First I'd like to point out that for someone living in East Baltimore the location is fantastic. I'm in Fells Point and this was the closest and most convenient facility available with large outdoor storage. I had many small disasters the past year keeping my boat in the water so I decided to keep it on the trailer and launch as needed this year. The facility is maybe a mile and a half from the Canton War Memorial boat ramp, about as convenient as possible in the city. I could hook up my trailer and have the boat in the water in 15 minutes if all went well. The facility itself is clean, well kept, safe and secure. Shane and his wife, who run this storage facility, went above and beyond the expected level of customer service. I was having some repairs done in the spring that were taking weeks longer than expected. They held my spot on my word alone that I'd be leasing a space and were completely accommodating when I ran into problems and delays getting the boat and trailer there as planned. My trailer slightly exceeded the facility limits on length for outdoor spaces but they made it work anyway, without any hassle at all. Also, since I'd be bringing the boat back and forth on a regular basis they moved things around and found me a spot where I could easily pull the trailer in and out without being blocked by other vehicles. Anyone who's towed a trailer knows how much of a hassle backing in and out of tight spaces can be and they were eager to make my use of the facility as painless as possible. I have since moved my boat to an indoor boatel that is MASSIVELY more expensive and any bending of the rules or requests for special consideration are treated as a person affront to their business. Nothing like the family style operation at Self Storage Plus. It's refreshing that there are still some places that consider making the customer happy priority number 1. If you're looking for a storage facility in the city as far as I'm concerned there is no other choice.

The building is highly secured and surveillance. Parking is conveniently located close to the building so you didn't have to transport your belongings too far. There are trolleys for you to use and there was never a shortage of them. You need an access code to get into the storage building and to operate the elevator. Temperature in the elevator was kind of brutal during the summer months, but was well controlled in the units itself. The property is clean and highly organized. The main office even has tons of boxes and moving packages to purchase from for a very reasonable price. Sue was always the most helpful whether I had a question or had to change my move-out date, she was my go-to girl- always returning my calls. My entire unit was completely destroyed by a massive vermin infestation through absolutely no fault of my own. To make matters worse, Public Storage engages in highly deceptive practices. They have a sign proudly displayed in the leasing office advertising insurance coverage limits of $2,500/$5,000 through Orange Door, and staff verbally assured me I was protected. Now that my items are ruined, they are trying to hide behind a buried clause that caps vermin damage at a measly $250. It is insulting and completely unethical. Management utterly failed to maintain a clean, safe building. Safe your money and your belongings--go anywhere else.

He was very pleasant and professional over the phone. I arranged to come in on Saturday to see the unit and fill out paperwork. Saturday I received another call from Eric to confirm that coming in that day would still be convenient for me. While in route to the facility I received another call from Eric (by this time I'm saying "chill out with the calls buddy") but because I was close to the facility I did not answer. I arrived to a very well maintained office. I was greeted by Eric who was assisting another customer. After finishing with that customer Eric assisted me. I told him who I was and he said jokingly "I knew you were going to come just when I was about to go to lunch, I tried calling you, to let you know I was about to go to much so that you would come and miss me"... OOPS maybe I should have answered that phone call lol. I told him that I could return later and that I didn't want to hold him up from his lunch break but he insisted on getting me taken care of. I was escorted to the storage facility Eric showed me how I would use a code to get into the gate, the same code was needed for use of the elevators. The storage facility was very clean. I was shown my actual unit which was in excellent condition. After my approval of the unit we went back to the office, filled out the paperwork (electronically) and I was done. In and out in less than 20 mins and it didn't feel rushed. I was highly impressed by the cleanliness of the facility, the security measures that are in place to secure your property, and Eric's customer service. Not too many people (including me) are willing to push back their lunch break to assist a customer and he was the only employee on site that day, impressive. Customer service at its finest.

There prices have gone up quite a bit - just this last month my rent raised $66. No heads up. No…read moreemail. No notice. A straight $66 increase - with no reason stated. The unit itself is decent. They have handcarts that are free to use and that's a nice gesture. However, loading and unloading are a pain because you need to put in your code each time you come in and out - and if you're literally in process of moving from the dock to the unit, the door needs to be closed in between each run (this happened when the moving company I hired was moving me in - even though they had their guys in the truck on the dock, the door couldn't be propped open while they loaded into the unit.) This means you'll need to be at the door letting your movers in and out the entire time because the door opens by bluetooth code only. Really a pain when you likely will need to be at your unit organizing / directing where things go. Another big negative - they have motion sensor lights above the units. So when you're in your unit, and you're reorganizing or looking for something, roughly every 30 seconds the lights will turn off above you. You'll need to motion them in just the right way to get the lights to come back on. VERY inconvenient. I asked the property manager at the front desk what the deal with that was and she simply said "sorry, we can't do anything about it." You... can't put properly functioning lights above the storage units? The one you're raising my rent on for $66 out of the blue for? Come on now... I don't recommend this storage unit.

I come trundling back with an over- and awkwardly loaded cart. Stuff falling off, bonking the walls. With no detectable attitude of, "You dumbass" that I deserved, Anthony offered to help and did--for about ten minutes, until my cargo and I were packed safely into the elevator. Later, because this is the kind of day it was, I broke the key off in the lock. Anthony smilingly to the rescue again. With a paperclip, a few deft taps, and well-placed fingernails, he coaxed the key carcass from its sarcophagus. He sold me a new lock and said If I can retrieve the other key and return it with the lock I can return the one I bought. His manner is gentle, genial, professional. I would recommend this facility--which is also clean and well-run--to anyone for whom it's remotely convenient.
