My husband was a loyal customer of the auto shop for years, then I started coming here for basic service & maintenance in the mid-2000s when we started dating even though I live in the South Bay (an hour away). I can't say Paul is the best mechanic in the area because I don't live in the SGV, but he's certainly the most honest one that I've encountered. Considered that I'm female & have limited knowledge & experience dealing with mechanics, though I've learned over the years from our interactions. On infrequent occasions when we use a different mechanic & was advised to do some necessary repairs, we would make the drive to Express General Auto Repair for confirmation, & it's mostly not needed at the time or Paul can service our car at a better price. I would reference the owner's manual for the maintenance, & I'm told that I don't drive often enough to follow that recommended schedule, thus saving money & time. Thanks Paul... you're the best!! He kept our cars in shape for 15+ years until we had to upgrade for better safety features because our family grew. I've been going to this shop for routine maintenance since 2019. The owner is honest, up front and reasonable about what your car needs, and the service is always quick. Recently, I had a sudden, dramatic warning come up on my dashboard. Google told me that it was either an alternator issue or a bad battery that had been replaced just a year ago. AAA wasn't willing to replace my battery, claiming their battery tester wasn't working. I called up the shop, not realizing they were closed. The owner picked up and offered to take a look at my car even though his shop was officially closed that day. When I arrived, he quickly diagnosed the issue as a battery problem, stating that he will stick around until AAA comes back so he can attest that the battery is faulty. AAA ended up replacing my battery for free and thanks to the owner, I avoided a potentially costly and unnecessary fix. Honest mechanics are rare and this place is definitely a hidden gem! read more

I went there for a uber/lyft inspection and to check out an issue under my car that caused some noise when going over a bump or breaking! Paul and his staff fixed the problem saying it was just a minor issue--he didn't even charge me for fixing that problem and covered everything for the cost of the inspection. Paul does fantastic work and as 4.7 stars shown is insanely honest. My late model Lexus was struggling, I had hit something in the road, it was driving poorly, and I knew I needed brakes. Paul took care of the brakes and new rotors at a fantastic price. He told me the tires were causing the shaking on the car, again gave me a great price and was completed the work. I told him I was concerned it needed the alignment done (would have been another $150 for them). He said no, trust him with the new tires the car drove fine. I needed a Smog Check for Registration renewal but was having an on-going check engine light issue. I decided to take it to Paul, who has been great with my Mazda 3 but hadn't worked on my 2003 Chevy Silverado. Paul was able to evaluate the issue quickly and accurately. Cost: Great auto shop in the LA area, I came in for an oil change for my honda civic, it was done within 20 min. The employee helped me pump the tires without me questing it. Service: When i mentioned my popped/ scratched bumper to Paul, he helped me to push in the bumper and only charged $5 for it. An invoice/receipt which breaks down and list the repair and labor cost was provided after charge, credit card is accepted. Language: He is fluent in English and Cantonese, also understand Mandarin. I needed to replace my alternator for my 2014 Honda CR-V. Goudy Honda of Alhambra quoted me almost $1,000 for parts and labor for a remanufactured alternator allegedly rebuilt by their technicians. While my car was being towed, I received a message from a friend to check out Express General Auto in Alhambra. I spoke to Paul, the owner, and he quoted me under $400 to have my CRV's problem fixed. He was able to install a remanufactured Denso alternator which made me feel relieved that I wasn't getting an inferior part from autozone or O'reilys.
