A better than average steakhouse but food was oversalted to the extreme. Food: order the chateaubriand for two. Steak was good but not exceptional. And it was far too salted. The meal also included a variety of sides such as mashed potatoes, fries, cooked onions, and sauteed mushrooms. Most of the sides were far too salty. Service: Good service, except at the end of the meal everyone disappeared. We had to flag someone down and ask for the check. Ambiance: extremely dark (so much so it was very hard to read the menu), cozy, blend of folksy and classic steakhouse Value: Given the quality of the steak, mediocre value Overall cleanliness: above average Bathroom cleanliness: above average

This is according to many blogs #1 steakhouse in Dublin and #6 world. I am a Texan and would say this is a good steak and recommend to come but not the best. I would recommend for a special occasion because it is lovely but personally would not come back. Reservations: required if you want a seat. I booked 1 week before arrival to Dublin and only 5:15 and 5:30 were available. I got 5:15 reservation and was respectful requested to leave by 7pm. Service: they do come by and try to push you to order food and drinks quickly. We were not too hungry and took our time. Multiply waiters work your table. But once we ordered and got our food, waiters disappeared and trying to get our bill at 6:50 was a bit hard since no server was around or they were trying to not make eye contact. Food: ordered the Chateaubriand. It came with quite a generous amount of sides: mashed potatoes, fries (chips), green beans and broccoli, mushrooms, onions, 4 sauces. We ordered medium-rare. The beef was cooked properly, I got the more cooked end pieces and husband got the more rare. The mashed potatoes were so salty that I could not eat them. The onions were too salty too, so just tried them. The mushrooms were decent but bit overcooked but tasty. The green beans were perfectly cooked. The broccoli was barely cooked through just the way I like it. All 4 sauces were ok but did not complement the meat. We just ate our steak plain with veggies and fries. There were so hits and misses in the overall meal. Torn between 3/4 stars. Bathroom: upstairs and above average clean.

This was the one place we had to try while we were in town - one of the top-rated steak houses in the world. We had reservations and were seated quickly. The place was pretty small, and the staff were very attentive and friendly. We started with a round of drinks, then all ordered the filet with different toppings and potatoes for dinner. Everything was delicious - I even got a free creme brulee for dessert!!

After seeing the butcher shop and finding out that they had restaurants as well we decided to make a reservation and have dinner here. Since it was out first visit we went a little overboard and ordered too much, but it was so good that we forced ourselves to eat it all. Oysters, Porterhouse Steak, Chips and Mash, Mushrooms and Onions, and Asparagus. Oh so good, Make reservations and you will not be disappointed. The food is fantastic and the service is phenomenal.

Amazing!! I visited in Feb 2024, on a trip to Dublin from the US. FX Buckley was not on my to-do list, but was recommended to me by my hotel (shout out to the Merrion- see my review on them!) and thank goodness!! Luckily, I was able to get an early reservation as reservations are tough to come by, so plan ahead! The Dublin location is intimate in its seating. The decor is what you would expect from a world class steakhouse, although the entrance had New Orleans vibes, and the chop knife door handle was a nice touch! They started as a butcher, and their butcher shop is next door so that you can see the cuts of meat as you walk to enter. I read reviews before I came referencing service challenges and have to say I was a tad nervous. My fears were completely unfounded; my service was superior! I arrived a tad early and they were able and happy to seat me early. A party of one, I had a nice corner table but unfortunately it was across from a party of two where the male guest was rather loudly walking his way through all the curse words in the english language. I left my table to get a break and was immediately asked if I needed any assistance; when I explained my situation, I was immediately offered another table, which I declined as I liked where I was seated. In response, the staff made sure to repeatedly go to "check" on the guests at the offending table, winking at me as they went by, which had the intended result of lowering their volume and clearing (at least somewhat) the vocabulary. Exemplary customer service all around!! Now, to be honest, this may not have played out the same at the height of the dinner rush when no other tables are available and all attention is needed elsewhere, but as patrons we need to recognize the demands of the business and gage and judge accordingly. NO WAY did an establishment with poor a customer service orientation give the service I experienced where both parties were well treated. Now to the main course (ha!) the steak!! My GOD. They are rated 6th worldwide, and I just wanna know who got slots 1-5?!! I started with a cauliflower soup (EXCELLENT!!!) followed by the mid sized ribeye and Lawd!! That was by FAR the best steak I have had, bar none-and I have been to many a well rated steakhouse. The char flavor was outstanding and although I added mashed potatoes to my order, the steak-plated alone as it deserved-was enough. I cut it thin as I could just to make it last! Superior service, followed by extraordinary food, in a historic and top, globally rated resturant! I'd almost fly back to Dublin just to have dinner there again! I can't explain why it wasn't originally on my 'Must Do' list; don't make my mistake-be sure to put it on yours! Five ecstatic stars!

