I started going to Heat Studio about a month ago and I am hooked!! Jake, Andrew & Meg are highly skilled professionals who know what they are doing. Right from day 1, Jake paid attention to my technique and helped me improve my form. The classes are engaging and fun. I'd definitely recommend Heat Studios to anyone looking to get into a workout routine. read more

There is truly no other gym in Raleigh that is in this class of fitness! Jake and Meg and the entire HEAT family of coaches and trainers are top notch. They truly care about your fitness and watching you succeed and celebrating your wins! Jake's skill at programming is well thought out for performance, progression, moving well in your body and increasing function of your body - he truly listens and watches and coaches each person to their peak experience. It is truly a gift! I always leave feeling better and more invigorated than when I walked in. The other thing that is quite inspiring is the community of people who come to classes. Everyone cheers you on and celebrates and works hard together. It is a truly an experience like no other. And the best part is that you get to keep your results!!! Thanks HEAT for keeping the fun in strength training, teaching safe technique and bringing the spice! read more

I first came across Heat in 2017 when there was a Yelp event there. I actually loved the workout and signed up for a class package which I of course never used because I'm lazy and would just rather eat ice cream at Two Roosters than bother to go to the gym. Fast forward to 2022 and I've actually gotten a lot more active since 2017 so I decide to give this whole gym thing another try. I love doing outdoor cardio stuff like biking, hiking, running etc... but strength training has always kind of intimidated me just because I've never done it. Heat has made it really easy to jump into it without making me look like a total idiot at a regular gym. There's really only two classes - Heat Strength on Mon/Wed/Fri and the regular Heat class on the other days that is more cardio/HIIT focused. The typical class involves some stretching/warm-up exercises, a few stations/circuits and then a finisher. Also most of the classes are partner/group based, which makes it easy for people to meet each other and develop familiar faces they see at classes. I've taken classes so far with Jake, Jena, Megan and Sara Ray and everybody has made the classes really fun (Jena is the most energetic person I've ever met for morning classes) and easy to jump into whether you're a beginner or experienced. I probably wouldn't have noticed that I just spent an hour there if I wasn't all sweaty at the end of it. Definitely have enjoyed adding a class or two each week to my fitness routine and would recommend to anyone in the downtown area. read more

5 Stars Heat Team!!! Shout out to Jake and the Heat team!!! Awesome workout guys. I absolutely love the location of this studio. It's prime central to everything downtown. It's smack dab in the middle of the hustle and bustle of downtown and that to me sets the tone for the high energy workout you receive when the class starts. Jake did an amazing job starting us off slowly and eventually working us up to a high energy fan bike workout. That bike was made by the devil himself. I've never rode one and I normally by pass it when working out in the gym but I had no choice today as Jake made us rode that bad boy in groups of four. Man was I pushed by my team mates not to stop. The team collaboration was awesome as it fueled the workout with extra energy making stoping and taking a breath impossible. The yoga cool down at the end was right on time. Our instructor was a jewel. She was calm, relaxed and full of energy on and off the mat. She made yoga for a first timer easy! Yes this was my first experience with yoga and I do feel the extreme stretch that you gain from it. Amazing team. I'll be back to experience this soon! read more

I stumbled upon Heat about 2 years ago when I realized that I was miserable and felt like a potato nonstop (while I was eating on the roof of Hibernian Pub). I was really nervous attending my first class because I'd never actually taken a workout class before, and I was far from the best shape of my life. Literally everyone there was super kind, thoughtful, and there to help me achieve my personal goals - the owners (Megan & Jake), all of the instructors, even the attendees themselves. I didn't feel out of place like I thought I would. They made classes FUN, exciting, and something I started to look forward to every week. I began to understand that "getting in shape" didn't mean I needed to be miserable and workout for 2 hours every day. It meant finding motions that worked for me and that I enjoyed and slowly building myself up from there. I learned life lessons from them that I've applied to my lifestyle even to this day. They inspired me to workout, because above all it made me FEEL GOOD, and in time the weight came off. I lost 40 lbs over my time at Heat - with just one class a week, because that one class got me excited about working out on my own as well. So if you're in a place where you aren't sure what to do, but know that you need a change, please check them out for even just one class. I know you'll be hooked just like I was! read more

