I have used this smog test center twice now, and I will continue to return. Vick is very professional, honest, and gets the job done quickly. They used to offer coupons on the back of Vons reciepts, but even without, it sets you back about $50, which I figure is average. For an extra 25 bucks, Vick can do all of your DMV processing as well, and you can get your sticker on the spot. Good for people who are trying to get their registration in under the wire. very recommended. read more

I appreciate how quickly I was seen and smogged (under 15 minutes!) but please, do not try to tell me that you told me to specifically do something when, in fact, you did NOT. I explicitly asked twice that day to be clear, when I got smogged, if I needed to take the certificate to the DMV myself or mail it in. I was told reassuringly that "it was all taken care of, don't need to do anything else." The mechanic explained that the proof was sent electronically to the DMV. I see how this was my fault, to assume that it actually was "taken care of"... However, it would be nice to have been told what the mechanic "always tells every customer to do," which is to follow up on the smog certification with the DMV within 30 days of the smog test and if nothing has been sent, to handle it through DMV or AAA (if you have it). When I called to follow up, about 4 weeks after the smogging was done, I got an EAR-FULL of his slight chastisement that I didn't take his advice (which he did not give ME, though I'm sure he gave to other customers). Overall, my experience was pretty good but slightly frustrating with the misunderstanding. My advice: If you visit for a smog, this is an excellent way to get it done fast and for a good price, but do make an appointment with the DMV (or visit AAA) immediately after to just square things away without finding out 4 weeks later that things didn't go through (which is NOT the fault of the Express Smog Test Only guys, but rather a fault with the DMV's system). Follow the advice of the mechanic guy and ensure (yourself!) that it got sent to the DMV. read more

Smoooooooth. If u are like me and are fed up with Run-Arounds then the extra $10 for a simple smog check here is WELL WORTH IT!! Went to the place down the street from me--"Machines broken" then another shop on Altadena Dr.--"Let me call the guy who does the checks...". EXPRESS SMOG WAS FAST AND PROFESSIONAL. Overpriced. Sign said $29.99, but actually costs $49.99. About $10-20 more than other places in town. Long wait. Told me it would be 20 minutes after I paid. He pulled my car up and another customer came in 5 minutes later. Completly stopped working on my car to assist the new customer, pulled their car in and tested it. Then he rang them up and waited till they left to finally pull my car in for testing. When he finished testing my car, it was 40 minutes later. Seems unfair to finish with them first. He was also much nicer and took extra time to talk and admire her vehicle, which was a shiny new luxury car. Rude. Asked why it took 40 mins and he told me it was only 20 while pointing at old clock and doing the math for me. Didn't say anything like "sorry for the wait." Instead he was trying to argue about it, but I just paid and left as quickly as possible. Went there because of the good reviews and seeing what others paid, but it was more expensive and had a piss poor experience. Only reason its not 1 star is because he managed to finished the job I paid for. read more

I never could have imagined a smog check to be so fast and painless!?! I'm still speechless. As others have said, Vick flew around his shop like a lightning bolt and had my '95 toyota sports car in&out in 10-15 minutes (it was too fast to even take notice of the time). This says a lot about Vick's efficiency since older vehicles require lots of manual measurements/inspections. Vick was incredibly polite and friendly, and he went over how I could get my registration sticker same-day at AAA or the DMV (automated machine - no appointment required... who knew?!?). Plus, his price was substantially lower than nearby smog check stations (other places tend to add exorbitant additional fees for older cars). read more

Wow they are fast! I showed up at 4:30, Dropped my car off and went across the street to enjoy some tacos. Barely got done with my first taco and I already got the call that my car was done at 4:40...and this was on a Saturday. Just got a good deal on a non-running car and after replacing the catalytic converter and some engine work, took it to another place where we just got attitude (and didn't pass). We had been to Express Smog many times before and should have come back here to begin with. We didn't pass here either, but Vick told us that we just needed to put more highway miles on the car (the computer didn't have enough data to verify compliance), and said once we'd done that he'd retest for free. A few hundred miles of highway driving later, back we came for the free retest and this time we passed. Vick is just so pleasant to deal with. He seems genuinely concerned about his customers. The pricing (especially the free retest, which the other place didn't offer) is great. There's no reason to go anywhere else. read more
