While my actual eye exam was fine and the doctor was very nice, the hairy, shedding dog lounging on his dog bed at the front of the office was not. I found the smell of the place to be extremely unprofessional. You may chalk this up to the fact that I'm not an animal person. Nope. If it had been a crying, pooping baby in a crib right next to the eyeglasses display I wouldn't be enthused either. In addition, they only take cash or check. No credit cards. Being without $50 in my pocket, I had to drop off the cash the next day. I suggested that they mention this to patients when they make their appointments, and it was agreed that it was a good idea. I bought glasses in January 2020. They broke. He does not answer his phone and his website has an incorrect email so email was returned. It won't matter to anyone out there as I am sure he isn't taking new patients. I just wish I knew what to do. read more

I actually feel really terrible writing this review since I really, really like Dr. Troppauer....but unfortunately we just cannot continue to be his patients. Last July, my then fiance and I needed a new Optometrist since the last guy was an absolute QUACK! (See my review for Dr. Scott Page. BEWARE) So, we checked out our insurances website and yelp to help us find the best possible local option. When we called to inquire about accepting new patients, Dr. Troppauer was eager to accommodate our difficult schedules and stay late so that we could come in after work. It all seemed great! When we got there, the place was a little run down but that didn't bother us too much. We had told him we were interested in getting the lenses replaced in both of our existing frames (since they were still in good shape) and that my fiance was interested in contacts. He gave us an exam and told us the price (with insurance) was going to be $300. Then he told us he only takes cash and check. Unfortunately, we didn't have that much on us so he waited while we went to the ATM. I didn't have a good feeling about it then and I wish I had listened to my gut.... Reluctantly, we handed over the cash...and had to request a receipt--which really isn't a receipt at all. Just a piece of paper that says $300 on it. Very strange. Anyway--the Dr. told us he was having open heart surgery the following week and that getting our lenses and contacts would be delayed. We weren't in a rush so we obliged. When he returned to work from his surgery he called us to tell us our glasses were ready and he had some sample contacts. Well...let me save you the trouble of the long version of this story and tell you that we have been back and forth to Dr. Troppauer's 10 times in 6 months. YES, 10. I wish I could say that the 10th time was the charm, but sadly both of our glasses have the wrong prescriptions in them and Scott has never received contacts. Dr. Troppauer has given us multiple eye exams and has never been able to get either prescription correct. Neither of us have complicated prescriptions so we're not really sure what the problem is. After the 3rd lens replacement, he offered to put some upgraded coating on the lenses. Unfortunately, this deteriorated within 1 week and now the lenses are completely useless. Both of our expensive frames have been ruined and we still don't know our prescriptions. It sucks because we know he wasn't ever doing any of this on purpose (I'm sure he was tired of us, too!) but literally we were never able to see out of the lenses he was giving to us. I have no idea what the problem is but at this point we have exhausted our efforts and have decided to move on. Such a huge disappointment. We literally paid $300 to have somebody ruin our glasses. read more

I would not recommend this place to anyone. He only takes cash or check. When I handed over the cash I never got a receipt. I had a feeling that I had over-payed on top of what my insurance covers. I called my insurance company and they told me that I had been over charged by $50. I called him to get the money back and he suggested that I order my contacts through him instead of just giving me the cash back. (I wanted to get my contacts online since its cheaper that way and he forced me to give him the business) On top of that when my prescription came back it was wrong and he blamed it on the contact compant (right!). To this day I am still having issues with my contacts. They are definitely not the correct prescription and I am just waiting until the year is up so I can go see another place. This guy is SHADY and just an all around weird dude. Dont go to him read more

Dr. Bill is great, and he has a nice selection of frames. He also takes Keystone. Yeah, the dog was very old and sick and he didn't want to leave it alone. It has since passed so that is no longer an issue. read more

There was an issue with the delivery for my glasses and Dr. Bill worked everything out and made sure I was a happy customer in the end! Dr. Tropphauer is amazing. I had a lot of trouble with bad prescriptions ( I am VERY nearsighted) and he sorted out my prescription right away. Then- because I can never see why I am trying on- he was nice enough to let me photograph myself in a few styles. Then he picked a great pari that I would normally have looked at. I think he has a great sense of style but he REALLY knows his stuff when it comes to making glasses. He is very experienced and knowledgeable. read more

I have been going here for years because he came up on my insurance provider list. Ok at first I did find it strange that he only took cash or check (yes I listened to his credit card experience "story") and assumed ok maybe the prices would be cheaper because he is obviously skimming for tax purposes, so I continued along, I took my children there and they have continued to go as adults.. well until we got wise and started noticing things. First and foremost between my one daughter and I our prescriptions were notable incorrect and that is just the ones we have noticed. I haven't seen completely well ever since I have needed glasses as I age. My daughter went to another doctor to sure enough find out her prescription was incorrect as well. She call Eyeworks Plus and they told her they would fix the issue. She called a week or so later to see if they were in yet and well they lost her frames and told her she could pick another pair. In the meantime her frames were found, she picked them up and SHE STILL CANNOT SEE OUT OF HER GLASSES BECAUSE THE PRESCRIPTION IS MORE THAN LIKELY WRONG AGAIN and she is too frustrated to go back to him and be belittled by his nonsense. Also as another reviewer stated .. none of the frames have prices and there is a reason for that. Oh yes he will say "I am giving you a really good price on these".. yes really good for him. I have looked up frames previously purchased through him and ones I currently have and each pair is $50.00 to $60.00 cheaper online (exact same frames). In conclusion if you are like me and just pick him because he is local and takes your insurance - well I would drive 20 minutes out of my way to a more knowledgeable and honest doctor before I would be taken advantage of again. read more
