Great food, great atmosphere, and great service. We actually got to meet the owner and he was very friendly.

Very good, international quality, steakhouse. I'd say the best part is the downstairs bar, very warm atmosphere. The food was good, similar as you would have at a NY steakhouse. Started with the grilled mussels, a large portion though the mussels themselves were particularly small. Ribeye as a main was an excellent steak. Overall, typical good steakhouse meal.

This has to be the best steak house I found in Europe "Ireland " I have to come back for nice dinner here

We came to Ireland to celebrate our 20th anniversary and chose to dine here that evening for our celebration. When I made my reservation, I asked for a romantic table. I was happy we were placed in a smaller room and by the window. At the end of our meal, they gave us Prosecco and sweets for a toast to celebrate. The restaurant is set in an elegant older home and makes you feel at home when here. Friendly staff greets you at the door and the service was excellent. They gave us a sweet treat at the end of the meal and the hostess indulged is with taking our photo. To begin, they send out warm fresh bread. My filet was tender and delicious. I loved how the potatoes showed up in a copper pot for sharing. This is a great place for a romantic celebration dinner.

Shanahan Restaurant oozes opulence even before you step into the place. Housed in a 250 year old townhouse overlooking St. Stephen's Green, one can tell that this place is reserved for that special occasion, that place where you want her to say "yes", or that expense account dinner where you want to blow off some steam and some Euros. The first thing when you approach the building is the huge floral arrangement in the window. Continue upstairs, and that's where the main dining room is. Shanahan is an American steakhouse, complimented with local Irish ingredients. All beef is hand selected angus, with a combo of dry and wet aging. Each steak is from the best six bone rib section of the steer. What I find interesting is they can trace each cut back to the particular animal and herd's family tree. Now that's quality control. Although my steak was cooked a bit much for rare, the quality of the beef still showed thru. If you want to throw back a few pints, the "Oval Office" is the name of the bar. As the name suggests, it is decorated with US presidential artifacts...remember, this is an American place. Bring that diamond ring or bring that contract that needs to be signed. But most important, bring that credit card...it will get a workout.

For our last night of a three week vacation and 21st Wedding Anniversary, I wanted to take my wife somewhere really special for dinner in Dublin. Our friend and neighbor in CA referred us to Shanahan's on the Green in Dublin. We asked two tour guides and they both concurred Shanahan's was the best in Dublin. They were all right and we were in for the treat of the entire vacation! We even met Mr. Shanahan himself and he invited us to the bar down stairs to taste some Shanahan's single malt Irish Whiskey and it was fantastic! He is a character, fun and full of energy. You can see why his staff is "Top Notch" once you've met the Man in Charge! Upstairs for fine wine, garlic shrimp, filet mignon and sole! They knocked it out of the park in amazing food and unsurpassed service. We will never forget our night a Shanahan's on the Green. If in Dublin, don't miss it. Highly Recommended!

I've been to a lot of steak restaurants in my time and I think this is the best one I've been to. The service was impeccable and the steak (and lamb) were delicious. The prices make this a special occasion type of place but it is worth it. The wine selection is top notch, we ended up having an Argentinian Malbec, which turned out to be a good choice based on the meals we decided to order. Highly recommend it if you're having steak. The dessert menu was very impressive also and we all enjoyed the ice cream and chocolate (I know it sounds boring but trust me, they do something special here). You'll come out spending at least €60-70 a person if you order wine and have dessert so be warned. Personally I'd be willing to starve myself for a week if it meant I could eat here frequently. In a word, this place is "perfect".

For one of the best restaurants in Dublin, the breads were amazing even it was free. I like the starter, special. The service was really good and professional. Fillet was good, tender but not tasty enough.

Shanahan's on the green has a very knowledgeable and friendly bar staff - they offer a Shanahan's single malt sourced from Cooley distillery which has since been bought by Teeling distillery. I also received excellent recommendations for whiskey hunting in Dublin. For the main course, I ordered the rib-in bone eye and added the duck foie gras (which is offered with their filet mignon) with a side of the tomatoe salad. Everything melted like butter in the mouth and was delectable. Perfectly cooked to medium rare. An excellent experience if you are willing to drop over 100 euro per person.

I left feeling like I should have been rolled out. The wine list is extensive but personally it lacks some niche offerings at better prices that you might see in places like Chapter One. The salmon trio starter was OK. It was simply smoked salmon on a pancake. The bread they serve is outstanding so it's a balance. The steak was cooked to perfection and served with enough sides to feed a hungry family. Desert was light and vert tasty but my Americano had reached temperature to be found on the sun. Servers was efficient and a little stuffy but for me it was fine. . Bring the credit card or carry allot if euros for this experience.

Came here for my birthday meal. We chose a glass of Sancerre each. For starters I had the Caesar Salad. Huge portion size. Lovely dressing. They brought out a bread basket which included a cornbread and chilli muffin and a cheese and onion bread. Soooo moreish!! For my main course I chose the petit filet steak which was cooked to perfection. The mains came with a giant portion of crispy onion strings, creamed spinach and potato. For dessert I went for cookies and cream cheesecake. So so good! The staff are exceptional. We ate in the dining room on the ground floor. It's a beautiful. Comfortable chairs in a fabulous Georgian building. Can't think of a more perfect spot for a special occasion.

