    Chop House Steak - Medium
    Milo D.

The steak itself seasoned perfectly and had a nice grill on the outside while still not overcooking the interior. The size of the cut was excellent and overall, a very nice steak. The reason they are only getting 4 instead of 5 stars, especially for Irish standards, is it was a little overcooked probably leaning towards medium-well instead of medium and it was a bit chewy. Overall though an excellent steak and I will definitely be back to try a different cut and probably medium-rare on the cooking. The fries were delicious by the way.

2nd dinner in Dublin was as good as the first. Came here our 2nd night with the cabbie getting lost twice. Settled in with some great gin based cocktails (fantastic gin menu here and all gins have different flavors profiles - not like floral/Forest English gin). My wife had the mozzarella salad and I had the gnocchi. So pillowy soft. Great sauce too. I had the ribeye and she had the lamb. The lamb came w a lamb shoulder croquette that she wouldn't share and touted as best bite she's had. My ribeye was delicious and cooked perfectly. Even the green beans were delicious with it. Loving Dublin food so far.

I was looking forward to trying this place and it ended up being my favorite dining experience in Dublin! When we first got there the place was pretty empty but it slowly filled up. The place was very cozy (there were pillows on the bench seats which was a cute addition). The menu was small but every dish sounded delicious. We started off with the pan seared king prawns and it was very satisfying! The sauce was so flavorful but not too heavy and the prawns were served with salad greens. I highly recommend trying this! Our waiter also brought out raw meat on a board so we could have a look at the night's selection. I had never seen such beautiful, bright red, fresh cuts of steak! It was a carnivore's dream! I was going to order the pork chops but after they brought that out, I got the 35 day dry-aged rib eye. One word: Wow!! I requested medium and it was a little on the rare side but still unbelievably juicy. I loved how it came with onion marmalade and your choice of sauce (pepper or bearnaise). The fries it came with were good but not the best fries I've ever had. Keep in mind the steak was so huge, I only ate about half. I was sad I had to leave the rest behind. We also had red wine although I forgot which one but it went great with the steak. Our server was friendly and the bathrooms were clean with lots of character. If I ever go back to Dublin, I will definitely come back.

Behold the fish and chips and pork belly!

The ambience of this place is very warm like you are visiting your aunt that is a great host. Inside, children were running up the stairs singing jingle bells. The waitress brought us complimentary bread. Water was served in sparking glass, there was a warm heater and rugby was playing on tv. We ordered the foi gras for appetizer, which was really sweet and rich. Then for the main course we had fish and chips and pork belly. The fish was a large size - about the size of "Wreck it Ralph's" fist deep fried in a crunchy batter. But the pork belly was the siZe of a cassette tape... But probably for good reason, since they bring it to you on a rock platter, with the fat still sizzling and the skin extra crispy. I'm Pinoy too and have an inherit ability to judge crispy pork! ( I love Filipino crispy pata! Nothing beats that! )

Formerly known as the Shelbourne House, the Chop House is a fairly new Gastropub in Ballsbridge. It has a nice, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The menu is short and concise, with your usual variety- chicken, steak, pork... with chips, bread or salad- but it's very well done. The food is tasty, I had the steak and it was yummy- well done with just a hint of pink just like I'd asked. The service was fast and the waiter polite. The food is a bit on the pricey side, but this is Ballsbridge after all. If you're looking for a good lunchtime option and fancy treating yourself to a nice meal in a relaxed atmosphere the Chop House is a good option.

Running the risk of appearing picky, I feel that a Yelper must voice their true opinion. My fillet was rather chewy, despite the fact that I ordered it medium rare; air conditioning seemed to have taken a vacation; billing a large group was rather a hassle. Classically, this would qualify as a restaurant that overpromises, but underdelivers. However, my friends mentioned that their meat was perfect, so perhaps I just ordered the "wrong" dish. Overall, I believe that this might have just been a one-time distress with regard to food and surroundings, which is why I would be happy to retry another time. Happy feasting.

