My best friend and I went here to get our ear pierced together at the end of November 2022 and Anna, who pierced our ears did a fantastic job. Meghan who worked the front was super welcoming when we came in and was very thorough in showing us all the options of earrings we could purchase before going through the process. Our one red flag and warning to anyone coming here is to ask to see your invoice or an itemized receipt before paying for your service and items. And unfortunately I tried sharing this over on Google and they have flagged my review so it's not visible to others In more detail, immediately after the piercing was done, we were led to the next process - payment. When we went through payment, it was not disclosed to us in a clear and transparent way that the aftercare and cleaning q-tips were not included ($20 for a box of cleaning q-tips + $15 for Dexidin Spray). The items were ALREADY tossed onto the bill BEFORE we even went through the aftercare process and there was nothing stated or transparently mentioned like, "We have a few things for you guys to consider, we have some aftercare products that we recommend you use to ensure your piercing do not get infected - would you be interested in purchases these today?" Had we had known we were going to be charged, we would have opted out of the products as my friend had a bunch at home and it came off as if these were included. Again, because we didn't get a receipt until it was emailed we had already opened up the aftercare products the second we got home to treat our piercings. My friend and I had spent over $400 each, purchasing real gold earrings and when I reached out about the aftercare products and had even offered to returned the remainder of what we had as we had only used one q-tip and one spritz, they didn't offer us a refund but a store credit since we had opened the products. Based on the principle alone - I don't plan on going back due to the lack of transparency. I hope this review just helps people moving forward to have a better experience than I did as it put a really sour taste in my mouth considering everything else was quite positive. My recommendation to the studio is to please disclose to your clients the products BEFORE adding it to their invoice and not to brush over it during payment as it's easy for the client to mistaken that these items were used during the process of the piercing service rather than knowing it's a product they are purchasing for aftercare. Or another suggestion is going through the aftercare process right after the piercing BEFORE payment as this would be the most optimal time to mention the products and suggesting to your clients if they'd like to purchase some. read more

The employees working here for pre-consultations are friendly and have a passion for what they do, and the piercer is experienced and confident. I had my tragus and forward helix done, and I do want to note that she had to do my forward helix twice because she felt it'd look more aesthetically pleasing to have it done in another location. Also, have you budget in mind as the jewelry plus service fee plus after care products add up and get quite expensive. I had such a great experience at Black Line Studio. This is my second time getting a tattoo done here, 13 years later and their customer service is still amazing. Everyone was friendly, kind, and so professional. I went on Feb 10th, 2023 for a cute little flash tattoo that they had as part of their valentines promo. The artist, Memo did my tattoo and he was so sweet and kind. I had an idea of placement but wasn't entirely sure how it would look and after the stenciling, I found that I didn't like the placement much. So I really appreciated the fact that he didn't rush me and was willing to re-stencil the design a couple more times until I was 100% satisfied with it. It's been a year since I got my nose pierced, as well as two ear lobe piercings at this studio. My friend went with me and got 4 piercings in her ear. Both of us have had nothing but problems with each and every one of the piercings. My nose reacted to the overpriced jewellery I was sold there, and my ear lobes were still sore and prone to bleeding and bumps over 3 months later. I don't sleep on my piercings, don't touch them, and use saline spray to keep them clean. It has been a nightmare which needs to be corrected by professional piercers elsewhere. I tried getting in touch with the studio to get help looking after my nose piercing bump and when I called, Meghan first condescendingly asked about whether I was following the aftercare instructions, and thdirected me to email them a picture. When I did so I got no response. Additionally, the price for such shoddy work and poor quality jewellery is outrageous. I had a reputable piercer change out my overpriced nose ring, and realized my nickel allergy was causing the irritation bumps. The gold plating came off their poor quality jewellery. The price is astronomical in comparison to other (much better) establishments. They incentivize leaving positive reviews for discounts, so many of the good reviews are dishonest Do not recommend, and in fact will warn people against going to this establishment. read more