We had an unreal time dining here at F.X Buckley. The staff were all so friendly and helpful and the food is excellent. The steaks were all cooked to perfection and so delicious. I highly recommend checking this spot out.

Booked a Sunday lunch reservation after researching the best spots in Dublin to experience a traditional Sunday roast. Arrived a few minutes before the restaurant opened and was warmly greeted and invited to sit and have a cocktail in their beautiful bar area. The space is gorgeous! Cozy and classic. The cocktails- a Bloody Mary and a smoked old fashioned were perfect. After sitting down our waiter went over the menu- which included not only the Sunday roast option, but all of their steaks (which are supposedly the best in Ireland). We decided after this that we just couldn't limit ourselves to the Sunday roast as this would be our only opportunity to try their steaks this trip. We settled on the Kilkeel Lobster Ravioli to start, followed by the Cote de Boeuf for two (which came with all four sauces, mashed potatoes, fries, caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, and a mix of broccolini, asparagus, and green beans). We also chose a lovely red wine to accompany the delicious food. Everything was spectacular and full of flavor! We loved the taste of the charcoal on the steak which was perfectly cooked. Finished out the meal with macchiatos and the cheesecake- also delicious! We couldn't finish the wine, but they graciously corked it for us and included it for us to take home with our leftovers. Highly recommend this wonderful restaurant if you're looking for a truly epic steak in a classic and cozy setting! There are several other restaurants run by FX Buckley around Dublin. They all look great too!

Steak with béarnaise sauce and creamed spinach

Came here with a group of 7. Interior was really dark. Servers are expedient-they know their stuff and they get you your answers, drink and food quickly. The sides (creamed spinach, frites) complimented our steaks nicely. I was fairly full so I skipped dessert but those who did have them enjoyed the cheesecake. I also abstained from alcohol but the old fashion presentation was a sight to behold. Steak was good but did require more chewing than I anticipated for medium.

This is considered number 6 or 7 in Top Steakhouses in the world? Sorry, but with a title as grand as that you would expect a perfectly cooked steak. I asked for medium rare, more to the rare side and it came out medium done. Yuck! Service was as expected. The server was not particularly chatty though on a weekday. Due to the misfire in cooking the manger compensated a cocktail. Ambiance was dark and earthy. Reminded me of any old world steakhouse. The good part was the bottle of wine which the restaurant sources directly from Italy and the sweet breads.

This was a cool little steakhouse. I really enjoyed the food. We had; Short Rib nugget- Small but tasty Roasted Scallops- Delicious Charcuterie Board- it was ok, the meats weren't so tasty Ribeye- phenomenal Cream spinach- it was ok Cream Mash Potatoes- good

Sincerely enjoyed the ambiance of FX Buckley. Be sure to get there early for a pre-dinner drink! The food was great. Not the best steak I've ever had, but a very enjoyable experience with fantastic service.

Great food, great service, great ambiance. We were visiting from America and enjoyed our meal. However another group and was extremely loud and drunk, staff said they could not do anything or ask them to be respectful. For this reason we cut our visit short.

    Porterhouse prettiness!