Went there as a group of 6! Atmosphere: western, modern, candled, relaxed, but packed with locals from around D4. Food: generous portion of steak with different dips, & great crispy fires placed on a wooden board. Steak tastes amazing, i requested it to be cooked blue & it came blue. Wasn't that impressed with the starters, but if I go again I would get the scallops as the looked great. Drinks: red wine was great, good selection, but pricy Service: friendly, quick. The best part is when they show you all the meat cuts, so you know what you are ordering ... looked fancy Cost: €€€€32 euros for rib eye steak Location: D4 next to slattery's pub which is handy for a pre & post dinner drinks. Tip: make sure to make a booking as the place was full on a thursday night, and try to sit inside since you have a pub next door

OMG I died and went to cow heaven! The food is amazing here. If you want an absolutely amazing feast go eat here. The staff were a delight and I left super satisfied!

This is a steakhouse and a very good one at that! Let me start out by saying that I'm a bit of a meat snob. For the most part, I feel I can bbq a better steak than most restaurants. This place would definitely give me a run for my money. The waitress was very knowledgeable about wine and helped me and my wife pick out a great wine for our meals. The steak was extremely flavorful and cooked to perfection. For whatever reason this is something that most so called steakhouses have trouble with but not these guys. We also decided to split a dessert, the chocolate opera. It was delicious and well executed. I would have snapped a picture of it, but I couldn't wait to dig in. The wait staff was very attentive and hospitable. This restaurant is a little on the pricey side but well worth it if you're looking for a nice place to go. I would definitely come back!

I had very high expectations for our lunch here. This restaurant is quite well known in the area, michelin recommended and on the pricey side. You would expect really something quite special then wouldn't ya? It's a lovely spot, really classy and nicely decorated. We were seated upstairs where it was a bit more quiet than buzzy downstairs. Since we came with quite a large group we ordered of the set lunch menu - which was 3 course. When we arrived the breadbaskets were already on the table, 3 different types of really fresh bread...great start! The rest of the food...my goats cheese starter was nice, but just that. I mean, anyone can put some cheese on toast, sprinkle walnuts on top and put a bunch of rocket on the side. (pet peeve of mine: most awkwardly difficult thing to eat : a mountain of rocket.) The hake cassoulet looked picture perfect. It came with chorizo bits, broccoli, beans, spinach and a tomato-y, spicy broth. My fish was a bit overcooked and hence slightly dry. The cassoulet itself tasted as if it hadn't been cooked long enough....the veggies were still quite crunchy, but a proper cassoulet should be melt in the mouth and tender. It's rare that I wouldn't finish a maincourse...it just didn't do it for me. The highlight was the dessert. a lovely light orange sponge cake with mascarpone on top. I could have had another portion of just that. Most of my fellow diners ordered the steak, which was a massive cut and looked quite impressive. However, when I looked around me no-one finished theirs and it seemed most cuts had lots of gristly bits in it. Overall, quite a disappointment. I think for the prices they charge, you should expect something better than average. Had a nice afternoon though, and I would prefer to give it 3.5 stars Top marks for the staff by the way. They were really efficient and friendly!!

It's interesting to me that The Chop House is referred to as a Gastro Pub because it really takes what you may consider as pub food and brings it to a different level. We came here after seeing this place featured on Anthony Bourdain's show The Layover and wanted to give it a try. We made reservations which is recommended as they get busy as the night progresses. We were greeted and seated immediately. Our server brought us water and bread and shared the daily specials. My husband ordered the prime ribeye (dry aged 35 days) and I chose the lamb special. We also decided to take a break from beer and ordered glasses of tempernillo wine which was delicious. The food was very good and the presentation was beautiful. My plate looked too pretty to eat, but I took one for the team. The lamb was cooked perfectly and the vegetables had great flavor. My husband enjoyed his prime rib too; he said it was a well made and flavorful. Service was very good throughout our meal. Our server made sure we had what we needed and we were well take care off. The meal here is on the expensive side but I would recommend it if you're in Dublin and want to experience a different take on Irish cuisine.

