I scheduled a routine eye exam and upon checkout was charged $130 for a "contact lens exam" in addition to my routine eye exam that was covered by insurance. The extra exam fee was never disclosed and when I tried to advocate for myself (which I always find so awkward and uncomfortable and something I've had to actively practice throughout my life to gain courage to do) I was told I wouldn't be able to order any new contacts without paying this fee and getting an updated prescription. I felt like I was getting fear mongered and taken advantage of and it was awful. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else, in fact I called several other eye doctors on the same street and got a quote for $40 for a contact lens exam. Dr. James Hall has been our family optometrist for several years now. We have found him to be friendly, professional, thorough and responsive. In recent years, my arms have become a bit short, and rather than sell me bifocals, he introduced me to monvision contacts which I adore. The office is clean and bright, with a nice array of frames to browse among. His staff are always friendly and helpful. They also have no problem using your existing frames or fitting glass to other frames. Faithful Dining Companion got frames from Warby Parker and Dr. Hall's office ordered the lenses to fit without a problem. There are some metered spots on the street in front of the business as well as a metered lot in the rear. I would highly recommend them as a professional, competent and friendly practice. read more

I came here for the first time with my mom and my 19 month old daughter yesterday, and we all had such a pleasant experience. My mom got her eye exam by Dr Hall and she only had positive things to say about him. According to her, Dr Hall was very knowledgeable, professional, and even took interest in her Diabetes and its potential impact on her eyesight. Afterwards, she spent a lot of time with Sherry to pick out her new frames. She must have tried on at least 25 frames and Sherry was so helpful and patient with the entire process. Ultimately, she chose one of the frames that Sherry picked out, because they suited her the best. During the discussion of payment, Sherry was not pushy on selling anything extra. The lady at the front desk was very kind and understanding about my little curious toddler taking an interest in everything around her and walking all around the store. When I called to make an appointment for my mom, she was actually the one to ask if my mom was medicare eligible (which she is and I hadn't thought about), and reminded us to bring the card with us. Businesses on the main line are all reputable, so I didn't expect anything less but it's still worth noting! My husband and I will be back! read more

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE HAVING ANY EYE PROBLEMS. GO TO AN OPHTHALMOLOGIST!!! NOT THIS OPTOMETRIST!!! I went to Ardmore Eye Care where I've been a customer for more than 25 years for a routine exam and "Dr." Hall was unable to get a clear reading in my right eye. After numerous testing and several visits he determined that no physical problems were present in my eyes even though I told him many times that I was having problems seeing and reading with my right eye. I was very hesitant about getting new glasses but was assured they were needed. I picked up the eyeglasses and made numerous failed attempts to wear them. I continued to return to Ardmore Eye Care several times for testing and readings and he still could not pinpoint any problems with my right eye even though the readings were all over the place and completely different with each visit. These visits were an attempt to try to determine correcting the prescription in the new glasses. All to no avail! I informed him that I would be going to an eye surgeon for another opinion. The eye surgeon determined I have a cataract in both eyes and that the one in my right eye is seriously impairing my vision and that I should NOT do anything as far as obtaining ANY lenses. I'm quite annoyed that he did not discover this problem and proceeded accordingly especially in light of the fact that he had me get new eyeglasses when I kept telling him many times I couldn't see clearly out of my right eye! If surgery is performed, eyeglasses will probably NOT be needed! To this day I don't understand how he was unable to detect the cataract because I told him so many times I couldn't see clearly out of my right eye! I knew something had to be causing this severe impairment! After my exam with the eye surgeon I contacted "Dr." Hall about getting a refund for the eyeglasses which he never told me HIMSELF he would not do! The eyeglasses have never been worn and I offered to return them! No response from him. I don't feel I should have to pay all this money because of his misdiagnosis numerous times about the cataracts in both my eyes. I have never felt comfortable from the beginning with him having me order eyeglasses when I couldn't see clearly out of my right eye. My eyesight continues to diminish causing my eyesight in my right eye to worsen! After I reached out directly to him about getting a refund instead of dealing with me directly he passed me on to SHERRY BERRY, the optician, who acted in such an obnoxious and abhorrent manner to me!!! In my whole life I have NEVER been so RUDELY treated by anyone in the service industry and for that matter ANYWHERE else! She absolutely went BALLISTIC on me over the phone with no provocation on my part! I never responded to her behavior because I wouldn't lower myself to such a level! I remained calm and silent during her rants! I explained to SHERRY that the surgeon told me my situation is complicated because of the problems surgery in my right eye would cause to the sight in my left eye. All she kept saying is "That doesn't make any sense!!!" She said "All he has to do is operate and put a lens in your eye!!!" I know how cataract surgery works! She kept questioning the surgeon's diagnosis! She doesn't have a medical degree! She's only an optician! She was yelling and carrying on and was so disrespectful to me as a person let alone her "senior"! Treating me as if I'm stupid! I kept my temper in check so her carrying on wouldn't get any worse! She was extremely upsetting to me! Then out of nowhere she brings up the subject of the refund which I tried to pursue with "Dr." Hall not HER! She started yelling again, "What do you expect us to do with the glasses"? "Throw them in the trash"! Where is it her place to speak on his behalf about the refund! She's not the owner! He didn't want to take responsibility for the problem so he passed it along to his obnoxious optician! She told me they would refit the lenses as a "courtesy to me"! A courtesy??!! I shouldn't have been talked into getting the glasses in the first place I told her several times I'm still under the surgeon's care and might not need lenses! "Dr." Hall should not have refused to give me a refund on glasses I'll never be able to wear because he misdiagnosed me so many times about the cataract and how much it's impairing my vision! He should be embarrassed and ashamed of having someone in his employ who would speak to a customer like SHERRY did. In today's environment I don'tknow of any employer who would tolerate such behavior especially in the service industry! She would have been severely reprimanded or let go by that employer! "DR." I was with another eye doctor for years who could not get my contact lens prescription right--which left me disappointed and pessimistic about the possibility of wearing lenses again. Anyway, Dr. Hall saw me on three different occasions (without extra charge) and kept changing the prescription until he had it exactly correct. And that's exactly what I needed to solve the problem. I live in South Carolina and am visiting Ardmore on business. Earlier this morning, I tripped while holding my glasses in my hand and I bent my frame so bad that they were unusable. I was walking along Lancaster to get lunch and spotted Ardmore Eye Care. I walked in and explained to Dana what I had done and asked if she could help me. DANA is THE BOMB!! I've been to a lot of opticians in my life, because of some inborn problems with my eyes, and I've talked to many opticians and optometrists about the scientific part of what they do (I'm a scientist so like the discussions!) I haven't met many of those that seem to know as much as Dr. Hall does. You can tell that he knows his calling very well, had absolutely no problems getting me the prescriptions that I wanted and needed, and had a lot to say about some conditions that have never been diagnosed before in my eyes. The last doctor i went to had a difficult time just designing some simple up close work glasses for me, but Dr. Hall was able to do it without a question. I'm definitely going to be keeping this doctor for as long as I'm in the area. His staff are also very helpful and friendly, and know their business. The ladies at the desk were nice, and helped to discover that they took my vision plan. However, I didn't connect with any of the frames there.
