Horrible company, wanted to charge $900.00 for one room! took a $500.00 deposit, called to speak to the project manager, never called back, didn't send a final bill, they left an area so the water damage started to seep into my family room! BUYER BEWARE These guys are TERRIBLE. The whole construction industry is bad but this is the worst I have ever experienced. They have taken over two months for a simple repair and it still is not done. They overcharged so much that our insurance company is refusing to pay. And they won't itemize their extreme ($8k for one bathroom demo) charge so that our insurance company could help with something. Beyond that, there is ZERO accountability. I have had to use a spreadsheet to try to keep track of the situation, but the bottom line is that Expert Restoration hired a guy named Miles who promised it would be done in 10 days. That guy hired a guy named Austin who hired another guy named Josh who has taken an additional month. And of course they always say that it is almost done to discourage me from starting over with a new contractor. Their lack of communication skills adds insult to injury. They dodge calls, hang up when they accidentally answer, and everyone's voicemail is always full. When they run into an issue they just stop working instead of telling us about the issue so we can figure it out. All in all it has been a *horrible* experience. If I could get reimbursed for the time I have wasted trying to track these guys down it might be worth as much as their exorbitant bill. UPDATE: They finally finished and the quality is so bad that I am having to pay to have it re-done by someone else. They charged us about $15k total for one day of labor and about $600 worth of supplies retail (they just bought a cheap bathroom vanity from Home Depot and threw it in there even though it did not fit the space at all. Also it was particle board instead of wood, and plastic instead of tile.) And they didn't even let me choose the flooring and they put in this hideous piece of vinyl that apparently has been sitting around since the 1970s. If you want the truth about how Expert Restoration operates, read the 1 star reviews on here, Google or the many BBB complaints. But beware, they like to flag reviews they don't like. My Google review has disappeared twice. On BBB they have a D rating and a warning about pattern of complaints. Check out Yelp's Consumer Alert because they tried to bribe my wife to remove her reviews. The alert only stays up for 90 days. But it says: "We caught someone red-handed trying to pay someone to write, change, prevent, or remove a review for this business. We weren't fooled, but wanted you to know because these actions not only hurt consumers, but also honest businesses who play by the rules." My wife talked to 2 other ladies who were all fired up, but then suddenly dropped off the grid. They must have accepted a similar bribe to remove their reviews, but now can't speak about it. Expert Restoration's business is based on dishonesty, misleading customers, price gouging and insurance fraud. Look on BBB, where their office manager says: "Our guys all work on commission. Expert Restoration bilked me out of $915 by overcharging for its work on an extremely small project. The price they charged me was staggeringly high, and they dragged their feet every step of the negotiation with the insurance company. I don't know if their positive reviews are real or fake, but I can document everything I say in this review. After a small flood of sewage water, ripped out about 30 sq. ft. of carpet and brought in a fan and dehumidifier, only bringing in an air filter the next day when I reminded them that they had said there might be mold. They then sent an invoice for $2,384.04. While my insurance company paid 2/3 of the bill, Allstate said the invoice was another 50% above what was being charged on the marketplace, so they did not pay the remaining $914.88. Expert Restoration charged that to my credit card. At first I thought it was the insurance company being tight-fisted, but as we went back and forth from the service date of April 20 to the date I gave up, October 2, I realized that it was Expert Restoration that was in the wrong. By that time, at Expert Restoration's behest, I had filed with the Utah State Insurance Board to get Allstate to pay the total. The department normally would just send a letter, but because the department employee thought Expert Restoration had acted so egregiously, she did extra investigation and called me. She reported: (1) Some charges that were unwarranted or work Expert Restoration did not complete (supervisory charge and overhead and profit). (2) They had been in business four years and still weren't licensed by the Division of Occupational Professional Licensing. (3) There were 7 complaints on the BBB site and 4 of them were the same as mine: overbilling insurance companies. (4) They say on their website they have 25 years of experience, but they only have 4 years of restoration; the rest are in real estate. (5) The lawyer they said they were going to use if I brought a lawsuit isn't even an attorney. She speculated this person was a paralegal at a real estate company. (6) She recommended I call Consumer Protection and draw up a lawsuit. At this point, I had been making phone calls, sending emails, and filing complaints for six months. **BEWARE** Decided to change my review of expert restoration, from what I thought is that it would be a easy process from what I was told and that they would be