How things have changed since our first visit to The Chophouse and it makes me wonder if there is a correlation between an improving economy and a deterioration in service. We arrived 20 min early and were seated at a table that had not been cleaned off properly, considering this was 5.45 and the place was not busy with loads of tables i thought this odd. I had to ask for the table to be wiped down. This set the tone for the rest of the evening. The Chophouse must have shares in blackboards and chalk as they have at least 5 boards dotted around the walls telling you the specials, the cocktails, the cheeses, the craft beers, the gin cocktails and so on. I was dizzy scanning around the room trying to locate them. Is there really a need for this? Would a single specials board not suffice and then update the other menus accordingly? So its time now to place our order, the specials were not explained and our waitress curtly said "what do you want to eat"? Is this how food orders are now taken? We order the tuna starter and the fishboard. Both starters were good. The steak was ordered medium rare and arrived as ordered sitting on the same wooden board we had experienced before. The fish and chips was just OK, the tempura batter a little soggy in places. For desert we had assiette of chocolate which compromised of chocolate mousse, chocolate and hazelnut brownie and a chocolate raspberry opera. This was by far the best thing we had eaten. I had a espresso martini which was wonderful. I get the impression that there are regular customers and they for sure experienced a better service than we secured which is great for them but I certainly would not want to come back again. We shouldn't have returned and we wouldn't have tarnished what was a wonderful first visit with great service with this unpolished, unprofessional and mediocre experience. I hope this is not a case of good reviews corrupt and rave reviews have corrupted absolutely, I won't be giving this place another try to find out.

What do yis want to eat?! Yes that is how the waitress at The Chophouse addressed us when she came to take our order!!! After about two years since our last visit we decided to return to The Chophouse when my fiancé's brother came to stay with us for the weekend. I don't know if I had rose tinted memories of my last visit but I found this trip to be very hit and miss.. We arrived about 20 minutes early for our table but as the place was practically empty it wasn't an issue. The specials are up on a blackboard. In fact there's more info on the blackboards dotted around than on the above menus. The bread that was brought to the table was good. So we were asked what we wanted to eat. I chose the rare yellow fin tuna. Fiancé and his brother decided to share the fish board. For main course I chose the 8oz fillet of Hereford Beef. I asked for Bearnaise sauce and ended up having my sides changed from the standard gratin potato and spinach and garlic cream to chips, caramelised onions & green beans. I won't complain about that as I don't actually like potato and the lads got to eat the chips. Fiancé chose the fish and chips and his brother went with the ribeye. In case your wondering the sauce on my board was pepper not Bearnaise but that was easily swapped over! For dessert I chose the Asiette of chocolate (chocolate raspberry opera, chocolate hazelnut brownie @ chocolate mousse) with an americano. Fiancé had an espresso martini and his brother tried the poitin smash. OK so the food is great. The service not so much. I assume they're mental busy when there's games on at Aviva but they weren't that busy at that hour (and the rugby game was away that day!) We were brought to our table. It had been reset from the last sitting but not wiped down. We had to ask for the table to be wiped and it was done half arsed. They wiped one half of the table down and left the glass marks on the other half of the table! Other tables were brought a board with all the various cuts of beef and these were explained. I mean I know steak but I assume that that is part of the experience if you decide to visit here. I could be wrong but it seemed to me that if you were a regular you got a lot of attention from the wait staff. That sort of attitude would hardly encourage me to return. Especially when it's not in the centre of the city and there are plenty of other places to try.