I had truly the most bizarre experience at HEAT, and I'm sad to give it only 3 stars. I went one morning at 5 am (on ClassPass) and was the only first-timer there. The instructor was very nice and introduced herself to me, gave me a very general overview of the gym, and then we went right in to the workout. It was partner-based; while one partner did the set, the other partner waited. So literally while my partner worked out, I had free time to walk around, check my phone, respond to emails, etc. At first both my partner and I thought this was a mistake -- surely we had misheard the instructor -- but when we asked for clarification she repeated that one partner can workout, while the other is "just chillin!". So, though it was a 45 minute glass, I literally only worked out for 20 minutes. One of the workouts was chin-ups, which admittedly I cannot do w/o band assistance. The instructor I think expected everyone to be able to do their set of chin ups and I was just awkwardly hanging on the bar, unable to pull myself up lol. Eventually I did find bands I could use but it was too late to go grab em. So that entire set was also wasted for me since I couldn't do it. All in all, this was a very odd experience for me. I have not gone back because I'd hate to wake up at 4am again only to have a very disappointing gym experience. If I'm waking up uber early, the workout better be worth it! read more

Went to a class here this past weekend to prepare for a runway show that I am modeling in next week at The Orange Peel in Asheville, NC. This class kicked my booty! I mean that in the best way possible. I usually do light cardio and yoga - and doing a class here was a great way to mix up my workout routine. Definitely worked some core muscle groups, which I can feel the result of today. Caitlyn was an awesome trainer. They actually played dubstep music - which I was like in shock because I never hear dubstep in Raleigh (I make EDM music) - so that was phenomenal! You can't beat the location either as it is in perfect walking distance in the heart of downtown Raleigh to go grab a bite to eat or a mimosa (Ha!) after a weekend workout. read more

I absolutely LOVE the entire Heat family, but I gotta give it to my main man Brandon!!!!! For the last 2 months, Brandon has been my personal trainer. I lost 7 lbs of fat, gained roughly 3 lbs of muscleand my BMI went down 2%. IN 2 MONTHS!!!! Aside from being a top notch trainer, Brandon is just an awesome dude. You can tell how much he cares about his clients. When we reviewed my progress today, you could see him absolutely beaming, even behind his mask. I could tell he was so proud of how hard I've worked and how far I've come. You really can't get a better experience than that! read more

Heat Studios is my jam! They also play awesome jams to help pump you up for your workout which is a big plus. I usually go to the 7:15am class with Jeremey on Thursdays. He is an awesome instructions, gives helpful corrections, and is happy to answer all my questions. He also makes a point to remember your name which I think is always a nice touch. The workout is different every week so you won't get bored of it, it is usually strength training with some cardio thrown in as well. Parking is super easy since there is a huge lot in the back of the building that you can use. I'm sure it gets busier later in the day, but for the AM classes you won't have a problem at all. They have a new member special if you aren't sure how much you want to commit yet, they also offer some classes through class pass! read more

This review is to specifically shout out one of Heat studio's trainers, Jenna! I signed up for a 3 for $99 package really to test my current strength, ability, and determine whether I am fit enough to sign up for a monthly membership with Heat. Not only is she enthusiastic, but she's genuinely helpful and supportive. I've personally felt like I didn't exactly belong in gym settings due to not so great past experiences, but Jenna is helping me find my confidence! Thank you! read more

I went to a class from class pass and overall found the class mediocre. The facility is really cool and definitely has enough options to work every muscle group, many cardio options, and make it so you never get bored. However, I felt like much of the class time was spent either explaining the moves or waiting on your partner to do something where my heart rate did not stay up. There were many transitions, almost too many so that you did not get in a groove with one of the exercises. I love when instructors explain the next movement while you are still currently doing the previous movement. I would say that all in all the explanations and waiting took a good 20 min from the workout Update: Thanks for the reply! It was actually a HIIT class on a Saturday, exercises were all great, just a lot of transitions before fatigue could set in, I just recommend doing longer intervals read more

