I brought my father who accidentally forgot his glasses- I tried my best to explain the different Steak options (Rump, Sirloin, T- Bone) but the best way to explain is to see it with your own eyes so the waiter happily brought out a platter of pre cooked steaks! Just seeing these massive lumps of carved meat before your eyes is enough to put you into a meat sweat. The waiters are extremely knowledgable and also very personable. They are fun without being over bearing. I had the Sirloin on the bone for about €27 with mash potatoes and onions. WHAT A DINNER! I am glad I did not get a starter as there was more than enough in this. They have an early bird menu which was extremely cheap- 2 courses for €22. I went here for lunch last week and i was delighted with the whole experience. The interior itself is quite quirky and old school. There are huge cuts of meat displayed in a cabinet. An old bike hanging on the wall. Plenty to make the eye wander. The waitstaff quickly took our orders after we were seated. The food arrived not long after and the service was prompt throughout. It means you dont feel rushed on your one hour break. As far as the food goes I ordered the superfood salad which was delicious. My boyfriend got the steak sandwich and he was also very happy with his choice. The table next to us got the burger and it looked amazing! huge hunk of meat! I love steak as anyone can see from most of my reviews! Having researched the good spread of steak options in Dublin extensively, I plumped for FX Buckley over others because of these reasons: 1. The diversity of DRY AGED meat cuts 2. The size options of said steak cuts 3. The selection sides In all three areas, FX Buckley ticked the boxes for me. If I'm right, this was a former butcher which has turned its hand at the steak restaurant business. I dined with three others and we all gave the quality of the meat the thumbs up. I went for an 18oz ribeye... It was HUGE and perfectly cooked with a sear to medium rare and a lovely texture. The sides portions were equally healthy in size... I opted for creamed spinach, mac n cheese and truffle Parmesan chips. The only slight disappointment was the mac n cheese which while perfectly nice, lacked depth. I also had to ask for more truffle on the chips, which was no problem - delicious. The Cajun onion rings are something to behold too... I loved them; crispy, not too greasy and served as an enormous portion in a salad bowl that would easily feed four people!! That is quite impressive for one side given how much I can tuck away! I also got to sample the mash - but the truffle chips probably edge it for me. The wine list is OK and there is some good value at the top end of the list, where the mark-up is very reasonable. I also loved the decor - an Irish spin on a traditional steakhouse. A bit like a smaller Goodman (for any London steak lovers). Came here a couple of nights ago. Ordered 4 steaks & some sides. Out of the 3 steaks we ordered medium-rare only one was medium-rare. The other ones were medium to medium-well. I'm shocked by this at a steakhouse. Isn't the essence of a good steakhouse to know how to cook your steak? Brought customers visiting Dublin here a few times - always with good results. Needless to say - the star of the show here is beef, and it's been consistently good every time I've been here. You can order various cuts of meat, in differing sizes, with a sauce of your choice, so you can basically customise your beef ingestion to your exact requirements :-) Quality of the meat is very high, as befits a place with their own farm and butchering business. And they really do age it and know how to cook it. Aside from that - I've also had the fried whitebait here (top class), and they have the full range of wine and a selection of beers on offer. Had my first experience of FXBs recently and I have to say, I will be back. My gorgeous OH booked it for our anniversary, knowing me to be a dedicated carnivore she was pretty sure to be on safe ground with a steak house and we had passed it recently and perused the menu (she perused, I slobbered). On arrival we were greeted pleasantly, and shown to our table. Immediately on entering the restaurant it oozes cozy pub ambiance, and for a moderately posh establishment, makes you feel comfortable almost immediately. Being a Wednesday evening it was not packed, a handful of early diners being present. By the time we left it was pretty full, which on a Wednesday in November tells its own story. On being shown to our table, we were presented with menus which include recommended cocktail selections for pre and post dinner cocktails. Feeling Bond-ish and knowing S_'s declared love for the current incumbent, I ordered a Vodka Martini (no idea if it was shaken or stirred) which was strong and dry and cleaned the palate nicely for what was to follow. S_ had some sort of Prosecco concoction, which by all accounts was delicious and boozy without tasting of it. For starters, I had the Flambéd kidneys which were served in a miniature frying pan (nice touch). They were divine, perfectly cooked and the accompanying whole grain mustard cream and bacon created a moreish extremely tasty plate. Not a huge portion, but plenty for a starter. S_ had the Caesar salad, which apparently was good although the dressing could have had more flavour. For the main event, S_ ordered the fillet medalions with spring mash and red wine jus. She was well satisfied with everything, the jus was intense and the clean plate testified to the quality of the rest. I was undecided being