This is their second location after the original FX Buckley on Pembroke Street opened in the 1980s; but the Buckley family has been serving premium cuts of Irish beef since the 1600s! The restaurant's interior leans into rich, warm tones with dark woods, leather seating, an open kitchen, and an atmosphere that feels both refined and approachable. Make sure to check out the massive dry-aging fridge in the front of the space, where scarlet-hued meats are displayed through transparent glass panes. We made a reservation for 4 at 6:30pm on a Sunday night through OpenTable, and the restaurant was about half-full when we arrived, but filled up throughout the course of our meal. Our server immediately brought over a tray of their six cuts of meat (all 100% Irish and dry-aged for 28 days), including ribeye, striploin, filet, and variations on the bone. Additionally, there's chalkboard graphics on the wall with detailed descriptions of each cut, which was very helpful in our selection. All steaks are cooked in their signature Josper charcoal ovens, lending a lovely touch of smoky flavor. The menu reads "classic steakhouse", with plenty of different cuts and weights of steak, refined starters, plenty of sides, and a variety of options for non-beef-eaters. We also appreciated the fact that each steak comes with your choice of one of three sides (chips, mashed potatoes, or salad), as well as your choice of sauce (bernaise, bone marrow jus, garlic butter, or pepper sauce). Additionally, all steaks on the bone are served with crispy fried onions. Their wine list is highly lauded, with bottles from all around the world, and a master in-house sommelier. As two members of our party weren't too hungry, they split a Caesar Salad (€13) and the Free Range Chicken (€29) between them. The Caesar Salad was a fresh salad of lightly-dressed, crunchy romaine lettuce, topped with an almost snow-like shaved Parmesan, and Crowe's smoked bacon. The variety of textures and flavors made this a surprising hit. The chicken was tender and juicy, served with a rich truffle cream sauce and salted kohlrabi, as well as your choice of side (she chose the Sauteed Chestnut Mushrooms with Watercress, which were so tender that they cut like butter). While we found the portion of chicken to be a bit small, the ability to choose your own side (which are normally €7-8 on their own) was much appreciated. My brother opted for the 22oz Ribeye on the Bone (€90), which was a hefty portion of well-marbled ribeye on a dramatic tomahawk bone. It was cooked to a perfect medium-rare, with a signature reddish-pink center, and paired nicely with their sharp Pepper Sauce. His Beef Dripping Chips were thick-cut steak fries, with a delightfully crispy exterior, and a pillowy soft interior. Lastly, the fried onions tasted like an elevated version of French's Fried Onions (bringing back memories of Thanksgiving green bean casserole). I chose the 16oz Striploin on the Bone (€49.50) - one generally wouldn't associate the word "value" with a top-line steakhouse, yet this was truly a steal of a dish. Cooked to a perfect rare (cool red center) with a decent amount of marbling, yet still incredibly tender, this was one of the best steaks I've ever had. The bone marrow jus tasted like a rich gravy, yet not too decadent for the sumptuous steak. I chose the Organic Leaf Salad as a side, which was an assortment of mixed leaves, thin-shaved carrots and onions, and a tangy vinaigrette; I appreciated the lightness of the dressing when paired with the meat. We were so full from our generously-portioned entrees that we couldn't fathom ordering dessert, though some of their options were quite tempting (particularly their Bailey's Espresso Cheesecake). Additionally, their Sunday Roast (€29.50) is a much more affordable way to sample some of their Irish meat, though note that it's only served between 1-4pm on Sundays. If you're in the market for a proper steakhouse experience in Dublin with quality ingredients and thoughtful execution, looking no further than FX Buckley!

No problem, it's NYE, we can wait for out booked time. Less than 5 minutes later we were lead to a table, not even time to order a drink! We shared everything. Ordered cocktails to begin with. They were ok, two different old fashioned drinks. We tried to order bone marrow, scallops, tuna tataki and a Caesar salad as starters. They were already out of the bone marrow and scallops. It's a holiday, you know there are reservations... what?! Poor management and planning!! They recommended the lamb kidneys... never had them before, super gross. I'll never do that again. It smelled like urine! We ordered the burger and 14 oz sirloin to share, medium rare on the steak. Polenta fries, and mashed potatoes. The polenta fries were outstanding! The burger was delicious! Smokey flavor, it was great. It came with huge steak fries, I prefer shoestring. The steak was not tender. Had a better steak sandwich at the Morrison for lunch. All in all, I will not be going back nor recommending this place. The wine I ordered never arrived, our water was never refilled. In fact, after the food arrived, we never saw anyone again!! When the check came with an obligatory 12.5% tip I missed it and paid. Once I noticed, I flipped out!! This was the worst service ever!! I double check tipping culture in Ireland before I complain. 10% is good for good service and bad service is ok to leave zero tip. So I asked for it back. They gave me credit for the tip but not the tax on tip. Unimpressed. Won't go again.

We arrived early in the afternoon, and once the restaurant opened, we were provided with free smells of wonderfully cooking beef. Our plans were to go explore Kilkenny, looking for a place to eat, as the Butcher did not have any available seats. As l've done with other cities around Scotland and Ireland, I walked in, asked Camila if there were any seats available for four, she said we have one available right now. I scurried back and got the rest of the crew, and we were provided with a wonderful meal. We all chose the daily special, which was a 12 ounce ribeye, which we shared between each couple. We also added in salads, as well as grilled vegetables and sautéed mushrooms. All aspects of the meal were really good. I don't recall the name of the server, but he was very good, along with everybody else on the team who were always paying attention, and provided you with anything you needed at a moment's notice.