So I am incredibly picky with gyms. I moved to Durham from Boston 1.5 years ago, and the hardest thing about the transition was leaving my gym there! I've been looking for a replacement since, and in general, I've been uninspired by the offerings in the Triangle. But then HEAT opened! In a word, it is AWESOME. So awesome that yes, I "commute" in from Durham to work out there. The reason I go to a gym is the classes. You can run outside and lift weights in your living room - in my opinion, classes are the best part of a membership. HEAT is entirely class-based, so it's not technically a gym. Just really amazing classes in a fun space in downtown Raleigh. Whatever your fitness level, prepare to get your butt kicked - every class leaves me drenched in sweat! Most of the classes incorporate cardio and strength training, so you get the whole package. The instructors are great - they're all super fit, energetic, and knowlegeable - they're the real deal. The classes are intense, but it's not an intimidating environment at all. Everyone is super nice and encouraging. Robin is the owner, and she's great. She's welcoming, friendly, and you can tell she's passionate about what she does. Really every class I've been to is amazing . . . the ones I've tried so far: the signature HEAT class, taught by Mike, Brandon, Tony, or Robin - all four are fabulous. You alternate between treadmill work and weights, it's a great workout. The TRX class is very cool - you do strength/resistance exercises using straps anchored to the ceiling, so you're working with your own body weight. I've been through a lot of classes/workouts in my lifetime and there were some exercises in that class I had never done before. And Shock Treatment with Julian is fabulous. He's a very dynamic instructor - you don't even mind the pain because he keeps the energy and music up the whole class. :-) If you can't tell, I have a slight obsession this place - my only complaint is that they don't have one in Durham! read more

My oh my, where do I start? This gym blows my mind. I've done pretty much all types of athletic training: resistance bands, med balls, pilates, bikram and power yoga, ballet, kettlebells, cross fitness, and jumprope. The key to the classes' success is that it mixes up high intensity cardio with body work using gravity. Basically you use straps hanging from the ceiling. These straps have loops on the bottom for your feet and/or hands. Imagine a resistant band with the handles except there is no give with these straps. So quite a different way to shock your body. Then add high intensity intervals on the treadmills. Alternate that for five minutes and you get a gut busting, calorie burning, fat burning, elite athlete training. Essentially that's what you're doing. Training like a professional athlete but without the sport specific part. To make it even better, the instructors really know how to push you so that you go that extra inch or mile. I was sweating so hard within the first 15 minutes in Robin's class. Trickles of sweat ran down my arms, face, I felt like I was doing a Bikram class, I was sweating so hard! These classes are way better than any other class I've taken because they follow the same formula that many competitive elite athletes use (HIIT or some variation, mixed with body work) and add a twist to the weight work (gravity with straps!) to give you results FAST. The best instructor has to be Robin. She pushes me like no other, there are never any lulls in the air, you hear her encouraging you and pushing you. Five stars for quality of class. Five stars for facility (free water fountains!!). Five stars for ingenuity of class. And five stars for the instructors, but especially Robin! read more

Really can't say enough good things about this place. It's like having a personal trainer working you through a group workout. If you need a little extra encouragement to get through your workout routine, the trainers here are exactly what you need. I have been coming to HEAT for the past three or so years. It is by far my favorite gym in the area. It is impossible to go to a HEAT class without getting drenched with sweat. There are multiple different styles of classes that are offered at HEAT, all of which are guaranteed to push you to your limits. All classes can accommodate any different athletic level. If you are just getting started working out, or you just ran your third triathlon of the year, these classes will make you work to your full potential. PROS: The equipment is top notch, and the gym is noticeably cleaner than most other gyms I've seen in the area. It's hard to find better trainers then they have at this gym. Very easy to sign up for classes online. Classes are offered throughout the day. They usually even have classes on holidays for people who are looking to sneak in a workout. CONS: The classes are almost guaranteed to fill up, so make sure you reserve online and show up with a little bit of time to spare. If you're not used to parking downtown on a busy street, then you might want to consider that as well. read more