helpful, little did I know that they would send the information to my insurance company who denied the claim, and then would turn around and bill my credit card for the full amount without my consent. I took a look at the contract and couldn't find anywhere that authorizes them to bill my card at any time that they please, let alone they billed me the insurance rates and after getting the money stated that it isn't there problem and that I need to go fight my insurance company which puzzled me being as I was told by 2 of there reps that they would handle all that for me and I wasn't needing to worry about anything. I had also told them in the beginning that I wasn't able to do the service if my insurance company wouldn't cover it because I didn't have the money for it, which again I was told multiple times by 2 different people that it would be covered and that they haven't seen the insurance company not cover a claim like this, which is false and again I was lied to. So far I have not been impressed and or happy with there service let alone follow up or customer service, you call in and they transfer you to other people to leave a message who don't contact you back unless you keep contact them, and when I asked to work something out by using a different card because they billed my debit card and bounced my account they said not there problem and that she could speak to the owner to see if he would put the funds back and then I can put it on my credit card since they wouldn't work with me, have had no response from them since. Normally I do not leave a review if it is negative, I just don't support the business; however, this company is awful. We had smoke damage from a wild fire and needed remediation. There was quite a bit of soot and ash throughout our house. These were our negative experiences: 1. Two of their workers were caught on camera going through the drawers in our bedroom. They were taking items that belonged to my recently deceased Father, laughing, joking, going through items. They then went through my underwear drawer. It's hard enough to trust people to be in your house, but then to have them rifle through your things, we felt so violated. 2. They claimed to have cleaned several items that were clearly not cleaned, or cleaned so poorly we had to have it completely redone. Areas included, floors, air ducts, walls, carpet, widow sills, and furniture. We would move an item and find a pile of ash under it. They said they cleaned the garage, sent some pictures. My shoes were completely black with ash after walking across the garage floor. I had to power wash it myself, there were pools of ash with very light spray pressure. 3. They used the same dirty rags throughout the entire house, so those items that they did clean were had a layer of grime residue. ALL surfaces they "cleaned" had this residue. TV screens, computer screens, pictures, counters, furniture, moldings, doors, toilets...literally every surface! 4. The cleaning agent they used on our floors (1 year old house) left a residue that keeps foaming up every time we clean the LVP floor. We have mopped it at least 20 times and the residue keeps appearing. It Makes it almost impossible to clean the floor as the mop foams up so bad we have to rinse it every few feet. 5. My elderly mother lives with us in a MIL suite. They did such a half hearted job cleaning her areas that I had to re-clean the entire place. So. Much. Ash! 6. When confronted with the issues, they came off annoyed. They begrudgingly came back to "make things right". You would think they would have learned that we have cameras all over the house setup to monitor the cleaning crews while we stayed with family during remediation. They did such a horrible job at "fixing" the issues that we had to clean everything again. The residue we did get off was now back... 7. How much do you think is reasonable to charge for someone to come in and wipe down all surfaces, mop floors, clean walls, clean fixtures, wipe down furniture, and clean the ducting. My insurance company called me and informed me they charged $50k!!! WHAT!!! The adjuster told me they had never seen such outrageously overcharging. They negotiated the bill down, but it was still absolutely ridiculous. 8. We had a $1000 deductible we withheld from Expert Restoration until they made things right. Things are still not right, so to add insult to injury, they have now threatened to put a lien on our house. What???? They bilked my insurance company for over $40k, had all these issues, have not made things right, invaded our privacy, and now want to out a lien on our house for $1000. Updated: now have put a lien on our house... Please, do not give this horrible company your business. First of all, we googled, 'Utah disaster cleanup!' & we were very confused when this company showed up. Unfortunately our basement flooded at 10:30 pm and they showed up after midnight and we did not go out to read their truck. It wasn't until they came to pick up the fans when we saw their truck and wondered who the heck we called! Our basement is 800 sq feet and the cleanup was NOT in the entire basement, and the crew of two younger men were at our home for about 5 hours. We got a bill for, $10,000 & insurance paid $5,000. When our insurance adjuster tried to get ahold of the company to justify their significantly much higher prices than the going rate, Expert Restoration was not cooperative. My insurance agent called other disaster companies to get a price quote and they all said that Expert Restoration was