Great clean storage unit. It's really nice to have a parking area and entrance that's covered so if you're moving things and the weather is not favorable it won't impact the process. Ultimately, especially if you live or are moving to downtown Baltimore I recommend using this storage place as it affords you quick access to things you might not always want in apartments that are most likely smaller than if you lived further outside of the downtown area. Finally, the staff is very nice and helpful. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 as tars is because whenever I come after closing there's almost always homeless people sitting in the relatively small parking space. Nothing that keeps me from still dropping things off, but it can be a little alarming as there's one guy who's definitely struggling with mental health challenges and will randomly start yelling. read more

Took a unit there the last week of March and told the lady that I would only want it for a month. I got billed April 22 for the following month of May. I called today and spoke to KAYLA. I explained my situation and she told me she would see I got a refund. Then, the idiot changes her mind and decided it would be a great idea to mouth me off. Typical. KAYLA HAS A NASTY MOUTH. I started renting with Extra Space about a year ago. The two ladies that helped me were very nice and professional. I was initiated at a rate of about $65 per month for a 10x10 unit, which I thought was reasonable. However, I was aware of a potential scam when it was brought to my attention that the rate was temporary, and they were permitted to arbitrarily increase rates. When I began hesitating, the ladies ensured me that the increase would be minor. A mere 2-3 months later the increase was $140!!!! Furious, I called back and spoke to Nataki, who was amazing. She helped me through the situation before I went ballistic. I asked her if it was going to happen again. She informed me that they would increase the rates, but it would be a about a year before it happened and it would be very minor, like 10% increase or so. That appeased me at that time. Fast forward to today. I have currently been paying $96 per month and received a notice for an increase to $191 per month...yes, you see this correctly. A near $100 increase!!!! Absolutely insane. This isn't even ethical. How is this legal? I called again, and the lady I spoke with was very nice, but her help was to "drop it" to $146. This is a major scam. Be forewarned...they give you the intro price then, once you go through the trouble of moving, they don't just increase your rates, they price gouge you! And it's not a reasonable 10% either. I can't believe no one has looked into legal action YET. read more

Dang. This place is not only infested with mice/rats, their customer service is no bueno. We had storage with them for about two years--we never had any cooking wear or food stored but found rodent droppings every time we went to storage. Eeww! If you're trying to cancel your membership-call the national office. The local office will just tell you random info and then pretend like they never did. Just call the 1800 national office and talk to them if you have any problems. Glad we never have to store anything again! read more

Aside from the rent increase of 13% every 6 months it is mouse infested. A complaint about mouse infestation in April '16 held that month's increase down to only 3%! There is no evidence of facility wide pest control. I was handed some bags of rat poison. I am only in my unit every several months. It only contains boxes, books, hard furniture, a mattress, and a couch that the mice like very much. With the first discovery of mice, I had to empty my unit and clean everything. I threw out furniture blankets, arranged mattresses and belongings to eliminate hiding/nesting spots. Infestation continues in January '17. Two mice ran by me this morning at 8AM. When I left, I set snap traps. Will make another trip with sticky traps and more DCON. I cannot possibly control or affect the mice in a building with 100's of units. Will be getting the hell out of this building as soon as I can. read more

When you pay more for something you expect quality. At Extra Space Storage on 1400 Eastern Avenue you pay more and all you get is rat feces. Next month my bill will go up $10, a total of $30/month in fee increases in less than 12 months. I went down to the storage space to see if perhaps the extra money was going to a bigger space, or maybe less rat ordure, or perhaps a reprieve from a chronically broken Eastern Avenue facing gate? Nope. Just more rat manure. Despite its convenience to those living in Fells and Harbor East, I would not recommend storing anything here. You pay a premium and all you get is boxes covered in rat turds. But hey! At least the crap is climate controlled. read more

The movers who were moving people out leave much to be desired. They may be physically tired, but that doesn't mean you should be careless when it comes to sharing crowded space. Older red pick up truck, about 8 foot high with several poles stacked horizontally across the top, with 3 mover guys connected to it, were the accidental or intentional reason for damage to my car that exceeds the amount of money I would have saved in renting there. Enter into an agreement with Extra Space Storage and you'll experience increases every several months, starting at about the 5-month mark. These increases will equate to about 30% per year. My original agreement was for $75 per month back in November of 2013. In December of 2015 it was raised again to what is now $120 per month. This particular location allows people to smoke in the facility and live in their storage space. The people right directly across from my unit had a setup where they would sit and watch TV in their storage compartment. I'm still there, but will pay the cost to relocate my stuff sometime in the next 60 days. read more

This facility is poorly managed from a corporate leadership level. It's used as a homeless shelter on the 1st floor above ground units. I've on more then several occasions smelled crack being smoked or marijuana. I'm a former narcotics investigator. I've seen homeless people taking showers in the bathroom using the sink. I've witnessed needles on the floor in storage bathroom. I've brought the concern to management. I've shared the concern with upper management but they are focused on $$ and not safety at f employees and customers....sad! read more

