Dr. Zhu was recommended for his knowledge of prisms to aid people with double vision. My husband has lost almost all of his central vision in the last year due to macular degeneration. and has had three Rx for glasses in the last year from another optometrist that made the double vision worse. These glasses took far less time to make, and we haven't picked them up yet. Hubby can no longer see even the "big E" on the eye chart unless he uses his peripheral vision, looking off to the side or up/down. but the guy who fit the glasses said they would remake them if they didn't help, more than once if needed but I can't remember the number of months. I am a bit stressed. I recommended this office to my husband because I had a great experience here, with Dr Zhu. With my new glasses I was able to see and photograph a baby bananna slug about the size of a dime! There was no hard sell. They used the frame the previous three Rx were placed in, and hope they can recycle the lenses. Will try to update this after hubby tries the new glasses for a week or so. read more

I have been going to Insight Eyecare for 8 or 9 years and have always been totally pleased. Love Dr Tran and Dr Ng. They are very thorough and have all the up-to-date equipment. Becky and the rest of the front staff are so knowledgeable and professional, as well as helpful and friendly. I really needed some specialized glasses for singing and they helped me figure out what distances I needed and then found me some clearance frames as my insurance had already been used up for the year Recently, i went to them with an eye emergency, instead of going to urgent care, cause I knew they would know what to do and help me right away., which of course they did. I had a pretty delightful experience at InSight this afternoon. From the first time I called to ask about business hours to walking in the door today, the staff were super friendly and helpful. In particular the front receptionist, Carley, and the optician, Liz, were both accommodating and warm and they went out of their way to help me get situated I feel like sometimes at optometrists you wind up getting treated a bit like cattle, but there was no herding or prodding going on here. In essence, I came in to drop off a pair of frames to swap lenses out with a new Rx. I wanted to do them at Costco where it would have cost a whopping $75, but my frames required a special lens and Costco's lab could not handle it. So I made some calls and wound up with the "local special" down the street from my house. I was in and out in under 10 minutes with no hassle or fuss. Bonus points for being open 'til 6 most days and open 'til 7 on Wednesdays for us working folk who can't ever seem to break away during lunch or spare sick time just to take care of prescription pickup and dropoff. My only complaint is the cost of the lenses, which, even after VSP insurance seemed rather pricey ($195), which is an order of magnitude more expensive than Costco's options. I wouldn't have even minded if there was some middle ground, but basically my choice was uber-premium anti-reflective scratch resistant lenses or basic plastic, with pretty much nothing in between. So while I wouldn't say I was strong-armed into shelling out big bux, it hurt to open my wallet so wide when I had expected to pay about half as much. read more

I've been going to Insight Eyecare many years for my annual vision care needs. The doctors have always been professional and knowledgable. Great choice for me since they are local and accept my employer's vision insurance. The customer service has always been terrific and is the key reason I keep going back. Lillian, one of their opticians, is especially terrific. Recently I had some trouble with some expensive eyeglass frames that were apparently defective. First she tried to fix them herself, and then ended up ordering me a new replacement frame. Only took a week to get the new frame into which she swapped out the lenses in the office. The frame failed again in the same exact place at which point she recommended I choose another replacement frame. I chose a frame from a different manufacturer and she swapped the frames & lenses at no charge. She wanted to be sure I was happy with my glasses (since they are of course a big part of my life) and did not ask me a bunch of questions about what happened to the failed frames. My satisfaction was her priority. When I go into their office, I always ask for her, whether it's for a simple frame adjustment (in which she excels) or ordering new glasses. They also have a good selection of frames, but the customer service is what keeps me as a long-term customer. read more

After reading the Yelp review, the owner called me personally to try to fix the problems I had encountered. In addition, he asked one of his clerks to call me, as well. He asked me to remove my Yelp review, as he is a new owner trying to improve the business. Personally, I would not return to the business because the problems with the business were too numerous. That being said, I appreciate the owner's attempt to correct past errors. I am upgrading my grade from 2 stars to 3 stars due to the owner's efforts to do right by his clientele. read more

My husband I both saw Dr. Kathy Ng, we both really liked her and I would give her 5 stars if it was only based on our experience with her. However, we were very unhappy when my husband lens fell out about 6-7months after he had them. He took them in to get repaired and turns out they put the wrong lens in his glasses and then they demanded he pay $250 because our insurance didn't reimburse the clinic. Not our problem, but we called our insurance to see what happened and apparently they didn't get confirmation of insurance certification, which is standard protocol and now the insurance was refusing to pay. We received a letter from our insurance that was also sent to Insight stating, they were at fault and that we were NOT responsible for the bill. Insight refused to give my husband his glasses back and held them basically hostage for over 2 months. The front office said they would talk to the higher ups to figure out what they wanted to do. Even though it was clear we were not responsible. Then one day out of the blue they call my husband and state if we pay $100 they will give him his glasses back. He was desperate to get them back because his old pair were no longer the right prescription. We ended up having to pay $100 for their mistake. Plus we paid additional $165 for what insurance didn't cover. I was very disappointed on how they handled the situation, and would never go there again. We are now in the search for a new eye doctor. If you use InSight, I would make sure before you order anything or see the doctor that they do everything they need to do before hand. The only reason I am giving them 2 stars, is because Dr. Ng was great. read more