I have a confession to make: I spent my entire day off watching back-to-back episodes of True Blood. I made it through two seasons. I wasn't merely a couch potato - the couch and I were becoming one. How does one bounce back from lethargy this epic in nature?? The answer, my friends, is HEAT. As you've probably gleaned from the other 5-star reviews here, HEAT isn't your run-of-the-mill (no pun intended... seriously) gym. What it is is a class-based studio offering interval training, cycling and even ballet-based workouts that give workout boredom a serious smackdown. For my first foray into HEAT, I jumped right into the Tread and Shred class, which uses alternating intervals of treadmill work and exercises using TRX bands (for those not familiar - these are elastic bands suspended from the ceiling that allow you to use your own body weigh for resistance,) With the moves and intervals changing so often, there's no time to get bored. And if you're not into what your doing - never you fear; it's going to change in thirty seconds. The music was thumping, our instructor, Mike, kept the energy high and the studio is a gorgeous urban playground. I've previously tried Margot's Ballet Burn - she's an amazing person and instructor and offers a workout like nothing you've ever experienced and has somehow mastered a rare combination of fun and torturous :) So, for those of you in a workout rut, I highly recommend gettin' on down to Glenwood South and getting into HEAT. read more

Ballet Burn with Margot is the best for several reasons: she is wise with talent, gives attention to those that need it (at their own pace), and makes you feel welcome. The studio itself is comfortable and unpretentious. It truly was a treat! I hope my slack-arse returns soon and gains strength. Look forward to checking out their other unique classes... Oh, and you can sign up/cancel online. Each trainer's schedule is available - the easiest athletic training establishment I've seen (that covers Charlotte, Greensboro and the Triangle!) read more

This is not your traditional gym. There are no boring, monotonous Les Mills classes here. I've been a lifelong athlete, and HEAT has offered me the best workout of my life time and time again. HEAT provides group fitness classes that leave you feeling like you just completed a personal training session (which they also provide). The studio combines cardio and strength conditioning in a ton of different ways. Your muscles will not be bored. The great part about HEAT is that you set your own pace. The trainers are incredibly motivating, and I always end up pushing myself HARD. Sometimes I feel like I'm going to lose my breakfast and sometimes I can hardly walk the next day, but I always come back for more. The music is usually insanely loud. This is great because A) the trainers select some great mixes, and B) no one can hear you gasping for breath and sliding on your own pool of sweat. If you're looking for a great challenge in the Triangle you will find it at HEAT. JoJo, Ashley, and Robin are amazing and will leave you loving to hate them :) read more

So glad I tried this place!!! I've searching different places for a 'gym' and I think this is the one. No other workout except running or swimming gets my heart rate high enough to feel aerobic. And I hate treadmills but this was totally fun and definitely far from boring. The only thing that holds me back is the price, esp now that other studios are starting to offer TRX, etc. Robin is fantastic! And really moivates and pushes you hard to maximize your workout. Even after just 3 classes I can see results and feel more energetic. Pilates feels totally boring and not that useful of a workout after HEAT. So in terms of cost-benefits, HEAT is a better deal. The only thing I don't like about this place is the sound system; sometimes the music is too loud, thus the sound is distorted and you can't hear the instructor over the music. read more

Simply put, this place is worth it. Worth the time. Worth the money. Worth the effort. Worth the sweat. The trainers at HEAT are captivating, passionate, and incredibly knowledgeable. Every trainer I have interacted with is willing and enthusiastic to meet you where you are at on your fitness journey. For me that started with modifying the modifications, slowing down the treadmills, and 5lbs weights-- every trainer went above and beyond to make me feel welcomed and capable, while also continuously challenging me to improve. You can tell when the trainers show up at class everyday it is where they want to be. Their focus and energy is infectious and motivating. I've been at HEAT for almost 5 months and it has quickly become my favorite part of everyday. It's an honor to be a part of a community of such strong and inspiring individuals. If you're thinking about it--do it! read more

