What a shame. The practice seemed good initially but ended up not accepting my insurance even though they are in network. They differentiate between a medical visit and a non-medical visit. I argued that my eye hurting could have been because I needed a prescription for glasses/contacts, but the optometrist thought it was medical. Getting a 2nd opinion since I don't trust this practice anymore. They prescribed eye drops but it hasn't helped, so I don't think the issue is medical. Would have given them 5 stars if not for this insurance/billing issue. read more

Until I visited this spot in VA, to find the staff here are committed to provide quality products and every day value delivered to their clients with a friendly approach. I usually have two pairs of eyeglasses, one for computer and one for reading. I have needed a new pair of computer glasses for well over a year but kept putting it off. I spend most of the day and evening at my computer, and constantly need to look away from the computer screen to read papers or documents. Rather than constantly switching eyeglasses I would read paper documents while wearing my computer glasses, which would cause eye strain. Once the computer glasses were no longer working I would go without glasses so was constantly squinting ending up with eye strain and headaches. I wanted one pair of eyeglasses I could use to see my computer screen and read off-screen, something that I had never been able to get before. I did not want bifocals, tried that many years ago and did not care for it. Dr. Lilly Chen, Optometrist at EyeCareAboutEyes came to the rescue. After the usual testing of different lenses, while sitting at the eye test phoropter (had to Google for that), she then let me sit at a desk with a computer display and provided paper reading material while I wore a metal lens frame in which she could easily change lenses. This is the first time an Optometrist had done this, and something I had always wanted but was not available, or at least not offered, with other Optometrists. I would usually just measure the distance between my eyes and the computer screen before a visit. We were able to get the perfect lens combination in the office. The real test of course came once I picked up my glasses and started to use them. When I left the office I told the staff I would take a week or so to allow my eyes to adjust to the new lenses. I was told I had almost two months to have the lenses changed at no additional cost. This is the first time EVER I have purchased a new pair of glasses and have not had to go back to the Optometrist to replace the lenses. It only took a day or two to realize my eyes did not have to go through a period of adjustment to the new lenses, that was also new. I have crisp, clear vision looking at the computer screen and reading paper documents. If I had known I would have this result with just one visit to EyeCareAboutEyes, I would have come years ago. I keep my old reading glasses by my bed, but now I can work at my computer needing just one pair, not two pairs of eyeglasses, and can take these with me when I leave the house. I highly recommend Dr. Lilly Chen. She is patient and takes the time to really listen to you. The entire staff from the front office and the woman who does the initial testing are very friendly and helpful. They take the time to answer any questions and want to be sure you are pleased with your purchase. The exam was covered by insurance. Did not purchase frames which would have been covered. Insurance covers standard lenses only so I paid for the additional anti-glare and non-scratch surface. read more

I've had trouble finding just the right eye doctor to go to, but I think I've found a place that I'll continue to visit in the future. My initial experience with EyeCare About Eyes started off great. I was able to easily schedule my appointment online. When I went to download the New Patient forms a few days later, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I could do all of the paperwork online, using a secure connection of course. I had a comprehensive eye exam today performed by Dr. Alicia Kim of EyeCare About Eyes. Dr. Kim was very thorough and quick in her exam and she has excellent patient communication skills. @ Drs. Chen & Chen...you need to keep this one if possible. I didn't wait long at all before my exam commenced. Unfortunately, I didn't get the young lady's name who performed some initial screening. She was very personable. The facility was clean and modern. I especially liked the exam chair because it was very comfortable to sit in. Three things I would recommend as areas for improvement. First, replace the plastic chairs with nicer chairs. The plastic chairs aren't very supportive or comfortable and that's coming from someone with spine issues. Second, consider greatly improving your selection of eyeglasses. I would have liked to give you the business for my eyeglasses purchase, but there wasn't enough of a selection for me to make a choice. If you want to see an example of a great selection of eyeglasses, visit Crestwood Optical in Manassas, VA. Last, get rid of the mask policy. I despise having to wear a mask unless I choose to wear one. Bottom line, count me as a continuing customer, at least for eye care needs. read more

