Moving out--a nightmare because movers found rats' nests, rat feces, and mold & mildew on furniture. Oriental rug damaged beyond repair due to moisture (rug experts think it was water). Cube Smart reaction to my bringing to their attention "we have evidence of rats"---"It's not OUR fault!" Well, then whose? Manager explained that customers leave food in units, attracting rats. She said she "puts pellet out" for rats. Oh--so she IS aware of a rat problem. Yes, she admitted. Never notified customers. She does, however replenish the rat poison packet in a corner of a unit prior to a new customer using that unit. I doubt that she points out this extra service! As for any damage, "it's not our fault"-- Wood furniture dried and cracked. Rats gnawed through wrapped mattress, made more nests. Yuck! Professional movers would not take all the contents of the unit because the mold would contaminate their truck. Cube Smart staff unhelpful, unprofessional, rude. INSURANCE IS WORTHLESS--doesn't cover mold, mildew or rodents. Earthquakes, yes... IF THEY REALLY HAD "CLIMATE CONTROL" THERE WOULD BE NO MOLD, MILDEW OR RATS. SAVE YOUR PROPERTY AND YOUR MONEY--NO CUBE SMART! I agree with Donna J -- NO stars should be an option! AND Jeannette B rented at the SAME Cube Smart in Columbus OH! Awful Place! Unprofessional, disrespectful staff! District Manager gave me extra time to empty our 2 units. Last day was March 31st. Went to 3344 Morse Road on March 31st, gate code didn't work. Asked manager what the problem was, and in a nasty, juvenile tone said, "you don't have an account here so no access." I explained that the District Manager had kindly granted me until March 31st. She wasn't fazed--NO ACCESS. I allowed as how this kind of treatment is typical of Cube Smart, to which she yelled, "You are rude. GET OUT!" Called VP in Chicago, had to leave vm, then called DM who gave a successful gate code." Oriental rug professionals were meeting us a the unit since the rug looked nasty and I arranged for them to pick it up to clean it. When they opened it, rolled out on the driveway, I thought they were going to cry. "This WAS worth over $10,000, but now due to the water damage, all we can do is cut it down to a smaller size, repair and clean it"(over $2K to do this). I called the manager to come and look at the rug. No answer. My husband was at the front of the office and saw that she didn't pick up the phone (probably knew my number). He went in and asked her to take a look at this rug. Her reply was that this had NOTHING to do with Cube Smart; it was an issue between us and the rug people. No acknowledgement that Cube Smart's NON-Climate Controlled unit destroyed this rug. Currently have a case filed with Attorney General's office, writing to BBB, Secretary of State, and any/all state/local agencies and legal avenues to try to keep this from happening to anyone else! Oddly, city and county health departments had no jurisdiction/interest in rats in storage units :-(

I was disappointed that the inside ones and the one reserved wasn't available. I had to opt for the exterior access. Upon seeing the size I reserved and realizing it wasn't big enough to fit our items, I had to go up a size. Which of course costs more. All in all for what it is being used for it should work out. Just temporary storage until we move into our next house. We also used the truck for...not free as advertised on the truck itself. It was $10 for 4 hours with a $100 cash deposit. We got the $100 back afterwards. There were a few negatives regarding the truck itself. It was very old and the tire pressure was low upon receiving it. It was extremely dirty on the inside, both the cab and the cargo area. It didn't come with anything, a blanket or a bungee to tie down. Hell it didn't even have a ramp for easier access. But that isn't the most annoying thing, it is that you have to bring a receipt proving that you put gas back in it. Or they charge you some outrageous amount of money. We got it full and returned it full because we only put 8 miles on it. So the gas station across the street had half the pumps closed so it had cars 2 and 3 deep. So I had to drive another mile or two up the road. I figured it would click off after a gallon if it even took a gallon. Well it ended up not clicking off at all. It only stopped when I noticed the gas pouring out from under the truck. Super pissed. I almost feel like they know there is a hole in the gas tank but don't tell you on purpose. Also the first month free is a bunch of B.S. You have to pay for the lock, the insurance they offer and the administrative fee. Which equals the monthly fee or more with tax. Hopefully we will only need it for a month or two.

Not bad enough they take advantage of poor college students but to do it in a pandemic. SHAME ON YOU

Arrival and departure both instruct you to check in/out at the main office, but each time I went to the property, there was a "back soon" type sign on the door the said 15 minutes but after waiting 45 minutes the first time and 20 minutes, plus checking the property a bit, the second time I didn't believe anyone was coming back. And the rate increase was insane! Going from $98 to $117 is ridiculous. Just glad that most of my belongings look ok despite the rodent activity that occurred in my belongings and the water leaks that seemed to occur.

The Manager Marvin is very nice and worked with me to get a better price after each increase , however their rates for the amount of space you get just is not worth it (mind you this is for a small outside storage unit ), I also expect to pay the price advertised. Onsite Management is great, Extra space storage as a company not so much.