Honestly, this is what a gym is supposed to be. Really cool space looking out onto Glenwood Ave, exposed brick walls make you feel a little bit like Rocky Balboa training to fight Ivan Drago. When you come to workout, you know you're going to work. Amazing sense of community with everyone pulling for each other during and after workouts. It's not rare to pop out for a cup of coffee or beer after class (depending on the time of day you workout...select your beverage) I've been to a lot of gyms in the area, this one has by far the best trainers that take a personal interest in helping you meet and exceed your fitness goals. If you're serious about fitness or just starting out, there is a place for you at HEAT. If you haven't checked it out, I would highly recommend it. You have nothing to lose but that spare tire! read more

Went to the strength class with Classpass, and the workout was REALLY intense!! My arms were so sore for like 3 days afterwards. The class itself was structured into different stations, and you paired up with someone to take turns doing the exercises at each station. It was a great way to keep each other motivated and to not slack off since someone was waiting for you to finish so that she could take her turn. The equipment and facilities were also really nice and new, and I am excited to come back! read more

I have never liked a gym. I've always been way out of a shape, and gyms just were NOT the place for me. Until I found Heat. I've been dedicated now for over three months (which is about 2.75 months longer than any other "gym" I've been to). In those three months I've gone from working out 2x a week to 6 days a week. I've lost over 3 inches off my waist, gained incredible amounts of muscle, and can even run a mile without dying! This place truly is amazing. All the instructors are SUPER encouraging, and they genuinely WANT you to succeed. Each one takes the time to remember your name, and will encourage you throughout class. Not sure if your doing an exercise the right way- they'll help you! These guys are always in class before and after to help answer questions, make sure you get some stretching/warm up in if need be, and help out first timers. The atmosphere is not remotely like that of a boring gym. Every single person who takes HEAT classes is there for the classes, not to socialize or gawk, or anything else people do at regular gyms. So you don't find any of that "uncomfortableness" you would find at regular gyms. Add to that the huge windows around half the building, the large mirrors at the front of the classroom, and the industrial vibe of the building as a whole, and its the perfect setup for HEAT. read more

If cardio, intervals, and strength training had a baby it would be HEAT. Now I must preface this by saying that I consider myself pretty athletic; I run marathons (yes, I'm humblebragging), do pilates, yoga, and purebarre...but I have to tell you: HEAT will still kick your ass as it did mine...every.single.time. Here is a rundown on the classes I've attended: HEAT - who knew 2lb weights would feel so heavy? combination of treadmill/weights/abs. I am always sore after this class. TRX HEAT - Tread and Shread - this class incorporates some suspension training - these yellow band thingys you can hang on from the ceiling. Basically, you are using your own body weight in many of the strength exercises. Still lots of cardio and sprinting. CARDIO HEAT - this class made me want to vomit. In a good way, I think. Lots of treadmill - like really fast level 10-12 treadmill. I never threw up but it totally helps with speed! and can shave off a few minutes if you're training for a race. Facilities are urban loft looking and bathrooms/showers are clean. I would shower there if I didn't live next door. I like the class based membership because I've been guilty of having a gym membership and never going! I love the schedule flexibility of HEAT and the variety of classes they offer. I'd much rather run outside or have an instructor tell me what to do. read more

I've taken the HEAT signature class with Tony and Brandon separately. WOW. These classes are awesome. I'm sooooo sore the next couple of days, and I run 3-5 miles every other day! The HEAT signature class consists of treadmill work and free weights work. Lots of squats, push-ups, the like. The intensity is rough. However, the environment and fellow participants are entirely encouraging. Different levels of fitness can participate, and even the more fit people can't power through every single thing. You don't feel any pressure to do more than you feel you can do. Tony and Brandon are great instructors. They are friendly and very knowledgeable and keep talking to get you through the class. This was an hour class and every single minute was used up with beads of sweat. If you're looking to "shock" your system, I would highly recommend checking HEAT out. read more

