Fast, honest, reliable quotes and service. Paul did not try to sell my husband on anything "extra" but simply related to the car running well, Terrific prices and timing. Car ready when he said it would be! Got alternator replaced, rear left brake pads replaced--labor and parts all at around $500 No frills but excellent service! read more

Express General Auto Repair - Business Hours May 2026 - Auto Repair Near Me - Alhambra, California

Review #899 2025-073 This is a long overdue write-up for Express General Auto Repair. My husband was a loyal customer of the auto shop for years, then I started coming here for basic service & maintenance in the mid-2000s when we started dating even though I live in the South Bay (an hour away). I can't say Paul is the best mechanic in the area because I don't live in the SGV, but he's certainly the most honest one that I've encountered. Considered that I'm female & have limited knowledge & experience dealing with mechanics, though I've learned over the years from our interactions. On infrequent occasions when we use a different mechanic & was advised to do some necessary repairs, we would make the drive to Express General Auto Repair for confirmation, & it's mostly not needed at the time or Paul can service our car at a better price. I would reference the owner's manual for the maintenance, & I'm told that I don't drive often enough to follow that recommended schedule, thus saving money & time. Thanks Paul... you're the best!! He kept our cars in shape for 15+ years until we had to upgrade for better safety features because our family grew. If you need a reliable & honest mechanic who cares for you, & not just a number, then bring your car to Express General Auto Repair to keep that motor running smooth for years to come. read more

Took my Acura here for an oil change. Price was very reasonable and didn't have to wait long. The guy that helped me was very nice. Highly recommend this repair shop! read more

Paul and his team are great. Been going there for years and so has my family no issues. Just an honest business you can count on.

Best mechanic in town. I've been coming to Paul since 2013. He's consistent in his prices and great customer service. He is honest and reliable. I recommend friends and family every opportunity I get because he checks all the boxes of an auto shop that cares for his customers and takes pride in his work. I don't trust anyone else with our cars. read more

One of the few things you need to have in life is a mechanic who is honest and one whose inputs (and work) are impeccable. In the Alhambra area, it is Express General Auto Repair. The owner and staff are customer focused and will inform you what is needed verses what would be "nice to do." In other words, when you visit a dealer, they will say you need to have work done on your vehicle - bring it to Express General and they will inform you what is needed and what can wait until the next visit. There is a reason for the many positive reviews. Check it out! read more

I've been going to this shop for routine maintenance since 2019. The owner is honest, up front and reasonable about what your car needs, and the service is always quick. Recently, I had a sudden, dramatic warning come up on my dashboard. Google told me that it was either an alternator issue or a bad battery that had been replaced just a year ago. AAA wasn't willing to replace my battery, claiming their battery tester wasn't working. I called up the shop, not realizing they were closed. The owner picked up and offered to take a look at my car even though his shop was officially closed that day. When I arrived, he quickly diagnosed the issue as a battery problem, stating that he will stick around until AAA comes back so he can attest that the battery is faulty. AAA ended up replacing my battery for free and thanks to the owner, I avoided a potentially costly and unnecessary fix. Honest mechanics are rare and this place is definitely a hidden gem! read more

Average pricing, fast service but honest and wont cheat u. Been coming here for 20'years

I went there for a uber/lyft inspection and to check out an issue under my car that caused some noise when going over a bump or breaking! Paul and his staff fixed the problem saying it was just a minor issue--he didn't even charge me for fixing that problem and covered everything for the cost of the inspection. I am super grateful for his care AND honesty. The whole staff there is so wholesome and nice. I 100 percent would recommend to everyone! read more

THIS IS THE BEST MECHANIC I HAVE EVER HAD THE PLEASURE OF GOING TO!!!! Paul is super reliable, communicative, and will explain all of the options possible. He was so quick to answer on his day off and when I told him my check engine light came on, he was super fast to accommodate even though I have never been here before. He was able to give me a fantastic deal and was done fixing my car within 3 hours. When I tell you I am never going to another mechanic, I mean it. This is quality and value all in one!!! read more

Paul does fantastic work and as 4.7 stars shown is insanely honest. My late model Lexus was struggling, I had hit something in the road, it was driving poorly, and I knew I needed brakes. Paul took care of the brakes and new rotors at a fantastic price. He told me the tires were causing the shaking on the car, again gave me a great price and was completed the work. I told him I was concerned it needed the alignment done (would have been another $150 for them). He said no, trust him with the new tires the car drove fine. The dealers would have tried to sell me on $2,000 in work. Express General Auto is an absolute Blessing! read more

I felt like a damsel in distress, but I found my hero in this shop! My truck broke down and I had it towed to his shop upon recommendation from my friend and the owner was amazing! The shop was closing for the day, but he quickly fixed my car and the charge was minimal. I appreciated how nice & understanding he was and his commitment to get me in my truck right away. This place will definitely be my new go to mechanic spot! read more

Cost: Great auto shop in the LA area, I came in for an oil change for my honda civic, it was done within 20 min. The employee helped me pump the tires without me questing it. Service: When i mentioned my popped/ scratched bumper to Paul, he helped me to push in the bumper and only charged $5 for it. An invoice/receipt which breaks down and list the repair and labor cost was provided after charge, credit card is accepted. Language: He is fluent in English and Cantonese, also understand Mandarin. Hours During Covid: They're closed on Wednesday, which is not updated on yelp, but now you know after reading this overall: I would recommend and would come back again. read more

I needed to replace my alternator for my 2014 Honda CR-V. Goudy Honda of Alhambra quoted me almost $1,000 for parts and labor for a remanufactured alternator allegedly rebuilt by their technicians. While my car was being towed, I received a message from a friend to check out Express General Auto in Alhambra. I spoke to Paul, the owner, and he quoted me under $400 to have my CRV's problem fixed. He was able to install a remanufactured Denso alternator which made me feel relieved that I wasn't getting an inferior part from autozone or O'reilys. My vehicle now works perfectly fine thanks to Paul and his team at Express Service Auto. read more

We have been taking our cars to Express for many years. Paul is honest and fair. I trust him with all of our cars!

Finding an honest mechanic is difficult. I've been coming here for over 5 years. We moved from Alhambra but still make the drive over here for all our mechanic needs. Prices are fair and I trust when I'm told the problem is the truth. There has been times when I could be told something needed to be fixed when it didn't. not here, always honest. I take it for break check and I assuming all 4 breaks need to be changed but I'm corrected and told only two. I will keep on coming to this business. read more

Brought in a catalytic converter shield to have installed because Paul provided a very good quote! It was done in a few hours because they were very busy. You may find this place cluttered and a bit small, but Express General Auto Repair delivers exceptional and timely service. You won't find a spacious waiting area with free coffee, but you will find reasonable prices and a hassle free experience. I originally started taking my car here for simple stuff like oil changes. Through the years Paul has found other issues that have needed repair but I never felt pressured to get these extra repairs done. I had a family member who is a mechanic review his recommendations and quoted prices and everything seemed to check out. Would definitely recommend this place for your general car repair needs.
