My ear piercings :)
Danthanh L.

Oops! Long overdue review for this place I got my ears pierced here by Alex about 2 years ago. 1) one done on the helix 2) one for each side of my ears lobes, this is the second piercing on my lobe. Alex was really nice about the process and took a long time to thoroughly make sure they were even and proportioned to my previous piercing. He was also accommodating about allowing me to use my own earrings. I get a slight reaction when I wear anything silver or steel in my ears. I haven't pierced my ears since I was a kid. Vaguely remember having it done by a family member with a needle and ice cube. Old school style! Lol. Anyways, I was wary of having the helix done cause I heard it hurts a lot. For anyone thinking of getting a helix piercing, it actually wasn't too bad. The recovery period I found actually hurts more. They say it takes 6 months to heal... But I would say for me, it took almost 9 months to a year. On and off, I would experience intense swelling and irritation. Sometimes it hurt a lot. However, Alex was very understanding and answered any concerns I had. I religiously applied the sea salt and water solution he recommended, which really helped with the swelling. Totally recommend this place. Just know it is pricy $$$, don't come expecting to pay what you would for a piercing at Claire's. Lol. But as they say, you get what you pay for. They are very professional.

Daith piercing, approximately 8 months in. Pieced by Jessie in July 2017 and BVLA Tiffany installed by Six in March 2018

Oooooooooooooooooooooookay, okay, okay, people. CALM DOWN. I get that Six is cool and everything, and Jessie is great and all, but can we please take ONE MINUTE to talk about LINDSAY, the receptionist? First of all, I'd like to say that for the record, I have been here three times over the last 6 months, and all encounters both inside Exotix for work and outside (when I have questions regarding aftercare or jewelry quotes), have been 100% excellent due to Lindsay. She is super polite and has been so stellar when it comes to answering any questions I've had regarding aftercare, and also getting quotes for me regarding jewelry, She has kept me in the loop about what's going on or the process behind jewelry quotes, even if she doesn't have an answer right away regarding what I'm asking for. Did I mention that her response time is excellent? Lindsay has been a blessing to me throughout my experiences with Exotix. They are so lucky to have her (and I am so lucky to have met her), and if you ever get a chance to meet her, make sure you let her know that you feel the same. Now back to reviews on the piercers, hmm... I actually have 3 piercings from Exotix. I came here three times, and each time have walked out with something new. I have a daith done by Jessie, and a helix/outer conch AND an inner conch done by Six. They, too, are excellent piercers - very fun and social, and definitely know how to make you relax through the piercing experience. I highly recommended ANYONE you know to get their piercing work done here. A few times, I have also brought a friend with me to get piercings done also, who also informed me that he felt that Exotix was the best place he has ever been to in his life. I've had the pleasure of getting some BVLA jewelry through Exotix as well (currently ordered - thanks Lindsay!), which I am super stoked about. They have many options for high quality jewelry, as well, to facilitate your healing. The cost of the actual piercing are OK - some say it's a little on the high side. I'll be honest, in comparison to other places, I don't really notice a difference as it's so minor (5-10 bucks maybe?). You truly get your money's worth in all aspects, though. Knowing that, it doesn't warrant any complaints. The piercings are done well (EXCELLENT placement), minimally invasive and not super painful (just a tiny pinch). Even with aftercare, I haven't had any issues due to piercing placement, and have received many compliments on my piercings, even by others who oppose or don't like piercings, in general. Regarding the facility: It's SO clean. The decor is modern, and yet classy. Note that the office is on the 2nd floor ABOVE the restaurant at the same address. Appointments are welcomed, though not necessary. I find from my experience, it helps to make one, especially if you're looking to have multiple things done in one go. It'll help keep you organized to remember all that needs to be done, while making the most of your appointment. All in all, I would never let another studio pierce my body. MY ONLY two regrets regarding Exotix are 1) that I didn't find this place sooner and 2) that I'm currently running out of money because I actually want more stuff done.

Low quality jewelry vs High quality Anatometal jewelry installed at Exotix. DONT CHEAP OUT ON JEWELRY. Your body will thank you.

Hands down my favourite piercing establishment in the city. I've been pierced by both Jessie and Six. My first visit, Jessie pierced my nose. She took her time to make sure I was comfortable and the placement was done well. Least pain I've felt on any piercing. It's been 8 weeks and my nose has healed with zero complications. I'm so happy with it. My second visit here was after another store botched up my ears and navel and Six was lovely enough to remove the ear jewelry for me and guide me in how to heal my navel. Super professional and very nice guy! I came back and had him do my snake bites, and I'm so glad I decided to have him do it. Seriously DO NOT CHEAP OUT ON PIERCINGS. Six was super precise, took his time to make sure the placement was perfect and you can tell he's really serious about his craft. The discomfort was very minimal and the piercings look flawless. I'm not going to risk having my piercings botched anywhere else ever again just to save a few dollars (not worth it!). Exotix is primo (and a wide jewelry selection!). You really do get what you pay for here. Thanks so much guys !!

