The technology used also seems to be modern and sufficient to get the job done. I found the phone and receptionist teams very friendly and helpful. This facility moves a lot of patients along quickly. That could seem impersonable. However each technician knew their job and executed it efficiently and with a human touch. The doctor was right on point with his time, information and process. The facility is a bit odd. It is relatively easy to find off Engle road as it is right by the entrance. It is confusing, for first time visitors, to know if you should park on the lower level or the upper level. There is good signage on the lower level if you start off in the wrong location.

I was unexpectedly not fully sedated for my first eye surgery, and very uncomfortably felt both pressure and pain during the procedure. A better job of sedation took place on the second eye surgery; though still not ideal. The results of my surgery have been distressing at the highest level. Despite going into the surgery with very good close vision, everything close is now blurry. I can no longer read, and it immediately frightened me. When I expressed shock, the explanation i was given, was that "most people" want distance vision, so those were the new acrylic lenses he implanted. Dr. Hudson had years of eye exams to know my traditional field of vision; but arbitrarily chose (without consulting me, despite the business name) to completely reverse my quality of vision. I previously only used my eyewear to drive, as required by my BMV test results. As a result of my new surgery, if I wish to clearly see anything close, I must now wear eyeglasses. The complete reversal of my normal, lifelong (72 years) field of vision. I have been forced to trade wearing eyeglasses 1 hour each week, to run errands in the car; to now having to wear eyeglasses 12-16 hours every day, simply to do everyday chores, and enjoy my hobbies (reading, writing, and playing musical instruments). Dr. Hudson's surgery has ruined the quality of my life. Dr. Hudson and one staff member subtlety mocked my discouragement, and referred me to a specialist surgeon in Indianapolis to make any desired visual adjustments. Sadly, because i have distance vision, my insurance company will not pay for the close vision correction, and as a low-income senior citizen, I can not independently afford to pay out of pocket for the corrective surgery. I am left regretting a cataract surgery, which was not a pressing vision issue, for the rest of my life. Very unfair.

On both occasions I was impressed with his treatment, skillsets, and his teaching others while he resolved both of my issues. Dr. Vangessel keep me informed in all that he was performing, and he also remained in consultation with my normal doctor, that could not see me. Not only did he inform me of what was causing my loss of vision in one eye, he explained it to my wife. Well above and beyond what was expected, by us! In closing, we were extremely impressed with Dr. Vangessel and would recommend him to anyone searching for an eye doctor.... he is the best I have ever had! Dennis K. Owen

Just last week, I took a friend to Dr Mattingly. He said her eyes have been changing every year…read moresince she has been seeing her back in the late 90's. But, there appears to be a problem. She has said she can not see well even with the glasses prescribed just last year. Then after further questioning, she indicated she has not seen well for a long time. And she said that her prescription changes each year and requires new glasses. So I asked to see her past prescriptions. Each prescription was different. But not progressively worse as one would expect with progressive eye problems. For those of you with astigmatism, the Axis reading changed along with other readings which would show back and forth between her eyes getting better, then reversing to getting worse. Not what you would expect. Time for a second opinion! Went today for the second opinion. She explained her vision as everyone does and then continued with the exam. He photographed the inside of her eyes, continued with all the normal tests, read her glasses to see the prescription as made by the manufacturer and then proceeded with her prescription exam. Here are the results. 1. Concern about the varied prior to present prescriptions. 2. Current prescription from 4 days ago is wrong. 3. Current glasses from a year ago do not match the prescription from when they were prescribed. 4. Bifocals were prescribed at the wrong strength. 5. The axis for the astigmatism was wrong resulting in blurred vision even with the glasses. While a lot of this sound to be a responsibility of the patient, let me ask a simple question. If you put your trust in a doctor for twenty years, you would expect that doctor to provide you with the best possible care? Well. I believe that doctor has provided his best. Unfortunately, his "best" isn't good enough. Now the reason for this review. As we told his nurses the problem she was experiencing, they said that a lot of his patient complain about the same thing. After the exam, the changes did not relate to what she expressed. There appears to be a systemic problem here.

I was not told up front I would be charged for part of our visit. It was for a contact consultation. That literally involved 5 mins of time by the way. I assumed we wouldn't be charged that twice since we did that the first time my daughter got contacts. So yeah not very happy. Then I'm told that since she has a balance she can't have her glasses. Um what? She needs them to see. The manager was rude. So I wrote a check even though that wasn't budgeted for the week. Then we are told my daughter can't have a note for school because she didn't see the doctor that day. What? Regardless of seeing the doctor she missed part of her day at school to pick up her glasses. I was then lied to again and told the school has asked them not to write notes unless the doctor is seen. I said my daughters school name and the manager was rude again and said I'll just get you a note. I said never mined and walked out. I also informed her that they lost seven patients that day because we will not be back. I did call my daughters school and let them know and was told that her school has NEVER told anyone to not write a note. I would not recommend going to Midwest Eye ever.

I…read morehad gone to Physicians immediate care a day earlier and they had misdiagnosed my issue as allergies. The doctor was very nice, and seemed very capable. He diagnosed two different issues and wrote me a scrip, then booked for me to come back a few days later to see how well my eye responded to the medication. I had to do a full round of antibiotics and put cream on my eyeball. I am now healed from that issue, so that part is A-ok. My issue with this office has more to do with their "office policies". First of all, I was annoyed that the Dr. kept trying to get me to come back over and over for expensive office visits to confirm that the treatment was working. If I hadn't said no for the 3rd visit I would still be paying for office visits to this day as my insurance doesn't cover office visits completely. I had already paid a couple hundred bucks to get my eye fixed with insurance if that tells you anything. What prompted me to write this review was the way they handled the next issue. I received a bill from the place where I was misdiagnosed (never saw a doctor, just an arrogant nurse guy who barely looked at me). The bill was inflated and that pissed me off so I called them to see if they could make an adjustment for the misdiagnosis and bad service I got since they were billing me a few hundred bucks too. They said they would need a fax from Dr. Doren's office stating what the actual diagnosis and treatment was so they could proceed. I called Dr. Doren's and asked them to send this info and she agreed. A few days later I get a call from Physican's Immediate care about the info they received. Seems Dr. Doren's office just sent a scribble from a prescription pad with the prescription on it. Frankly, I think this should be enough, but that is for another review, but they said they needed my records which should include the findings, including the diagnosis and the treatment prescribed. I called Dr. Doren's office back to ask that she do this and she sighed heavily for being put out apparently and said she would "have to speak to Dr. Doren" about this and that there would be a $15 charge to release my records because this takes "extra time". Jesus H. I said, well then can I just have my own records then since I've paid for this already? and she said, No, it's still $15 to get my own records released. I have a file of all of my medical records, blood work results, etc etc and have never had to pay one red cent for them. I do not understand what is the big deal of helping one of your patients resolve this issue. Instead they see it as an opportunity to nickel and dime me to death. I'll seriously have to reconsider whether or not I will return to this Doctor again because of how unhelpful they have been with this situation. It's a small office, no nurse, just the person at the front and the doctor and they are conducting business like it's a giant bureaucratic establishment. I am very disappointed. This is why I deducted 2 stars, for adding more expense and bureaucracy to an already annoying situation. Thanks Guys.