priced double of what it should have been. After 30 days my husband started to get calls & emails from Paul Goodwin from, 'Quick Recovery funding' who myself nor my husband knew who they were. Our insurance agent called Paul Goodwin at 'quick recovery funding' to find out who in the heck he was. He told her that he was our new creditor and we had a loan with him. So at midnight when they had my husband sign paperwork, buried in that paperwork said something about a loan with quick recovery funding. Quick recovery funding has also sent emails of letters to my husband with my husbands name signed on the bottom that HE DID NOT WRITE. Expert restoration is not an honest company, & if they were, they wouldn't be bribing people to remove negative reviews on yelp, they wouldn't charge double of the going rate, & they wouldn't throw another company into the mix without talking to the customer first! My experience with Expert Restoration was awful. They came and did the work, which I'm assuming was fine. I'm not a water mitigation expert and they left a mess, but it seemed to fix the immediate problem. However, once the work was done, that's when the experience took a turn. Based on my experience, their business model is roughly the following: * You have a crisis * Expert shows up and hands you a bunch of paperwork to sign before they can start work, which you sign, because you have water in your house and you assume they're operating in good faith * They charge rates that are far above market rates * Your insurance company covers the reasonable portion of the bill ... and then the following happens: * Expert stops talking to your insurance company, and then starts dealing directly with you this is not normal in this industry; most mitigation companies only talk to insurance and almost never talk to the end customer (you) once the work is done * Expert tells you that it's the insurance company's business model to underpay, and tell you that you just need to "keep after them" this is not true: insurance companies make money by being excellent at risk assessment and statistics * Expert starts referring you / your insurance company to their lawyer, and threatening you with collections, while also not answering the questions you ask in your attempt to resolve whatever difference there is, etc. * You fight it, or you just give up and pay for the overcharged portion It appears that their competitive advantage is that they've got a well-written contract, which they use to take advantage of their customers. Another warning: Expert's office manager, Adri, was pretty awful to interact with. She's a bully, for sure, and I became used to getting random notes from claims@ (aka Adri) where she'd spout some kind of demand for payment along with a threat of legal action, but then also not actually answer any of my or my insurance company's outstanding questions. She'd pop up in different email threads with inappropriate, incomplete, and / or confusing comments like some kind of water mitigation leprechaun. At points it was bizarre enough to almost seem like Kaufman-esque performance art. It was even more strange when my insurance agent flagged her unhelpful behavior to Expert's owners and discovered that they were the ones directing her to operate this way, so apparently this approach is a strategic decision that they're proud of and stand behind. Be warned. All of this is prelude to the following recommendation ... please, for the love, spare yourself the pain of working with Expert and and use a different company. Your insurance company will have a list of "preferred" providers they can recommend; Expert will not be on those lists. Lastly, regarding Expert's approach to reviews. I've noticed that Expert often posts rather misleading (and condescending) responses to negative reviews, so I want to just address that now. ER likely paid big $$'s for that week's Google boost. They should consider spending their money on customer satisfaction. How TERRIBLE is ER? Read On - - - * Many court cases filed against them - they sue their former customers, too! * Expert Restoration (ER) requires you to sign a payment contract w/Quick Recovery Funding (QRF); this eliminates the ability for you & your insurance company to negotiate their (exorbitant) invoice rates. * High interest rate (60% APR/year!) charged on balance due if you exceed payment time frame. $362+ interest charged to me on $1800+ disputed overcharge = near ¼ of disputed amount. * ER owned by the same company that owns QRF; but ER acts like the 2 entities have nothing to do with one another. * ER's communication is poor; emails exclusively, and these are seldom timely. They basically REFUSE to negotiate with insurance agents, repeatedly stating they have the right to charge prices deemed excessive by multiple sources - including 5-star competitors. * OVERHEAD and PROFIT charged as 2 separate $410+ invoice fees (yours could be higher). My State Farm claims dept. says to ER: "Your crew coming out to perform water mitigation services does not warrant the services of a general contractor [and related overhead & profit charges]. We allow overhead and profit on claims that warrant a general contractor overseeing and supervising a job that is complex and involves the coordination of multiple tradespeople coming in to complete the job (i.e. drywall sub, painter, flooring sub, finish carpentry, etc.). * $410.90 per above mentioned disallowed-by-insurance category = $821.80 on top of my $4,109 invoice. My entire home is 1900 square feet; less than