presented with so many choices of steak and in the end I opted for the 14 oz dry aged rump ordered rare. Rare it was, and a tasty hunk of meat too. Steaks come 1 side and a sauce, so I opted for the home cut fries (good) and the Peppercorn sauce (awesome). The sauce was bursting with peppery heat; none of the laisez-faire sludge that normally passes for a pepper sauce. S_ ordered a lime pie for dessert, which she is still talking about, it looked like a lemon merangue but with lime instead. Now for the lost star; I hate being served coffee before or with dessert, so usually don't order it until after. Once dessert was finished, our plates were whisked away pretty quickly and unfortunately, it took a while to get an order in for coffee. Not that we were in any huge rush, but it would have been nice to be asked if we wanted anything more. When we did finally order I opted for a French Coffee and S_ ordered an Earl Grey tea. No milk or sugar was brought with the tea, and the coffee, despite asking for it sweetened, came unsweetened. A point in their favour is that they used pouring cream, not whipped for the coffee. All in all, a good hearty meal in comfortable surroundings, just a few little service touches that make the difference between good and great. read more

Having made the choice of restaurant the previous time, it was left to Mrs M to select the location for dinner this weekend and so FXB was chosen. Saturday evening was really nice so it was great to get a seat by the window in a lovely restaurant. To start she had the warm goat's cheese with pickled beetroot, rocket, balsamic reduction and walnuts. It was partcularly nice and the plate was cleared, which doesn't always happen. I had the potato and leek soup - it was good but I felt it needed more seasoning. That said, it's a very subjective thing and it's not like the soup was bland. For mains, I went for the 10oz ribeye with béarnaise sauce and she had the medallions ofd fillet of beef with shallots with wild mushroom and red wine jus. My ribeye was beautiful. Cooked to perfection, it melted in my mouth. One of the finest steaks I've ever had. The medallions were also beautiful, so I was told. There wasn't much chance of me being able to cut a sliver off one without a fight :) Rounded it off with a vanilla and blueberry cheescake that was top drawer. Not too sweet as can often be the case. A word for the service also: they were attentive and courteous but there was also a relaxed friendliness about them. Readiing back it has to be a 4.5 stars. We went for an early bird at FXB's randomly and we were all raving about it afterwards. Its 2 course for 20euro and 3 courses for 24 (or something like that). I went for the 2 course option and was tempted to start off with a cocktail, but thought they were just a bit too pricey for my wallet on that day (10 - 12 euro). But then I checked in with the Yelp app and it turns out you get a free cocktail when you order a meal and check in. The thing came up just as the waiter was at our table so my 'ooooh' was very timely. I got the special cocktail which they had on that night... a coconut daiquiri, and none of your mix and oversugared drinks - this was pure and delicious. And perfect for soaking up the relaxed but sophisticated air, which just breathes comfort into your dining experience. The girls raved about their starters as I was in alcoholic heaven. For the mains I got the medallions of beef, which were to die for. The cuts were so good and cooked nice and pink (although they did accommodate requests for alternative amounts of cooking and were great with me and my black pepper allergy) and absolutely melt in the mouth. The beef came with mash but we ordered sides of chips and onion rings as well, and they were lovely too. We might have been too full for dessert but we ordered anyway. Thankfully the portions were small, but bursting with taste. Oh and extra points for having Bulmers on the menu. Couldn't have asked for a better meal! read more

After years of eating out I've come to understand that it's hard to find a good steak, especially if you're eating out on a budget. But FXB do some great lunch deals with steaks for around 10 EUR which is a pretty good deal. And the steak was just as I'd ordered it- medium, if you want to know- with mash, which was yummy as well. It was very tasty and filling, so filling in fact that I didn't have room for dessert which doesn't happen too often. My German partner loves Irish steak and asked me to choose an Irish restaurant that served a great steak as his last night of our trip back to Ireland. I chose FX Buckleys cause even as a vegetarian there's always been delicious smells coming out whenever I walked past. We got a great early bird three courses- about 23 euros with a 5 euro extra charge for sirloin. The starters was eggs benedict for me on asparagus and caesar salad for him - the hollondaise sauce was wonderful and the asparagus very al-dente. I had the portobello mushroom with cheese and spinach and wrapped in filo pastry, he got the sirloin. I have to say, as the one veggie option in a steakhouse, I was bowled over by how tasty it was. Bf was delighted with the steak and kept saying how it was perfectly cooked for him ( a medium-to-well-done fan). There was a special for the desert which was an apple and rhubarb crumble which was amazingly flavourful and tangy and completely overshadowed the chocolate tart I got. The other major point about the service was while we were eating there was a very loud party behind us. Another waitress asked the