Finally tried them. Been on the radar for years, but something else always came up. Saw them at an event, was tempted by the other truck nearby but came here- and was tempted by several items. Picked almost at random: jerk chicken bowl. Loads of tender meat, flavorful and a bit charred on the edges. Yum. Over good rice, and plenty of veggies. A bit of heat, just a touch, either from the jerk or the tomatillo-jalapeno sauce. Big and filling, had some for later. Friendly fast service. Decent price. Explorers Club was parked outside a relative's neighborhood and they ordered dinner then invited me over to do the same. Many people had ordered ahead on the Streetfood Finders app and pickup was running smoothly. I ordered in person from the truck and waited about 7 minutes for my meal. I ordered the Mofongo Sandwich and it was tasty! Unique with the plantain on top of the pulled pork and filling. I also tried one of the Cajun Fish Tacos which were impressive. Huge piece of flaky fish with great Cajun flavor. For sides we had some Gorilla Fries which were even great heated up the next day, some chips and queso, and the churros. Never heard of this food truck, but my goodness did it leave an amazing impression on me! I ordered the Gorilla Bowl with Cajun fish as the protein. The piece of fish was big and beautifully cooked! The beans and vegetables were delicious and went very well with the flaky white rice. Top it off with some mild chipotle aioli sauce? Wow! For dessert, I ordered the mini churros and I think I fell in love. Absolutely drool worthy. It came with a chocolate sauce and a fruit dip, which tasted like raspberries. The fruit dip was my favorite and paired incredibly with the churros. I was super happy with my meal and the prices were reasonable. Best food truck to date!! read more

I have had my eye on Explorer's Club for a while to try. Finally their food truck came to my neighborhood last night. I had a hard time picking what I wanted as everything looked great on the menu. I finally decided on the gorilla bowl which had veggies, beans, jerk chicken and rice. Came with a tomatillo jalapeno sauce. The sauce gave my meal a kick. My husband ordered his usual the Cuban sandwich which came with fried plaintains. Get this I didn't know his meal came with plaintains and I ordered an extra appetizer of them. He comes home and tells me the last time he ordered from here he did the same! No wonder the two of us were meant for each other. Although hubby did surprise me by saying his meat had a kick to it. I didn't taste the kick because over here I was dying from my sauce being spicier than his! We all know who carries the "special sauce taste" in this household anyways! Grilled vegetable pita was out of this world! Very tasty and well done! Pierogies, were unfortunately not boiled but fried; And the menu did not say that. So I was very disappointed with the pierogis. I gave them away! My main beef is that it is a food truck and I gave a 15% tip but yet no one told me my food was ready and they had no courtesy to tell me that in the brewery. Um, wow. They came to my work parking lot today and I walked out about a half hour before their end time. Friendly service; wonderful food. I ordered the $8 Cajun Fish Tacos, and grabbed a bottle of root beer from the cooler, for another $2. It was actually sarsaparilla and very (very) good. I was amazed by the tacos. They used full sized pieces of tilapia on each taco, with slaw on the bottom, and an orange-y sauce on top. They were so flavorful. Just wonderful, with a kick. I expressed how great they were and 2 coworkers beat it out there to get the same. I was a fan of the brick and mortar location (sadly, gone). Bravo, guys. Explorer's Club is a welcomed addition to Zauber. After a few brews, it's natural for one to look for some accompanying food. There's tons of options in the Grandview area, including a McDonald's right across the street, but nothing is more convenient than having a kitchen in the same building. It's also nice that Explorer's Club puts out some quality food at a reasonable price. Before they closed, I dined at Explorer's Club's brick and mortar restaurant once and I was a fan. Although the food is now served in a food truck style format (ie. paper plates and wax paper), the food is still undeniably tasty. So far i've only ordered the Mofongo Sandwich, which is a pulled pork sandwich comprised of plantains, cilantro, roasted garlic, cheese and jalapeno slaw. As others have mentioned, the pulled pork is melt in your mouth tender. The charred bun and crunchy slaw serve as a good textural contrast to the pork. I could have used a bit more heat, but that's being picky. read more

