Walking into Legacy I have never had that experience. Each new person is brought into our family. I have been going to this studio for 9 years and each year brings new experiences, great people, and a whole lot of fun. I've found myself wanting to explore every form of dance that has ever been created and goodness knows this studio has no shortage of them. I'm amazed that in 9 years I have not only expanded on my technique but I never ran out of things to learn.

The location is great for us and my daughter just likes acting goofy so we let her stay for now. If she continues to be interested, I will put her in a more serious program. On the administrative side, it's been less than stellar given early troubles with costume ordering. We followed details to a T, and as a first time dance mom was a bit neurotic. Costumes arrived and you not only had to melt her I to it, but craftsmanship was poor as there were visible tears in the fabric in multiple spots. Uncertain of what to do, I naturally turned to the dance studio front staff who were rude and basically said I must not have paid attention to the instructions. Needless to say, I was clearly on my own to find a remedy which was not only irritating and confusing but costly. On a side note, and maybe by design but the front lobby is always packed and boiling degrees given it's small cramped size.

My kiddo just turned 2 and is in the tutu toddlers class (18m-3y). The teacher is great with the kids, and there's enough structure in the class for the kids to know what to do/expect next, but it's also very flexible for when toddlers inevitably don't follow directions. There's a warm up, ballet moves with lots of props (wands, feathers, ribbons, etc) to make it fun, a classical ballet story time, and a corresponding coloring page to end the class. Moms are welcome to be with kiddos at this age to help them through class. There's a play corner with a kids table, books, and blocks for before and after class, a kid (and baby) friendly restroom, and sitting area for parents too. There aren't as many mirrors as I would expect from a ballet studio (and no barre?) but my kiddo doesn't need either of those.

After posting my review, 2 of the choreographers made a choice to corner me at rehearsal, and be verbally aggressive in front of MY children and other people's children. When I tried to express why I felt the way I felt, they both kept interrupting me. After that I told them that everything was expressed to the owner and nothing had changed. I then told them that my kids may not be there Saturday and one of the teachers said "Good, period" and snapped his fingers. Acting this way in front of, about, and towards a neurodivergent child in your class is unprofessional. All of this behavior because I stood up for my kids, asked questions to the owner, and didn't receive much feedback or change. Even after this incident I have reached out to the owner multiple times with zero response. A teacher can be "fun" in the face of everyone but if they can't be professional when there are questions or concerns and choose to be verbally aggressive, all of your credibility goes out the window. I dont care how many awards a studio wins, especially if the example they are teaching is that a child's feelings and willingness to be better, does not matter. All that to say I was super intimidated to take the plunge now, in my late 30s. I started with a Saturday afternoon line dancing workshop. I was immediately put at ease by the friendliness and the diversity of ages, sizes, and shapes of people that I found taking the class with me. After my wonderful experience at the workshop, I signed up for beginning modern jazz. Tracey Durbin is an amazing teacher! I was up-front with her about my lack of experience and nervousness. She put me at ease by reminding me that everyone is here to have fun, period. I have now signed up for my second session and I have no plans to stop!