Highly recommend. Been to Vika here a number of times and always leave happy. She's designed a number of pieces for me. Last year we had started with an outline of my dog and today finished the piece off with floral elements and some shading. Really happy with it. Lorena was one of the most colourful, amazing individuals at Black Line. I really enjoyed her enthusiasm for my tattoo, and drawing it up too. She is an extremely talented individual who kept the session fun. The tattoo I got is of my late dog, Mini. Getting a tattoo of a person, or animal is risky, especially when it has a huge significance in your life. I can say, with 100% confidence, that Lorena did an amazing job and I could not be happier. I have gotten so many compliments on my new tattoo (just like my old one!), and I have recommended this study to at least 10 different people now. Today, I was interesteed in buying a new earing for one hole on my ear, naturally I had it put in and saw how it looked in this hole and unfortunately, I did not like how it sat on my ear and so I did not want to purchase this item anymore and the piercer removed it, but after telling me that she would have to charge me a service fee for cleaning it and applying it. In this moment I was a bit taken a back but I didnt have the time or want to argue infront of my child. Alternatively, I would have like to stay longer to find a stud that I would have worked well but my time was short and I would have to do this on another visit soon, but she insisted still that I should pay her $20+ tax to suffice this interaction. No where is it written or communicated that I should pay for applying a piercing in the event that I do not want to purchase it, which makes me think, shame on me for going along with her demand, I should have just left. I feel mislead and I will not be returning later or ever and I do not recommend anyone else to bother with this studio either when there are so many other, straight forward tattoo and piercing places in the area and all around toronto. I have been to many high end jewlery stores inwhich I have been assisted to try the jewlery and never made to pay a service fee, after the fact. This really turned me off and is a very unprofessional way of taking money from people. I came in knowing which font I wanted but Jasmine worked with me to customize it with a few personal touches. Black line studio is a great choice for getting a tattoo in the city. My experience with Vika and the staff was amazing. They were all very patient and answered all of my questions. I wasn't sure about placement but Vika had no issues doing the stencil for me multiple times and offered suggestions based on my tattoo design and lifestyle. The tattoo was beautifully done and I'm very happy with it! I'm only taking off one star because the studio is rather small and I was in a room where smoother tattoo appointment was taking place so it was really cramped and a little uncomfortable. read more

I've been a repeat customer, and yesterday I had an experience at blackline studio which changed my perception of this place. My appointment was late, and extremely rushed. The main issue though surrounds the lack of organization and communication among the staff. I was quoted for jewelry being $180.00 (extremely over priced given the head is gold and the bar is titanium). After my service was done, I went to reception to pay and the receptionist said that I did not have to pay as I was a repeat customer (and thanked me for my loyalty). I pulled out my card to pay for the jewelry, and she repeated that I DID NOT have to pay. I found that strange, so I asked again and she insisted that I was not to pay. I found the above quite odd, gave a confused look, and then left. I received an email at 11:00PM from blackline studio saying that I did not pay. I emailed back explaining the situation, and insisted for them to check the surveillance to see that I took out my card to pay, and that the fault is on the studio and not myself. They said it was a miscommunication and that I still need to pay. The emails made it seem that the confusion was on my end, but I am cognizant enough to feel certain of what happened. I then asked if I was supposed to pay, why did no one stop me when leaving? Why did the staff not insist on payment, or clarify if I was incorrect? The staff said bye and I was on my way. Clearly the misunderstanding was on their end. I am now awaiting ANOTHER email regarding payment. I find this all extremely unprofessional, and I WILL NOT be going back. I feel that I should be given a significant discount if I need to pay, especially due to the incompetence of the staff, as the mistake was on their end. I am extremely disappointed with the customer service, and a discount beyond 10% should be offered (especially if I need to return to pay). In addition to this, I was SHOCKED that the piercers were doing NOSE piercings during COVID-19. Other studios have suspended any piercings that would be beneath the area of a mask. I felt unsafe. I should have left. Silly me for staying. Especially due to covid, I recommend going to a studio that is more safe and professional. Three girls were getting their nose pierced before my appointment, and they came with friends. Talk about putting everyone at risk... Do yourself a favour and go to EXOTIX. I'm very disappointed with this place as they don't own their short comings. I got a finger tatoo and yes I know it's an area that they warn you about as the ink may not take. I took extra pre cautions, however the end result was a an uneven line. I got an equal sign on my finger. A very visible place. All I'm asking for is for them to fix it up as one of the lines is not straight and the other line was not properly filled in. When I got it initially the artist, Mark was on his way out and they tried to get me on to another artist, I don't know if he was in a hurry but he finished under 5 minutes. The artist was nice but the customer service here sucks. I will be calling them to see what they can do for me, I will keep you guys posted. read more

