent steak. I ordered the 22oz Rib Eye on the bone. It was juicy and flavorful, simply superb. The cajun onions were a nice surprise and their fries were thick with a crunchy exterior and a light and fluffy interior. We loved it!

Ribeye bone in with Cajun onions

Amazing food and we're able to seat a part of 2 last minute. Meat was perfectly cooked to the requested medium rare and the pepper sauce was a perfect compliment to it, not overpowering.

Food was delicious but you don't get much for what you pay for. Although the bone marrow was definitely worth it. Obviously all the food is incredible quality and great service too. They have beautiful modern water carafes that caught my eye. Nice bathrooms too.

    Elgin M.

After not being able to get a seat in my first couple of visits due to my own lack of planning I was finally able to see what this is all about. I was not disappointed in the slightest. Great service, great food from starter to dessert. And maybe even the best of all a great price for the food and service I got. If I had had this exact same meal in the states it would have easily cost me twice as much. If you're planning a visit to Dublin call ahead and get a table or you likely will be left out in the cold. Order the Ribeye med rare, and a side creamed spinach and thank me later. Also if there's more than one of you have an order of oysters and get your meal started off right. (Thanks table next to me)

Tucked down Dame Court just off Dame Street, The Stag's Head is one of those rare pubs that feels genuinely historic rather than designed to look old. The building dates to the late 1800s, and the interior retains the ornate features of a classic Victorian "gin palace"--rich carved wood, stained glass, brass rails, and a warm, glowing bar that feels wonderfully preserved. We stopped in around 4:30 pm, which turned out to be a perfect time to visit. There were other patrons enjoying drinks and food, but the atmosphere was calm and relaxed rather than loud or rowdy. It felt like the kind of place where locals drop in for a quiet pint on their way home from work before the evening crowd arrives. The staff were excellent--friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good (we failed to take photos because we were too busy enjoying it). As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see the Impossible burger front and center on their menu; it was deliciously prepared with guacamole on a brioche bun, and not an afterthought on the menu. My companions both chose the Irish Beef Burger, and said it was excellent. One thing to know: this is a traditional Victorian pub, so cocktails aren't really part of the program. Expect beer, wine, or spirits rather than mixed drinks. In a place like this, that actually feels exactly right. Other pubs do serve mixed drinks. Between the history, the ambience, the quality of the food, and the wonderful staff, The Stag's Head is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've experienced a real piece of Dublin.

Menu has a good selection of Irish dishes from seafood chowder up to lamb stew and pies. We ordered the potato soup, seafood chowder, 'banjo' burger with onion rings. The soups arrived first and the seafood chowder was loaded with huge pieces of fish, potatoes (not many) with a creamy rich base. Flavor was incredible and in itself a full meal. Served in a large crock style bowl. The potato soup was minus any whole potatoes. It was a rich creamy base with plenty of flavor and very hearty. The burger was really a double cheeseburger with plenty of cheese, grilled onions, what appeared to be a mayonnaise based sauce on a soft hamburger roll. Really tall enough that it was tough getting your mouth around it. Very well seasoned burgers and the onions were a nice touch. The onion rings were huge and had a very light batter on them. They served in a metal bowl to keep them hot. For dessert the apple crumble was ordered which was served in a large dish with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This could have been warmer but still was good.. The 5 star rating is for the chowder as it outshone the rest of the meal although the burger was definitely a close second. Definitely will return to try other dishes when we come back to the city.

The meat and veggies were plentiful, the portion generous, and it was tasty enough but maybe on the bland side? It was served with a side of braised red cabbage which we really liked: sweet but not sour like pickled cabbage. And house-made brown stout bread, also very good. The wife had a Guinness and I, thinking it too cliché to order Guinness as a tourist in Ireland, tried a different stout whose name I've forgotten from the ample selection. But comparing the two, so much better! The menu offers a wide variety of traditional Irish dishes, more than most of the similar pubs in the area. As well as the other expected pub type food: sandwiches, burgers, etc. As for desserts, if we were hungrier, the wife might have ordered the Irish Whiskey Bread & Butter Pudding. The hubby would probably get his dessert later, as the selection was limited and neither that nor the Apple Crumble appealed. Sitting at the bar we had a more personalized experience than were we at a table. The bartender offered to take a photo of me behind the bar which I of course accepted. We made the right choice in coming here.

Our first meal in Dublin was at The Old Mill Restaurant, right in the heart of Temple Bar.