Worst eye doctor I've ever been too. Staff was very nice though. The initial part of my visit was great, Though appointments were running behind it seemed and I had to wait a while (the staff seemed to be making jokes about the particular doctor - which was odd). I started out with the assistants, which went fine. Once the assistants were finished and I was with the doctor (Dr. Benjamin Kohn), things went south quickly. The guy was just odd. Really odd. First, he needed to finish something up on the computer, so he hands me a book of short stories that seemed to have been checked out from the local library. OK, I guess that was nice. I open it up and the third or so story down is titled, "Why I want to F*#k Patty Hearst". Really? You're giving this to your patients as reading material? I mentioned the inappropriateness of the book to him. He just shrugged, threw it on the table and started the exam. So the exam part starts. This guy rambles on and on and on about this that and the other thing. I can't even follow what he wants me to do because between each instruction he throws in random stuff that has nothing to do with the appointment. And it was all fast paced. He couldn't seem to keep a single train of thought. I started wondering if he was on cocaine or something. The guy was just really off, scatterbrained. He tells me all about Lasik surgery, how he got it, how it's done, etc, then says I don't need it. Ok, why did you just waste my time then? I thought I was done and he keeps having me try different powers of lenses. How about this? And this? And this? And this? It was a whirlwind. I got my prescription and ordered glasses. The prescription was a bit stronger than my old one, but I figured my eyes must have gone down hill. The glasses come and I put them on (note, I mostly wear them for reading and using the computer, etc). Things far away are sharp, but too sharp. And things like a book or computer screen actually look worse! A total waste of money! There may be more than one doctor here, and there may be a "good one". But I'd be wary of this place. At least one of the doctors, Dr. Kohn, is just ... I don't know how else to say it, but kinda nuts. I'll be filing a complaint with my insurance company. read more

Exceptional experience from start to finish. Professionalism, courtesy and respect throughout the entire process. I reached out to make appointments for my 5-year-old daughter and myself. I was greeted very warmly on the phone and was delighted at the efficiency and suggestions regarding having the appointments back to back. Advice was relayed on what to expect for my daughter, given it was her first visit. As if, my initial impression was not solid enough, it really did get better. Everyone I engaged with in the office was AWESOME! No waiting, fast testing and Dr. Singh was respectful, helpful and thorough. Great recommendations were made but I was not SOLD to. Given I am in the sales trade, I really appreciate the consultative approach. Kids, adults, update your RX, get your glasses, whatever it is you need: go to Insight! I love to be able to provide glowing reviews for businesses that go above and beyond and Insight does that. Go in and experience it for yourself, you will be glad you did! My daughter can't wait to go back. Little things like the toy box at the end make my job as a parent easier. I just had my glasses replaced at Insight Eyecare in Scotts Valley. I bought my original glasses from them ages ago and the frames lasted through a couple of prescription changes. The frames lasted 6 years. When they broke I took them to Insight and I was helped by a young woman named Becky. She called the factory to see if replacement parts were available. the frames were no longer in production and no parts available. So she spent a significant amount of time looking for a similar frame style and size so I could use my existing lenses. Then spent another 20 minutes fitting the lenses into the new frames. She thought outside of the box to find a solution for me that was cost efficient yet very fashionable. She hit a home run. We will continue to take our families optical needs to Insight. The result out was out of the store with Calvin Klein glasses for $38 after insurance. Great job! read more

To say the least, I'm severely disappointed with this office. I had my husband's contact prescription moved to this office due to their high reviews and had a relatively good experience overall. This was at the start of the year. Called them up today to set up an eye exam for me. Haven't had vision insurance for a while nor an exam in about 7 years and figured, heck, it's probably time. Asked if they had an appointments for Friday. Nope, no doctors in Monday or Friday. Ok, a medical office without a doctor, that makes total sense. Alright, how about Thursday? Instead of being helpful and suggesting a day they ARE available, the receptionist casually blew me off with a completely unhelpful "we're booked for a few weeks." Ok, thank you for letting me know how disinterested you are in new patients. Will be moving my husband's contact prescription to a new doctor once he needs a refill on his prescription. So, you lost out on a current patient and new patient. Kudos! read more

This is an update for my previous review on 9/22/2015 After posting my previous review, I got a call from the owner, who genuinely wanted to help fix the problem. I went back to the store and the guy who helped me was very knowledgeable, saw immediately what the problem was, and called the lab (who makes the lenses) to explain precisely to them what was needed. Unfortunately the lab did not follow his directions (this is not Insight's fault). We could have kept trying to get the lab to follow their instructions, but we decided to simply get a different style frame. I picked the new glasses today, and am pleased to say that they fit great. So Insight deserves credit for fixing this problem, and I'm pleased with how things worked out. read more

This was my first visit to the InSight Center. I was long overdue to get my eyes checked. My appointment was with Dr. Ng. She was very helpful and used the latest technology to examine my eyes. She actually suggested lowering the power of my current prescription because my current glasses are too strong for one of my eyes. They did way more than the eye exam and the glaucoma check. They tested my peripheral vision and a couple of other tests. Not sure I needed all of those extra tests but it was good to know everything was OK. I took a look around at the glass frames. I saw a couple of pairs that looked interesting but I am not sure if I will buy my glasses there. I usually prefer metal frames and theirs were mostly plastic frames. read more
