Expressway Pit Beef - Barbeque Near Me - Odenton, Maryland

Loved the food, but we both agree it was too expensive. We came for lunch quite a few times, but probably wont be back for a bit since its winter time now. Might want to consider changing the price point to encourage more repeat customers. Also, maybe make a unique app/side dish that goes well with the bbq and smoked meats. We found it a little difficult to find an app that was not fried. Will return in the summer to see how the local small business is doing! Jake n kev read more

When we used to live in Odenton, we ordered from here several times a year. My husband and son love their wings. We've also gotten several assorted barbecue platters. However, my absolute favorite thing on their menu are there baked beans. I have never had baked beans as good as this, no matter where else I have ordered them. I literally would eat them by the bucket full! You would never know this great barbecue stand existed if you were not an Odenton local. They are located right next-door to the local Ace Hardware store. They are very unassuming looking, but absolutely worth checking out. I have had several of their pit beef sandwiches, as well as their other size. I have not been disappointed with anything. But again, I cannot say enough about their baked beans! It's crazy how something so simple can be prepared in such a way that they are so unforgettable. If you're in the area, you definitely need to stop by and check them out. They offer order ahead so you can just go and pick it up. It's very convenient. If you are looking to support a wonderful locally owned barbecue spot, you must check them out. read more

Food looked so delicious and tasted mediocre. Bbq sauce was good but ribs were tough, Mac and cheese good also and greens lacked seasoning. Service top tier as well. read more

They are great for catering as well! Laurel Wreath Lodge #149, A.F. & A. M., booked Expressway Pit Beef for our annual BBQ. We ordered Pit Beef for pickup to bring to our event. the ordering process was super easy! I called them weeks in advance and they gave me great advice as to how much Pit Beef per person we should order. They told me I could give them 24 hours' notice and they'd have it ready for pickup. What a relief not to worry about this crucial part of the our BBQ! I called them a few days ahead, and they had the beef ready for pickup right on time. They also provided BBQ sauce, sliced onions and horseradish. They even loaded it into the car for me! The pit beef was a huge hit! The food quality is absolutely superb! It's classic pit beef the way only Marylanders will understand. Of course, I had to go back a few days later to return the pallet they had provided to hold the pans of beef. (Darn!) BTW, don't sleep on the Italian Sausage sandwich with peppers and onions! It's perhaps the most underrated item on their menu. read more

I love this place, food is A1 I feel at home when I'm eating here. They treat me with so much respect

Known affectionately as "The Beef Stand," Expressway Pit Beef is a great stop if you're looking for some good, fast eats that is meant to be grab-and-go. This stand may not look like much, and you might assume it is just pit beef given the name, but they offer pulled meat sandwiches, ribs, wings, chicken and apps too. I'm not a pit beef gal myself, but I've seen their sandwiches and they are stacked full with meat - not bad for about $8. I opted for the wings, which were decent-sized, but seemed too quickly coated in sauce. I don't think there are many other places where you can grab pit beef in the area, so it is truly a neighborhood classic. During the summer, you'll see that they have lines going. I have not been back during covid-19, but have driven by and saw people waiting in line. read more

disgusting food, owner is a witch and rude to customers and you have to wait over 30 mins per meal if your lucky to not argue over what you paid for and didn't receive. do not buy food from here or support these people. they block bad reviews so people don't know the truth. reporting them tomorrow. She also yelled at the customer in front of me and sooner or later going to attack the wrong person who claps back. bbb and health dept are being contacted along with reporting them to Facebook and social media for taking down reviews and comments to hide the truth about their business read more

The man at the register had great customer service. He was patient as I asked questions to order. We ended up getting the bulldog , potatoe salad, cornbread, fries and chicken BBQ Sandwich and fried mushrooms. It took maybe 15 mins. Everything was correct. 2 Sauces were so good its like a vinegar sweet tangy BBQ! Really good. The sausage i thought would be more spicy as I got it hot but everything was yummy! Husband is picky and ate all of his and he really liked the cornbread too. All together it was 31$ and I felt we got alot of food read more

Am slowly doing a Maryland Pit Beef tour. This was pretty good. Ordered pit beef sandwich, which was very good, and ribs, where were really really good. I'll take away two half stars away for (1) they said 15 minute wait for the ribs, but was more like 30 minutes (worth the wait,.however) (2) the pit beef sandwich could have used some sauce, maybe a bit of horseradish but we didn't think to ask for any. Its my opinion that as a take put place they should ask if you want any. Anyway, worth the stop, I'll go back if I'm in the area. Seating prohibited for the time being bc of covid-19. Seating is mostly open air, so be mindful of that if you plan on eating there read more

The pitbeef was really good. Friendly staff. Outdoor seating. The fries were good too.