half our basement flooded. I was told by local REPUTABLE companies that water mitigation for my property should have been approx. $3,000, the amount State Farm approved. ER invoiced $4930.84 + $362 interest from their finance company, then sent me to COLLECTION while I was trying to negotiate! * $256 charged for "afterhours service call." Multiple websites indicate typical Emergency Call Out fee for water mitigation is $50-$100. **Objective Info from Engle Martin & Assocs. "After conducting a multitude of water mitigation audits, Rob Foster, Lead Water Mitigation Analyst, ID-ed common areas of [overcharge]": 2) Billing for Oversized Equipment "...a standard de-humidifier rents for about $65 a day...an XL de-humidifier rents for about $105 a day. Standard gear [should] suffice for a 1,000-sq ft basement..." Terrible. We tried to call UDK, but the inlaws spelled Kleen-up wrong and we ended up with their website (impersonating UDK). They showed up and told us that they get referrals from UDK all the time. They did good work, but then the huge bill came and the harassment started. They charged us 60% over any of the other competitive quotes submitted by other disaster companies. And they didn't bother waiting for us to take care of the bill, they just tried to max out the credit card for everything they could. read more

Experts? What a joke. These guys made the situation worse and want to collect $2000 more from me than my insurance is willing to pay them. All the insurance comps show they are overcharging. They sent out some rookies who didn't know what they were doing. The Expert Restoration "experts" made a huge mess and basically took a "just start hacking" to the situation. They ruined carpet that was perfectly fine and now the insurance company will not replace since the damage was caused by Expert Restoration's fine staff of experts. I also asked them for initial cost estimates several times and they kept telling me "we don't know, a project manager will be out". Did I see anyone? Nope. The supposed project manager the kids phoned into had one concern and that was if I had signed their agreement form. He made sure to ask three times about that one and now I see why. They are now threatening me with a lein as their first contact since I last heard from them a few weeks ago regarding payment. It's probably been 45 days since in total since the work was performed. The last conversation I had with Expert Restoration had them working with my insurance on payment. Looks like my insurance paid them market rate and now they want more. They ended up charging a total of $6000 for roughly 10 hours of labor. My bet, they probably paid the two kids who did the work $15 an hour, and they spent twice as much time as needed making a huge mess. No hardware, no parts to buy, just some kids hacking up my basement for 10 hours at a rate of $6000. Great customer service. What a bunch of d-bags. When you have a crisis like this you need help from true "experts". These guys are chumps, not experts. Call someone else. CALL ANYONE BUT THESE PEOPLE!! Do it yourself. We had a pipe break. Expert Restoration came out (our plumber called them). We were told that it would be covered by insurance "99.9%" of the time. Insurance didn't cover it and we got stuck with the bill. Deep breath. Okay. I am paying $100 a week and they are charging over $100 a month in financing charges on a $2000 bill. "We are not a bank." Funny how they didn't say that BEFORE they did the work. I was not made aware of all the MISC fees - over $500 and would have shopped around and negotiated. I thought this company was great. They came out with their big fancy trucks and promised big things. Do not be sucked into their promises. They have incompetent contractors working for them. They tore up my entire basement because of a "supposed" sewage leak. They claimed, insurance would cover and it would be as good or better than before. DON'T be deceived. It won't. My basement was new ( Just move in a year ago and never used the basement). It had just been redone. They promised I would have a say in what was done (all lies). These guys are a class-action waiting to happen. I had suspicion of a water leak and called a plumber. The plumber called-in his restoration guys to use FLIR on the ceiling in order to "assess" if there was actual water accumulated. The FLIR showed some cool spots, so having approval from my insurance company, I bought into it and they opened up my ceiling to take a looksies. No water -- anywhere. Now, the crew they used were 18 year old kids with minimal experience cutting into drywall. Good kids, no doubt, but too inexperienced for this job. I say this because while "searching for the water" one of these young bucks nicked an actual water line and -- you guessed it -- flooded my ceiling. Now, I understand mistakes happen, especially honest ones (the kid owned it immediately), but my rule is simple: If you make a mistake, own it and fix it... and don't charge me for your mistake. Well, long story short, they charged me for all the drying and cutting they did to fix THEIR LEAK. Cutting one 10ft x 2ft hole in my ceiling, nicking my water line, and breaking my chandelier (and then leaving the hole there for a month; it's still there) cost me $2200 bucks. AND. NOTHING. HAS. BEEN. REPAIRED. Thank God for pictures and video... now let the games begin. Expert, do the right thing... give the grand you charged from credit card back and rip up the bill you intend to give to my insurance company. It would be