This place is garbage, they have got to be some of the worst piercers I have ever come across. I went to buy jewelry to start stretching up again as I had taken mine out about 2 years ago, the piercer told me they'd have to measure my holes to see what size they were first. Right before he started I made it very clear to him that I didn't want him to tear my ear so to be careful and stop when I told him. Clearly this was too much for this idiot to understand as when I asked him to stop he told me it was fine and pushed the tapering pin right through and tore my ear. The tattoo artist Sarah was far too grouchy to deliver the kind of work that she did. I expected far better. I got a lecture about how she "doesn't do sh*tty tattoos" and now that mine are healed I can see all of the imperfections. If she was rude but an amazing artist, it would have been okay. Not doing free touch-ups on work that isn't on fingers is bull. Also, when I made my appointment I was underquoted on the price. Customer service was decent. If it's going to be your first tattoo or on the last inch of space your body has left for ink I'm always going to recommend Black Line Studio if you're in Toronto. I read some of the other reviews, and I mean okay, that's fine not everyone is going to have a great experience everywhere but here's why I recommend this place. For starters it's clean. This is a big thing for me, especially when it comes to tattoo shops. Also it has high ceilings and is bright. Which again, add to the whole being clean and open. I wasn't the one getting the tattoo however, this place still made an impact on me. So much so it's compelled me to Yelp! about it. Nevertheless, it was my friends first tattoo and it was going to be on their ribs - not a walk in the park for your first tattoo. The tattoo artist, whose name escapes me right now, was awesome to make sure my friend was holding up okay and was willing to give them a bit of a break when they'd ask. Just a really chill guy easy to talk with, you know all the little things that make you feel comfortable when getting a tattoo but not realizing it. They also have a lot of merchandise here. So if you are waiting you can check out body jewellery, accessories, clothing and art so you'll be occupied. Anyway, it's been a couple months since my friend got their tattoo and I know they've been mentioning they're going to get it touched up a bit (obviously there is no charge for this) and overall they're really happy with it. Just a suggestion though (I noticed another review mentioned it as well) if it is your first tattoo remember to eat something before you go so you don't get light headed. Oh and if it's a large piece or in a painful spot make sure you take it easy a day or two later. One last thing, they sell the aftercare soap and lotion there so you don't need to worry about that. I went in for a session of laser removal and it was a horrible experience. The strength was set too high parts of the removal scarred heavily. I've had that tattoo worked on at other clinics before, so this was not a case of poor aftercare on my part - but improper performance by the 'technician'. The shop is very uncomfortable if you're not part of the specific demographic of this 'lifestyle' shop. The counter staff were cold and egotistical, and the entire feeling was rigid and pretentious. Some of the tattooist may have actual skill, but this place has every making of a faddish tattoo factory. Avoid at all costs. read more