I'm a fan of EC. My coworkers and I always bookmark their date when they come down to the Rickenbacker area. The Mofongo(see pics) is an absolute hit. That Jalapeno slaw really adds a punch of flavor and texture to what is already a delicious, tender, juicy, meat. I haven't personally tried everything but can recall others moans of delight from the tots, meatloaf, bologna, cubano, and BACC cookie. On the most recent visit, I was fortunate enough to try the daily special before they ran out. It was a deep fried tortilla bowl(see pic), stuffed with meat, beans, and veggies. I wish I could have checked in on Yelp, but like most food trucks, it says you are too far away. The guys in the truck are always friendly, and work hard to keep the line moving fast, without rushing you at the window. Although you may be next in line, be aware that they must get the prepared orders handed out the window, before taking your order. They will also extend that same courtesy to your food, to ensure you get it fresh and still hot. I like the grilled bread that prevents the soggy sandwich. However, a co-worker also commented about having nothing but burnt taste, because they over grilled it. That's not the quality and dedication we have grown to expect. The time the visit did not have a fryer to do tots was also disappointing. Something about it was too cold to fry???? As for drinks to purchase from ANY restaurant or food vendor, expect sticker shock. $1 bottled water or 12oz canned soda/tea is more than reasonable for most clientele. I did make the mistake of just driving buy one rainy day, because the awning/door was already closed. WRONG! There is no flip up awning/door on this truck. Just a sliding window. I like coming to Zauber and the food trucks. It's nice to see that Explorer's Club is a permanent presence in the kitchen. The restaurant closed and their food truck has been here. It's kitchen is missing a few truck favorites in its regular menu. They have specials so maybe they will sometimes have them. I have only been here for lunch. The Sunday brunch menu has few vegetarian choices. There are potato pierogis that can be made vegetarian. They also have tofu barbacoa that can be substituted for eggs. The lunch menu is better. The dip duo is $7. It's black bean hummus and salsa, and comes with pita bread and tortilla chips. The soft twist pretzel is $6. I like it with the mango habanero sauce. The veggie sandwich is $7. It's a daily special so ask what your choices are. The kitchen has a regular menu. It's missing some of the food truck items like fried plaintains, vegetabled pita wrap, and vegetable tacos. The food can be eaten inside or on the patio, and goes nicely with a beer or cocktail. I like what I've tried. It's not the best food truck but I can get some good food with my beer. The kitchen menu is missing some of the food truck favorites so hopefully they will have them. read more

For 12 dollars the gorilla bowl is a ridiculous bargain. Got the Cajun Fish. One of the most delicious meals Ive ever gotten from a food truck and it was definitely a meal. I figured it's about time for Explorer's Club to move on from it's original Yelp page which is primarily reviews on its former restaurant. Those days are over, but the days of Explorer's Club's awesome food truck are in full swing. While it may have a trimmed down menu compared to the old brick and mortar establishment, it doesn't skip out on any of the amazing and unique flavors that made everyone fall in love with Explorer's Club in the first place. While they usually hang out around Zauber Brewing, I caught up with them at Easton, and they were busy as ever. They have a standard menu listed on the website, but they also offer specials that vary from day to day. I'd had the Mofongo sandwich before, and it's amazing, so I was pretty torn on getting that or the pierogis that I haven't seen before. The easy solution for me (but definitely not my stomach) was to order both. Had I known just how big the pierogi dish was, I may have rethought that decision. The pierogi platter came with three massive pierogis topped with a incredibly flavorful pot roast, and pot roast is one of my favorite meals. For $7, it was SO much food, and I was getting pretty full. The meat was so tender and the flavors penetrated every part of the dish. As for the Mofongo sandwich, it's pretty hefty on it's own. The guys here give you plenty of pulled pork, and the combination of the jalapeno slaw with the plantains and roasted garlic is just flat out good. It's a bummer that the original restaurant is no more, because these guys put out some interesting plates that keep the Columbus foodscape interesting. Luckily, we're left with a great food truck that is regularly out slinging most of that unique food to folks all around town. My suggestion is for you to pop over to Zauber Brewing and support the creative comfort foods coming from this awesome truck. read more

