I can't say enough great things about Judy and Kip when it comes to solving all the eyeglass issues one could have. They had previously taken really good care of me in terms of fitting me for regular glasses for my multiple issues in being an artist who does photo realism. (I spend hours at my drawing board and easel and boy did their suggested glasses help.) And while I had workable sunglasses, my husband gently let me know that I didn't look great in the stodgy coke-bottle dark glasses that I had been wearing and I ended up agreeing with him. I wanted something more fashionable and functional in multiple situations. Judy spent a HUGE amount of time working with me and finding frames that I ended up loving. She also helped me get a gradated lens that allowed me to deal with brightness, but also see my phone in shaded outdoor light. Through all of this, Kip was repairing some damage I had done to another pair of glasses. I always walk out of Eye Shapes so satisfied. Give these folks a try. read more

The middle aged woman owner here really hurt my feeling and I will not be back. I'm an easy-going Aptos soccer mom, so it really takes a lot to make me feel un-valued and belittled. But this uncaring ans rude woman excelled at this! I purchased some Rx sunglasses here two years ago, and they were only so-so in term of attitude and knowledge. But I did spend $600, and did have a paying customer history with them... ..when I came in last month (in my tennis sweats), to look at some new fames, and I was curtly told be Mrs. High and Mighty that without a "commiment to buy" she could not "waste her knowledge and time with me..." Honestly, these are quotes from her mouth! She honestly said these things to a 40 year old white woman from the Aptos community with a household income of over $100,000 per year, who has purchased goods from her only two years ago...! Folks, honestly--she said this to a paying customer with a history of purchasing expensive prescription eyewear in their very store! My experience with Eye Shapes this last time was just heart breaking and terrible. I implore you to look elsewhere for your optimerey needs. Eye Shapes and it's owners are just out of control with rudeness and have started to treat people so badly, honestly it's just a shame. It really did break my heart--I shop so much for my families groceries next door at Deluxe foods and like the location, but I just will have no part in supporting a business that makes clients feel not valued and that belittles clients and only shows them any service until after come in, waving a handful of $100 bills plainly in sight. Wow, the other negative reviews here don't shock me, and I too have had just terrible treatment at Eye Shapes, so thought I would pipe up as well... I purchased over $120 in reading glasses at this store 6 moths ago, so I had a track record of dropping cash in this store (and for what it's worth I am a 55 year white male in Polo clothes and with a $200 haircut). The husband sold me the expensive and attractive reading glasses, and not much of a personality did he have (whatever happened to smiling to clients? Why roll your eyes with impatience as clients try things on and decide? Is 15 minutes too much of your time for a $120 sale?) So I recently came in to look at prescription Maui Jim sunglasses, and the wife co-owner curtly and ruddily told me that she could not give her time and experience away for free--that without a commitment to buy and a copy of my prescription from my optometrist, she was done with me. My mouth dropped! She wouldn't even take the glasses out of the case to show me until I ordered and paid for them?! I mean, folks, what kind of service is this?! I noticed on their WW site that they have operated this business in Deer Park since 1980, and my two cents is that this married couple is BURNED out! Look at ALL the negative reviews here on Yelp! They need to sell this business, retire, and try to find some sort of kindness and joy in life, as they don't have any now in their 35 year old business. My advice? I'm puzzled by some of the negative reviews. I admit that I went in the first time with some trepidation because of the reviews. But I took my glasses that were in need of repair (not purchased from them), and they took care of the problems at no cost. I've gotten prescription glasses from them and was impressed by how much time the took to check the vision and fit. It's a husband and wife team who are active and contribute to the community. They don't act like some of the young edgy folks in "Optical Boutiques" who want to put you in bizarre glasses that cost a fortune so you can feel "in." They carry the top brands and they take the time to make sure they fit and that you're satisfied. Give them a chance and have a chat. I think you'll find they're great. read more

I've been very happy with Eye Shapes' services over the last 10 years or so. They've been patient and agreeable, and more importantly have always gotten the geometry of my glasses exactly right. I think the guy has a keen eye for detail: on our first meeting, he nearly laughed at how low my previous optician (cheap shop in a mall) had put my bifocal line, which had had me stupidly craning my neck for a year whenever I read a newspaper. And after a very minor skiing accident, I walked into the shop and didn't even have to say "I think my glasses got a little bent;" the guy just reached for them and straightened them out. read more

I normally see Dr. Krok down town @ Eye Q, but I live in Aptos, it's a nice weekend, beach traffic, etc, so I stopped in here to get the temples on my new glasses adjusted. The woman behind the counter asked me where I bought them? I told her the internet. She gave me a disgusted look and said we don't adjust "internet" glasses. I wasn't aware there was a difference (?) I told her that was too bad, she just lost a customer; to which she replied I wasn't a customer anyway. And now I never will be. read more

These guys are great! I purchased three pairs of glasses before my insurance ran out and Judy was great with handling all that. I am surprised that anyone could have a negative experience here. This was my first visit to Eye Shapes. Kip and Judy were recommended by my opthomologist as among the best, most trustworthy opticians in Santa Cruz, and they lived up to her recommendation completely. They are both attentive, kind, and service-oriented, and obviously wanted to make the time I spent choosing new frames an enjoyable, comfortable experience. Judy's wry sense of humor was delightful. I was very pleased with the variety and selection of eyeglass frames ranging from the stylish and trendy to more conservative and traditional choices. Judy even unpacked and showed me some of their latest frames, which arrived by UPS while I was trying on some of the ones that Kip had first suggested. This was an all around great experience for me.