Spent $800 on my first tattoo here. Came back a month later after multiple booking errors for my FREE touch up. Artist was over 30 minutes late to the appointment. In the initial session we were supposed to add a small script, my artist said we'll just do it when I come back. The script is literally half the size of a pinky finger. I get it done and tip my artist $40 for the touch up (we spent about ~5-10 minutes on the chair). As I'm leaving, the money-grabbing manager comes running out saying I owe him for the additional work. At no point in time did they ever mention it will cost ANYTHING, not to mention it should have been done in the initial session. He wanted me to pay $80 for it because technically it wasn't part of the original piece. A tiny script that the artist traced. Wow. I argued for a while until my artist said to just take it out of his salary so I felt bad and paid, although in retrospect I shouldn't have - probably a scam they run all the time. I also let the artist keep his tip. I spent an additional $120 to add a squiggly line. This place is an absolute joke. I was going to come back (mentioned this to my artist several times) and do my whole arm (we did just my forearm) including my chest... you lost a lot of money and business by being a greedy POS, Ion/Joseph. (the idiot that's responding to these with the utmost professionalism - - wasn't very professional when we had our altercation.) Honestly, NEVER come here. All the recent reviews indicate I wasn't the only one that was scammed by this place. There's literally HUNDREDS of other places you can go, get a better artist and for cheaper and not have to worry about the scam-artist owner. read more

I am surprised this place doesn't have (much) better ratings. From consultation to application I spoke with 6 people that work there and they were friendly and professional about all my questions. I can't say I relate to the previous comments. The studio is beautiful: high ceilings, hardwood throughout and very bright. It has more of the feel of a spa/clinic than a tattoo parlor. I believe I was very lucky to have found India - she created a piece of art that perfectly covered an old tattoo. She's patient but very serious about what she does and the result is amazing. I would definitely recommend Black Line Studio (and obviously India). I can't comment on price in relation to other studios but quite honestly, a tattoo isn't really the service I want to haggle on either ;-) read more

I went to black line to repierce the second holes I once had in my earlobes. It had been awhile since I got my ears pierced and this place came recommended. I wound up going with 3 piercing on my earlobes in total. I was shocked when the total price came to $270! Is that a standard price for ear piercing? Each piercing was $40, I was charged an additional $25 for each stud used, plus $25 for the salt spray to keep them clean. The $270 is also after $20 discount...maybe due to the shock on my face when I saw the total. I know this is partly my own fault because I didn't think to ask the cost before I had the piercings...but I never thought it would cost me this much. Word of warning to everyone out there. *EDIT* Black Line got in touch with me to say they mistakenly overcharged me. They refunded me $45. So in the end after a refund and a $20 discount I paid $225. Still way way too much - black line try displaying your price list next time to avoid situations like this. read more

After reading some of these reviews which are not all AMAZING I had to question whether I had the right place. It seems that I do. My experience here was awesome. I just got a very small simple tattoo behind my ear so maybe I can't speak much for the skill level but I can say that everyone at Black Line was beyond accommodating and extremely nice. I was only in town for a few days and the tattoo was a bit impulsive. I checked out a few shops. The first one I stopped in (lucky for them I cannot remember the name of it) looked like a pretty good shop but they were so rude. They gave me an oddly judging once-over and i guess because I am not COVERED in tattoos decided i didn't know what I wanted or was talking about. So I left there discouraged thinking maybe I didn't want a tattoo after all. Then I came upon Black Line! The shop is beautiful. Really funky and cool looking. Probably because the very sweet girl at the desk is also a designer and designed the whole storefront. She did a fantastic job. When I told her what I wanted she immediately disappeared into the back with where she printed out several ideas for me. Without me even asking. Like I said, beyond accommodating. Long story shortened.. everyone there was really great, the vibe was very friendly and they made my trip to Canada extremely memorable. I've actually thought of booking trips back to take some of my friends who are planning their first tattoos. It was that good. I only wish I lived closer (I live in NY) or knew more people in Canada so I could send all my friends there! It's a wonderful shop and I hope I get to go back one day for a bigger piece. read more