Community building, at its best. What do you mean? I think it's fantastic that Zauber is allowing Explorers' truck to set up shop here. It's a perfect collaboration: liquid and food substance put together = great use of time and space. I def will be back! Food? Delicious, I mean very delish, Veggie Tacos! The squash and peppers, infused with the black beans and rice? Yippie ki yi ya! The flavors meshed so well. I was delighted that I could taste the veggies, and it was not overloaded with too much sauce. Black beans were soft, but not mush. All-round great dish for vegetarians AND carnivores, alike :) I was full from the tacos, so my Mofongo Burger had to go home with me. The next morning I was up early, thus I felt it was an appropriate time for this leftover cold pork sandwich. That sandwich was immensely good! Tender pork that was still super easy to eat, coming straight from the cold fridge. Still could taste the slight seasoning - enhanced the meat quite well. I enjoyed the jalapeño coleslaw a tad better, with it being cold, because it took the spicy level down a notch for my tongue. read more

Happy to have the Explorers Club truck stop into our neighborhood tonight! Ordered up a few things. The guy taking orders was very nice and polite. Food took about 20 mins as they had a plethora of online orders to tackle as well. Food was tasty. Not over the top, but the veggies, rice, and (in my case) chicken was all cooked well and flavorful. My wife's sandwich didn't travel well the five or so minutes back home. We just tossed that bottom bun/ grease trap. Churros were delicious and still warm by meal end. Thanks again! read more

One of my favorite food trucks in town. Their food is sort of a Central American fusion of all things delicious! I seem to end up at the truck more frequently during brunch hours, so the menu has been breakfast tacos, BLT, huevos rancheros, french toast, etc. Everything I've had is amazing and super flavorful, and you can get a giant pile of sweet plantains for $6!! The breakfast tacos with chorizo have a crunchy and spicy jalapeno slaw on top that perfectly compliments the richness of the egg/chorizo. The huevos rancheros is a massive pile of beans, eggs, veggies, and what I am referring to as 'magic' sauce because it's impossibly good. My husband always gets their huge BLT on a brioche bun and raves about it. For $8-9 you really do get a filling meal. Some food trucks overcharge for the quantity of food received, but not this place! Delicious AND a lot of food! The owners are super friendly, and since they've been in the business for a while they've worked out all the kinks. They even have those little light-up buzzer thingies that tell you when your food is ready if you walk away for a bit! I'm writing this as I'm trying to collect every single grain of rice and beans left in my bowl. The food was amazing and the service extremely fast. It's so hard to find GOOD vegetarian and vegan options in food trucks, let alone Latino-inspired menus. My Gorilla Bowl with Chile Tempeh was excellent. The rice and beans were perfect, the veggies were tasty, and the tempeh was absolutely delicious. That's the vegan option in the menu, but they also have veggie taco and the veggie quesadilla, and sides like jerk seasoned tots and jalapeno slaw. I can't vouch for the meaty dishes, which are plentiful, but taking my experience with the vegan dish I would be surprised if they were not equally amazing. read more

Had this food truck at a work function. They were horribly unprepared to handle the number of people in the building, even though they were informed in advance of what to expect. Within 30 minutes, they were out of tots and meatloaf, and it went downhill from there. Some people were lucky and got food in 10-15 minutes, others waited 45 minutes. The food, once I got it, was mediocre. The sandwich was overdone and dry and the churro bites were raw in the middle. Very disappointing after waiting 45 minutes for what should have been an enjoyable lunch. read more

Food truck experience-Got a chicken gorilla bowl and side of plantains and it was so good!!! It doesn't look like anything special and something I would make at home but when you dig in, the flavors do not disappoint. It had pulled chicken that wasn't dry, black beans with a wonderful spice to it, rice and an assortment of veggies. They weren't modest with the veggies either, there were heaping amounts of of squash, onions, carrots and corn. I think it has other veggies but I devoured it. The plantains were delicious too, sweet and savory. I didn't even need to use much of the sauce it comes with. I'm glad that Explorers Club found permanent residence at Zauber! I visit Zauber pretty regularly, and everything I've tried from the Explorers Club Kitchen has been super good. My friends and I are all big fans of the nachos. Tortilla chips loaded up with pulled chicken, beans, corn, and cheese - topped with deliciously sweet BBQ sauce! Yes, please. Also worth mentioning are the latkes. A Nice Jewish Girl like myself knows a good latke when she tastes one, and these are excellent (albeit non-traditional with carrots and other root veggies)! read more