My dad was in the neighborhood and decided to bring some carryout home for lunch. I wish he would have kept driving. The fries were burnt and soggy with grease. The four fries we ate that weren't burnt tasted like old grease and had a weird aftertaste. We threw them all in the trash, as they were inedible. The Pit Beef sandwich was okay, but nothing to write home about. The sandwich had huge chunks of beef which made it hard to eat since they kept falling off the sandwich. The sauce was okay. The bun was fresh, but cold. The chicken BBQ sandwich was dry as a bone. The chunks of chicken were so dry that I could barely tear them apart with my fingers. We would not return. read more

This is the best bbq in the area. When we moved to the area we were looking for a great place and we found it. Everything on the menu is good and homemade. The ribs are to die for!!!! Please when these guys are open and you don't want to cook check this spot out. read more

I had been passing this place for a few months before I finally got a chance to try it. I usually go all the way to Baltimore for pit beef, and so when I saw this place in Odenton there was no way I could pass it up. I was coming back from the antique shop up the street with my family, and decided to check it out. The line wasn't crazy, but it was steady from the time we pulled, and the same when we left. One lady stopped us to to give some advice and tell us how good the food was here. It's safe to say that we were expecting great things. The people working the counter were very friendly, and were patient with us as first timers, that were trying to get together a large 6 person order. The wait was about 15 minutes, but we were shaded and had some wind blowing so it was okay. I even ordered a snow cone for the wait which was really good. We ended up ordering a rib dinner, bbq chicken sandwich dinner, double footlong with chili and cheese, 2 half smoke, pit beef sandwich, pit nuggets, and some corn nuggets. The break down: The ribs seemed to have no seasoning on the meat except the sauce. Once you got past the sauce the meat was a bit bland. The pit beef was dry, and there was no sauce offered, in sight or given with the sandwich to help it out. The double footlong was just 1 footlong cut in half, which may have been a mess up in the kitchen, but still it wasn't anything out of this world. The pit nuggets, which the name alone makes you think that they have there own thing they do with the nuggets, but nope, just regular old chicken nuggets. So why call them pit nuggets? The mac and cheese was maybe the worst i've ever tasted, and had a strange after taste. One taste and the 3 orders were thrown away. The fries are really good, they reminded me of boardwalk fries, and the corn nuggets were also tasty. The stand out at this shop was easily the Snow Cone I had during the wait. The ribs, and the pit beef sandwich were discarded after barely being touched, we thew away more money then we ate at this place. I was really shocked that it ended up being this way. I gave them a 3 star rating because of how good the service was, and because outside of my families experience it was easy to see that alot of people really like this place. Safe to say that for me, I'll be back to baltimore the next time I want pit beef, and as far as the ribs go. I've had better. read more

The best campfire beans! The pit beef is awesome! Have been coming here for years and it never disappoints

Went back and got 2 beef sandwiches to go and baked beans and macaroni salad. The beef though well done was tender and had a great grilled taste. The beans were tasty and the macaroni salad was old school, but dressed well and not dry. The guy handing out the food was very helpful. read more

Looks like a cute local place; however, food was terrible and service was slow. BBQ chicken was undercooked and tasted like it had been cooked in the microwave and plastered with sauce. Ribs and pit beef were very bland. No seasoning or smoky flavoring on anything. Even the Mac n' cheese tasted terrible--not real cheese. Worst meal we have had in a long time! read more

I want to be brutally honest I consider myself a food connoisseur. I ordered $75.10 worth of food which included one rack of ribs 20 wings macaroni and cheese mashed potatoes and gravy and collar greens. The collar greens were decent but I can tell that they were from can. As for the rest of the food it was absolutely terrible for the price. I will drive a farther distance next go round. I did not think that any take out place sold artificial mashed potatoes. read more

---3.5 Stars--- With a name like Expressway Pit Beef, I decided to make a pit stop to fill up on protein after my workout. Instead, the Yellow flag must've been out b/c the food took some time. Still, I'll wait for good meat. Tofu parading around as meat, on the other hand.... Food - Shane claims to have a rib shack, but this place is more like a shack than Shane's Rib Suite in a Strip Mall. The ribs are country style ribs rather than spareribs, so they are very fatty and have smaller bones. The 1/2 rack for 2 (w/ FFs, + 2 small sides = $15) was tasty, though it made me feel rather huge since i could easily eat it by myself. It was an hour till closing time, so I was disappointed that they were out of Pit Pork, so I settled for the Pit Beef. The roll was tasty and the beef was tender and flavorful. The fries are freshly cut and fried, which reminds me a lot of Five Guys fries. The mac salad was great but the coleslaw spent way too much time in the food processor and was soaked in sugar, water, and mayo, which normally isn't a bad thing but in this case it was horrible. I believe they use Heinz BBQ sauce or some other packaged sauce, which is pretty basic. Service - The workers here are really endearing. Being a wannabe BBQ Master in training, I know that when you BBQ, you sweat, and the workers here don't work in an A/C kitchen - they have a few fans to keep them cool. In fact, after they completed my order, one of the workers walked next door to 7-11 to get some Gatorade. Something about that just struck a chord in my cholesterol-laden, BBQin on the weekends heart. So even though it was hot outside and I waited about 25 minutes for my food, I didn't feel a bit of frustration. Location - About 5 minutes from the 175 Exit off of 32; so it's not too far from Columbia. They do have outdoor dining but it's right next to ACE Hardware's cardboard recycling, top soil, and mulch - not exactly my idea of fine dining. I think that's getting a little TOO authentic with the "eating BBQ in my own backyard." So I recommend getting it to go! A little out of the way, but great BBQ nonetheless. They also have catering services - my wife has had their catering before and they bring grills/smokers out to the site and cook the food fresh. Once I try the Pit Pork, I'll update this review. Summer hours (May-Aug) Close @ 9 M-Th, 10-F-Sat Winter hours (Sept-Apr) Close @ 8 M-Th, 9 F-Sat Closed on Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!!! read more

