Getting new glasses is always very stressful for me. Picking out the right frame is like trying on bathing suits. Ugh! However the manager Demetrius was so helpful and guided my choices. I love the new look! Secondly, I've had trouble getting the right correction. I went to Lens Crafters THREE times and still they couldn't get it right. I'm sure they hated seeing me walk in the door. They were nice about it but ultimately they just gave me my $ back. I was anticipating the same at For Eyes but they got it right the first time! Wow! Staff very helpful and professional. I stopped by For Eyes this morning to see if they'd be able to replace a screw that had fallen out of my glasses. The store was running a little low on screws but the wonderful general manager Demetreus did everything possible to help with my issue. When I walked out of there I may not have had the perfect screw for my glasses but I had one that would work well enough for now and Demetrius has been trying to get the best fit with what was in the store all day, which I REALLY appreciated. At the moment, I can't speak for any of the products or other services For Eyes offers, but if you want folks who really care and want to help you get the best possible outcome with glasses, I'd highly recommend stopping in here. awful!!!!! I went for a new eye exam back in January. I had an eyeglass exam for glasses and contacts and explained to the doctor I purchase them online because it's much cheaper so all I needed was the script with my new prescription. I was very specific I did not use contacts But when I went to purchase glasses online my insurance was already used. I spoke To the manger and she said everything would be put back on my insurance and not to worry. A week goes by and nothing is changed. Now it's February and I still don't have glasses. I called and spoke to the manager again she said they will fill my prescription and not charge me anuthing extra if I ordered from them. So I chose the glasses the thin lenses and the light filtering. That was two weeks ago. When I called to see if they came in they told me there's an issue and the doctor wants to re-order!!!!! Unbelievabl. I had to call twice to speak to the Manager, she doesn't return my calls. It's March 7th and I still don't have new glasses. I cancelled everything and HOPE That I get my insurance back. Also I contacted the corporate number and they do not care. Do not go there! read more

