I've been coming to this restaurant for years (more than 6) with my family to celebrate me and wife's aniversary on Christmas day, but yesterday we were more than the amonut of people that use to come and we went to the site as every year, but I didnt made any reservation, so I call the manager on my way to the restaurant since my wife and my kids were at the restaurant already and he explained me that the restaurant was so crowded because of Christmas day, but after some explanations he made space for me and my whole family understanding that I'm a faithful customer. what happened?! the quality of F&J Pines has plummeted beyond belief. I've gotten sour tomato's, slimy lemons, chicken nuggets that had an awful texture (chewy, gelatinous, old, soggy calamari that had an odd translucent film that detached from the ring, salty Veal cordon-blue etc. cleary I've tried to write off each fail as "maybe an off day" but after today.....I doubt I'll be coming back here. The new management and new host / matre'd is an absolute jerk. He spoke to me in a condescending tone thinking that I didn't understand him. They apparently accept reservations for any size party without a limit starting at 2 people, in the past it was for parties of 6 or more. This jerk felt the need to give an explanation on how reservations and walk-ins work because I have a group of 4 people. I'd drive by this place every so often so I figure let me stop in and grab some dinner, must say the appearance is beautiful and they are applying covid rules with having staff wear face mask and keeping it social distancing with the table layout as you dine indoors. I like the idea they have a temperature scan at the door but what threw me off was having the paper menus instead of the barcode menu which some restaurants have to prevent spread of covid or germs. So I ordered the chicken parmigiana with spaghetti pasta with olive oil and garlic, I believe the portions were decent but didn't expect to get a smaller plate for a side because I'm so use to a family style pasta with the big bowls but this wasn't as bad. The waiter mention I'd have to order 2 sides to get a bigger portion of pasta, I'd also like to note the chicken parmigiana could of had a bit more of a taste to it. Personally it wasn't worse taste but wasn't all that great, The garlic bread with cheese was pretty good as well and the overall experience was good. Very beautifully decorated Italian restaurant! I loved the old school Italian pieces mixed with the NY Yankees memorabilia. I ordered the fettuccini Alfredo with broccoli and grilled chicken. Grilled chicken was great, broccoli was on point (I mean you can't mess up broccoli) the fettuccini was cooked perfectly. The Alfredo sauce was a little thin, if you like it that way then this is perfect for you (I like a creamier sauce)... but I thought it was delicious. Huge portions! I ate about less than half and I was beyond full! I only gave it 4 stars because my bf ordered the chicken parm and although he liked it, he's been here a hundred times and said that it was a little off. Ate here 10 years ago.. food was great. Ate here recently (last week) and it was just below average. Side note: menus were gross and falling apart- the waiter even laughed at this. Side side note: my husband had Chilean sea bass and was violently throwing up ALL night. (Gross). We contemplated going to the hospital but decided against it and called the doctor instead. Pasta is not homemade - clearly from a box.. veal was extremely tough.. (so tough that I almost choked on it).. Marsala sauce was like a bad grown gravy. Ordered a single espresso, was brought a double.. when I stated I only ordered a single the waiter argued that I said double.. ok. Got charged for it anyway and didn't even order a double. Baked clams were ALL breadcrumbs.. barely any clam. :( it's a shame this place is in the Morris Park section - typically known for its Italian food. Called in to inquire about reservations and table availability, was told by host on the phone that it was first come first serve and to just come in, was rude on the phone to us. Went to F & J today with my two kids and experienced terrible service-maybe even racism. Walked in and it was relatively empty for a Saturday (I've been here a few times). I told the hostess there were three of us and he asked us to wait while he got a table set up. Then a group of 4 walked in (two adults to kids) and a group of three (two adults and one kids) walked in and were seated Immediately! This is all while he's fielding request from a woman. With a birthday cake and arranging guys to come help her get stuff from her taxi- so no lack of multi tasking here. The groups were white and me and my children are black. I have been coming to this restaurant for 10+ years. I've been here on dates, family birthdays, girls night, and solo dates. This