I love how Dr. Chen takes the time to make sure my contacts are going to work for me. I've never had an eye doctor let me sample contacts before committing to a brand. I was always prescribed a brand and that was that, hopefully it works. Dr. Chen makes my difficult eyes feel like they have been heard! Cornea puns aside, they care - and it shows to your benefit. I noticed from the get-go last year that Dr. Chen wasn't rushed, was more thorough, and gave more detailed explanations than I'd come to expect at eye doctors. Turns out, being able to give patients that kind of care was why they started their own practice in the first place! It shows in their business practices as well. When the lab returned lenses that were too thick last year (they touched my cheek, we were all surprised), they ate the cost and only charged for the pair I did end up getting. They aren't pushy about getting glasses ordered through them, and were actually a little sheepish discussing some of the add-on options. Finally, they have the 1.74 index lenses here - a lot thinner than the 1.67s at Costco (mine just came in for the same frame - really big difference), big plus if you've got a high prescription like me. 10/10 would come again! read more

First off, Dr. Chen was great. Warm, friendly, knowledgeable, and gave me the impression that she was happy to answer all my questions. I felt really good about her exam and the information she gave me. I chose Eyecare About Eyes based on them being in-network and their reviews, despite it being a 30 min drive for me. She didn't disappoint. Unfortunately none of that can be said for the front office staff I encountered that day (1/26/2021). I wouldn't bother to write this if their demeanor was the only issue, maybe just not a great day at work or something, but the person who handled my insurance and payment was incorrect and insistent about the information she gave me. I would chalk it up to an honest mistake, but she was dismissive when I mentioned I thought my insurance covered glasses, saying "your insurance doesn't cover materials" and gave the impression that she just couldn't be bothered to discuss it further. After speaking to my insurance to confirm I do have the coverage I thought I did they suggested she might not have checked my VSP insurance (I have dual insurance, including VSP Premire). Perhaps that was the case, but I felt that both staff members were doing as little as possible to just get me out of there. Definitely weren't going to 'check again' to see if something was missed. They were just very disinterested and unfriendly from the moment I walked in. I even tried to buy their anti-fog spray, but when I asked about it the irritable response I got was such a turn-off I just left. Other than the poor customer service by the front office staff, I was the only person there the entire visit so I will say at least it was quick with minimal waiting and no issues with social distancing. Their selection of frames is a bit limited compared to other places I've been, but they did have a variety of brands. I didn't spend much time trying on frames based on being told my insurance wouldn't cover it (and feeling like I was a nuisance anyway), but in fact my insurance provides an additional discount for featured frame brands, which I would have used if it was mentioned. Dr. Chen deserves 5 stars, she is a great doctor. Hopefully her staff won't lose her anymore business, but the experience will have me going somewhere more conveniently located next time. Now I know to trust what I know and maybe be more insistent, even when the customer service is lacking. Update: From Dr. Chen's response and the email she sent me explaining my error, I understand that it was my responsibility to have pursued the matter of my insurance further, despite her staff's lack of professionalism and courtesy. I agree, and now have a more complete understanding of my vision plan, thanks to her staff. I will definitely go out of my way to procure better service in the future. read more

I was very pleased with my first experience at EyeCare About Eyes. You can really tell that Dr. Chen and the staff really do care about you and your eyes. I came here for my annual eye exam and for contacts. The office is very clean and the decor is absolutely adorable. Dr. Chen went over each step with me, thoroughly explaining what each equipment was testing. She showed me images of my eye and explained exactly what she was looking for in a healthy eye. I never had an optometrist go over that with me. The exam was simple and quick. After the exam, Dr. Chen asked which contacts I had been wearing and if I had experienced any issues with them. I explained to her that I wear the two week contacts and that I stare at a computer screen all day at work. I feel that my eyes strain throughout the day. She suggested that I try the daily contacts to prevent less protein build up and dryness for my eyes. She then went over different options and answered any questions I had about two-week vs daily contacts. She gave me samples of two different brands so that I could test them out and see which ones I preferred. I loved that she took the time to go over the different prices and gave me her honest thoughts without trying to influence my decision. Dr. Lee was caring and knowledgeable. She spent adequate time with me listening to me and answering questions about how my contacts have worked in my eyes. I've never had a doc that wanted to make sure I had the right fit and feel of contact before coming here. She recommended Acuvue daily's and Copper Vision. I told her I had difficulty with Acuvue Oasis two weeks and that the day after wearing I had a lot of eye discharge. She said I probably have a reaction to the liquid it came in. I think she was right because even trying the dailys I could feel them in my eyes and copper was better. I went back for the contact follow up which she recommends and I purchased the Cooper Vision for less than half price for a year supply with rebate! read more

I was in the neighborhood visiting from out of town and wanted to see if I had computer glasses on my VSP plan. The office next to the grocery store looked new, neat and professional throughout. Dr. Lily Chen promptly checked the computer for my VSP offerings and even called to VSP to verify. After verifying my plan, she promptly went through the need/benefit for computer glasses and the different types of lenses.