This is their second location after the original FX Buckley on Pembroke Street opened in the 1980s; but the Buckley family has been serving premium cuts of Irish beef since the 1600s! The restaurant's interior leans into rich, warm tones with dark woods, leather seating, an open kitchen, and an atmosphere that feels both refined and approachable. Make sure to check out the massive dry-aging fridge in the front of the space, where scarlet-hued meats are displayed through transparent glass panes. We made a reservation for 4 at 6:30pm on a Sunday night through OpenTable, and the restaurant was about half-full when we arrived, but filled up throughout the course of our meal. Our server immediately brought over a tray of their six cuts of meat (all 100% Irish and dry-aged for 28 days), including ribeye, striploin, filet, and variations on the bone. Additionally, there's chalkboard graphics on the wall with detailed descriptions of each cut, which was very helpful in our selection. All steaks are cooked in their signature Josper charcoal ovens, lending a lovely touch of smoky flavor. The menu reads "classic steakhouse", with plenty of different cuts and weights of steak, refined starters, plenty of sides, and a variety of options for non-beef-eaters. We also appreciated the fact that each steak comes with your choice of one of three sides (chips, mashed potatoes, or salad), as well as your choice of sauce (bernaise, bone marrow jus, garlic butter, or pepper sauce). Additionally, all steaks on the bone are served with crispy fried onions. Their wine list is highly lauded, with bottles from all around the world, and a master in-house sommelier. As two members of our party weren't too hungry, they split a Caesar Salad (€13) and the Free Range Chicken (€29) between them. The Caesar Salad was a fresh salad of lightly-dressed, crunchy romaine lettuce, topped with an almost snow-like shaved Parmesan, and Crowe's smoked bacon. The variety of textures and flavors made this a surprising hit. The chicken was tender and juicy, served with a rich truffle cream sauce and salted kohlrabi, as well as your choice of side (she chose the Sauteed Chestnut Mushrooms with Watercress, which were so tender that they cut like butter). While we found the portion of chicken to be a bit small, the ability to choose your own side (which are normally €7-8 on their own) was much appreciated. My brother opted for the 22oz Ribeye on the Bone (€90), which was a hefty portion of well-marbled ribeye on a dramatic tomahawk bone. It was cooked to a perfect medium-rare, with a signature reddish-pink center, and paired nicely with their sharp Pepper Sauce. His Beef Dripping Chips were thick-cut steak fries, with a delightfully crispy exterior, and a pillowy soft interior. Lastly, the fried onions tasted like an elevated version of French's Fried Onions (bringing back memories of Thanksgiving green bean casserole). I chose the 16oz Striploin on the Bone (€49.50) - one generally wouldn't associate the word "value" with a top-line steakhouse, yet this was truly a steal of a dish. Cooked to a perfect rare (cool red center) with a decent amount of marbling, yet still incredibly tender, this was one of the best steaks I've ever had. The bone marrow jus tasted like a rich gravy, yet not too decadent for the sumptuous steak. I chose the Organic Leaf Salad as a side, which was an assortment of mixed leaves, thin-shaved carrots and onions, and a tangy vinaigrette; I appreciated the lightness of the dressing when paired with the meat. We were so full from our generously-portioned entrees that we couldn't fathom ordering dessert, though some of their options were quite tempting (particularly their Bailey's Espresso Cheesecake). Additionally, their Sunday Roast (€29.50) is a much more affordable way to sample some of their Irish meat, though note that it's only served between 1-4pm on Sundays. If you're in the market for a proper steakhouse experience in Dublin with quality ingredients and thoughtful execution, looking no further than FX Buckley!

No problem, it's NYE, we can wait for out booked time. Less than 5 minutes later we were lead to a table, not even time to order a drink! We shared everything. Ordered cocktails to begin with. They were ok, two different old fashioned drinks. We tried to order bone marrow, scallops, tuna tataki and a Caesar salad as starters. They were already out of the bone marrow and scallops. It's a holiday, you know there are reservations... what?! Poor management and planning!! They recommended the lamb kidneys... never had them before, super gross. I'll never do that again. It smelled like urine! We ordered the burger and 14 oz sirloin to share, medium rare on the steak. Polenta fries, and mashed potatoes. The polenta fries were outstanding! The burger was delicious! Smokey flavor, it was great. It came with huge steak fries, I prefer shoestring. The steak was not tender. Had a better steak sandwich at the Morrison for lunch. All in all, I will not be going back nor recommending this place. The wine I ordered never arrived, our water was never refilled. In fact, after the food arrived, we never saw anyone again!! When the check came with an obligatory 12.5% tip I missed it and paid. Once I noticed, I flipped out!! This was the worst service ever!! I double check tipping culture in Ireland before I complain. 10% is good for good service and bad service is ok to leave zero tip. So I asked for it back. They gave me credit for the tip but not the tax on tip. Unimpressed. Won't go again.

We were referred to Shanahan's by American friends. This is a classic American steakhouse, and had I realized that, I would have chosen a more authentically Irish restaurant. The meal and service were fantastic, but I'm not sure this would rank in my top steakhouse experiences. Our steak was not cooked medium rare - it was almost medium well. While everything was delicious, nothing stood out as unique other than the bread. That being said, a similar experience in the states would cost two times as much (think Morton's or Jeff Ruby's). The bread was fantastic, as were the scallops. As a southern American, the creamed corn was fantastic and as authentic as I've had anywhere (including the south). Our servers were incredibly attentive and the venue was beautiful. If you're from the USA... I'd pass and leave the experience to European tourists who want the American steakhouse experience. No complaints, just not what we typically look for when traveling international (which is entirely our fault). This is a very post place and reservations are a must.

The only reason I didn't rate this higher is the wait service seemed to ignore me after I ordered and only till I asked for the check. The restaurant was busy with large parties and their attentiveness with them did look like if it was slower or I had a larger party I would get the same.