place is GREAT! From the greeters, to the waiters, to the food, and overall ambience! We celebrated two of my grandmas birthdays at F&J Pine, her 90th birthday and her 94th. For her 94th we rented one of their private dining rooms/venues and the service/food/drinks was nothing short of amazing. Some dishes I would recommend are as follows: Parmigiana with Chicken - my son's fave, Parmigiana with Veal - my mom's fave, Chop House Trio: Pork Chop, Filet Mignon, Lamb Chops - my dad's fave, Fettuccine Alfredo with Shrimp, Crab Meat and Bay Scallops - my sister's fave, Pasta Primavera - my vegan hubby's fave, the Wild Mushroom Risotto - my sis in law's fave, the Filet Mignon - my baby brother and older brothers' fave. Finally, I would not recommend the shrimp scampi as I was disappointed I asked if I can replace it but that is not allowed. But they said they can remake it which I opted for. Unfortunately, it was worse than when they initially served it. As far as my faves: I'm a basic chick So, the Fettuccine Alfredo with grilled chicken (will be a forever fave), my 2nd fave is the Penne Alla Vodka with grilled chicken, and my absolute fave is the basket of bread that's brought out when seated, it's fresh, warm, and just yummers! I use to love their carrot cake but they no longer have it on the menu. Use to come here all the time when we lived in the Bronx. We got invited to a family event in one of the private party rooms and we were reminded of why we frequented so much in the past. We had forgotten how good their food was! We had drinks by the bar before the room was ready and the service and drinks were made very well. I remember this restaurant years ago when I came here with my grandparents! While the decor and space has changed over the years, the food is consistently excellent! Went here yesterday 5/13 with a group of about 18 people. Luckily we had a reservation and were seated almost immediately upon arrival. The restaurant itself was very clean and the staff very friendly considering it was extremely packed and busy. The ambiance of the restaurant was very friendly and homelike. Once we sat down the waiter brought over free bread as well as salads for everyone which were delicious. I ordered the pasta as well as the pizza which were both super delicious. Highly recommend sharing meals, they give huge portions of food which is great you definitely get your money's worth. I was pleased to see that Covid protocols were followed here. All staff wore masks, and we were asked to show vax cards prior to seating.. Plexiglass shields have been added between tables since my last visit a few years back. This place doesn't nickel and dime you. Hearty salad with olives, bread and olive oil are complimentary. We started out with a huge order of muscles. They were plump, tender and piled above a delicious tomato sauce. The portion was so generous that two hungry people struggled to finish them, what with dunking our bread in the yummy sauce. The Sangria was nice too. We then enjoyed escarole and bean soup, great and enough for two days. I had chicken Marsala with mushrooms. The chicken was tender and the mushrooms and sauce was flavorful. Once again, huge portions. I had plenty to enjoy at home the following day. Our service was friendly and cheerful, and my water glass kept getting refilled. In addition to the waiter checking on us, an owner stopped by to make sure we were happy. Our leftovers were packed quickly and cheerfully. The atmosphere was upbeat at the Pines, as several groups were enjoying birthday celebrations and everywhere you looked people seemed to be having a great time.. The bathrooms were clean and modern. The manager asked us how we did on the way out and the valet parking was quick and courteous . Came here with my husband, mom, and aunt. Place was very clean and very big. They gave us warm bread and butter, and a roasted eggplant, roasted peppers, and bean mix on top of delicious home made charred bread. This was absolutely delicious. I mean really really tasty. I ordered prime burger. Cooked to perfection and very juicy. Pretty big too. I got the seafood bisque to go with it. The soup was creamy, a little sweet from the lobster, and had the right amount of seasonings. It was very good. My mom enjoyed her mushroom burger loaded with veggies and sweet potato fries. Been coming to this place for years. Started as a casual brunch day with friends back in 2005. Over the yrs, turned into my godson's baptism dinner, a night at the bar, dinner with friends etc. Best part for me was the venue they created for party rentals. Celebrated my dad's birthday and it was great. Food and service were perfect. Dominique was the best help in planning the entire thing. Had moved away and didn't go there for awhile but friends and family Still did. I recently went for a friends birthday and the venue is bigger now.