I have walked by Shanahan's nearly every day for 15 years and I have always dreamed of eating here. Shanahan's is stunning, we had a window seat overlooking the Green which was perfect for people watching. The staff were professional, not friendly or engaging which was disappointing. The wine list is extensive! We ordered a bottle of the Single Valley Lot Grand reserva red wine. We started with delicious bread and muffin, scallops for starters and I ordered the pork shank after spying some guest's order. The pork shank was intimidating, I couldn't finish my main or my half of the side fries ordered. I was disappointed with the deconstructed apple tart wasn't great, the filo pastry was too crunchy. To summarise, Shanahan's didn't live up to the high expectation that I expected.

    At the oval office.

This is their second location after the original FX Buckley on Pembroke Street opened in the 1980s; but the Buckley family has been serving premium cuts of Irish beef since the 1600s! The restaurant's interior leans into rich, warm tones with dark woods, leather seating, an open kitchen, and an atmosphere that feels both refined and approachable. Make sure to check out the massive dry-aging fridge in the front of the space, where scarlet-hued meats are displayed through transparent glass panes. We made a reservation for 4 at 6:30pm on a Sunday night through OpenTable, and the restaurant was about half-full when we arrived, but filled up throughout the course of our meal. Our server immediately brought over a tray of their six cuts of meat (all 100% Irish and dry-aged for 28 days), including ribeye, striploin, filet, and variations on the bone. Additionally, there's chalkboard graphics on the wall with detailed descriptions of each cut, which was very helpful in our selection. All steaks are cooked in their signature Josper charcoal ovens, lending a lovely touch of smoky flavor. The menu reads "classic steakhouse", with plenty of different cuts and weights of steak, refined starters, plenty of sides, and a variety of options for non-beef-eaters. We also appreciated the fact that each steak comes with your choice of one of three sides (chips, mashed potatoes, or salad), as well as your choice of sauce (bernaise, bone marrow jus, garlic butter, or pepper sauce). Additionally, all steaks on the bone are served with crispy fried onions. Their wine list is highly lauded, with bottles from all around the world, and a master in-house sommelier. As two members of our party weren't too hungry, they split a Caesar Salad (€13) and the Free Range Chicken (€29) between them. The Caesar Salad was a fresh salad of lightly-dressed, crunchy romaine lettuce, topped with an almost snow-like shaved Parmesan, and Crowe's smoked bacon. The variety of textures and flavors made this a surprising hit. The chicken was tender and juicy, served with a rich truffle cream sauce and salted kohlrabi, as well as your choice of side (she chose the Sauteed Chestnut Mushrooms with Watercress, which were so tender that they cut like butter). While we found the portion of chicken to be a bit small, the ability to choose your own side (which are normally €7-8 on their own) was much appreciated. My brother opted for the 22oz Ribeye on the Bone (€90), which was a hefty portion of well-marbled ribeye on a dramatic tomahawk bone. It was cooked to a perfect medium-rare, with a signature reddish-pink center, and paired nicely with their sharp Pepper Sauce. His Beef Dripping Chips were thick-cut steak fries, with a delightfully crispy exterior, and a pillowy soft interior. Lastly, the fried onions tasted like an elevated version of French's Fried Onions (bringing back memories of Thanksgiving green bean casserole). I chose the 16oz Striploin on the Bone (€49.50) - one generally wouldn't associate the word "value" with a top-line steakhouse, yet this was truly a steal of a dish. Cooked to a perfect rare (cool red center) with a decent amount of marbling, yet still incredibly tender, this was one of the best steaks I've ever had. The bone marrow jus tasted like a rich gravy, yet not too decadent for the sumptuous steak. I chose the Organic Leaf Salad as a side, which was an assortment of mixed leaves, thin-shaved carrots and onions, and a tangy vinaigrette; I appreciated the lightness of the dressing when paired with the meat. We were so full from our generously-portioned entrees that we couldn't fathom ordering dessert, though some of their options were quite tempting (particularly their Bailey's Espresso Cheesecake). Additionally, their Sunday Roast (€29.50) is a much more affordable way to sample some of their Irish meat, though note that it's only served between 1-4pm on Sundays. If you're in the market for a proper steakhouse experience in Dublin with quality ingredients and thoughtful execution, looking no further than FX Buckley!

Such a change from the last experience a year ago…read more We had 8:30 PM reservations. Arrived around 8:10 and were told to wait at the bar. No problem, it's NYE, we can wait for out booked time. Less than 5 minutes later we were lead to a table, not even time to order a drink! We shared everything. Ordered cocktails to begin with. They were ok, two different old fashioned drinks. We tried to order bone marrow, scallops, tuna tataki and a Caesar salad as starters. They were already out of the bone marrow and scallops. It's a holiday, you know there are reservations... what?! Poor management and planning!! They recommended the lamb kidneys... never had them before, super gross. I'll never do that again. It smelled like urine! We ordered the burger and 14 oz sirloin to share, medium rare on the steak. Polenta fries, and mashed potatoes. The polenta fries were outstanding! The burger was delicious! Smokey flavor, it was great. It came with huge steak fries, I prefer shoestring. The steak was not tender. Had a better steak sandwich at the Morrison for lunch. All in all, I will not be going back nor recommending this place. The wine I ordered never arrived, our water was never refilled. In fact, after the food arrived, we never saw anyone again!! When the check came with an obligatory 12.5% tip I missed it and paid. Once I noticed, I flipped out!! This was the worst service ever!! I double check tipping culture in Ireland before I complain. 10% is good for good service and bad service is ok to leave zero tip. So I asked for it back. They gave me credit for the tip but not the tax on tip. Unimpressed. Won't go again.
