Abuela's Kitchen is a foodie gem. The flavors and food profiles have something for everyone, from foodie risk takers to down-home food lovers. Everyone should end their meal with a homemade Tres Leches cake. The nachos with chicken are a flavor bomb with authentic South American profiles that feel very familiar. The chicken tacos are by far my personal favorite. Do I need to suggest how amazing the empanadas are? Try them all. The location has nearby parking, Abuela's Kitchen is on DoorDash, and they have a great adult beverage menu that is DORA approved. Inside, there is a good selection of seating for all-sized parties. Food is cooked to order, so there is a slightly longer wait time than you'd have at a fast-casual restaurant. read more

The food was awful and over priced only giving one star cause the waitress was amazing.

The cachapa had moist pork filling in a sweet cornmeal crust. Hubby liked the salsa with his beef stuffed burrito. Nice people and good food keeps us going back. read more

Last week we were in the area and decided to have lunch here. We looked at the reviews on YELP and they seemed good. We ordered a chicken quesadilla and a Cuban sandwich. The Cuban sandwich was not very good. The pork was tough and hard to eat. We also think the cheese used on the sandwich was a slice of processed yellow American cheese. Seemed unusual, tasted a bit strange on a Cuban, and it didn't add anything to the sandwich. We've had much better Cuban sandwiches. I definitely wouldn't order this again. However, the fries that came with the Cuban were very good. The quesadilla was better. It was large and stuffed with tasty chicken and cheese. It was browned and crisped just right. I didn't care for the glaucoma which came with the dish. The color and the consistency led me to believe that it was store-bought. It was so thin and almost runny. I was expecting thick, homemade guacamole to be served in a Latin restaurant; disappointing for sure. Overall, the quesadilla was good and I would consider ordering it again. The servers were very friendly. The restaurant was clean. The waits were a bit too long in our opinion...we waited to get our drinks, waited to order, waited for the food.......you probably get the point! It was a 45 minute wait from ordering our food to being served the food. Too long in my opinion. Next time we're in Urbana we will look for something else. read more

WONDERFUL option right in the HEART of downtown Urbana. Quite the love story/labor of love here, and you can just feel and TASTE the love this couple puts into every dish (and drink) they offer!! I wasn't hungry enough for a whole dinner, but wanted to try some of their tempting apps., and as I debated which to try, the owner helpfully recommended a sampler plate, which was a PERFECT choice!! Chicharron, plantains, fried yuca, tequenos, a mini arepa, and more... As much as I wanted to go "light," this was SUPER filling (no complaints!!) and gave me a great opportunity to try some of their "greatest hits" at a reasonable, belly-filling price. Plenty of drink options at the bar, which I'll be sure try next time (BEFORE/instead of imbibing at the nearby brewery!!) along with some of their tempting entree choices. Come hungry, leave FELIZ!! Stopped in during a business travel today. Walked in, ordered tostadas and had them on my table about 5 min later. Very tasty and the server couldn't have been nicer. Restaurant was clean and well lit. Very nice experience and I'd stop in on purpose next time I'm in the area. read more

Amazing food, service, location, everything is a 10 out of 10. I'm partial to their mixed drinks, always expertly crafted, and they often come up with some pretty inventive specials. Have never had a dish here I didn't love. My favorite is the black beef, but I wouldn't turn down anything they brought me. It's also a great place for kids, there's a kids menu and they'll even bring out some crayons and a coloring book! Seriously, you are doing yourself a disservice if you are anywhere near Urbana and are not giving this place a try. read more

What a lovely surprise to find this authentic Venezuelan restaurant in Urbana! We were coming home from the Indian Lake area and decided to search on Yelp for a local restaurant passing through Urbana- so glad we stopped here! It's very charming from the exterior and the bar is also colorful and inviting. The food was flavorful and reasonably priced. We started with the plantains and tequenos both delicious. Then my husband had a pork empanada and I tried the cachapa with pork, both also really good. Definitely a nice change to have Venezuelan food, which is much harder to come across than your typical Mexican restaurants which are everywhere. While there are some similarities it's definitely a different cuisine and flavors so don't expect "Mexican" and you won't be disappointed. The service was friendly and prompt. So glad we stopped and we'll come back when in the area! read more

Abuela's Kitchen of Urbana, OH was such a joyful experience with my mom & service was very attentive. Everything is made with fresh ingredients and assembled in the most comforting way. Their 'sancocho' is, in particular, an Abuela's hug in a bowl. Don't shy away due to it's unassuming appearance & give Abuela's Kitchen a try. I'm sad I'm out of state and only visit about yearly. Really enjoyed our experience at Abuela's Kitchen. The food was delicious and all of the staff were very friendly. Venezulan food in an unexpected location. Everything arrived piping hot, freshly prepared with love. I highly recommend ordering appetizers along with empanadas as you can savor more of the menu that way. Do not miss the tres leche cake if it is on the menu that day.
