It's been a couple of years since I reviewed Dr Putterman, but my experience over the last few weeks makes me want to reiterate how amazingly generous, kind, and dedicated he is to his career and his patients. I missed an annual exam, and had to wait til my next period of eligibility. When I went to schedule the new exam and get new contacts a few weeks ago (i usually buy a couple years' worth) we discovered that my scrip had actually expired! Despite this, Dr Putterman gave me a free pair to last me until my exam this morning. This morning: first of all, i got stuck in traffic and called to let them know I'd be 10 minutes late-- they didn't mind at all! Then Dr. P took me back the very MINUTE i walked in! the exam revealed that my scrip had changed somewhat and that I now require a slightly larger contact lens for my right eye. Because he did not have any of the new scrip lenses on hand, he ordered me a TRIAL lens and then gave me another free pair of contacts in my old scrip to last me until the trial lens comes in. Did I mention that the only thing I had to pay for was the visit?!?!? The best thing about Dr Putterman and his office is that they are friendly, happy people who make a visit seem almost fun. The nurses laugh and joke with you, (and give great recommendations for lunch) and Dr. P remembers you and the personal details you may (even incidentally) share with him. I just wish I could find a dentist who was like him. read more

I live in roxborough and prefer to support local independent businesses. Prior to my initial visit to Dr. Putterman's office I used another local independent eye doctor (whom I won't mention here.) Although I have written a review on that doc as well (1 star) You can easily access a business upon first entering its doors and facing the staff. Dr. Putterman's staff is efficient, professional and very personable. You can tell Dr. Putterman runs a tight ship and the office is clean, well lit and organized. Unlike the previous office I used to go to (did I mention I gave that place 1 star) You get the sense Dr. Putterman is dedicated to his profession and his patients. His energy and enthusiasm is infectious and it passes on to his staff. He fitted me with less expensive yet better contacts then I had with my previous doc and he also broke down my benefits which enabled me to add a funky pair of frames. As a small business owner It is more important than ever to encourage support towards local small business. Mediocrity, sameness and plain vanilla is what you settle for when you support large corporations. Dr. Putterman comes highly recommended. read more

I'd been going to an eye doctor in one of those "vision stores" in a mall for the past year and didn't realize I missed the personal touch of an optometrist with their own practice until I set foot in Dr. Putterman's office. I was warmly welcomed by him the second I came in and really felt like he cares about all of his patients, instead of them just being another conveyor belt customer coming in between shopping trips. (Plus, he's a fellow former New Yorker!) Also: When I first tried to make an appointment for a Saturday morning (11/2), there was no availability until two weeks later (11/16). The receptionist was kind enough to call me the week before my appointment letting me know there was an opening on 11/9 if I wanted it. I unfortunately already had plans, but I thought that was pretty awesome. What other doctor's office calls you to try and get you in earlier? Certainly not one I've ever been too! I was pretty much sold before I'd even walked in the door. To think I've been living in Roxborough for over 4 years now and this hidden gem was only blocks from house this whole time! read more

What a great experience here! I am new to the area and have always dealt with the chain companies (Pearle Vision, LensCrafters, etc) so I was skeptical to visit Dr. Putterman. Of course, the reviews on him were great so I decided to give it a shot. First experience- The girls at the front desk were having a hard time finding my insurance information in the system, but they diligently did what they could so that I could be seen as soon as possible. They were efficient and quick. Then, Dr. Putterman called me back in the exam room and got some basic information from me. I had a unique history with my glasses, so I made sure to inform him of everything that had previously occurred a year prior. He asked many questions to make sure that he knew exactly my scenario, which was great! The other docs I've seen just treated me like a number, but Dr. Putterman was kind and empathetic for my situation, which was so calming. He did the exam and then re-checked some things a few times before he sent me on my way. I have an astigmatism so he said "I just want to double check and triple check before I let you go- I want to make sure it's absolutely right!". He was incredibly kind and definitely knew what he was doing. I would recommend him to anyone new to the area or even a resident of Manayunk! I just had my first appointment with Dr. Putterman and his team for an annual check up. I recently moved to the area and was due for an eye appointment. They were absolutely amazing in every way. I am a teacher so scheduling appointments without taking off from work can be difficult. Dr. Putterman's office has later hours on Tuesdays and the receptionist was able to fit me in! I showed up for my appointment knowing that I would probably need a new prescription for contacts and glasses. I also had interest in looking for a pair of prescription sunglasses. I was in and out of the office in a half an hour with help from the amazing staff! I had my appointment and they helped me with everything I was looking for. Everyone was so pleasant and helpful the whole time. I would highly recommend scheduling an appointment with them if you live in the Roxborough/Manayunk area. read more