wise, to say the least. HOMEOWNER BEWARE! Expert Restoration employs teenage boys from Lehi High School to cleanup drywall and insulation. Left unsupervised in my home, two of the boys proceeded with horseplay and one boy even laid on the floor stating that he was tired. Two of the boys were the sons of one of the owners amd the third boy a friend. These boys are certainly not licensed contracors., And the two younger boys were extremely unprofessional ( one being an owners son, he did not favorably represent his dad's business, although the older one, Jake was better. Expert Restoration knew this job was going through an insurance and was given the insurance adjuster name and number on numerous occasions and did not contact them but instead billed the credit card $275.00 as interest and late fees for a 42 day period.then lied to the insurance company and said we never returned messages or texts, we have (saved)numerous texts with Jerry Lovelace regarding the insurance claim. This company deserves 0 stars after the deceitful practices they employ. DO NOT CALL THIS COMPANY! They might respond fast, but that is ONLY to get your credit card information and to sign a 'blank check' contract that says they can and will charge you whatever they want. That's right don't expect them to work with your homeowners insurance, they refuse to negotiate a fair market value for their services. Their invoice will be ridiculously higher and they expect you to pay the balance out of your own pocket, yep, on top of your insurance deductible. A Dept of Insurance investigation will not require your insurance company to pay the astronomical difference, and they shouldn't have to! They will lecture you on the evils of insurance companies, threaten and attempt to intimidate you with nasty emails, interest and fees, legal action, intent to lien letters and actual mechanic's liens on your property to compel you to pay their overpriced invoice. AVOID my pain and suffering by calling any OTHER company that this one. read more

FRAUDULENT Business Practices. This company has almost 40 reviews (Google and Facebook) of one star (not to mention a F rating on BBB). And the stories are all the same as mine. They show up in a time of crisis referred by a plumber, who's receiving an incentive. The Expert Restoration salesperson on the site tells us that the insurance will cover everything and we won't owe anything. Then they bring out far too many fans and humidifiers (for a small kitchen sink pipe leak) and start running up their bill. They tried billing us over $3,000 for just the mitigation, which was $1,000 over what the insurance company gave us for mitigation costs. The insurance company even talked to them for us and that led to them dropping off costs of $500. We paid them what the insurance company allocated but they sent us threatening notices with a legal firm. Now they are sending us to collections for the "debt" and the owner seems to enjoy bullying through his emails. Sadly, an exiting employee even told us that this is their typical procedure. Chris and his team were quick to respond to assist with some damage to a property that occurred over the Thanksgiving holiday. We were unable to get a hasty response from the provider our insurance company directed us to, but were able to work directly with Expert Restoration who in turn managed the effort to get vandalism by neighbors remediated quickly, in spite of the holidays. Considering the time of year we were dealing with, holiday schedules, etc., and the team was coming from Provo area every day (our property is in Murray), I was happy with the turnaround. We had them come out they were very friendly had told us don't worry we will mitigate on your behalf with our insurance so that everything is covered. After they had finished we had called them and told them hey there is still residue in our drain which they promised to come out and clean and never did. On top of that we paid $1k our insurance cut "Expert Restoration" a check. We were contacted by Dakota who we worked with from day 1 and were told hey what we paid is still not enough but don't worry they will work it out with the insurance and we would not have to pay anything else. Its a common thing. This all took place in October 2018. Here we are in June 2019 and I get a notice from a bill collector saying that we owe. We haven't received any email phone call or anything since the end of october 2018. I am a loss for words. Have tried to contact them a couple times and can't get through. This is not the way to do business. I flooded my upstairs bathroom & bedroom leading to the rooms below. In the emergency late at night, I googled who to call and Expert Restoration popped up. I'm glad they did because they were the best company to work with! Juan immediately answered my phone call and came over with a crew of people and fans. During the few days of drying out, he kept in close communication with my about insurance, estimates, and dollars to the cent. I had never worked with an insurance company before and Stefanie made it so very easy as well as being patient and informative. She answered every one of my calls and questions. I probably would have delayed the process from insurance confusion, but Juan would check up on me often checking up on our insurance coverage until at last they paid out and Juan put our house back together so nicely! You would never know anything had been flooded!!!!!! Juan & Stefanie were seriously so easy and helpful to work with- I can't express it enough!!!!!