We've rented a space almost since this location opened. It is generally clean, modern and a good location for us. Since we are a business, we were given 24-hour access, which has been great because we often have evening jobs and need to return equipment late night. Sunday night at 11:30 pm, however, we were unable to access our storage unit. My husband had been performing with his band that evening and we had a truck-load of heavy equipment to store. He has a bad back and I have a bad shoulder, and neither of us should be lifting, but we didn't think it would be an issue because all we were doing was taking the equipment down out of the truck. When we couldn't get into our storage unit, however, we had to carry the equipment up the stairs of our row house and stack it in our living room overnight, then hire someone to help move the equipment back into storage the next day. My husband injured his back in the process and spent most of the next day in bed. The manager admitted that the settings had been set incorrectly on our account, which is the reason we didn't have 24 hour access when we needed it. However, they were unwilling to give us a reduction in rent for the month to reimburse us for our extra expense, inconvenience and suffering. We are pretty angry and are now looking around for alternative storage options. read more

Also, although I haven't needed anything yet, they have a good variety of packing materials in the office. BEAWARE INFESTED DISGUSTING RATS OR ANIMALS INSIDE! This is the worst experience I ever had. I was away for 4 months when I came back and put new luggage in unit I slowly started noticing " Little black things" I never saw anything like this before at my previous storage place at first I didnt move the stuff out of the way to check out the whole unit couple weeks later I came back and I saw some flakes on top of my luggage then I came back the next day and there were more brown flakes on luggage I just put in. I talk to the manager and and she said it was rust well the next day the luggage was completely covered with brown flakes which looks like an animal shedding and there was droppings on brand new luggage. I saw droppings on top of the luggage which looks like they crawled on top. I immediately started calling the district manager it took him 1-2 week to get back to me. He told me to contact insurance company knowing good well that rodent defecation is not covered under Maryland law so the insurance company told me that they could not replacetge items. The managers are very unprofessional I used unit to store luggage I had no boxes or anything for a little animals to eat. Not sure what animals they have PLEASE READ THEIR REVIEWS I WAS STUPID TO FALL FOR THE TREACHERY! Everything was covered with droppings, lot of brown flakes as you see in the pictures urine and stains in the corners of the unit and in the middle of the floor where I had no luggage. My stuff was trashed they act like they do not care whatsoever and that this happens all the time. I Do not recommend rent at any extra storage place because the customer service is so bad and their lack of caring when your items get trashed. It looked to me like someone actually living inside unit with a pet? I don't think a rat can do that kind of damage but I don't know never had the experience. read more

Worst experience ever. First they promised that when I transfer units that I would get a new month free. When I called to confirm the date that I would be charged, it turns out I wasn't given that month free but insteadI would be charged $83 just a few days. Jonathan and Brandon both made it clear that I have the option of getting the Internet price or doing a transfer and I chose the Internet price. Again when I went to utilize the time that was promised to me of 30 days free, my account reflected that a transfer has been done which I had never authorized or signed for. When I went to Jonathan to explain what happened and what was promised to me, in person and over the phone, the only thing he could do was have an email sent to me that nothing would be done. He said even though they wouldn't offer me what Brandon and I had agreed on, I could move out early and get a prorated amount charged to me rather than the full month. Fast forward to today, I moved out and came downstairs to check out. Jonathan helped me, And I was surprised to learn that I had already been charged $80, rather than prorated for just a few days. This didn't surprise me very much and I wasn't too concerned until Jonathan said I have his word that he'll send an email asking for the difference to be credited to me. I said could I please have that in writing because Last time something was promised to me, management later denied what they had promised. Apparently there was no way to put in writing that I would get any refund. When I pushed further, Jonathan said he would try to do something but then he said in front of me for 35 minutes without speaking are updating me on what he was doing. I'm waiting for some sort of reassurance but then Jonathan makes a phone call to a colleague and talks for about 10 more minutes. When he gets off the phone we agree on a number that I should be prorated except that he's about to charge me for it, forgetting that I had already paid the $80 that we just talked about. I had to speak up and stop him from charging me additional funds rather then sending me a refund. Even when I brought this up to him he seemed confused like he didn't remember that I had already overpaid. I was glad that I stayed in person all this time to make sure that the billing was handled properly.at some point I decided to leave and let him handle the rest and on my way out I mentioned to Brandon that might experience was very poor. Brandon called me and agreed to what was originally promised at the beginning of this email. Will see if I ever get the refund but at this point I appreciated Brennans call. It's just too bad that it came after lots of frustration. These are very simple billing matters and clearly the system is not set up for customer service. read more

I was forced to find a new storage locker after my rent was increased over 50% in just over 2 years, from about $55 to $89 per month. There was never any explanation or justification for the increases. When I moved out (on Wednesday, 1/11/17), I found vermin damage, mouse droppings, and a dead mouse. Avoid at all costs. read more
