So after receiving a few quotes from a handful of businesses, I went with Potomac Moving due to the speed of their response, clarity in communication, pricing and overall warmth and professionalism. In our first phone call to walk though my needs, they were very assuring and accommodating, which is a such a relief in the midst of stress and coordination that comes with planning for a move. They were also always very responsive in the few times that I reached out between the time I paid the deposit and the actual move. A night or two before, I sent at email regarding wardrobe boxes, since I was debating whether or not I should buy and have a few delivered to me. The owner responded quickly, assuring me that wardrobe boxes were tried, true and if I wanted to buy any directly from them that I could. That ended up being a great call, because they were able to properly enforce the boxes so that even the boxes filled with my heaviest coats remained in tact. On the day of the move, the movers were communicative regarding their arrival time. They were also very nice and hard working. I had a few large furniture items that needed to be disassembled and they ended up being quite beasts to tackle. But they worked diligently to break them down. Once it came time to move things to my new place, that was a breeze. One gesture that I thought was just so classy, was the owner called in the middle of the move to check-in on how things were going - I really appreciated that. Overall, would definitely recommend PMC - they're easy to work with, fair and transparent about pricing and you're sure to be met with professionalism!

I also thought the service was a good value for the level of work they provided. What I especially appreciated was that they worked with me to find a solution when my plans changed. At one point, I was considering storing my belongings at their warehouse for less than a week. Rather than simply taking the additional business, they told me it did not make sense to move everything from the original location into warehouse storage for such a short period because it would unnecessarily increase my costs. That advice was one of the reasons I ultimately decided to use PODS instead. My moving needs did change at the last minute, which made the overall move more expensive than I had originally planned, but that was because of the changing logistics, not because they were trying to increase the price. I really appreciated that they were focused on helping me find the most practical and cost-effective solution. I would absolutely recommend them.

I KNOW how long it takes to move my place. Not only did this take more than TWICE as long with allegedly a whole other person, they brought a fourth unauthorized guy. And still took more than half the time. One guy sat in the truck most of the time, I have pictures, the others didn't start on my kitchen until the end, had to wait for that....later to find out when I went back to the old apartment they hadn't even finished the whole kitchen ...ran over my allotted time at the building I was moving out of, at my cost. And then they ruined my couch. So I paid DOUBLE what I was expecting, which was already more than what was quoted cause I was adding a little buffer, but ended up tipping a whole additional person because I'm not a jerk. The guys were nice but inefficient. Kept saying this is what you get with a higher quality mover, but it was not even a better experience. They were wasteful with the amount of packing supplies they used, never presented or communicated the prices of the materials they were using, which I was told was included anyway but also others I never approved or asked for. Just popped it on me in the end. Oh and then they say "we are going to adjust your time by 15 min you'll see a refund on your card" and two and a half weeks later still waiting for it to even show pending at least. But you better believe the charge was instant. I was debating sharing my feedback but was so mad I finally emailed the company. But no one had even dignified me with not even an automated response, just silence. So I come here to do something I pretty much never do. But that's how annoyed I am. Sorry but would rather recommend. Cheap Movers, way better. I used last move were a thousand times better and a QUARTER of the price. I'm not even cheap but I hate being taken for a fool, and it turned out to be just that. That's what I get what I get for using hourly movers for the first time, never again. A slow work scam, exactly what I was worried about, but like an idiot I bought into the reassurances Karen gave me but they truly let her down. I hope she knows they're having her selling lies.

They got everything moved without a scratch on anything, and honestly, they're the fastest movers I've ever seen. James said he treats moving like Tetris, and he and Jesse did an excellent job getting lots of boxes and furniture safely onto dollies. I also appreciated how they triaged the types of furniture and loaded so many things onto multiple dollies in order to take it all down the elevator in as few trips as possible. From a pandemic perspective, they wore masks during the move, and I didn't feel any concerns. When I had to sign final paperwork at my old place, they headed to the new place and informed the concierge of our arrival to get the loading dock ready--now that's service! So the less items you store, the lower the monthly rate, which I've found to be very reasonable and fair. The only catch is that when you need your items delivered, the delivery fees can be very high ($20-40+) depending on how far advance you schedule the delivery. If you use their bins and end up emptying them out at home, they will charge $30 to pick up the bin(s) or charge $15 per bin that you decide to keep. This is how they make their money. MakeSpace is best for items you want to keep in long-term storage but not ideal if for items you need regularly.