It was my first time getting new glasses in a while, and I had no strong feelings about what I wanted in a pair. Kat, in particular, was incredibly friendly and she really took the time to help and find a style for me. The staff are very friendly. I was greeted as soon as I walked in the door. They are also very knowledgeable and helped me pick out glasses that fit my face shape. My current glasses get smudges from touching my cheek so often so when I told them that, they immediately picked out a few that were more oval than square and told me that these would work best for what I'm looking for. Then we looked for sunglasses. They gave me options for the lens tint and whether they would be polarized or not. It was very informative and I feel like I got the best help I could get. I highly recommend For Eyes if you're looking for a pair of new glasses in the Philadelphia area. I also checked out Philadelphia Eyeglasses Labs and America's Best Glasses & Contacts. I had my eyes checked elsewhere, so I can't comment on how the eye exam is here, but the employees here all seemed friendly and knowledgeable. One approached me right away when I entered to assist me, but also gave me the appropriate amount of space to try on different frames. As always, I compared prices at all 3 places. At Philly Eyeglasses Labs, the frames are quite expensive: The starting price is easily $189 and up, with lens costing $60/up. (If you want polycarbonate lens, which incorporate the anti-scratch, they start at $75 and up) At America's Best, the frames are just $60 and up but for the polycarbonate lens, the cost is $130. There's a generous Groupon online for the Philly Eyeglasses Labs, something like $49 Groupon towards $189 frames. In the end, though, I ended up going for frames at For Eyes. Their frames seemed to be priced somewhere between America's Best and Philly Eyeglasses: The lower-priced frames were something like $69 and up, with most being at least $99. For Eyes, too, has a Groupon available -- something like $35 towards for $200 towards frames. However, it also had a generous 50% discount. The employee, Lee, was very patient and nice enough to help me compare how much I'd be paying using the Groupon vs the store 50% discount and to check whether my insurance would cover the cost of frames. Sadly, you can't combine two options but I was satisfied that I was getting the lowest possible price I could. The other reason I ended up going to For Eyes is, well, practically speaking, they're a chain so you could go to another For Eyes with a glasses problem and presumably, they'd help you out (ex. help you tighten your glasses, etc). America's Best is also a chain, I think, but for Philly Eyeglasses, if you're outside of Philly and have a major unforeseen problem with your glasses, you may be out of luck until you return to Philly, or you have to shell out money. When my glasses broke I called my insurance company to see what eye doctor I could go to to use insurance. I was informed that For Eyes would except my insurance. I first called there, and they told me that they do accept it. I made an appointment and came in for an exam and a new pair of glasses. Cheryl was the only representative there and was not friendly at all , very stand -offish and it was clear she did not want to be there. The eye doctor was on a screen, which was fine but asked if I could get Cheryl back in the room who was helping another costumer, it was just awkward considering she wasn't nice to begin with. After my exam I was told that it was not covered by my insurance and would have to pay for the exam. I then browsed through their selection with Cheryl and the pair that I liked she told me they were too big for my face so I chose another pair and my total was $155. I was told it would take up to 10 days to receive them. I asked Cheryl in the meantime, if she could try to fix my glasses and she told me no I could try to use super glue. I waited for my glasses and then they were shipped to my home which I never had happen before and when I opened them and put them on, they were extremely tight on my face and I absolutely hated them. I called and spoke to Marlene, who told me she was unsure why they were shipped to my house and to come in for them to be adjusted so I could wear them and pick a new pair. As I did, and then I waited two weeks, and as I was calling back almost every day towards the end to see the status of the new glasses, I was then informed they were on back order. i finally received them and I now have another pair of glasses that I am unhappy with, and are extremely tight on my face and ears that I had a constant headache and they are always sitting crooked. I desperately needed a new pair of glasses and decided to not go back to For Eyes a third time because of the treatment from Cheryl, the wait time and the selection I called in to get my script to go elsewhere. Marlene told me that was not a problem. She apologized that For Eyes did not have a large selection for small faces. I went to another eye doctor and was treated extremely well, and after they helped me pick a new pair of glasses I asked if they could adjust the pair I received from For Eyes and they did make them a bit more comfortable but ultimately told me that the frames are just too small for me. I appreciated the treatment , help and honesty from them. I am very happy with my new glasses. I will not for any reason come back to For Eyes or recommend them to anybody. read more

My wife purchased two pair of glasses and our daughter bought her sunglasses here. They were both impressed with the knowledge and friendliness of the staff so when I couldn't find my sunglasses, that's where I headed. The selection was good so I spent a fair amount of their time making a decision and placed an order. Upon returning home I found my old sunglasses in a jacket so called For Eyes the next morning to cancel my order. OK - I've been coming here for three years after switching insurance plans and I've never had this experience so I'm not sure what happened this time but I just left feeling very uncomfortable and upset. I signed up for an 11 AM appointment and sat in the waiting area until 1135 at which point I was taken back to do the initial evaluation by the technician and then sent back out to the waiting area. I sat there until 1145 and then was called back by Dr. Brooks and began my initial evaluation. I do wear contacts though infrequently so I made clear on my initial paperwork that this was just an eyeglass (NOT CONTACT) appointment and went through the appointment assuming this was considered. I then left the room with a sample pair of daily contacts just for me to try presumably and then was asked to pay for the contact lens exam that I did not consent to. Although the doctors here are very nice I don't appreciate being asked to pay for something that I directly did not ask for or consent to and I will not be back. My advice if you need to go here is just to be vigilant during your exam and be sure to know the ins and outs of your insurance to avoid surprises or people trying to take advantage of you. read more

