My best friend's condo was damaged by fire, so we had to move all of his surviving house wares out, to a clean and dry facility. I found this place online and we couldn't be happier. The staff are exceptionally nice, the place is spotless, and they're actually concerned about keeping tight security and good service in place! If you search around on their website, you will find cheaper units of the same size (based on location in the building.) So, definitely good to search online first. And, their website is actually quite interactive, allowing you to pay your bills online too! I'm very satisfied with this place and would gladly recommend it to others. read more

if I could give zero stars, I would. Stay away from extra space storage in Tewksbury, Mass!!!! I was paying $177 per month for10x15 storage unit. They hiked up the price to $277 per month. Yet today, October 1, 2025 when I called the storage unit facility the person answering the phone had a major attitude was putting words in my mouth by saying I called him incompetent which by the way I never did. What pissed me off was the fact that he could not answer a simple question. And my question was why is it that when I just looked online at other storage facilities & even just now looking online at extra storage space website storage units that are bigger than mine were $100 less per month and even smaller units were under $100 a month so why was I being charged $277 per month???? he could not answer my question. Told me I would be getting a call back right away from one of his other associates..... which of course hasn't happened. This is the WORST storage place I have ever worked with. I stored my belongings from April to September and returned to find my unit had been infested by rats. Everything was covered with rat poop and all my storage boxes had been shredded. I had to throw everything in the unit away and was told nothing could be reimbursed in terms of paying for storage. The managers and staff were extremely unhelpful and blatantly did not care. They mentioned they have had issues with rats in the past but did not offer to reimburse me for everything that was damaged. I was given a pair of rubber gloves and a garbage bag and no help whatsoever. George forces you to give them a positive review before you even close our your account which is extremely deceiving and unfair. I understand pests are a problem in storage units but I have never encountered a situation like this and been so disrespected. I wish I never stored my stuff in the first place and it literally would have been cheaper to buy everything again. I would not recommend this storage place to literally anyone and regret spending even a single dollar here. They have no regard for their customers and the units are clearly not being taken care of! read more

My sister recently moved from DC to Boston and was in need of a storage unit for some of her stuff which didn't fit into her apartment. I originally went with the U-Haul based storage complex on Massachusetts Ave in Boston, however, when I arrived and checked out the unit, it was full of trash, rat feces, and there were people clearly on drugs coming in and out of the building. Even though U-Haul was giving us a free month because we had rented a one-way truck rental, we opted out of the storage unit with them due to safety, cleanliness, and general trust concerns. Last minute I was able to find ExtraSpace and they got me set up in 30 mins with a unit in their facility. I originally spoke with general customer service, but then got a call from Ino, the manager on duty, who was extremely helpful. Within 2 hours we were moved in and the facility was much nicer and cleaner than U-Haul, along with being in a safer location. Ino was professional, and extremely helpful in getting us taken care of, setup with a free month, and was a genuine pleasure, even though it was right at the end of the day on Saturday. We greatly appreciated it. With that said, I've read quite a few reviews of rents being unexpectedly increased a significant amount with little notice, and I am therefore keeping an eye out for any of this happening. But for the interim, I am pleased to have worked with a wonderful, accommodating, trustworthy manager with Ino, and highly commend him for his customer focus, general pleasantness, and overall high-level of professionalism. I highly recommend Ino and this ExtraSpace facility, and will be vigilant that my rates stay as offered and the excellent customer service thus far continues! read more

I thought I'd found an upstanding resource where I could rest easy that 1) My things were safe and 2) the price was reasonable. I believe #1 is still true. My things are safe. They monitor who goes in and out, the lighting is good and the management checks on things. #2 isn't true. They signed me up for one price, then, in 5 months, put the price up by $50. Though all their communication comes to me by email, they hid behind "not having my physical address" when they needed to notify me about the up-charge. Slimy business practice. This place actually deserves to be ranked on a different scale, one involving negative points for the sheer lack of customer service and basic decency, particularly on the part of one of its staff, Charlie Fox. A friend of mine sold me a very heavy real, wooden book shelf (6x7 feet) from her storage unit, and as I live literally a block away I anticipated being able to borrow / rent a cart from the establishment that I could use to get the piece back to my house without having to rent a truck for all of 1 minute of hauling. My friend and I politely asked, then nearly begged, Mr. Fox to allow us use of one of his several spare carts to help move the book shelf back to my house. This was late in the day on a Monday; we were the only ones going in and out of the business and one solitary cart would not have been missed for 20 minutes. His response was automatic and completely unconcerned for our predicament, "The carts cannot go off the premises." He repeated this unflinchingly 5-6 times as we tried to reason with him that it didn't make sense to rent a truck for this move, and that I would pay him whatever he asked, or leave whatever collateral he demanded. It was like dealing with a robot, not another human being who should be capable of compassion. Ultimately my friend and I carried the book shelf BY HAND back to my house through the snow, stopping every few feet to rest, and damaging the piece in the process. The whole ordeal took 4 times longer than it should have, nearly destroyed the shelf, and could have easily injured one of us in in the process. I cannot wrap my head around how someone could be such an asshole when doing the good and right thing to help out another person (not to mention one of his customers) would have been completely easy, requiring no effort or risk on his part, and even with the promise of generous payment. My friend will be closing her account with Extra Space Storage soon, citing that this incident was just the latest of many unfriendly encounters with Charlie Fox and his company. People deserve better treatment, and Extra Space Storage doesn't deserve anyone's business so long as people like Mr. Fox is representing them. read more