We had a dedicated elevator, yet workers often brought items down only one or two at a time. I also saw team members on their phones or standing around in rooms and hallways instead of actively moving things. These delays added up quickly. The crew also misplaced parts of our bed frame, and the pieces had to be found before it could be reassembled. That alone added nearly an hour to the move. Because the move took much longer than expected, the final cost was significantly higher than the estimate we received. We were also charged based on an arrival time that was recorded as ten minutes earlier than when the crew actually arrived. The team was courteous, but given the inefficiency, added time, and higher final price, we would not use Bookstore Movers again. This is unfortunate, because we had been happy with them in previous moves.

Within 24 hours, I received a multiple phone calls, an updated claim and satisfactory terms and conditions that more than satisfied the issues I outline below. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I do not write reviews on Yelp, but Clutter unleashed a different beast. I used Clutter for over a year in DC. I had a positive experience with moving my stuff into storage, but they absolutely butchered getting my stuff back. Here's what happened, with accompanying pictures below. - I had wrapped my mattress using a mattress protection bag prior to being put into storage. When I saw my mattress in the storage return from Clutter, the bag had been ripped and a corner of the mattress had been dirtied. - A Clutter mover recklessly wheeled my dresser into the corner of a doorway, shattering a bottom section of the dresser and scattering wood pieces in the hallway that I cleaned myself. - When moving my bed frame into my room, the Clutter mover hit the bed frame on the wall, damaging it. My building said their vendor would charge $200 for fixing the wall. - I opted to store my guitar amplifier, a Fender Blues Junior IV. I loaded the amplifier into a box at the loading dock, placing multiple "fragile" tags on it. I recall a Clutter mover scanning the amplifier into the system. The amplifier did not show up in the system and I did not receive it during my storage return. When I asked for an original itemized list of every item picked up, they did not provide it, instead pointing to the valuation process for assessing my claim. I have every reason to believe they broke the amp or delivered it to someone else. If you are going to use them, then buy the most expensive protection plan if you're going to store valuables. But that would put the price on par with other storage companies that will actually do a job of storing your valuables. TLDR: Clutter is awful. I will never use them again. It's pretty reassuring to see the many others who agree with me. Believe us and use someone else.

BEWARE SCAMMERS This…read morehas honestly been one of the worst customer experiences I've ever had and I would never trust Clutter with my belongings again. From the beginning, I was told things over the phone that turned out to be completely different once my stuff was already in their storage. They told me the pickup would be split into multiple days and made it sound like there would be no extra charge for that. Then I later found out they charged me $1,408, another $513, and then more labor fees when they finally delivered my stuff back. None of this was properly explained or approved by me. They also sold me on the idea that one of the benefits of Clutter is that you can access your stuff when you need it. Even their own customer service confirmed to me in writing that pickups were available. Then AFTER my belongings were already with them, they told me that warehouse pickup is not available in Miami and that I would have to pay them to deliver my own belongings back to me. At that point you really feel like they are holding your personal belongings hostage, because you can't just go to the storage facility and get your own stuff. The pricing is also crazy. I was paying around $1,500 a month based on the amount of space they said my belongings needed. I finally got everything out and moved it into a normal 10x20 storage unit, and everything fits easily with room left. So I have no idea how they came up with the amount of storage they were charging me for. I also asked to cancel before the next month because I was done dealing with them, couldn't get a pickup appointment in time, and of course they still charged me another month. On top of everything else, they damaged and broke one of my lamps during the move. Customer service is another nightmare. You keep speaking with different overseas representatives who are generally polite, but they seem to have absolutely no power to actually fix anything. You explain the same story over and over, get different answers from different people, and nothing gets resolved. The only positive thing I can say is that the actual workers who came to pick up and drop off the belongings were great. They were nice, respectful, and hardworking. My issue is not with them at all. They are just doing their job and have nothing to do with how this company is run. My recommendation: just rent a normal storage unit and hire a moving company. You will pay a fraction of the price, you will actually have access to your own belongings, and you won't have to deal with surprise fees and all of this nonsense.