This was the best optician experience I've ever had. I arrived early and was taken immediately. A clerk put my insurance info into the computer and did some pre-exam screening tests. The doctor came out within five minutes after that. I wish I remembered her name, but she gave me a thorough exam and answered my questions about my aging eyes. I've opted to buy glasses through Zenni this time, and I am confident that the prescription she provided will be accurate. (Plus the air conditioning was excellent on a broiling day!) I had been looking for an optometrist after moving to the city and, based off of a glowing recommendation from a friend, decided to see Dr. VanHorn. I am so glad I did! She was attentive, answered all my questions, and explained everything very simply and thoroughly. I never felt rushed. I love that she kept the focus on me and my vision, rather than making me feel like just another customer. She's so relatable and funny, too! I don't think I've ever been excited about seeing an optometrist or having my eyes dilated, but I am honestly looking forward to my subsequent visits with Dr. VanHorn. They are in serious need of customer service training. I went in with my friend and stood there directly in front of two salespeople for a good two minutes as they went back and forth about some order. He put something on Twitter about it, and to their credit their corporate responded, but I'm still ticked... Needless to say I didn't get the eye exam and buy the frames I had intended. There's a basic element to acknowledging that people are standing right in front of you waiting to be helped. It doesn't matter what role you're playing--if you're working in some kind of services you need to--at the very least--say "I'll be right with you..." or "sorry, we just need a minute." Instead, these two sat complaining to each other about a customer's order, deciding how to respond to that person, when the most important customers at that moment should have been the people standing directly in front of them. It never feels good to be ignored and not acknowledged, but in a sales setting you can walk out and let people know on social media what to expect from a place. Maybe when there are no other customers in the store it's different, but in the meantime, a manager needs to explain how it goes. Or maybe they just didn't see us three feet away staring directly at them both, in which case they probably need their eyes examined... read more

A friend recommended For Eyes for my optometry needs. It is conveniently located in center city so you can just hop over and get your eyes checked during an early (or late) lunch break. Definitely get your eyes dilated! They give you sweet shades after you are done. The staff were wonderful and were very helpful in getting the pre-examination done quickly and thoroughly. I needed a new pair of glasses after my dog mangled my designer pair. I wanted a not-so-chic pair that I wouldn't be so upset about if my dog decided he needed a new chew toy. Co-workers of mine said our insurance plan covered one pair of glasses per year as long as you find a place that takes our insurance company, so I started my search. ForEyes had a deal going on that drew me into the store, but before I began perusing, I asked if they took my insurance plan. They said yes, so I took a look at the frames and picked a few that caught my eye (no pun intended), keeping a mental note of the ones I liked. Off I went downstairs to make an appointment for an eye exam. They didn't have any openings for that week but fit me in for the next week. I returned the next week and did the eye exam, which turned out that I was blinder than I had been when I got my previous pair. The optometrist was friendly and helpful when talking to me about my prescription. As I was leaving, I gave the front desk lady my insurance card. She then told me that the insurance company I had was on their list of companies that only got a 10% discount! So I ended up paying forty bucks for the exam, and $200 for the glasses! So much for free!! I wish they had informed me of this the first time I mentioned my insurance company. If this had been the end of it, I might have given them three stars. But then when I came back to pick up my glasses, I had ordered purple frames and the ones they gave me were black. When I mentioned this, the lady said that I had to specify which color I wanted. I tried on purple ones and wasn't even aware they came in black! Everyone's friendly in there but I felt they should've been more upfront about their policies toward insurance companies, as well as more helpful when they make a mistake with your order. read more

I recently got my eyes checked here and picked up a pair of prescription sunglasses. The ophthalmologist that is partnered with this office is really great. Office is quick to make appointments and thorough in the examination. They get FIVE stars. Upstairs, at the For Eyes shop, the staff are very helpful. Great staff. Five stars... however, the selection of glasses really isn't so great. The cheap frames (the "Two frames for $99" deal) are really nothing special. In addition, the more expensive frames are only "OK." When you're used to going to specialty shops, these styles just don't cut it. HOWEVER, their selection of sunglasses is actually pretty good. They've got classics and contemporary frames. Plus, they can all be made into prescription sunglasses. It is also worthy to note that they DO NOT have a lab in their store to make lenses. Everything is sent to their distribution center to be prepared. Turn around is really quick, so that isn't a problem. However, if you're just getting fresh lenses in your old frames, you better have contacts or another pair because they will need the frames for several days. I'd say get your eyes checked here and get sunglasses. If you're going for the regular glasses, look over the selection as you may be able to find a hidden gem. Otherwise, there are other places really close by that offer more unique styles. read more