My husband and I are big fans of Explorer's Club new permanent kitchen at Zauber Brewing. The small menu is switched up daily (though you will see a few staples appear repeatedly), and everything we've had on our multiple lunch and brunch visits has been tasty. They really excel at punching up flavor or putting interesting spins on dishes that might be typical elsewhere: for instance, egg tacos come with topped a slightly sweet and tangy jalapeño slaw, or the chicken quesadilla contains spices that push it beyond the typical cheese and chicken dish. For brunch the biscuits topped with chorizo gravy are one of our favorites, and the mofongo pork sandwich (with smoked pulled pork, plantains, and the aforementioned slaw) is a great lunch option. The ingredients of each dish seem fresh and of high quality, and they always have vegetarian friendly options too. When the brewery is busy the order might take a little while since there's usually only one person running the kitchen, but the wait is worth it. Plus, all the dishes pair really well with one of Zauber's draft beers or cocktails (or Sunday bloody marys). Seems like a perfect match! read more

Tracy and his team at the Explorers Club Food Truck and Catering literally came to my rescue and totally killed it at our holiday party! I was diagnosed 1-1/2 years ago with celiac disease. We do not allow any gluten containing food in the house as I am very sensitive to getting sick from cross-contact. We had a hard enough time finding caterers who would even offer gluten free food and by the time we were ready to choose, only one was still attempting to work with us even though they couldn't do completely cross-contact free. Our party usually gets anywhere from 50-70 people and there was no way I could do all of the food this year. By a fluke, I came across the web site for the Explorers Club Food Truck and Catering. There were many mentions of special menus and diets including gluten-free so I took a chance and emailed Tracy explaining my situation. BEST FIND EVER!! Not only did he say they could COMPLETELY accommodate my needs BUT they would also make the food at our place in the food truck, do the entire display, replenish and take care of the food, then pack it up if we wanted. He stopped by the house a few weeks before the party to make sure there would be room for the truck and to see what space he had for the food. So friendly! It was like chatting with an old friend. We settled on a great diverse menu...he took our request for comfort food and bumped it up a notch. He and his team arrived a few hours early the day of the party and started setting up. I DID NOTHING but look on and stay out of his way. They completely set up the display and took care of the food. I just had to enjoy the party and actually get to visit with my friends and family. Tracy hung out in the buffet area and communicated with his team in the truck via head-set when things needed to be replaced or replenished. At the end of the night, he even brought in to-go containers for people to use. And they DID use them! I am still getting compliments on the food. It was fresh and interesting and the quality was fantastic. So tasty! The quinoa patties were a huge hit! We honestly had very little left to pack up later because people took food with them and because Tray regulated the stock so well that we didn't end up buying tons of stuff upfront that was left over later. It was the right amount of food at the right time. I don't think I can recommend this service enough. And the best part, no one knew (or cared) that the entire spread was gluten free and I got to eat and enjoy it all...never feeling sick. I'd absolutely use this service again and would recommend his services as well. read more

While I have not tried every food truck in Columbus, I have tried many - and there are none better than Explorers Club. I hit this truck almost weekly and would do so even more if I could. I started at the top of the menu with the Mofongo sandwich and was not disappointed - It is great! But my absolute favorite has to be the Jerk Chicken Tacos. The meat is moist and spiced just right but it is the combination with the jalapeno slaw that makes it so amazing. Once I got to this point of the menu, I stopped trying other things . . . until I finally realized if everything else I had already tried was so good, I should continue. Today was the meatloaf sandwich - another winner on a cold day when you want comfort food. I have never been disappointed! Horrible. At the food truck waited 30 minutes and multiple ppl behind me got their food. Brought it up to the guy taking orders and was told they were probably working on it. After seeing 2 more ppl get the exact same order that I had, who were at least 10 behind my, we told the cook and he said there's nothing he can do if it got lost. We complained and he told us "just go just go" asked for money back plus the tip. They had zero care for customer service or their screwup. Horrible read more

This food truck set up shop outside our apartment complex so we thought we'd try it. It was very good. I had the jerk chicken tacos. The chicken was juicy and the favors were really good. It was pretty spicy but not to the point you can't enjoy it. They've crafted these tacos so that the flavors come bursting through the heat. Very fast very delicious and they even gave my dog a treat (after she sat and shook hands with them of course). read more