I've been going to him for 15 years (as he just reminded me of at my last exam) and would never consider going elsewhere. I moved to the area recently and just had my first appointment with Dr. Putterman. I've seen a lot of doctors over the years and Dr. Putterman is probably the nicest one I've ever encountered. He was super friendly and attentive. He was very knowledgeable about my pre-existing condition and answered all my questions/listened to my concerns. He was very thorough with his exam and even made the effort to get me set up with a specialist for additional testing. The entire staff was truly wonderful. I have been seen by Dr. Putterman for well over 15 years. My wife & our two sons have been by Dr. Putterman as well. Both my wife & I have worn glasses &/or contacts for well over 15 years. Dr. Putterman is professional, knowledgeable, thorough, enthusiastic, compassionate, communicative, calming, patient centered & kind. From the moment you set foot in their practice, he & his staff strive to provide the very best level of care. Any & all questions or concerns are addressed, not just brushed off, ignored or minimized. The practice is not one where people just do their jobs competently, showing courtesy & respect for their patients (meeting this standard would be a welcome improvement to a majority of other medical practices). Their entire team is welcoming & engaging; they do their best to meet the needs of each patient, often going beyond what can reasonably be expected. When you check in, receive your eye exam, get fitted for the correct lenses or contacts, spend time attempting to narrow down your choice of frames, consider alternative frame recommendations from staff, make your final decision & finally check out...you are the focus of care. Every member of Dr. Putterman's team strives to provide the best quality service possible for each person that comes through their door. Saying that they strive to provide the best service, doesn't quite capture the dynamic at work in this practice. Disney strives to provide excellent service, but Disney is very superficial. Dr. Putterman & his team provide excellent service because they care, because they genuinely desire to provide the very best service. This is because that's the kind of people that they are. The team doesn't provide quality care because they should, they provide quality care because that is their mission, because that is what they want to do. The heart of this practice IS THEIR CARE. If you find yourself needing to select frames, all of the staff are incredibly helpful & patient. Rochelle has an uncanny ability to find frames that I would never have considered, let alone selected. Rochelle is the Frame Whisperer; her ability to balance style, comfort & durability, is a much appreciated talent. Dr. Putterman & his team stand behind product performance expectations & warranties. They are helpful & available for any needed adjustments, repairs or replacements. Having worked in the field, I have a solid background in both the chain/retail optical and also in the private optical fields. I know good doctors and staff's. Dr. Putterman and his staff are, by far, among the best in the field. Appointments booking 2 months in advance? Wait. Wait to be examined by Dr. Putterman and have his staff help with your eyeglasses. Have children? I took all of my children here and will take them back. Prices? Appointments are easy to come by, he even has some evening hours. Takes my insurance which is also a plus. Office staff was friendly and accommodating. It was such a pleasant surprise! The most wonderful experience in a doctors office I have ever had. Very welcoming as soon as you walk in, very attentive and friendly. I was quite early for my appointment but I didn't have to wait at all! Dr. Putterman was so nice, I never felt more comfortable during an eye exam. He cares very much about his business, and it really does show; let me tell you; when was the last time you saw the doctor himself pick up the phone to answer patient questions?! I LOVE Dr Putterman...my husband had been going to them for 20+ years. (His father in law before but Dr Putterman for 10+ years). Myself and daugher for many years as well. During a routine exam I was having, I mentioned a problem my husband was having and without making me freak out, he asked me to call my husband and have him come in NOW. This was a day before Thanksgiving last year, in the evening but there was no way he was going to leave without examining my husband. The symptoms my husband was having sounded exactly like he retina may be detaching!! He examined my husband and determined it was not detaching but did send him to a retina specialist for further treatment. He is absolutely the BEST!!! read more

I've previously only ever been to franchised vision centers and, now that I've been to Dr. Putterman, I won't go back to one of those places. Friendly and inviting office atmosphere. Dr. Putterman was engaging, caring, and very down-to-earth. He even let me take a competing pair of contact lenses on a trial run to see what I preferred before I made an order. I just moved to the area a week ago and was looking for an optometrist. I decided to try Dr. Putterman because of his great Yelp reviews. I am writing this review after leaving the office literally 10 minutes ago: I tore my contacts early one morning and didnt have a backup pair. Dr. Putterman was able to fit my appointment in THAT SAME morning (a few hours after I called) and had my contacts in stock to give me (plus the free pair for me to wear out so I don't trip and fall on my way home). Dr. Putterman seems genuinely interested to get to know his clients, and is pleasant and entertaining during the exam. The exam was swift and professional. The amount of courtesy displayed by both Dr. Putterman and his staff was outstanding and rarely seen in the medical profession in this day and age. Without dragging this review out too long, I highly suggest this office. Professional friendly staff and Dr., reasonable prices, good experience. As long as I still live in the area, this is the office I will be coming to. read more

I went to Dr. Putterman's office after seeing a number of recommendations of their office on Facebook. Their customer service and quality care superseded the already wonderful recommendations I had seen. They squeezed me in when I had lost my glasses and needed new ones ASAP. Communication via phone was always clear and friendly. Eye examination by Dr. Putterman was thorough, well-explained, and painless. I needed a new eye Dr in the area and after reading reviews I decided to give Dr. Putterman a try. I'm so glad I did. He was kind and friendly. I felt like he took time to get to know me and what I needed. He also took an emergency call during my appt for another patient. While some people might feel that is not ok, it showed me that he is responsive to his patient's needs. The staff are so nice and helped me pick my perfect frames. He had a great selection!