Triple forward with BVLA

first things first, i want to clarify that i'm quite nervous around needles. anytime i have a blood…read moretest or get a vaccine, i always make it a point to tell the nurse that i am very nervous and a bit scared (despite nothing bad ever happening, like, ever)... so naturally i was very nervous about getting my ears pierced. i walked into the store one day after yelping for a tattoo + piercing spot because i have been thinking about getting my ears (re)pierced for years now (i got them pierced maybe 15 years ago at Claire's and didn't wear earrings back then for many reasons so the holes closed up). i asked a couple questions to Kyle who was at the front of the house and i really appreciated how straightforwardly they answered my questions. Kyle spoke matter-of-factly without making me feel silly for asking simple questions as a grown adult. i also really appreciate speaking to someone instead of just panicking while reading the FAQ page over and over!! fast forward to a month later, i made an appointment to get my lobes pierced! taylor was my piercer and they were absolutely wonderful to be in the care of. i told them exactly how nervous i was and they didn't sugarcoat that i'd definitely feel it -- it would hurt like a pinch hurts and i'd feel some heat, this is natural -- and they jokingly reassured me that if i hated the first piercing, i could stop at one (lol). it's been 8 weeks with my studs in and they've healed amazingly. taylor not only did an amazing job with the piercing, but they gave me really concise care tips and a business card with their info in case i needed to reach out about my piercings. i don't think i can sing high enough praises of the folks at new tribe! TL;DR: - spoke with kyle at the front of house and was pierced by taylor. both were absolute gems of human beings - overall very pleasant and calm experience as a nervous person - very knowledgeable and non-judgmental - thorough website w/ FAQs - would definitely come back if i ever wanted more piercings!! - studs are flat back - variety of studs to pick from for the piercing (some with price upgrades)

I sent an email to follow up on a promotional email I received and got a response the next day. We went over my idea from February 14-22nd. I received a confirmation call and email once the deposit was received. Day of: I was greeted right away at the front desk by an associate. Filled out necessary forms and waited for my artist Maggie. The setup is absolutely spotless. I waited at a client table and enjoyed the WiFi and ditties by Beyoncé's Husband. The work: Maggie was friendly and thorough. We went over the font and size for my design. We did a quadruple check before the stencil was applied. Maggie's station has adorable cartoon designs and is neatly organized. She worked confidently and carefully to ensure my piece was created to perfection. As a first-timer I chose placement on the inside of the wrist. I thought it was going to be more painful than it turned out to be. It felt like being lightly sliced by an X-acto knife. I know that sounds horrible but trust me - it felt more like light scratching on the skin. Not too deep and wasn't excruciating. If you've been scratched by a cat you've experienced more pain. But again - placement is everything. The inside of the wrist has more tissue than the ankle, for example. I was sent home with great aftercare instructions. I also purchased a small tube of aftercare lotion. I can't say I'll continue the process to a full sleeve (I can't do that pain, y'all) but I can see myself adding to my current artwork to complete it. I am so happy with my piece. Maggie is an amazing artist and I'm so glad I selected her.

During the healing time I tried to ask her for solutions but she was reading all texts messages without a single reply. So I contacted their customer care which was even worse - without acknowledgement what my issue was their only concern was not to recover the damage with has been done (Not financially nor professionally-) They did not accept to have an in person session with me to come to a result. Couple of emails and the case has been dismissed by a manager named Brittany! My recommendation is to not be tricked by their name and also the pictures artists post on their IG. With the experience I had - this person was a disappointment . Crooked lines and also my old tattoo is showing under the cover up. Chronic ink is just a Name with 0 customer care.

Never ever ever go to reactive ink for piercings, unless you want 2 months of brutal infections…read more I've been a customer at this location several times (4 times prior) through-out the years (due to being too broke to afford better places to get piercings done) and I've had the last straw. The quality of this shop has seemed to have dropped. This January I got a snug done at reactive ink and got a infection 1 week later... that i've been battling for 2 months. I've been to 2 different doctors and been on 3 different antibiotics. Yes snugs are notoriously hard piercings to heal, but I was told by 2 different piecers that this was abnormal. Here's the kicker, I was told that the infection was likely due to the piercer's experience / most importantly the jewelry's material. I was informed I was given too wide of a bar for the area, that the material used was cheap/ a hazard for new piercings. I have to say in the end I should of avoided reactive ink from the get go. I would love to ask for a refund, as this is a disgusting thing to do to any other human being. So let this be a warning to all broke students, just pay more at a better shop and to avoid the months of pain (& eventually the removal of the piercing in question). For starters, the first piercing I got with them was completely crooked. I had to take it out to let it heal and redo it, which leads me to today. I came back for 3 more piercings. A different girl was doing my piercing and she was very rude. I don't know her name, she was black and had a nose piercing. I was trying to find a perfect placement, and she told me "no piercing would be perfect", to try to rush me. Then she didn't even disinfect the spot and tried to start piercing right away, and I had to remind her. On top of all that, my belly ring wasn't correctly aligned when she twisted the cap on, and I had to take it off with pliers... All in all, this was the worst experience of my life! My 3 piercings took a total of 5 minutes, so it's not like I was actively delaying them. Don't come here if you value your body!!!

Shading was added that I never asked for and overall when the tattoo was 'done' I was incredibly unhappy with it - the lines were wonky, parts looked unfinished and the shading was too heavy. This was particularly upsetting as this was a memorial tattoo for my brother who passed away in October and the tattoo is on a highly visible part of my body. I tried to describe to the artist how I would want it fixed and he didn't seem to be willing to listen - keeping insisting he could fix it with more shading and white ink. He also pulled up his instagram to show me his other work when I said I didn't like it insisting 'he does great tattoos' and 'as fourteen years in the business' which came across incredible unprofessional and very not understanding g of me hating the current tattoo he was working on. I asked if there was another artist available to finish the tattoo as I was uncomfortable continuing with him and was told no. The tattoo is healing horribly, at only a week old it a faded scabby mess, as shown in the pictures below. I have reached out to the shop twice about this being fixed and have heard nothing back.