Pit Beef... It was kinda bland, not seasoned enough, had to douse it with bbq sauce and threw the tasty slaw on top to make it edible. The beef was cooked mid rare and was moist, but not flavored which probably is the recipe for this joint. Props though for the juicyness of the sandwich. For under $10 I got a good sized sandwich, small order of yummy cole slaw, bag o' fries 5 guys style, and sweet tea. That is not bad at all! Place had plenty of outdoor seating and friendly customer service. Best time to arrive would be 12PM ;-) This is for you Peterson and Smith! read more

Good pit beef sandwich and great onion rings. Chocolate shakes also really good. Outdoor seating is available.

Great find!!! I am from Baltimore where it isn't hard to find good pit beef. For the past decade I have lived in Annapolis and been very disappointed. Last year we moved to Pasadena, still no luck. We kind of just stumbled on Expressway, and it is probably one of THE BEST pit beef sandwiches that I've ever had!!!!! My hubby says the BBQ pork is very good as well! Way to go Expressway. We will be back! read more

Excellent food; great service! Wonderful restaurant with reasonable prices. Two sloppy Joe's (and I mean sloppy!) for $6. You can't beat that price anywhere. Excellent home-made burgers, pulled pork sandwiches, wings, and to my surprise the fish and chips - all good,. Will certainly frequent this place often. Check out this place. You won't regret it. read more

This place is amazing. My husband and I are foodies and have been all over the world. The ribs are amazing. Pulled pork also amazing. Baked beans has real pork in it -- amazing. Real German potatoe salad -- amazing. Cole slaw -- amazing. All homemade. The ribs are the best I've ever had anywhere. Note: I don't recommend the turkey sandwich or other sliced meat sandwiches. Reason being that it is like deli meat that is smoked. They also only have white buns, which I can't have. They should consider offering the sandwiches as lettuce wraps to attract the Keto and gluten free crowds. Anyway, this place's ribs and pulled pork are better than even Hideaway IMHO. Try for yourself. Amazing! read more

Classic pit beef. Good sides. Quick and friendly service. Would be a 4.5 stars if I could give.

Best meal I've had near Ft Meade in ages. My date ordered the pit beef meal and I ordered a BBQ sandwich. My guy slathered on a little horseradish had only good things to say about his sandwich. The bbq was nicely seasoned and had just the right amount of sauce. The fries were hot and fresh, but a bit greasy for my tastes. The potato salad was excellent, but the portion was a little small. This is a picnic, not a restaurant...you order and pick up at the window and have a seat at the picnic tables, eat in your car, or carry your food away. Despite the fries, I'll be back...I'll just be trying the other sides. read more

I had a taste for some pit beef. I searched the web for places near my house and work. Expressway came up, so I asked my husband if he could stop on the way home from work and pick some sandwiches. We both got pit beef. My sandwich was loaded with beef and was sooo tender! Absolutely delicious! Hubby got fries and I got potato salad. Nothing to complain about here! Highly recommend! read more

Up to now, a pit beef sandwich was a go to every time I visit a relative who lives near. In the midst of the COVID stay at home, I phoned in my order and paid over the phone with a creditcard. The point was not to touch anything and minimize contact. I was shocked when I was asked to sign my slip with the same pen the previous client used. To make it worst, the two employees I saw didn't have a mask or gloves. Most places have drawn lines at 6 feet and have put a plexiglass type of barrier between the cashier and the client. Very disappointing, I hope the person cooking the food took more precautions. They have lost me a customer. read more

I got the shredded beef with sauce sandwich and fries. Just ordinary. Lots of sauce-too sweet but Spivey. Fries were basic.

Great pit beef pork and fries. I highly recommend this spot for their quality and service.

Turkey sandwich was awesome super tender def worth it not much of a fan of there pit beef

I cannot believe I have driven by this gem a thousand times and only went last Thursday and oh by the way back on Friday. This is old school BBQ where you stand outside and order then eat there on a picnic table or like me take it home. Their BBQ ribs are the best I have ever eaten, not just around here but anywhere. Their baked pork and beans are fabulous the collards are unlike anything I can remember. I also ate their fish and chips but they gladly let me sub collards for chips, they were awesome. This place is legitimate and puts all other BBQ places in a distant 3rd, my new go to place. read more