They start you off at a low (if you call $120 low) and then raised the fee somehow to 144. I tried to make a partial payment to manage the account a bit better financially, they don't allow partial pay. (rude whilst telling you that as well). As you can tell from the other reviews, avoid this place at all cost. They are rude, lack business ethic and are just an overall mess. You are better off paying a family member to hold your stuff than these crooks. read more

it was ok, overpriced in my opinion but we were in a pinch and this was the closest place to our dorm. The people were nice and the facility was clean. On our floor however, there was this nut job who would play in his storage closest. Out of the 6 times we went, he was there 5 times, shirtless and talking to himself. he had stacks of newspapers from the '80s and HAM radios and old electronics. It was bizarre. It's also not located in the best part of town, go during the day, it's safer that way. read more

I'm giving this place one star because I can't give it no stars. Awful experience. I made a reservations two weeks ago online and went over to see the unit. The guy said to come in and do the paperwork on the morning I wanted to start renting the unit. Said it couldn't take more than 5 minutes. So here it is, the weekend before Sept 1st in Boston. I get a uhaul, and bring my stuff over (I called the night before to make sure I was all set for the next day). There is one person working. Everytime he has to show someone a unit, he has to have everyone leave the office. They won't let people unload their trucks until their paperwork is filled out. To make matters worse, the only guy working is intent on taking as long as he can, and will stop and tell the person he's working with stories about anything. I got there at 12 o'clock and at 1:30pm he had gotten through 3 people. There were still 4 more people in front of me. As if moving day isn't bad enough, this guy was intent to just take his time with everything. Although I feel for him being the only person there. Just an awful place. Had them cancel my reservation and went to planet storage on Mass Ave near BUMC. 10000X better, and you can pull the truck right up to your unit. read more

Turns out my friend never got hers when I opened my own account, either! They have some stupid coupon policy and refuse to honor either referral, even though both myself and my referral mentioned these referral upon signup. Erica the customer service rep I spoke to told me there was nothing I could do, as did the infamous Charlie Fox. I warn you to keep an eye on your bill. Like other reviewers, I have had a very disappointing experience with the manager, Charlie Fox. He's either a complete idiot who doesn't understand the difference between "What is your corporate policy" and "Why do you have this corporate policy" or he's total jerk (possibly both). He hung up on me twice during a conversation where I was trying to understand a certain policy concerning payment. He just kept telling me "it's corporate policy" and that I didn't understand. I complained about him to the district manager, who was immediately able to answer my question, and said he would talk to Charlie about our conversation. He wouldn't, however, say "I'm sorry our manager treated you like that" because he hadn't heard Charlie's side of the story. Seriously? You don't have to mean it. You can laugh behind my back with Charlie about it. How hard is it to say "sorry" to a customer and win back their good will? I'm extra motivated to get rid of our overflow storage so we can stop dealing with these people. I'm tired of the rate hikes as well. read more

I had a pretty great experience with this place. I am a teacher and needed a storage unit for all my supplies over the summer because I was switching to a new school district. I got a 4 x 4 unit that was about 10 feet tall. It cost $90 per month but they were running a special where you get the first month free. So I only paid $90 for them to store everything for two months. It worked out perfectly for me :) I'm giving it only 4 stars because it took a long time to sign the paperwork when signing up and I was in a big hurry to get my stuff out of the old school....lame. Also their hours are okay but not great: 6am - 8pm. I found myself wanting to go outside of those times and obviously couldn't. The staff is super helpful and the location was very convenient for me. I never really went during busy times, so I was always able to find a cart and use the elevator, but I imagine during peak times you'd be screwed with a big heavy box. read more