party of gentlemen to quieten down a bit and they made some offensive retort to her - I couldn't hear what. Next thing an assistant manager-type was down at their table - mollifying them as their ringleader ( a large man with an odd accent - south african?) got quite upset that the waitress asked him to be quiet, saying it was a steakhouse and he was here to enjoy himself. He actually used the line "do you know who I am" and "look me up on google". He then started to threaten not to leave a tip. The waiter/assistant-manager guy said it was within his rights of course... My bf and I were absorbed - dinner and drama! Then things took a turn for the serious when the ringleader then made some remark I couldn't catch but I guessed was very mysogynistic about the previous waitress. The assistant-manager type quickly dropped all his appeasing behaviour and asked "would you talk to your mother that way?" The ringleader spluttered a bit and the other guy continued "that's in no way acceptable". THe ring leader retorted that it was ok in his culture, to which the other guy replied it wasn't ok in any culture and he didn't care about a tip. The ring-leader mumbled some form of apology and peace was restored. The atmosphere lightened when the party left but honestly I was overjoyed to see that the staff members back each other up and don't compromise their values for some boor with an attitude problem. My favourite cut of beef is the Porterhouse, sirloin on one side of the bone, and filet on the other, it is a special grade of your normal T-bone. Their Porterhouse for two is an amazing meal. The one we got here, the filet side was massive, and so tender. One of the best steaks I have had among steak houses all over the world. Cheeky long lunch from work, why thank you I will! This, if I'm honest, would be the last place I would ever choose, but I ended up quite enjoying my meal, despite my limited options. They were happy to make a couple of minor adjustments to dishes for me and my salad was grand, but not a patch on my desert, if I ever return I will be having zesty lime pie for starter, main and desert! It's divine! Just the right level of tang on a perfectly ginger-nutty base topped with Italian meringue. I can't recommend it enough for afters. However I had all of 1 option (which had to be adjusted to make it vegetarian) and a couple of my dining companions weren't overly impressed, especially the soggy batter on the fish was an issue. And there were just a couple of wee things that didn't sit overly well with me, like having the wrong menus set out for us and a quite brusque waitress in a practically empty venue means even such a tasty treat can't see me increase the stars. read more

A really great steakhouse! Had the 10oz rib eye and it was one of the best steaks I've had in a long time. Perfectly cooked and seasoned and really, really tender. It came with chunky chips and the most delicious peppercorn sauce. The baked blueberry cheesecake was a nice end to the meal and the coffee was good and strong. I had my ups and downs with FX, it's such a Dublin experience, you'd like to bring any of your visitors there but it's quite expensive and quality is not always matching the prices. I had 2/3 bad experiences for 1 really good dinner thus I was really sceptical to go back when my bf suggested it last Friday. But it was over 9pm and there's not that many restaurants that still served food at that time. Anyway, we head there because it's late, the restaurant is big enough to have a table and were having this guy over from NYC and we can't bring him to any pizza place. First, we almost forget it because we live here and almost any dinner place is nice in Dublin but Brooklyn friend is really impressed by the atmosphere and the restaurant itself, small garden, nice tables, nice lights (much better than the one in temple bar for sure) we have a table almost immediately. I warn them about my bad experiences with t-bone, chateaubriand, the Cajun thing and the mash potatoes - they tart freaking out and we all go for fries salad sirloin and fillets. We skip the cocktails, I didn't like them each time I tried them and go for a bottle of Sauvignon blanc because we like it and don't care meat goes with red wine. The wine was delicious, food was delicious, service was impeccable, we had a great night despite my fears. So my advice: go for the wines they are much better than in a lot of other restaurants, skip the cocktails, go with sirloin and fillets, don't miss the fries. If you stick to that, you'll have the impression it's a good dinner even tho it's quite expensive read more

I ventured into FXBuckleys after reading race reviews online and I must say , it lived up to its highest praise. We were seated immediately and from the offset felt as if the waiter genuinely cared about making our dining experience exquisite, I had the selection of bread and dips to start, absolutely fantastic way to cleanse ones palate before the main attraction in this establishment That being steak. And in my case it being a 12oz fillet steak And my god was it divine! Their is a tendency for such a large cut of meat to be incorrectly cooked and even cold in the normal run of things, however, this is not the normal run of things and I am pleased to say that although I ordered my cut rare it was pristinely and perfectly done all throughout and juicy I really cannot praise it enough. Coupled with beef dripping chips this meal was glorious. I cannot praise this establishment enough all I can say is get in there already! read more