This place is AMAZING! I have tried so many gyms in the Raleigh area..from O2 Fitness, Lifetime Fitness, Retro Fitness, Yoga, CrossFit...you name it! At one point, I had a membership to both CrossFit and Yoga---so expensive! I also was not seeing the results I wanted. I really wanted a gym that combined cardio, strength, yoga, stretching, personal training, and group fitness all in one--and I found it! I have been doing HEAT for 3 months now and have seen amazing results! I am 5'4'', 124 pounds, and eat a very clean diet. Without changing my healthy diet regime, I have lost 15 pounds and went down two pant sizes! I do HEAT on average 2-3 days a week. Matt is an awesome trainer and really makes the workout FUN! There is an even distribution between men and women in his classes, which makes it diverse. It is so much fun and the competition pushes you to a level that you wouldn't get on your own during a workout. I always leave feeling refreshed, stronger, and with more energy! I have never left feeling sore, unable to workout the next day, or fatigued. HEAT prides itself on sustainable workouts..I could do it every day of the week if I wanted to! Each instructor teaches a different way--some with more cardio, strength, etc. That way, you can find an instructor you get the best workout from or switch it up each week! The price is worth every penny--and trust me..I am a grad school student so I have to justify this! It has given me more energy, confidence in physical appearance, and I feel great! I have made friends in the class and love seeing friendly faces each time! Parking is extremely easy as it has its own parking lot. The time slots for each class are organized so that people with various schedules can attend. If you're feeling like you want an off-day and just a good stretch, they have yoga or foam rolling classes for you. If you're feeling like you want a weight-lifting workout, they have a strength class for you. If you're feeling like you want a cardio-driven class and to work up a sweat, they have HEAT classes for you. If you want both cardio, strength, AND yoga..they have HEAT flow which combines all of those into one class for you. They even have Tabata! Basically, they're awesome! read more

So let me start off this review by saying that I sweat my butt off at every HEAT class I have been to (3 so far) and it was definitely a good workout -- especially for those who like loud good music and variety to their moves. It was incredibly motivating and I'll go back 1-2 a month when I get bored with the gym, despite the crazy high $20 drop in price. That being said - because it's a popular studio, they tend to overcrowd the class. In each of the HEAT classes I have been too, it has felt like there were too many people there (20+) and not enough individual attention. As I was doing the various exercises, I was sure that not only did I look ridiculous, but there was no way that I was doing it correctly. On multiple occasions, the instructor just pointed at someone doing a good job and told the class to "do it like [insert name of HEAT regular]", rather than telling people what they were doing wrong. read more

I love this place. I tried it out with their $25 two week trial. I strongly recommend it. I wanted to do it but I travel so much and that makes it difficult. On top of that I'm getting ready to move. I've been a HEAT regular for about a year now and have not had a bad workout yet. Before going to HEAT I would workout about 4-5 times a week and was having trouble mixing up my routine. I no longer have that problem. Jake and his crew always keep it fresh and will give you the workout you need for the body-type you want. They also have a variety of different classes (yoga, tabata, strength, etc) so you're bound to find what you're looking for. The trainers get to know you on a personal level and will make recommendations based on what your strengths are and what your body goals are. Keep it up guys!! read more

I have been a member of Heat for about 2.5 years now and I can honestly say joining Heat was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Somehow Matt and Jake have managed to make a confirmed exercise hater actually look forward to working out. The workouts are extremely challenging and different every day so you never get bored. Although these are group classes the trainers are hands on and give expert advice specific to each individual. The group atmosphere is fun and encouraging. Because of Heat I have lost pounds and inches but more importantly gained strength and confidence and have been able to turn years of hollow "get fit" resolutions into a lifestyle I can stick with. read more

I've trained and completed half marathons, marathons and half ironmans. There is no training out there that compares to the training you receive at H.E.A.T! The BEST part...they adapt every exercise to meet you exactly where you are at in your fitness journey. All levels are welcome! After completing my last ironman I gained excess weight and going to an ordinary gym doing the same old treadmill routine wasn't cutting it. I returned to H.E.A.T and committed to the unlimited monthly for the last 12 months. I've lost 25 pounds, gained lean muscle and have never felt better inside and out! They have it all...Interval training, TRX, strength training, circuit, endurance running, and spinning...ALL with a personal trainer approach that will make you work harder than you ever have before! Quitting is never an option and Robin and Ashley will inspire you to give everything you have every single day! Thank you HEAT! read more
